First of all, make sure you are listing everything; like every drop of dressing. Secondly, get very familiar with portion sizes. If you order lunch in or go out for lunch you have to be able to judge those portion sizes in order to accurately list foods in the tracker. Lastly, if I'm very below my caloric intake on a constant basis, I try to consume more at breakfast. Eating egg substitute scrambled with some vegetables, a piece of low carb toast, fruit (I like bananas), and a glass of skim milk holds me for a good long time. I also divide up some calories that I use for emergency snacks. Personally, I'm a night time snacker. I always leave some calories available for some pretzel sticks (100 cals.), a piece of fruit (100 cals.), popcorn or something like that. It gets me closer to the suggested caloric intake. Eating more vegetables, fiber, and good carbs naturally fills you up more and you are less hungry. However, in order for you to burn fat you need to feed your metabolism. If you are far below the recommended cal. intake you will eventually force your body to slow your metabolism to hold onto fat reserves. I do often have to adjust my meals, especially breakfast, to include healthy, nutritionally dense choices to push up those calories. I just avoid eating empty calories just to boost the number of calories consumed.

I keep coming up short on calories, but I'm not hungry. I don't want to eat just to get calories in.... I eat when I need to during the day and after dinner I track my food for the whole day (no access to SP during work) and I keep coming up short. I don't want to eat calories after I'm done for the day just to meet calories... advice? emoticon

Yes. Actually, most of the time I pretty far below the range given. Given a choice, I'd rather eat a lot of vegetables, fruit, and other low calorie, fiber-filled foods, than eat things that grab a lot of my allotted calories.

I was low--and I even had gelato that a friend made for me. But only by 50 and today I'm trying to hit the upper end of my calorie range, because I've read that varying the calorie range keeps the metabolism from getting too efficient.

Haven't had a problem with the calories yet but I can't seem to get enough calcium. I can one short of the goal today which is better than any day since I started. I can't figure what else to do. I have drank milk three times a day, a yogurt everyday and even had cheese today yet I can't hit the mark. Anyone got any ideas?

I managed to get the calories, proteina and fat in range but still have trouble getting enough carbs. I think I have been damaged by all the low-carb claptrap of the last couple of decades.

No. Felt like I ate a lot all day, but ended up being almost 400 calories short. This is not good. Might be because I ate a lot of protein calories and they make me feel full. Part of the problem was that I didn't add my final calories in until this morning. If I'd done it right after dinnner, I could have eaten some almonds or avocado and gotten up to 1600 calories.

I did but only because we went to Wendy's for dinner. I was worried about going over but stuck to a plain baked potato and small chili and it satisfied me without going over. YEAH! (and it was pretty cold so it not only filled me up but hit the spot!)

I did, although I had to eat an extra 150 calories at the end of the day in order to reach the low end. But I know it's important to stay within the range, because I did Bernstein, got down to about 600 calories a day, dropped 120 pounds in 8 months and then put it all back on again plus 20 over the 4 years after I stopped the program (in fairness to Bernstein, I didn't do their maintenance program).
