I only missed one day last week for my goal of 5,000 steps. I am happy with that. I am also happy that within the month of May I have lost some pounds. According to the Doc's office I am down from 260 to 254. On my home scale I am down from 255 to 250. I'll take the progress gratefully.

I think I have achieved the "sweet spot" with regards to my daily goal. 20,000 steps per day or a weekly goal of 140,000 appears to be the numbers I need to achieve. Coming to this conclusion has been a part of my lifestyle change journey that I embarked back in 2009 so I continue to re-adjust my goals as necessary. My goal is to continue keeping my Active Minutes above 120 minutes per day. I will also be tracking my mileage with my goal to walk 9 miles per day. I will also be tracking my floors climbed but as I don't really encounter many floors in my travels I will be interested in seeing how high I can get this number on a daily basis. Keep moving people, I know I will! DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I love all the activity on this thread! Welcome to each and every one of you and I hope that you accomplished your goals this week. I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE A BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO JOINED THIS THREAD THIS PAST WEEK! We were an amazing 34 strong this past week! This would be three less than last week. I continue to be amazed at your step counts, all of you should be very proud of yourselves! emoticon emoticon emoticon

We are still #1 in the Computer & Electronics category?! That continues to be amazing! As of the posting of this post, we are now at (drum roll please!) 143,449 members strong! Incredibly again, that is 140 more than last week! Compared to last week's membership increase, that is 67 more than the previous week. (FitBit must have started shipping their newest units!) We have arrived to the 143,000 level and now have our eyes on the 144,000 level! This continues to be mind-blowingly impressive!

For those who may not have heard the news. FitBit was purchased by Google over a year ago. According to the CEO of FitBit nothing will change.
UPDATE: There was news this past week of Samsung and Google agreeing to use Google's Wear OS. FitBit will also be utilizing this operating system on its higher end watches, i.e., Sense. Allegedly this will allow these companies to directly compete with Apple watch and there many features, i.e., talking to assistants, answering phone calls, etc. Samsung has announced they will come out with watches at the end of 2021, while FitBit stated it will roll these new watches in 2022. Interesting news, especially for those users who use their watch for all of these uses.
UNCONFIRMED UPDATE:
I read that FitBit will now be offering a Snore and Noise Detector monitoring service for those who use a watch with a microphone, i.e, their Versa 3 and Sense. That service alone may be enough impetus for me to get one of those!

UPDATE: I recently had to get in contact with FitBit's Customer Service and I am happy to report that I had an extremely positive experience. The Customer Service rep went above and beyond the call of duty to assist me. One thing that did stand out is that they have access to the back end of their products and can follow what your device is doing night or day. So if your device is acting strangely, call them, they can walk you though the issue and assist you.
UPDATE TO GOOGLE PURCHASE: It appears that the new Versa 3 may soon become integrated with Google's voice system?! I will share more news as it becomes available.
ALEXA UPDATE: It appears this is now an available feature on both the Versa 3 and the Sense.

I was recently playing with the FitBit App for Windows and clicked on the floors portion of the app. There I found a link that offering more information on how this data was calculated. The page is called "How does my FitBit device calculate my daily activity?" and it is a wealth of new information regarding how the various data items are calculated and collected. I was familiar with some of the information but the description of how it is used to calculate your personal data was fascinating. This is a recommended quick read. (And, careful, don't fall down any "rabbit holes" while there!) Here is the link for the page:

I continue to love my Ionic watch. Even with its strange quirks. This past week my Ionic watch's step count was 16,246 less steps than my One or a -7.91% difference! I do not do a lot of hand movements during my indoor walking periods. I truly though this was the reason for the lack of uniformity when counting steps; however, now I think we need to add spatial movement to the mix. If I move around while walking indoors my steps register but if I step in place, steps are registered very sporadically. The mystery deepens.

It appears that even for the top of the line watch, Ionic, activities involving the hands continue to contribute to the step count. (I wonder if Apple Watch users experience the same issue?) I continue to compare the data and the steps, distance, active time, floors, and distance are relatively the same. The calories are very different and I think that is more due to the heart rate device on my Ionic miscalculating my calories burned. I tend to trust my One's calorie calculations much more (although I am starting to think that the Ionic's calorie reading might not be as out of line as previously thought. I need to do more investigation into this emerging idea). emoticon

I read a story a few weeks ago about a rumored new tracker from FitBit. The tracker was to be an "elegant" version of their Inspire 2 tracker. Lo and behold, I received an email from FitBit announcing that it is taking pre-orders for this new device. It appears the biggest selling points are the display is in color and it can provide call and text notifications. The battery is one-half (10 versus 5 days) of their Inspire 2 but it shares similar features, i.e., swim-proof. The price is $149.95 and is scheduled to ship in late May.

I still continue to lose more weight. I attribute my recent weight loss to a change I made in my eating habits. I love to eat and I never seem to get full. I have to make a very conscious effort to monitor my calories on a daily basis. I begin my day with a light breakfast, some milk and some type of egg sandwich. At work, I don't eat during my breaks, instead choosing to use this time for walks inside our building. I listen to podcasts or music and use my phone to catch up on emails, read, and play games. I find this is very helpful in achieving my daily step goals since I stopped attending the gym (Due to a recent lifestyle change). I drink 6-9 cups of water during the day and eat my "lunch" in the evening. I will have a small dinner later in the evening. I have been also trying to get to bed earlier so this change has definitely helped, too. All of this has resulted in a noticeable drop in my daily calories and my relationship with food. I have literally cut close to 1,000 calories on a daily basis (and sometimes have to push myself to hit 2,000 calories! This is a good change and one not certainly for everybody (or anybody in fact) but it appears to be working for me.
UPDATE: I continue with following this radical plan and it continues to work for me as I am losing more weight. I have dropped 34 pounds in the last eight months! Also, I have done some further research into this new lifestyle of mine and think my method can be classified as fasting. Now I am not starving myself, I am merely choosing to stay away from food for a certain period of time. I am still getting all of my necessary nutrition on a daily basis. I am really loving this lifestyle.

I am truly amazed at how this change in eating habits has positively affected me. I have plenty of energy, find myself sometimes "forcing" myself to eat, and getting much more sleep. While my initial foray into the healthy living world back in 2009 was life-changing, this intermittent fasting lifestyle has been life and mind-altering.

I continue down this path of delaying my lunch and dinner to the end of my day and I continue to enjoy success. The recent holidays did proved to be challenging but following this path has allowed me to get back on schedule with my healthier lifestyle. I am truly pleased with these results.

ADDENDUM: I continue down this "fasting" path and have maintained my recent weight loss. I am amazed at how this one change has impacted my life.

ADDENDUM TO THE ADDENDUM: I have been doing some more research on intermittent fasting (or IT) and now subscribe to the 20/4 plan. Basically I do not eat any meals for 20 hours and then do all of my eating in a 4 hour period. I no longer eat breakfast and now do all of my eating from 6-10pm. This has allowed me to maintain my weight and my lower calorie intake. I sometimes do graze during my non-eating period but it is a hard candy or a piece of fruit. There is also a 16/8 plan for those who want to split their eating between two meal periods. Intermittent fasting has really been a life-saver in my continuing quest to maintain my health.

Our organization is starting its annual "Let's Get Healthy" drive and part of this drive is a push to lose weight. Losing weight can sometimes be very simple while the hard part is keeping the lost weight off. Often times, in our quest to lose weight, we attempt to follow a current fad or try to remove something from our diet. Having been a SparkPeople member for over 10 years I understand that this is not the solution. The solution to losing weight and keeping it off is moderation and activity. Duh, right but these really are the keys to losing and maintaining weight.
But whatever you do, don't give up hope if you "fall off the wagon." Tomorrow is another day to re-start your journey and pick-up where you left off.

Today was a momentous day. Today marks the 4,000 straight day of achieving 10,000 steps or more in my journey to a healthier me. Today, I also learned that this site, SparkPeople.com, is shutting down, effective 08/17/2021. I posted a link to the story on our team page. Nevertheless, I will continue on my road to better health.
This past week I took a grand total of 223,500 steps or an average of 31,929 steps per day. I was active for 1,567 minutes this past week, which is an average of 223 Active Minutes per day. I traveled 108.37 miles or 15.48 miles on average per day and I encountered only 6 floors this past week. I am moving on to next week!
