If you are running in the heat and humidity, sweating a lot, you may need a salt tablet or something that will replace what you are losing with all your running effort. I ran a fall marathon and it was on the cooler side. They did not offer salt tablets but they did have Gu gels and Gatorade and water so that people could refuel and hydrate. If you have done long runs and feel like you are faint, dizzy and or nauseous then you might not be fueling properly. Heat stroke is dangerous and even deadly so it is not to be taken lightly. I guess the answer to your question is~ it depends.

Races sometimes offer salt tablets during half marathons and marathons. Is this a good idea?
