Well, my first week is not quite done, but I have my goals. It is to be in bed by 930 each night, with no distractions (I have to get up pretty early).

By no distractions, I mean no TV, no net, etc... Turn everything off... Those can eat up so much time at the end of the day!

Take a look at my blog - www.believingastronomer.com

Most weekends my days are more under my control so getting my sleep on the weekends is not difficult. It is during the work week that I have problems!

On work nights, I am going to have to start forcing myself to stop whatever I am doing around 10:30pm and go get ready for bed. It sounds simple enough but there is so much going on that achieving that is mighty difficult!!

I'm on the Stress Busting Challenge as well and just posted this in the Week 1 thread:

It's me, Grönare Gräs, here again at the end of Week 1. I've identified main stressors alongside with sleep-related problems and have found that my sleep and stress level are very closely tied together, so stress-reducing related goals are to implement good sleep habits to give me energy to sail a bit lighter through hardship.

Another thing in common in both challenges is the diary-keeping part; I really need to document just a bit more how my levels go up and down because that in turn helps me remind myself of the importance of daily habits of different kinds. In short, I crave stability very much right now.

I didn't think I'd actually be this excited but I am! Maybe it's because I feel like I'm not a victim but rather the boss finally taking the control I both need and deserve as part of being kind to myself. Yay. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

* * *

As far as specific goals regarding sleeping goes, it's fairly basic I can see. Go to bed at approximately the same time each night and get up at around the same time each morning. Maybe weekends might slide a bit but the eight hours of sleep should still be put in.

It's Summer and the flat is hot (I live in Finland where the hot season is usually very short, so AC is not what we invest in here), but it won't last much longer anymore and then the temp will go down, giving me better sleep.

I change bed linen weekly so that the bed would feel as inviting and fresh as possible. Maybe it's a bit silly to mention here, but some people change theirs once monthly or not even that which is really gross considering all the bed bugs which have reached a billion by then (only ten million after one week, thirty after two weeks). Our budget is very limited right now, but this is the least we can do to make the "bedroom" (one-room flat) feel as much of a safe haven as possible.

I almost never drink coffee after 18 or 19, because caffeine too late makes the sleeping rhythm go down the drain. I could try and drink even less during the day though.

I would love to get into a better sleeping pattern and hope to do so with the following things:

1. Take my meds at specific times daily to eliminate the inconsistencies
2. Go to bed at the same time every night
3. When getting up, go straight into the shower to wake up
4. Avoid caffeine
5. Track my sleeping habits in a journal
6. Create a bedtime routine

I'm naturally an early riser. No matter how late I go to bed, I can never sleep past 10 am. Granted, I rarely sleep that late anyways, sometimes it's hard for me to fall asleep when I want. It's something I need to work on now while I still have the chance before classes start in August. It's gonna be rough when I have a class at 7 am...Eek!

I average about 5 hours sleep a night and seem to function pretty well on that. I know I probably need to get at least 7 hours. There is just not enough time in the day to do everything I need to do so, therefore, I sleep less.

It's not a short-term diet. It's a long-term lifestyle change.

My goal is to sleep at normal night hours and stay awake during the day. I am retired so my daily schedule is my own. The problem with this is I find myself up all hours in the night, usually on my pc. That causes me to sleep very late into my day and I finally end up with my sleep hours the reverse of what I would like them to be. I don't want to sleep in the day and be up half the night. I would like to change my schedule to be an early riser.

Another goal is to be more comfortable while I am sleeping. I use a c-pap machine and I have yet to find a mask I like. I use Remzzz's to line my mask and that has helped immensely but I still would like to find the most comfortable mask for me. Also included in this goal is being regular in the use of my mask.

My third goal is to wake up feeling more refreshed and, if necessary, take a short nap early afternoon rather than late afternoon. I know a late nap might cause me to stay up too late.

My goals for this challenge are:
Start a “go to bed” routine
Get to sleep by 12AM
Wake @ 8 a.m., pray and be “up and at’em” by 8:30 am (no later than 8:45)

No dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven.

My goals are to:

1) Be in bed around 10pm.
2) Get full night's sleeps. I'm a very light sleeper, causing me to wake multiple times throughout the night.
3) Keep a journal next to the bed and actually use it when I can't sleep.
4) Start a "getting ready for bed" routine.

My goal is to get in bed by 8:00 and to wake up at 3:30 a.m. I wake up at around this time without an alarm clock; however, my problem is that I don't get in bed at a reasonable time.

My goal is to get to bed by 10:30pm and get up by 7am (6:30 wake-up, plus half hour to lay in bed - I need it!) on the weekdays. And be in bed by midnight weekends, but still up by 7am. I need 8 hours min a night, and it's really easy for me to get into a habit of staying up until 1-2am and not getting enough sleep.

My goal is two-fold: (1) stay on my feet so I don't nap-out after work for an hour or two [this goal obviously impacts goal 2]; and (2) start going to bed at a consistent time each evening [even weekends].

My goal is to get enough sleep that it does not take me 3 alarms to get me OUT of bed, and be truly 'awake' BEFORE I leave the house to drive.

The first step is to have a 'bed' time.

My goal is to get at least 8 hours sleep within 24 hours. Since I nap for about 2 hours in the afternoon then I plan on that and 6 to 8 hours at night.
Don't tell me not to nap as it doesn't make any difference if I fall asleep at night or not.

Hello all,

My goal is to go to bed at 11pm and get up by 7. That should give me 8 hours of sleep. I suffer from narcolepsy after working 20+ years of night shift but i now work mostly 8 hour days. I do pick up one night shift a week to make ends meet.

This is also my first week. I joined the challenge team last night, just like RockyCPA. My goal is to get 7 solid hours of sleep each night and not doze on the sofa prior to going up to bed. If that means I have to keep moving or go to bed earlier, so be it. Wish me luck!

I am just starting this challenge tonight. I have never had sleeping problems until this summer when I came back home from college and got a new bed. A series of changes happened when I went back home but the lack of sleep really annoyed me. I want to get back to where a was before. I'm going to keep up with my journal this week. I hope this helps. I'm sure it will.

My Goals are to learn how to get a good nights sleep consistantly. I have completed the first week and have been very good about keeping my Journal. I am surprised that some foods I eat keep me awake! I'm hoping that, as I progress, I will find other helpful suggestions and ways to get the rest I need to feel better during the day.

It appears that I don't sleep as often as I thought! So, here are my goals for this week:

1. Go to bed by 12am
2. try to sleep until at least 8am
3. drink at least 5 cups of water a day (this will be tough!)
4. get my exercise in at least 4 of the 7 days
5. continue with the sleep journal

Wish me luck, as I wish you luck!

This past week, was hit and miss with sleep. My goal for this coming week is to be in bed by midnight. I know that sounds late but I have a class until 10:30 pm every night next week, starting on Monday. I can't see driving home, decompressing and getting ready for bed before 12 am.

During the summer, I have a goal of 12 am to 8 am, sleep. I am a teacher, so I am off all summer.

Getting to bed by 11:00, regardless of what the spouse is doing. As it is, I tend to stay up way later to "be with him", and it hinders my sleep schedule.

My goal is to get UP by the same time... I have 8:30 classes this upcoming semester, and usually I would sleep in until about 8:20 and then roll out of bed in the pjs to class (so bad, I know!!!). My goal for the summer is to eventually get up by 7:30am, so I can eat some breakfast and do some writing before class.
SO! Weekly goal: since I've been getting up around 1 pm, I want to get up by 12:00pm this week, and slowly make my way back each week, with being able to get up by 7/7:30ish by September 1st.

My goals are to get into bed by 9:30 each night even if my adult daughter won't be coming in for a while (she has a very busy schedule). If I haven't heard from her what time she is coming or if she had to cover as supervisor for a shelter, then I will feed her cats right before I go to bed so I don't worry about them getting fed.
Also if my cat Squeak starts clawing at my door in the night and wakes me, I will promptly put her in her carrier. (Later at a regular bathroom break, I will let her out since she usually behaves after that.)

My goals are to get to bed by 11pm so that I can get at least 7.5 hours of sleep, and to sleep no later than 1hr past my normal wake-up time on weekends.

Hi again. My name is Maricela and I'm completing my Week one goals post.

I joined this challenge because I need help with getting the proper amount of rest for my body. I've always been a night owl, never ever been a morning person. But I think its time to flip that. I wanna be a morning person but I need help.

So my goals are:
-Going to bed at an appropriate time NO LATER THAN 10:30pm.
-Getting up at 5:00am and NOT going back to sleep.
-Keeping that same routine on the weekends.
-Stop eating at least 3 hours before going to bed so that would be no later than 7pm.

-Maricela-

Goals for July...
Start a bedtime ritual.
Take my sleep aid of choice by midnight daily (except the nights I am hiking at midnight, then take it when we are done hiking, and when I work night shift, then take it when I get off)
Look for a job that does not switch from night to evenings to days
Sleep better!!

My goal is to change my sleep pattern and schedule so I am awake and energized to be with my children and be active with them! Not stay up all night and want to chill all day!
