One of my favorite snacks is a small apple, sliced, and 1 TBSP peanut butter, melted in the microwave until it's dip consistency. It's a filling snack and it feels like a decadent treat.

My diabetes doctor told me you should incorporate fruit in with your meals. Eating it as a snack is like eating sugar. I guess if you add some protein with it it might be okay but then your upping the calories of your snack.

I like cottage cheese with tomato as an afternoon snack. It's filling and not a lot of calories.

Welcome. If you're used to having an afternoon snack, try changing it instead of skipping it altogether. Some plain or artificially sweetened fat-free yogurt with fruit, or low fat cheese, 1 ounce of almonds, etc. are all good snacks, and the protein will help you get through the afternoon without being hungry.

I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes last September, but I've been keeping my head in the clouds for almost a year. I don't want to die early like my mom, so I need to accept my diagnosis and do something about it.

1. start tracking my eating
2. skip my afternoon sugar snack altogether, or eat fruit if I'm really starving.
3. practice deep breathing instead of deep eating every time I'm stressed out.
