My goals for this challenge are to try one new kid-friendly healthy recipe per week AND to make-over a family favorite to be healthier :)

My goals is to plan a menu for the week and actually cook it. We tend to get busy and not have time to cook. This week I planned the meals went to the store now I just have to make them each night!

I have joined this challenge because I struggle to make dinner every nite!

I went to the food store yesterday, bought lots of healthy foods, cleaned out my kitchen and restocked it. My kitchen is always organized, menu's always prepared,(OCD if mine). My main goal for this week is to make dinner from my planned menus! Fingers crossed!

Picked my meals for the week.
Bought the food and amazingly kept to the list. (That is a huge issue for me not keeping to the list!!)
Printed a blank week menu and wrote the meals for the week, posted on the fridge!

3 meals made and frozen, ready to go.

Kitchen is sorted and organized!

Edited by: FAIRYANNE3 at: 7/11/2010 (21:25)
Watching salt intake also trying not to buy foods that have high fructose corn syrup, sugar, rice syrup, corn syrup, fructose, sucrose etc. in the first three ingredients.

No foods that have more than 3 ingredients that I can not pronounce.

If an item has more than 10 ingredients I put it on the Do Not Buy List as it is too processed.

One step at a time, NancyPat! Plan, step one. Shop, step two. Organize while putting away, step three. Cook it and enjoy! Don't try to do a whole week's worth at once! Baby steps are always the key. Plan to do, perhaps, one healthy dinner and pack healthy lunch for two days for week one. Then as you get more used to doing it, and more organized, add another dinner and another lunch. It won't be long until you're planning your whole week and enjoying your kitchen.

emoticon Planning menus, shopping, putting away, actually COOKING AND SERVING what I planned all seems overwhelming, especially in my disaster of a kitchen emoticon (which desparately needs a make-over)!

Are you SURE this can be completed in ONE week? emoticon

My initial goal is to plan the menus and make a shopping list.

Because I work a lot of hours outside the home, and my husband works from home, he does most of the cooking. As a result, we eat a lot of prepackaged foods, full of preservatives and junk. I find that when I plan things for him, it takes the thought out of meal time, and he does make the healthy things I suggest. My goal for this week is to plan all of our dinners, and have all the ingredients ready that he needs to make this new healthier fare.

on Sat and Sun make up a batch of something in the crockpot (that will give me lots of leftovers)
On Sunday make my salad for the week (either veggie or fruit)
On Sunday make up my water bottles to take to work--one plain water to refill during the day and my "treat" water bottle that has crystal light in it for after work.

My goal
I copied down some recipes from SP to make better nutrictional meals. You all heard of the saying "same old stuff" well that's us,but that's going to change. I'm going to cook meals that is not only good, but also good for you by following the recipes. Going to get rid of any processed food.

So have to go grocery shopping for food other than box food.

I started SP back in Jan 12th 2008. I lost down to 153 in Sep 2008. But gained some back.
This year i hope to reach my goal weight of 145.

Hi everyone,

While I am blessed to have a hubby that cooks and can make something out of nothing (I need to follow recipes LOL!), I would like to start doing more of the cooking myself.

My initial goals include:
* To always clean a mess as I make a mess so the kitchen stays in top shape all the time rather than most of the time.
* To go through my cook books and pieces of paper recipes and weed out what is unhealthy or we have and will never make. What remains will be put away in an easy to get to place, in an organized way.
* To start planning a week's meals at a time. My hubby doesn't like to be that structured - "what if I don't feel like "XX" on Wednesday?" - so I will plan for all the meals with the flexibility of when we have them during the week.

That should be enough to get me started for now!

Chrissy, SparkRecipes can be searched by how long they take to prepare. Just plug in your average time available to get a meal and see if anything useful comes up. I like the 30 minute or less category for weeknights.

My goal is to get planning meals and cooking again! Since moving, I have let that slide, and we have been eating out WAY too much. That's over as of now! At least 5 dinners and 5 lunches a week will be cooked and eaten at home.

I need more time and less waste too.

My goal is to only eat a restaurant meal once a month. I already plan out all our meals for the week and make my list each Friday and shop on Saturday or Sunday; We cook most of the time; I've cut about 90% of processed food from our diets; My kitchen is OCD organized & stocked.

Lunches are my down fall. My problem is that I work full time and my DH works a full time and part time job and we have a 2 year old DD. By the time we both get home, get dinner/family time done, he goes off to his other job, DD & I go to the gym, and I get her home and ready/into bed I'm too tired to make my lunch. So I tell myself that I'll just run home during lunch the next day and grab it. Which usually means I'm never gonna make it to the house. Subway or (don't cringe) McD's is where I'll end up. In addition to lunch out about 2 days a week, we also go out for dinner about once a week too. So, though I've bought and planned for those meals to be at/from home, it ends up being wasted (especially produce) because it doesn't get used fast enough. That's a lot of $$$ down the drain.

This week I tried a different strategy. Sunday afternoon while DD was taking her nap DH and I spent a couple hours in the kitchen prepping ALL our food for the week. breakfast for both of us to take to work, lunches for me (he goes home everyday), 5 proteins, starches, and veggies for dinners for the week, and 2 snacks/day for me. All done and it didn't take all day. I'm hoping that by having all the prep work done ahead of time it'll sav4e us some time in the kitchen each day and help make what little family time we have together each day less hectic and better quality. Having lunches & snacks ready to go will keep me away from the drive through.

My goals:

- Plan meals for Mon, Wed, and Fri
- Avoid convenience foods on Tues and Thurs
- Eat at home on the weekends
- Grocery shop every Sunday for the upcoming week's meals
- Get 3-5 servings of freggies every day!

I do really well with my lunches (although many are TV dinner style, I try to choose the healthier ones), but dinners always get me, especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays when I'm eating alone. I've been all about the frozen pizzas, and while I'm not adverse to pizza, I'd like to be smart about it!
