I avoid buffets like the plague since the temptation is so overwhelming especially when you see others going for more. My strategy is to eat at a sit down restaurant but scope out their menu beforehand so that I can lighten up the rest of my foods for the day to come in within a reasonable range of my goals.

I find SP Dining Out guide very helpful. It has recommendations from members and links to the restaurant sites. Works very well for the chains like Red Lobster for instance. You can find it here:

Just getting off to a good start will help you in winning the battle, and this isn't always easy when your family loves eating out. My husband loves a good buffet, so when we go out I try to make sure I drink a glass of water before we go. When we get there I order hot tea with extra lemon, and fill my plate 3/4 full of raw veggies. This helps me to control the need to eat fatty foods.Do any of you have other tips that would help? Together we can loose the weight and be healthier.
