I never really get judgy on other people's carts. I'm usually worried what they'll think of mines. A lot of times my carts are filled with fruits and veggies and lots of protein. I'm worried theyre saying to themselves "she buys things like that AND she's still fat?" Yea, I usually just put my blinders on and keep moving on

All I know is that there was a period of about six weeks last year when I was going up and down about 2 - 3 pounds. I was doing the same thing I had done before and I did the same thing afterward. Both before and after, I lost weight. But during that six weeks, nothing. Just up and down a couple pounds. It caused a lot of frustration because I honestly wasn't doing ANYTHING different.

After all these years of weight loss, I know when it's my fault.

I get so annoyed when I hear, "I do everything right and I just can't lose weight!" Mostly it's BS. I don't understand why people lie about it. Probably embarrassed, want people to feel sorry for them, or want an excuse to keep eating.

I read about it all the time here on SparkPeople.

Also those that say, "I've been on a plateau for months. I lose 2 lbs. and then gain it back." That's NOT a plateau. Or, "I gained 20 lbs., It's that time of the month." UGH!

99% of people will lose weight if they stay consistent, eat right and exercise.

End of rant! :)

I don't judge anyone's cart because you never know what the groceries are for. Maybe some of the groceries are for someone else? But, there was one time when a friend was trying to follow my same weight loss plan, but it wasn't working. According to her, she was doing everything right and we just could not figure out what was wrong. Well, I happened to come around the corner as she was coming down the isle at the grocery store... with an opened box of Little Debbies and was chowing down on one with an empty wrapper laying in the basket of the cart. Hmmmm..... I didn't say anything as her reaction and the look on my face was probably enough, but I did judge her cart that day. LOL

This is so funny. Last night while in line at the grocery store this guy was behind me and he had his cart filled up packs of bakery donuts and muffins.

My first thought was, "OMG I wish I had the nerve!" LOL! I'm sure he was buying it all for something like a bake sale or maybe a big meeting.

ps...I'm glad I don't have the nerve because I'd be twice my size! emoticon

I look, but I don't know if I judge based on the types of food. More or less, I mentally applaud them when they have healthy or mostly healthy foods... other times I'm a little jealous when they have more expensive things in their cart and I feel like I'm trying to save every little penny I can... I definitely look but not to judge what is in their carts. Mostly I feel self-conscious about what's in my cart, but I'm never shopping just for me. I feel good if at least a third to a half of what I grab for myself and the whole household is vegetables, fruits, healthy meats, whole wheat breads, and dairy products. I feel like a success when that happens.

LOL this is so funny but I do look once and a while..I hate it when I see people load up on soda I mean ton of it.. ok maybe they are having a party.. but it is funny where I shop (Wegmans Foods) they pride them selves on their name brand and I would say 90% of my cart is their brand.. so when I look at other peoples cart I will notice that they have the name brand stuff and just cannot get over how they can pay so much more for that when Wegmans brand is really good.. milk, eggs, peanut butter, cottage cheese greek yogurt

usually don't even look at what others are buying, too busy thinking about other stuff.

however, from time to time, less than more, I have noticed others looking at me, my pile(s) and the flashes of disgust/judgement that cross their face...

I don't really judge other people's carts - the only time I get really judgy is when someone buys a cart full of groceries with food stamps, and then pays cash for their cigarettes. I have no problem with a family receiving help - but if you can afford to drop $80 on a bad habit like that, it's time for some new priorities!

I shop for groceries every two weeks. I make a meal plan and a list, and I try not to shop more often, other than for milk and bread. A lot of times, we start a new list as soon as I get home from a shopping trip, but it usually won't get picked up until the next trip! So I'm sure people look at me and see my overflowing cart and decided that that's why I'm so big! But I don't really care.

I also get judgy when it's chilly outside, and I see a mom dressed appropriately for the weather dragging her grubby little kids who are barefoot with no coats into the store. That just makes me nuts!

Also, I judge rednecks for driving duellys and rolling coal. God help us, we live in southern IL, and we're surrounded by conservative rednecks. I'm sure they judge us for driving our economical Kia's, too. So it balances out. emoticon

The only time I ever notice anyone's cart is when it is over flowing I don't really pay attention to what is in it I just think to myself geez what's that going to cost!

Honestly I hate shopping of any kind and I just want to get in and out so I don't pay to much attention to anyone I just get annoyed when they use the self checkout lane and they have a lot of produce to look up and/or are just slow in general.

Dusty,
I totally get the shopping for a party thing I have to shop a lot for work to fill the office candy bowl and we have lunch here twice a month so I'm buying 12 pks of regular soda, cupcakes, cookies or cake for birthdays I'm sure on more than one occasion people have assumed it was all for me.

I can't really judge them, though, because I am currently in a period when I am doing almost no cooking. Just too many things going on. After vacation, I'm hoping to get back to a much more regular schedule, but right now life is just crazy.

Wish I could eat ice cream!

I find people in the frozen area contemplating the relative merits (?) of the various processed frozen meals. I want to scream!

I don't know that I'd call it "judging". Maybe that's just semantics, I don't know. I do notice what's in carts sometimes. Mostly I notice when they're piled to overflowing! not just what's in them.
Honestly, I'm more apt to notice people in the aisles trying to make decisions -- especially if they're discussing them with a shopping partner. It can be tough not to drop a comment. I don't, but I *want* to!

What do those of you who don't look in other's carts look at when you're standing in line? LOL!

I don't judge but I look if I'm standing in line and/or waiting for the conveyor belt to move. It's just interesting.

What I hate is when I have to buy something for others for a birthday or a party. Obviously I've bought junk before or I wouldn't be where I am.

A few weeks ago it was (for a party) cream puffs, brownies, soda, chips, ice cream, wine. I was self-conscious about that. A few times I've even gone as far as putting a pack of candles or a cheap birthday card in my cart so people wouldn't think it's for me, LOL!

98% of the time I don't care though.

I don't like it when the checker or bagger oohs, and ahs over a cake (or like the cream puffs). But I know they do that to everyone. A couple of nights ago a really petite girl in front of me was buying a few pieces of fancy cake and they did that to her.

Because I used to be a normal weight the first thing I thought of was that she was going to take it home, eat it, and then throw it up. I used to do that:)

One time I was buying a large cake for me (at a normal weight) and one of the girl workers said, "you're so lucky that you can eat that". If only she knew!

So like Bob said we don't always know the story:)

If they shop like we do, we use 3-4 stores and select items that are on sale at different stores, so what is in the basket doesn't always tell the story. Also, I buy for dinners and events at my church, so I might have a cart of beer and wine, and maybe snacks for the happy hour. I don't even drink, so a false assumption would be made if I was judged then!

I don't pay that much attention to what is in other people's carts, but I used to always be self-counscious about what was in my cart, especially when I weighed a lot more. I always felt like people were judging me based on what I was buying. I never cooked much and bought a lot of frozen dinners and ice cream and things like that. I also had a lot of produce and such, but it was always the bad stuff that I was sure they were judging. Now I don't care and buy whatever I want and the heck with what people think. We eat out all the time and I'm sure people still judge me for that.

I always remember that one cart doesn't necessarily tell the whole story. Lots of times I only have meat and staples in my cart and nothing from the produce section, but that's because I participate in a CSA and get all my veggies there.

But a lot of boxed process foods? Yeah, I'm judge-y.

I have never thought of it but, yes I do. Don't know why but I do and I also look at the people with those carts with the unhealthy food and critique them. Of course not out loud. Talk about judging!!

When I see someone who looks exceptionally fit and healthy, sometimes I'll look at what they're buying because they're obviously doing something right.

I'm sure my cart looks bad to people...hubby and the kids love junk food and sugary cereal. I'm not eating that stuff but I have an unhealthy addiction to diet Big Red and buy 5 or 6 bottles a week.

Miss G, I hear what your saying about wondering who buys that processed food junk. But you know that it gets sold, other wise the stores would not keep it on the shelves.

I don't really pay that much attention, though when I see a cart that is efficiently stuffed full of square boxes of processed foods, I do tend to feel badly for the children of the shoppers. I find myself being judge-y, though, on the rare occasions when I have to walk down the frozen food aisle. I look into those cases and cases of boxed, processed foods and wonder, "who buys this junk??!!!"

Well, I do not feel that I am actually judging folks shopping carts. But I do often take notice if their cart is mostly full of healthy emoticon emoticon foods or junk emoticon emoticon foods.

I know it's not politically correct to "judge" anything these days (or admit to it:) but do you judge what's in other people's grocery carts?
