Good job, Loren and Greb!

1. 5 fruits and vegetables a day. Mostly met this. I've had a few bad days, but I work on bouncing back the next day.

2. 1000 minutes of exercise. Already met this! The garden has helped.

3. Take time for myself each day. Still doing well with this.

Good job Greb!

For me

Work on lower leg strength to help with foot connective tissue.
Did pretty good here. I missed one or random reasons, and I could feel a back slide. This is certainly a goal for next month. It was like a gateway drug for working out.

Work on basement beautification
This got drafted into yard, garage, driveways, outside wonderfulness. DH did haul some junk out of the basement during some rainy days and and organized the crock pots.

Work on yard spring cleanup
Yah. Built a castle. Did stuff. All good.

Now we need to get some basement stuff done.

Nearing the end of the month...

emoticon Still consistently and effortlessly high on the oxalates. Eric at most of my collards (gomen wat) so I'll need to go shopping today, but my spinach intake remains deliciously high.

emoticon behind on entering food from my notes into Spark food tracker, but what I've tracked has been deficits most of the time, just not as large as I was hoping I could do.

emoticon I did have a few days when I didn't sign in to Spark. I keep up with one thing; I get behind on another...

emoticon not perfect, I have been walking regularly enough to feel I've earned my Big Bad Wolf 5K

Yeah, lots of evidence that the risk for most of our evolutionary history was starvation, not metabolic disease, I guess. I find that I can run pretty hard on a low calorie day if my blood sugar isn't low at the time that I want to work out. And I can assuage the sensation of hunger with a snack of some carbs and lots of fiber (yesterday it was carrot and jicama slices to scoop up white bean artichoke dip). But I share your experience of just shutting down and ending up in bed early. My body will tolerate a 700 calorie debt if I eat 1700 and burn 2400 but I feel weak with a 500 calorie debt if I eat 1300 and burn 1800. But the difference between 1800 and 2400 calories burned is two or three hours of movement, and THAT is hard to fit into the day. I probably just have to accept that I'm going to lose the weight more slowly than I gained it.

On a much more cheerful note, I am totally enjoying imagining your minion castle and cannon. That sounds AMAZING.

The calories deficit thing is no joke. If i cut calories my exercise plummets. If I force the exercise I feel crummy and end up in bed early. The body makes sure things stay pretty even, like it knows things ;).

I've found that just doing things that don't feel like exercise works best for me, which means walking. If I did the equivalent biking or running I'd be eating all the food. Walking still makes me hungry, but it is less severe.

Things are still on track for me. Biggest update, we got in some yard bricks so we are building a little castle in the yard. A place the put the minions and cannon.

You two are inspiring - yay for playing in the dirt and taking time for yourself.

emoticon Probably low on the oxalates today - you can pack in a lot more spinach when it's cooked into saag paneer than in a fresh salad. That said, my salad was delicious, and there was rhubarb pie.

emoticon tracking is useful. I have now had a deficit 15 of the last 21 days, but I think I may be trying to get too large a deficit 'cause I'm so impatient to lose the COVID weight. When I look at my color-coded data, I am obviously cycling, hitting my calorie goal two days out of four, but then being ravenous and sluggish for the next two days. It goes both ways, too. The day we went for fries and I ate 2500 calories was followed by an 850 calorie day 'cause I just didn't feel like eating. They days with good deficits that AREN'T followed by hungry slothful days are when I eat 200 to 300 calories over goal, but then I'm in motion for a couple hours instead of for 30 minutes. I think my body is trying to tell me something, but I'm trying not to hear it 'cause it's quicker to shrink a meal than to go for a run. I do not know how you two seem to accomplish so much with the same 24 hours that I have.

emoticon getting onto Spark more consistently, which is both a joy and a curse. I do know that my monthly goals usually crash mid-month 'cause I don't check on them, so for that alone, I think it's worth it.

emoticon still getting in 30 minutes of walking daily - I think I just missed one this month. today was another day where that was three short stints rather than one nice long one, but I'll take it. I think if I hold this one for the rest of the month I'm going to reward myself with a sign up for a face-to-face 5K (dressed in red with a cape to chase the Big Bad Wolf away - I so love silly race themes!)

Good job, ladies!

Here's my update:

1. 5 fruits and vegetables a day. Doing pretty well with this. Looking forward to my garden veggies, though that will be a bit.

2. 1000 minutes of exercise. On track. Half-way through the month and a little over halfway to this goal. I'm loving my time digging in the dirt.

3. Take time for myself each day. I'm still cross stitching every day and I really feel anxious when something delays me from starting when I want to start.

Spending time with family is a good way to spend time though.

About half way though the month.

Work on lower leg strength to help with foot connective tissue.

Doing very well here. I do think it is helping. Apparently it is also like a gateway drug where it leads to be doing other weight training to round things out a little bit.

Work on basement beautification

This has pretty much been put on hold in favor of doing the outside things. We need to get the outside under control and the weather has been the BEST! So yeah, no complaints there.

Work on yard spring cleanup

This is going very well. Lots to do, but the progress and tilted to the point where it actually looks like progress is being made instead of just more mess happening. Yah!

I am envying the garden work. I was supposed to be at a workshop for maintaining street trees Thursday, but had the kids' grandparents show up from Tennessee so we spent the evening with them instead, Bapa isn't so steady on his feet anymore so that wasn't a walking visit.

emoticon Still hitting the oxalates. This one is more of a tracking challenge - I haven't had to change my eating habits to consume a ton of it. I think I'm going to stop checking regularly and just go back at the end of the month to see how much I ate.

emoticon calorie deficit 9 of the last 13 days. need to do better, but trending the right way.

emoticon 30 min walks Wed and Thu although not all at once Thursday

emoticon didn't get to sparkpeople yesterday either, but I've started off tracking pretty consistently. will be back again in another two or three days!

Thanks Greb and Loren! Good job on your goals.

For me:

1. 5 fruits and vegetables a day. Doing okay. Most days I meet this but had a rough day yesterday.

2. 1000 minutes of exercise. On track. Plus, with garden work this month, shouldn't be an issue.

3. Take time for myself each day. I'm cross stitching every day. It's keeping my sanity.

Work on lower leg strength to help with foot connective tissue.

Doing okayish here.

Work on basement beautification

Haven't done much here, mostly outside stuff.

Work on yard spring cleanup

This has spread to include doing a garage and driveway cleanout as well. It is all of DHs building supplies (he welds and does wood work). So this got big, and heavy :). So much to do.

Yay for shared goals

emoticon the oxalate goal is too easy. spinach is delicious, as are cocoa, sweet potatoes, peanut butter...

emoticon had a deficit May 1-3, but last night we curled up to watch Rogue One and made a bowl of popcorn and that tipped the balance since I hadn't moved much.

emoticon only got in a very brief walk on Tuesday, but I'll do better today, not least because I have to go to the laundromat.

emoticon yeah, didn't spend any time on sparkpeople yesterday, although I DID change my image to one May the 4th appropriate. I supposed I should find a Cinco de Mayo image for today.

Are you two off to a good start?

emoticon food goal for the next couple months is to eat at least 500 mg of oxalate a day. This isn't so much a health goal as a dare to my kidneys arising from a conversation with friends, one of who thinks I eat a dangerous amount of spinach.

emoticon more serious food goal is to have a calorie deficit (comparing what my FitBit says I've burned to what SparkPeople says I've consumed) every day until Labor Day. Already screwed up yesterday, but I had a week-long streak before that.

emoticon exercise goal is to do a 30 minute walk every day. GirlTrek founders' TED talk re-inspired me and I've been going strong for 18 days so far. This is how I will fight my way back to good health.

emoticon instead of my usual nerdy goal, I'm going to be consistent about logging in to SparkPeople once a day, but then logging back off in less than 30 minutes!

Look forward to hearing about your successes on the boards!
