August Goals and Ambitions

Yah update. I am impressed at your ability to remember what happened back in August :).

Never closed out August:

3 swims
2 runs
1 bike ride

did the two runs and 1 bike ride, but only one trip to the pool. going for a swim now in 30 minutes when the Y opens.

scope out Play It Loud exhibit and prep a GooseChase scavenger hunt and cool picnic lunch

Play It Loud excursion was a hit with the kids and my co-teacher. Picnic lunch moved to McDonalds because of transportation issues, though, which was also a hit with the kids, alas.

complete full unit plans for both Geometry classes before meeting with Emmanuel on Friday

I've been steady with planning this school year, but Emmanuel and I have not done a good job of staying on task when we meet to go over them, which I'm finding frustrating. Gotta think about how to resolve that.

be ready for everything on the posters at this first astronomy club star party (dunno why I'm having such a hard time figuring out the regions of the sky map that should be on the various parts of our bucky-dome planetarium - I KNOW I effectively solved this problem in a different context 30 years ago)

Astronomy club prep was good to go and then the clouds thwarted me once again. I really need a well-attended meeting before the Mercury transit on the 11th!!!

get supplies ordered for the Girls Who Code first wiring project (and maybe images to spur their thinking)

Still need to get the GWC plans together. I know what I want to do, but sourcing within my budget is a challenge.

finish organizing materials for the debate watch party on the 12th, including having contacts at each of the campaigns for students who decide they want to get involved

Again, I was well prepared but provoking student interest was my challenge.

and pack lunches Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday that include veggie sticks for when I'm craving a snack at the end of the day and (Wednesday) provoke colleagues to consider joining me in a lunch bunch

Can't even remember if I did this. I have been packing my lunches about half the time this year, but lunch bunch is a no go.

That sounds pretty good to me. Mindful eating can be even more powerful than tracking if done right. Good job!

As for me:
1. Keep up my walking/jogging training. I have been enjoying that for July so I thought I'd keep it up.

Done. Some of the jogs were pretty rough, especially when the humidity was high, but I got them all in!

2. Get in my 10,000 steps a day.

Also done! Some days I just paced in the house, but they all got in.

3. Eat when hungry, stop when full.

Mixed. There were a few times where I know I should have stopped but chose not to. I give myself a 75%.

Oh to September!

I made my goal of 800 minutes, but I did not take the time to track my calories daily. That said I have been watching what I'm eating and eating less, but not tracking.

Okay, I've let the month go by so that there's just one week left. So my goal list is more of a to do list for this last seven days. I'm shooting for

I'm glad you gave yourself permission to take a step back at the conference. Those things can be overwhelming and then you end up just going through the motions and being miserable if you push to hard. Smart move.

Also, congrats on breaking the bad habit. That is really hard to do!!!

That should read did NOT so much learn as...

So I set a few goals with my health coach earlier this month.

Successes so far:
(1) Spent 12 days or so at CMU in Pittsburgh attending a HoTT Summer School and Conference. I was getting burned out second day of conference, gave myself permission to miss lectures and all went great. Did so much learn that much as I was exposed to a lot. Now I need to see the stuff a second and third time.

(2) Walked for at least 40 minutes about nine of those days.

(3) Yesterday morning I was at 241 point something.

(4) Broke bad habit.

(5) I did have trouble with caffeine the past two weeks.

Thanks for the check-in. It's the middle of the month and I have 480 fitness minutes, so I'm on track to get to 800.

I haven't been the most consistent with tracking food, but I've gotten better. Need to focus more on that now.

Time for a check in.

I've continued my running. I am slower when it is hot and faster when it is cooler or raining. I am really really looking forward to fall!!!

I have gotten my 10000 steps in everyday. Yah. Almost gave up a few times but pulled it off.

As for eating. I am doing okay-ish. My sweet tooth came for a visit, and that threw things, but I'd give myself a 70% or so.

I am keeping mine simple.
