My goal is to lose 16 pounds over the next 8 weeks, and to start to use the nutrition tracker. Even if I go out of my range, it is nice to be able to look back and modify things, and allows you to make smarter decisions in the future. Also, I would like to try walking every day for 15 minutes.

MASPETHI - there are some great discussion boards regarding snacking, etc. that I have found to be very helpful:
https://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messa
geboard.asp?imboard=63&imparent=24975486
https://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messa
geboard.asp?imboard=7&imparent=25110492

However, since you asked - a few things that work for me without raising my levels:
2 slices low sodium ham (when at the grocery I always ask them to slice my ham and I have them use approx. 13 on the slicer to get almost 1 oz. slices) with 1 Happy Farms or Laughing Cow Cheese wedge split between the two spread on top. Roll up and slice into bite sized pieces with a dill pickle or two on the side. I also use the Thinwich sandwich buns with 1/2 tablespoon peanut butter on each 1/2 of the bun. Both give me the protein and small amount of carbs to carry me through the night, but not raise my sugar levels.

My goal for this challenge is to get my weight under 200 pounds and to exercise more consistently. I want to make exercise a HABIT just like checking my sugar and journaling my food have become!! Oh, and drink more WATER! I love Diet Coke and I drink more of it than I should - I'm going to work on replacing 20 ounces of Diet Coke with water.

My fasting sugars are usually in the 80 - 90 range and my last A1C wa s 6.1 so I feel like I'm doing pretty good there. I want to lose more weight and see if I can get off my meds.

I would like to lose 35 lbs and keep it off. My true goal is to set my health up to live past 125. I know, it sounds strange and I probably won't make it, but, I am sure going to have fun trying. I have planned to run a 1/2 marathon in January. I have done them before and I like the training. Anyway, I am trying to get a handle on the Type 2 and begin to control it better.

My goal for this challenge is very simple: to complete the tasks to the best of my ability and to stick with it! I joined this challenge for a couple of reasons. Firstly, diabetes runs in my family. Although I have not been diagnosed, I know the risk factors and I know I need to do something about it. Secondly, I need some guidance and motivation, and what better place than a team challenge where everyone is united towards a common goal? So here I am!

Good luck to all the others who are also trying so hard to live healthier lives - we CAN do it! : )

I am not diabetic yet and I don't want to be

My dad is -last week his daily numbers were in the high 480s and 490s. Surpisingly those aren't his highest levels ever. Of his ten sisters and brothers three have died from diabetic complications. I don't want to have that happen to me.

Goals:
1. lose 2.5 pounds a week
2. limit high carb foods and increase protein and low carb foods
3. drink 12 cups of water daily (only up to 10)
4. do 45 minutes of taebo mon-fri (only doing 20)
5. maintain my 5 mile low impact aerobic walks everyday
6. increase strength exercises from 10 min to 20 min mon-fri

It's so motivating to read through everyone's goals!
My goals for this challenge are to follow the meal plan my Dr gave me to combat my pre-diabetes. I'll do this by planning and preparing my meals in advance, and tracking what I eat on SP.
My second goal is to get more exercise, and be consistant in my workouts. I'll achieve this by making a regular date with my Wii Exerbeat game, and by parking farther from work and walking.
Good luck everyone!
