A diabetic educator said diabetics should exercise only on the days that we eat.

I try to remember this. Exercise is vital to help keep my blood glucose levels down. emoticon

I have to be diligent about caring for myself. 100 DAYS OF WEIGHT LOSS is a great way for me to keep focused. Day 1 is July 1, 2017. Build habits to produce success. Most of these habits I have at least tried before but did not sustain. First habit: delay eating by using a timer.

FBS 97 this morning

Yesterday I spent most of the day with a sick granddaughter. I did manage to ride a stationary bike for 32 minutes. Yeah!

Have a blessed day everyone.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.

emoticon Week 6

The beginning of week 5 went very well. the last 2 days were bumpy.

I have finally gotten the kitchen equipped with the foods I need. the fridge needs cleaning but the correct stuff is in there.

Having the right foods made last week go much easier.
I am not diabetic but trying to not become diabetic. The last blood work was good the doctor said.

112 this morning retake on another finger 104

either way it is not where it needs to be...
Struggling daily with food intake

I am not sure where I need to be in calorie range, fat or protein
I changed the calorie intake to what Doctor suggested but I go over or way under everything else.. if I pick up the everything else i am way over calories....

Week 6 DAY 1...Just got my test results from my last appt with my Endocrinologist and found out that since my last appt in June my A1C is down from 9% to 6.4%...lowest it has been since my diagnosis 2 years ago...I am ECSTATIC right now...I really can't believe it...I felt like this disease was going to control my life forever and now I finally feel some hope that maybe I can beat this...

I hear you on that one, I've had to give up on the challenge, I just don't have the time
right now, I've picked up a third part-time job and I cannot eat right when I'm supposed to.
I'm not going back to my old bad habits though. So I guess I have learned something
from this challenge.

Week 6 Day 5...

Major disconnect between my goals and my actions...

Still here, but short term goals in weight loss are not gonna happen - now have too much to lose in too little time, even though 6 weeks ago the goals were reasonable...

However, even in falling short, I am learning so much in this 8 week cycle. From observation of others, and from my own experiences, I can see that if you are in the game, and keep taking your eye off the ball, you cannot blame the game and its rules for your inability to hit a home run...you may even get whacked in the head! But if you stay in there, and keep working at getting better at forming a natural swing so that timing and all become automatic, your batting average will improve, even if you still are not the home run queen of the park...

emoticon

Of course I never liked baseball/softball much - I'm more of a golfer! Perhaps I should change games???!!

emoticon

There! That's better - I KNOW this swing!!

My BS have been up and down in the morning, this morning 124. I had surgery 2 weeks ago and that has played a large part in the fluctuation. But because I continue to follow SPD plan and track what I'm eating I can see my BS coming under control.

Been very ill since Tuesday. Food hasn't been a problem this week because whatever I managed to get down came right back out. I've been in bed since Tuesday. No exercise until today. And took it easy today since it's my first day out of bed. I'm finding that I'm able to keep down diet coke now. That's an improvement! Jaynemarie emoticon

Week 6 Days 1 and 2...??

I could SWEAR I checked in yesterday...oh well. HERE!

emoticon

My friend at work is on vacation today and all next week; I'm her primary back up. She has what I consider to be a VERY stressful job... emoticon

I am STILL fighting with the exercise portion...okay the food portion, too...but if not for my daily 20 minute walks at lunch, I would have only had one workout all week (Mon-Fri). I get up on time, but am one defiant little you-know-what! Couple that with the food issues I'm having (sweet tooth at nights is back - a monthly thing) and this does not create a recipe for a successful Week 6. Guess I need to have a hear-to-heart with myself this weekend about why I'm doing this - apparently I have forgotten - AGAIN!

Fasting Blood Glucose: 87
Walked 1.5 miles in 30 minutes. Mowed for 30 minutes (push mower).
Food looged and on track.

Tomorrow is my appt with the endocrinologist so please send me some luck it goes well. Regular Dr is wanting to put me on insulin. I'm gonna fight it. My numbers have been great. I think I needed the threat to get me back on track.
I also joined the Lose 1 lb or 1 Inch a week 12 week challenge to lose 7% of my weight. That would be 17.5 lbs by 12/16. So Thanks SparkPeople for the support!

Day 3

Not only am I starting to pay more attention to things that affect my eating habits, I'm reacting to them and doing something about the feelings.

I've noticed that if I sit in certain places in my house, I have more cravings.

Being around certain people affects my mood.

When I'm craving sweets (which is not very often), I'm reaching for healthier options or learning to reach for no option.

Just because my body want's it doesn't mean I have to indulge. Three time this week I wanted to go downstairs (after hours) and eat, but I talked myself out of it.

Usually I give in, convincing myself that I can't sleep if I don't have whatever it is I'm craving.

Well, I did sleep.

Yes I was hungry, but I made it through the night anyway.

Hi Charledia, The reason why I asked about when you took your metformin was because my doctor had told me that when I finish my supper to automatically take my medicine. One of my diabetic medicines that I take is called Onglyza. it works within an hour of taking the medicine. the next diabetic medicine that I take is Janumet. It has metformin in it but it takes at least two hours for it to start working. What I noticed after doing this for a month was the fact that each time I took my medicine right after I finished the last bite was that my sugar was lower the next morning and was always lower each day.

Hi Subrina. I don't really have a regular schedule for the last dose of metformin because I don't eat dinner at the same time every day. It depends on what's going on and how I feel. I think I've usually eaten dinner by 7 pm, so I might be taking metformin at 9:00 pm or so. The other day, I think I took the metformin around 7 pm and ate dinner 30 minutes later, but I still ate a snack around 10.

I had an emergency to attend to last night and didn't eat my snack till around midnight (Just two pieces of roasted turkey), and took the metformin around the same time. This morning my FBG was 117--the lowest its been in the last couple of days since I've been snacking later than usual. Maybe I was eating too much too late. At the time I didn't think so--it was usually a romaine salad with dressing (2 cups of salad) and a couple pieces of roast beef or cheese.

Blood sugar was 129 this morning--I ate late last night. Even though it was only a salad and turkey meatball, the glucose levels were still high. I think it's because I took my last dose of metformin earlier than usual. Overall, I'm still satisfied with my FBG numbers.

Today is my last day of week 6. I haven't been able to drink 8 glasses of water, but I do get in about 6. With the other fluids I get, I'm sure that totals 8 glasses of fluids anyway. On to week 7.

Thanks for the encouragement Subrina. The FBG was 103 today--the no/little carb for dinner and snack #2 strategy seems to be working well. I was able to exercise for 30 minutes yesterday. I need to get in one more session today to meet the weekly goal--still have a slight migraine. I weighed myself this morning--finally back at 251. Yay!

FBS is 99 this morning...I think I'm finally getting back on track from the Labor Day vacation. I had a salad, slice of turkey salami, and a mini baby bell light cheese for snack last night...no carbs. It did wonders for my glucose numbers. I am having trouble drinking 8 glasses of water though, especially since the temperatures have cooled down a lot.

I have a slight migraine right now, but I will try to get the strength training and cardio in later today. Gotta keep on keeping on... emoticon

First day of week 6--I went back and read all the messages in this thread; they have motivated me to get up and do my exercises today. So I'll log off now and get busy. emoticon
