Well let me say for starters every BODY is different, for me I am usually between 1600- 1850 calories a day, i started at 331lbs, I am down to 287 lbs since june 20th of this year. So I happen to think htat what I am doing is working pretty darn well for me. Eating too few calories can actaully hurt your weight loss becasue you are not getting enough nutrients to keep your self healthy. The weeks I stayed at 1400 calories or less I lost less. The proof is in the pudding for me, just make sure that calorie restriction is NOT the only thing you are doing to loose weight, you gotta move!

Keep doing what your doing keep gettin what you got!

I felt like i was cheating yesterday when we went out for our 'spurge'!! I had a 'French Vanilla Cappuccino'!! He was going to get something from Starbucks,but he said i don" want anything now,he is learning to say 'NO'!! As of my last Dr. visit, i had lost 9lbs. ,but he was not seen by the Dr. so we don't know what he has lost. We, both,go on Aug.31,for the 'big' weigh in,so we will see where he is!! I can tell he has lost weight,by the way his clothes look on him and shirts that he wasn't able to wear before ,he is wearing!! We have a scale, but he really dislikes the scale,so it really is used to decorate the bathroom. When we put everything in the tracker last night, we really could have eaten more!! emoticon emoticon

Thanks everyone. I have been usually between the two, and I am losing weight, particularly this week, I lost 1.6 kg. I have lost 4.7 kg all up - but I joined in October last year and that is the starting weight, so by Sparkpeople I have lost 2 kg. I went up a bit, but slowly coming down.

My Calories for the day are between 1290 and 1650.....
Think thta is based on the amount of walking i do in a week....lol....
I am 60 this year so think a few more per day would help you....

I eat somewhere in between the min and the max. I'm supposed to eat 1250 to 1550. I'm usually round 1350-1400 per day.

i am not really counting calories so it is always a surprise at the end of the day for me, but most times i am below or somewhere inbetween and every once in a while i am over. seem to be losing a lb a week tho. (plus it keeps the stress off about falling off the wagon, etc.)

I am glad someone was brave enough to ask this question and we all are able to share our thoughts. I tend to stay closer to the lower end of the tracker but, have also gone to the high end!! These seem to be the days in which i am really busy or have done a lot of exercises. I sure am glad that we have the food tracker or i would really be a 'MESS'!! I am trying to stay on the lower end of my calorie intake,using it like my very own bank roll, Monday- Saturday, then on Sunday my husband ,who also is using sparkpeople ,and i will go on a date and 'splurge,but stay mostly within our calorie range!! This has worked out great for us,as we are able to stick to our healthy life style. I am 5 foot 3 and 61 yr.old and i let sparkpeople set my calorie range for me. I am to eat 1250-1580 which my Dr. approved. B.T.W -SHE USE SPARK ALSO!! emoticon

For me what works is eating at the lower end during the week Monday through Saturday and then induldge myself at the higher end on Sundays. Then when you return to the lower end for the week again the body says hey!
It's the theory that taking a break from or changing up the diet for one day keeps the body from hitting that dreaded plateau and you'll keep reducing. Seems to work for me.

For me it varies. I am rarely around 1200 calories unless it's a day when my appetite is down which does not happen very often emoticon . Usually, I'm in between up to close to my the limit I have given myself (1600). I am 62 y.o. also and am active so I need the calories.

I eat somewhere in between,It also depends on the day.I am not so hungry some days and others i am at the top of my calories.As long as you stay in your range and are eating healthy it doesnt really matter.For those of us with alot of weight to lose than i may be for those with only 10 or 20 pounds to lose.As long as you are losing i would just stay in your range and not try to lessen your calories and go around hungry all the time.

A question, particularly for those who have lost a lot of weight. The calories in the range ... do you eat the minimum or the maximum or in between? I have been losing, but after a discussion with my daughter, she felt I should only be having 1200 calories per day, which is the lower range. That is what she uses (she is a Sparkpeople member) but she is 25 and I am 62 ... and she only has a few kilos to lose, where I have a lot to lose.

Also, does everyone have the same minimum and maximum of calories allocated, or is it worked out depending on age and weight to lose.
