My goal for this challenge is to get my eating under control. I am considered "pre-diabetic" and I really don't want to become diabetic. I am starting by losing 10% of my weight as recomended by the clinic people :)

My goal is to keep my carbohydrates under control and to track my food and exercise daily. I am not full blown diabetic, but I am headed in that direction if I don't get myself under control. emoticon

My initial goal is to get my carb consumption under control so that my blood glucose is more stable. I hope to do that by faithfully tracking and being more committed to aerobic exercise. I have bloodwork in about 4 weeeks, so I'll get to see some "internal" results really soon.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away...and, remember "slow and steady wins the race".

I am excited and motivated to find a community of people who have similar issues with the diabetes. My goal over the next 8 weeks it to become more aware of the food that I put into my mouth as nutrition for my body. I am making a conscious decision to be more healthful and clean in my eating! I also pledge to do 30 minutes of exercise five days a week! I want to lose weight and guess that 37 pounds is my first weight goal! I want to be medicine free and more healthy!

I am here to begin again. I have had diabetes for 14 years. My Grandfather,Father, Mother, two sisters, and two brothers also are diabetics. I am so insulin resistant that I need to use a 500u insulin. I am going to lose 40 lbs by May 10 when I will be leaving for a trip to Poland. Eventually I want to lose 70lbs. I know I can make it to 30 lbs but my greatest difficulty is getting past that and learn new strategies for maintenance. emoticon

While I do not have a formal diagnosis, thanks to my armchair medical knowledge I suspect that I may be diabetic or pre-diabetic with a complication of PCOS. I want to minimally halt some of the effects. I hope that getting back to a healthy weight will defer some of the more serious issues that can happen with diabetes and get me back to something resembling normalcy.

I have been trying to lose weight for many years. I lose and then gain it back. I am hoping to find a weight that I can maintain as well as a weight loss that will help my diabetes.

I want to get back on track, lose the weight I have gained back, and then get back on track to reach my original goal. Since beginning my goal four years ago, a lot has happened. I have gotten divorced, remarried, retired from 20 years of teaching, now homeschooling my step-children, moving from the country (where I loved to walk out my door and in the woods) to the city, where I hate to walk and have just chosen not to because those wooded trails are not near my home. I am now cooking for a family with three picky teens and I don't want to make more than one menu at each meal.

I want to be back to a place where I don't have to take insulin (where I was when I lost 65 lbs, which was half of my goal). I want to enjoy exercise again.

My goal is to get back on track of losing weight and keeping my diabetes in check with diet and not medication. I did that in the year 2012 but just stopped trying and now am taking 2 pills a day. I want to feel good again, work in my garden, my yard and walk up and down the hills of our farm which I can't do now.

I want 2014 to be a record year. I will turn 65 in September, I will retire in October, and my true goal is to be in better health come October then I have been in years.

I pray each of you reach your goals. We can do this. We have such a great place to get encouraged and the help from the Spark Coaches and teams and the team leaders. Yes we can do this and I am really excited more then I have been any other time. I have worked since the 11th grade in High School. I don't have a clue what it will be like to retire but I sure am looking forward to it.

For this 8 week challenge I would like to lead a more healthy and active life. Eat more healthy. Don't eat after 8 pm. Work out at least 3-5 days a week. I want to see my son grow up well in to adulthood. I want to have more children some day and I don't want diabetes to hinder that. I want to live a long, happy healthy life. emoticon emoticon

My main goal for this 8 weeks is to stick with it! I want to be a runner. I want to be healthy. I want to get off the diabetic medicines. I dont want to go into Diabetic Ketoacidosis...EVER again. I want to see my son grow up and graduate and get married and have kids. I want to be active and energetic. I am a type 2 diabetic since 2005. I had a stillborn daughter at 38 weeks, due to uncontrolled sugars and infection. I try to be compliant, but with the Dr visits being so high, even though I can afford the medicines, I cant afford to go and be seen. I am trying my best to do better this time around. I know that I can get this under control with diet and exercise...I just have to DO IT!!!

I have been a diabetic for most of my life and I have also struggled with overeating for most of my life. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired and ready to get the blood sugar in control, lose excess weight and feel better! New year, new attitude, clean slate - what better time to do it.

In the last year and a half I have been under lots of stress. I moved to a new city and lost my First Place support group, a group that was instrumental in helping me lose over 40 pounds and get my blood pressure under 120/80. In the last year and a half I have regained the 40 pounds plus 10 more and my blood pressure is now out of control again. Diabetes runs in my family and I know I am at high risk for developing it. I need to lose 50 pounds in 2014 and retrain my taste buds to like foods with less sodium. My goal for the first 8 months of 2014 is to lose 15 pounds

I have been a noncompliant Type 2 Diabetic for years, and this is the year I am taking control. I have been trying to take my medications regularly, put myself first (chronically put everyone else's needs before mine) and lessen my stress. Have been on vacation through the holidays, so this was a little easier. need to help my husband, also Type 2 Diabetic. We have a treadmill, but don't use it. Starting to use it now.

Week 1:
Day 1: Goals:

My husband is diabetic and I have been told for many years that I was "borderline" which is now known as pre-diabetes. So my goal is to learn to cook healthier for us within our budget, lose weight the correct way and stick to a plan. My problem has always been that I work out for 3 months but only lose about 10 lbs, so it frustrates me and I quit and gain that 10 plus more back. I am new to this particular team/challenge, but not new to SP.

Its a new year and a clean slate. I'm more positive and focused for what lies ahead.

My husband was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I need to get healthier so I thought it would be good to try to follow a plan and do steps that would benefit us both. My goal for this week is to walk 2 miles each day, stay in my calorie range for 5 of the 7 days, and do a video workout 3 days this week. I'm also looking at how I'm doing against carbs at meals ... trying to stay in that range ... really an education for me.

Balance!

My goals are to get off cholesterol medicine, get off water pills and reduce my blood sugar. I'm pre diabetic and I would like to get out of the pre category. My last goal is to get to my goal weight so I can get out of the obese category. I intend to do this by staying within my spark people nutrition ranges, exercise at least 15 mins per day, drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, and get at least 8 hours of sleep per day.

My goal is to lower my carbs for each meal and start exercising at least three times per week. I have recently been diagnosed with Lupus and live with chronic pain. My A1C went from 7.8 to 6.5 and I lost 50 lbs. I have been taking Prednisone, which has caused me to gain many pounds, plus it has caused my A1C to go higher. I believe I can lower it again by watching my carbs more closely and trying to exercise.

I was told I was pre diabetic over a year ago did not do much about it. I also have high cholesterol and a few other issues with arthritis and stuff. All of which I have been pretty much ignoring hoping it will all just disappear. But at Christmas I had my first reality check, Chest pains radiating up my neck, I am fine but ignoring is not helping and its time to wake up. My goal is to start eating right and exercising regularly and not when it is convenient. I started yesterday, not waiting for New years resolutions, no better time than the present. So with prayer and support I am making a life change.

My doctor told me the beginning of October that I was pre-diabetic. My A1C was 6.1 and my estimated average glucose was 139.9. I felt I was working hard, but I feel a little let down in that I just completed new bloodwork and my A1C has only dropped to 6 and my estimated is 125.5. I have been going to the gym regularly and walking on my treadmill. I have also challenged myself to 10,000 steps a day. I decided to join the challenge to figure out where I am going wrong. So, my goal is to get my A1C down, and loose some weight. I was diagnosed as obese with a BMI of 30.6. I felt that was a little unfair because I didn't know that when I got on the scale that day it would give me a new diagnosis. I know I'm close, but I was fully clothed with boots. The worst part was I had been working on all of my issues.

I joined Spark 7 years ago and had immediate success. However, i quickly lost track of myself and was sporadic for the last 6 years. I gained all the weight back plus 5 pounds. Yesterday I deleted my old Spark ID and started this one.

I have been borderline Diabetic for two years. I test my sugar every Monday morning. It would run in the 130-140 range. This Christmas season with all the dinners, celebrations, candy and cookie gifts brought to my office my glucose level soared to 244. It has remained over 200 for 4 days now... and that is my fasting level.

Needless to say it has sparked me to try Spark People again with more determination. I accept the 8-week Diabetes Weight-Loss Challenge. Here are my goals:
1. Test my glucose level every day and drop it back to the 130 range.
2. Exercise a minimum of 4 times per week beginning on Jan. 1 (I am traveling this week)
3. Just Say NO to the sweets
4. Follow a healthy SP eating plan
5. Lose 16 pounds by February 22

There they are. My goals are out there... Now I need to share them with my wife!

My long term goal is to lose at least 30 pounds so that I won't be on meds.

My short term goals are :

Begin a regular exercise program.

Be more aware of what I eat and to curb my sweet tooth.+-

2. Continue to exercise regularly.
3. Increase the number of days I exercise
4. Learn more about the factors that are causing me to be pre-diabetic
