My goals:
1 Consistently track all foods consumed
2 Cardio at least 3x per week
3 Strength training min 3x week
4 Stay at low end of carb allotment (171) or below; upper limit seems way too high for a pre-diabetic
5 Reconfigure at least three favorite recipes to make them more suitable to my current diet.

So I have dabbled with Sparkpeople on and off for a long time. This is the first time I actually have accepted a challenge and since I'm putting it out there for the public to see I will have to stick to it.
Goal 1. to take blood sugar and record it at least 3 times a day
Goal 2. to do 3 days of some type of exercise a week and record it
Goal 3. Eat at least 3 meals a day and record it
Goal 4. Plan meals in advance
Goal 5. Take all necessary medications when they are suppose to be taken.
Gaol 6. Maintain weight loss, currently at 209.08
I believe that this is a good start, so lets see how i do

My goals are to lose weight and stamp out the diabetic symptoms I've been having. Had surgery and couldn't cook my own food, anesthesia triggered hypoglycemia and exercise not possible for half a year.

I only found out that I have diabetes a few weeks ago. My doctor didn't seem much concerned about it, but given another condition that came up, another one of my doctors stressed that I need to control my blood sugar. So I have been checking my glucose religiously after meals, and right now I am not on insulin, only metformin and a very low dose at that.

My goals are to:
1. Continue eating healthily and mindfully. Fill my plate with nutritious foods that my body needs versus the crap I used to feed myself.
2. Continue walking at least 30 minutes/day. Right now I break it up to 10 minutes after every main meal, but I want to increase the time over the coming weeks.
3. Keep my glucose numbers in check. Test 2 hours after every main meal, and at least once a week (preferably Monday), test my glucose when I wake up, and before I go to bed.

I've already incorporated a lot of healthy things recently into my life, I just need to stick with it. Which is the hardest part of all I think! =) Good luck.

Ok, goals - Basically to get back on track w/ exercising and eating better. I've really slacked off, and I've come to the point where I can tell a difference. So I'm taking baby steps to start forming those healthy habits again.

My goals for this challenge, is to begin a lifestyle change to get healthy and active and to bring my blood sugars into a normal range. For the last year my fasting AM blood sugars have been between 250-350, no matter what I did. My goals in this 8-week weight loss challenge is to continue counting carbs, drink more water, and start exercising. I'm very bad about starting something and not finishing it, especially when I'm tired all the time. I look forward to challenging myself with the weekly exercising goals.

My goal is to get my blood glucose down to normal range as fast and healthy as I can (which I am doing). Then laugh at the doctor who wanted to put me on meds the moment my levels went up. Range was always normal till last month. I should have stayed on top of my liver more...it can really make the difference.

1. I hope to continue exercising
2. I will do the water aerobics class at the Y three times a week.
3. I commit to exercising at least one hour a day, five days a week.
4. I will include warm up, stretching, strength and cardio in my gym workout and finish with the exercise bike, at least 30 minutes.
5. I will continue to monitor my heart rate to keep it between 120 and 130 as the Cardiologist advised.
6. I will continue to weigh daily and try to leave the results to my Higher Power!
7. I will hope to meet my weight loss expectations for certain dates but again my HP is in charge and control of that!
8. Lastly I will check in with this team at least once a week to share the weeks events, etc.

So good night dear Sparkers and new members too, see you later on this thread!

Hi.

I am not yet diabetic but figure I soon will be if I don't smarten up. The Long term Glucose reading is above the normal range.
My goal is to reduce it down to normal range and to be at an acceptable weight, eating food which enhances and keeps me in the safe range.

SO I will eat a plant based diet with some deviation, most of the time.

I WILL exercise as frequently as I am able to. Increasing movement each day.

Today is day 1 of week 1. I've been reading over the other goals and they all seem great. Mine are pretty much the same, however, I've been down this road before and not reached them. So, my goal for the first week is to simply stay mindful that I'm trying to make changes. Things I will do to achieve this goal is to check in daily, track my fluids and movement time. Right now I'm monitoring my BS which I haven't been doing. Making small changes is my plan for this week.

I just found out I was diabetic. I had a long discussion with my doctor and he has agreed to give me 3 months to turn it around. If I don't then I will be on medication the rest of my life. That scares me. My goal is to eat right and get my glucose levels down to where they need to be.

I spoke earlier about getting the letter from the doctor regarding my latest blood work. When I talked about it I avoided mentioning the word insulin. That is the scarest word to me - it means I really have to admit to everyone - I will need to think about it several times a day. In the past I have gone weeks without checking my blood sugar, as long as I felt okay.

My Name is Cherylann and I was informed by my doctor last week that I need to lose weight or I will find myself needing insulin shots in a year. To say this was scary is an understatment I had no idea I was that bad off. So my goal with this challenge is to lose 25lbs by decreasing the amount of time I spend in front of the computer and increasing my daily movement to 30 min four days a week

We have just found out that we will be grandparents in August - the same day the doctor wrote to say my numbers were bad and that I should consider insulin. So my immediate goal - have my sugar readings under control (I was in the 300's Friday and 145 this morning). I know that I will only get there with consistency. Long term goal is for that future grandson (they found out today it is a boy).

So my goals are just as pretty much everyone else - get my BS where it needs to be and get my weight under control. I have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and it was not a question of if it was really only when between family history on both parental sides and having gestational diabetes when pregnant with my last baby 19+ years ago. We knew it would happen - I honestly never really believed it = well now I have to take control.

So my goals
Track my food and water - first
Track my weight occasionally
Track my exercise and by tracking that it will get me to move more. Accountability is key for me.

I want to lose about 40 - 50 lbs total but I am looking at the immediate - like when I finally consistently am below 190 - is where I am starting. I did that last week and am at 190.4 today - so that is the weight challenge for me - 5 - 10 lbs at a time.

I was diagnosed with Pre-diabetes this week based on A1C of 6%. This has really scared me into taking action to address my health. My goals are to increase physical activity and monitor my nutrition. I hope my A1C levels will be within normal range by my next appointment in 2 months.

I am still working these out, but so far my goals are:
FITNESS:
I will be able to walk 35 miles per week by August 31, 2014.
I will incorporate Housework and Gardening into my day.
I will incorporate strength and flexibility training into my day.
NUTRITION:
I will have a healthy glucose reading on my next doctor visit.
I will reduce the dosages on my blood pressure and cholesterol medicines.
I will reduce my risk for osteoporosis.
I will eat between 5 and 10 servings of freggies every day.
APPEARANCE:
I will lose weight.
I will improve my work wardrobe.
I will wear makeup and fix my hair for work.

I am working on making all of these S.M.A.R.T. goals with action steps and time lines. Overall they are lifetime goals.
