I once traveled a lot, which exposed me to many foods some I disliked but I have been able accept and appreciate foods from around the world. Once in a while we have " International night" as and extended family . It gets more and more interesting each time.

Caveat: no disrespect for WW members. It just didn't work for me over the long haul. I am a Lifetime Member of Weight Watchers. I lost 53 lbs. under that program ten years ago. But I found myself repeating the same old food over and over, so -- once I reached my goal -- I think I was bored into returning to a version of my old eating habits. I only gained a little over 20 lbs., but that was enough to scare me into looking for alternatives. SparkPeople is a wonderful alternative. I still use some of the WW tools, but now I have so many more, including the recipes and the ability to input my own food finds!

I started stopping by my local WAWA every single day and grabbing the 44 ounce sized cup and filling it up with ice and water from the fountain dispenser. Not only is it FREE - I guzzle fresh-tasting water and refill at work and just TWO of these babies meets the recommended daily water intake for a woman. I started out with the small cups and they were letting me go, then I would reuse the cup and refill. Finally I decided to TRY and see if they'd let me get a big cup and they DO!!! It's AwEsOmE!

I'm pretty good about trying new things except for raw fish. That has to be cooked. Raw fruits & veggies are fine!

I will try new things....especially if someone else has it and I can just "try" it. Also, remember to re-taste things you didn't like in the past...your taste buds change and sometimes you find you like things you didn't before.

I love to try new foods. Have tried many vegetables since joining an organic farm. Love fruits and vegetables and will at least try it once.

Hot-chocolate, oatmeal, cream of wheat or anything with warm or hot milk makes me gag, I don't know why. Other than that I'm willing to try any food at-least once.

I have always been open to trying new foods. The only exception is if it won't go past my nose - it won't go in my mouth. LOL A co-worker made goat one time and I really was going to try it, but it stunk so bad I just couldn't do it. The only food I HATE is cottage cheese. I don't know why. My Mom and siblings all like it but I just gag watching someone else eat it. Who knows?

I agree with K_Renee, start small. I love pears and have been only eating yellow pears, so I decided to try different varieties of pears and found out that I liked all of them, bosc especially.

I'll try any food once, as long as it doesn't have guacamole on it.

Found several foods I really like. My fiance claims your taste buds will change every 7 yrs or so, I'm beginning to think he's right, their is some stuff I like now that I hated when I was younger!

I keep an open mind when it comes to trying new foods. With that said I won't taste something if I don't like the smell. Can't stand the smell of brussel sprouts!

To those who express a bit of trepidation, I suggest trying new fruits first. Fruits are usually sweet and refreshing and require little to no prep, so it's usually a safer bet. And to go a step further, even if you don't want to venture too far try this: say for example you like apples. Instead of getting the same Gala apples at the store, get Braeburn or Golden Delicious. It's a small step, but a forward step nonetheless!

As others have said... variety is the spice of life! I am changing from buying canned beans to cooking up dried beans, using my crockpot.I have done some research online and i will let you all know how it works out!
I am also using fresh lemon juice on steamed veggies.

Lucky me, i will try most anything. This winter, I planted fava beans in my garden plot at church. Just harvested the first few yesterday. Went on line to find some ideas on how to prepare. Wish me luck! ( lucky me, my husband will eat anything I cook...without complaints)

I agree, you have to try new things. I believe this even more so when it comes to veggies. When I started my journey I knew part of me becoming healthier was eating more veggies. If it wasn't lettuce, tomatoes and onions (in salad form), then I really didn't eat it. Sad, but true. I learned to roast veggies and start eating all kinds of veggies and I have yet to find one I don't like. And I'm all the more healthier for it.

So it really is important to try new things.

I'm afraid I'm one of those people who won't try something if I imagine I won't like it. Actually, my husband will try anything and will know if I won't like it or not...he "helps" me. And he's right most of the time. But I have tried some new-to-me produce over the last few years and now I LOVE mangoes!!!

Taking it one step at a time.

I recently tried avocado for the first time, and I loved it. Glad I just bought one and tried it.

It is important to explore a verity of foods, that means trying it at least once. For me I have reactions to Pineapple,Msg and Shell fish, this keeps me in an alert mode when eating out. Never-the-less over the pass 40 years I've developed and eaten some strange combinations (and survived)LOL Thats what my children say. I like colorful and tasty foods.

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able ; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it (1 Cor. 10: 13)

that's very true. I have a co-worker that told me she recently discovered that she likes beans! She said that if her mother would be turning in her grave if she knew she ate beans now!

I believe the same way. Don't say you don't like something if you have never tried it.
There are foods I have never liked yet if they are made differently I will at least take one bite. I have found by doing so a certain recipe may be more platatable.
A person's taste buds mature as they mature. So try one small bit of something different when you can.

I have quite an adventurous palate... sometimes so much so LOL. But what they say is true-- variety is the spice of life. It's fun to try new things and experiment with new cuisines.

A lot of times I hear people say they don't like a certain food and when you ask them if they've ever tried it they say no. That's not right! I think you should try everything, that way you can discover new favorites. If you weed out a few unsavories in the process, well that's okay too. At least you can say you tried it!
