There are only a couple of my senior friends that have computers and the majority get frustrated very easy if they can't figure out the computer fast enough. I did get one friend to sign up with Spark People then after she did, she didn't like all the mailings to her. I told her to turn the mailings off but I think she deleted the whole thing or just doesn't use it.

The rest of my friends want nothing to do with a computer and don't even want one.

At our ages socialising is very important, do any of your friends there use computers, maybe they might like to find friends on Spark. I am so glad you are with us for sure. DH and I will be able to walk outdoors today I hope
The ice and snow are melting so I am not quite so afraid of falling now. ENJOY your day and your friends but do not be afraid to take smaller helpings if you feel they are too much.
You can do this.
Look ahead for the exercises you will be able to do. Coach Nicole does give you some other choices as alternatives. Pat in Maine. 67 years young,

Thank you to all who replied and gave me some suggestions.
I had a wonderful day yesterday. Stayed within my calorie allotment and did some exercise as well as a short walk with my dog. Weather is not spring like here in CA. We've had a lot of rain and gusty wind. My dog looked like she was going to lift off the ground while we were walking.
I went on line to check out "Leslie Sansone". Found the website and tried to order a video but had difficulty with the website. I'll try again.
Tomorrow will be a big challenge. I'll be going back to the Senior Center for the exercise class and lunch. I'm going to do my best to say no to the pastries.
I'd probably have an easier time if I stop having lunch there but I've made some good friends there and socializing is important also.

YOU can do this. you can modify anything you feel you are not comfortable doing but you can do this and you might want to share what you are doing with your class instructor, she might even look at the site and get lots of ideas.
Way to go you can do it. I am doing it and really love the people and the site. Pat in Maine.

You are doing something and that matters so give yourself a pat on the back. I see many people in your age group and younger who do nothing. You go girl!!! Those bakery goods if you really think about them and what they are and what they do to us are just pure bad. I know it may sound strange but i always pretend that i saw someone pick there nose before putting them on the plate and then i do not want them anymore. Keep up the good work. I am looking into the chair exercise for my husband who is disabled and i will do them with him as i have bad knees. As I said you go girl and be proud!!!!

Hi there, exercise is great. I am 67 years young and i love the chair exercises with resistance bands.
Since you are here you must have blood sugar issues. I see you are doing well with doing your exercises and your food is undoubtedly proportioned if it the Dash diet'

I think you know where i am going here. You have to come up with a way of protecting yourself from the bakery goods.
Our son was laid off and they had a hard time making ends meet. They were going to the food pantry and getting this food and my sons entire family is now over weight. They had to eat what they could get. They are trying to avoid these items but when hungry kids are fed carbs. they like grown up will crave the carbs.
Please do yourself a favour. Take a knife and cut it in half at least. Offer half to another or just offer it to the garbage. That is its next place for it to go, and it is better in there than you eating it and messing with your other very good habits. Please think about it. You appear to be doing well otherwise. Pat in Maine, hopes you can do this for yourself so you can have a healthier lifestyle. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hiya, Ramline! For what it's worth - I do chair exercises every day. Contrary to what people think, you can get plenty of cardio and really work up a sweat without standing up, so that's one option that you can use to add to your current fitness program.

Also, yesterday was our second once-a-week exercise class meeting for seniors. They've started us out with half-an-hour each session, with the intention of working up to an hour. Since our class only meets once a week, tho, I try to do the sequence of exercises every day, or at least every other day, at home. This class is well designed, requiring no special equipment. A few of the exercises are sitting on a chair, and the rest are standing - no 'floorwork,' as several of the people in the group wouldn't be able to get down on the floor.

So if you go to the senior exercise class twice a week, and do them at home on two additional days each week, that would also contribute toward your overall progress. Thinks me!

I am walking about on 2 hip replacements. The most important thing to do after the surgery is DO THE REHAB. I found that I recovered from the immediate effects of surgery in a few months. However it took a full year to recover from the effects of the arthritis: staggering loss of muscle.

I did the rehab religiously and continued by doing strength training. At this point, the muscle loss is holding you back from a full recovery. Follow the suggestion to do chair exercises but most importantly do EXERCISE of some sort. Start slow and increase the difficulty as you get stronger. You will feel much better and gain mobility.

As for me, I could barely walk before surgery, could not get out of a chair without using my arms and could not get off the floor period. Six months after rehab I could get off the floor (barely) and I started cycling again. Four years later, I am back cycling for 2-3 hours at 20 kph. The key: determination.

Cheers,
Catherine

I'm starting this challenge to try to break free from distuctive habits that are not good for my health.
I'm 72 years old.
I eat with the senior nutrition program Monday through Friday. It's a good program that serves us a Dash Diet meal. Always has the correct servings of the food groups. One problem is that one of the bakeries in town donates their day old goods to the seniors. I have a difficult time passing up these pastries.
Another problem is exercises. I had a hip replacement 10 years ago which has improved my mobility greatly but I'm still limited. I do take the hour long senior exercise class at the senior center twice a week which does some cardio, strength and stretching but I don't think it's enough. I've looked at some of the Spark people videos and they all seem to be for much younger people. When you get older, if you're still able to get on the floor, it;s with great difficulty to get back on your feet.
So my biggest challenge is to fit some exercises that I can adapt to my abilities.
