That's funny, have you squeezed the fireman today? Yes? Then everything will be a-okay. I want a squishy fireman too, I'll just bring up that image when I pause to take a breather

Rebekah likes this challenge. She says I'm too stressed.

A few weeks back the fire department here had an openhouse. At one of the tables they had lots of goodies that you could take (the souvenier hat, coloring book, crayons, etc.) They also had a squishy fireman. Made out of the same foamy stuff as the stress ball. Well we liked them and took about 4 so they seem to be all over the place now. So today when I go into the car rushing and fussing about something, she held up the ball and asked, "Have you squeezed a fireman today?"

Personal Motto: There, but for the grace of God, goeth I.

Thanks for all of your good wishes. Today we have started to write down all the little incidents we remember from our beloved Alfie's life. It helps to think about the great times we had together. Dogs are such social creatures -- they really are a part of the family to the extent that you allow them to be.

Sara--I'm sorry about your dog! Losing a dog is always difficult!

Katty--I wish I had a break from all things school during the holidays...in the US, we have a couple weeks off at Chrustmas, but go back to the same classes...I usually spend some of my vacation working on school stuff and tend to go in one day to work as well.

I am going to try this...I have been working on calming life down and it's been starting to work.

This is important but really hard today. We had to put down our beloved older dog, whose health deteriorated rapidly over the past few days. He was fine on Sunday, and now he's gone. This is a very difficult thing to do, and we're still crying, but we'll get over it and remember all the wonderful times we had with him. Every time I try to just breathe, I start to cry again. Maybe tomorrow...

I tried this yesterday, and found that in order to make the first part work I had to go outside and shut my eyes, lol. There is not a place in my house at the moment that doesn't bring on the "what am I doing sitting here" feeling. But outside with my eyes closed, I could pretend, and breathe deep. Now as I progressed to the second part where I concentrated on me, it was much easier, but I do need a manicure, lol. Very relaxing at that point. Thanks.

I always wonder whether my crazy ideas are going to help, and I am always amazed to see they do!

Today I stopped the clock in the morning.

And did it again in the evening after work. But I didn't sit down. I did it as i washed the dishes! I was standing there mumbling how I hated my lack of counter space and how umcomfortable my kitchen is. And then I remembered the challenge and did the breathing and did the looking around.

Guess what? Because you have to really look instead of just see, my mind stopped those ugly thoughts to concentrate on the space I was looking at. Then something amazing happened! I noticed that my kitchen wasn't as dirty as I thought it, and it wasn't as ugly either!. I noticed the new curtains, so pleasing to the eye, noticed the wall that was painted last summer(yes, just one wall), the new cupboard I bought some months ago. As I did that and breathed in and out, the dishes were all done and I had my working counter space back (which isn't larger than a regular tray but I can do things there.)
And my mind stopped for some minutes and I lived the present!

This is so relevant for me this week. I have been feeling as though there's no way I can get everything done. You've reminded me of the importance of stopping to breathe and regroup. Just doing that will make everything easier. Thanks, Katty!

Katty, you did it again.... I must have been writing my blog just as you were posting this message. This time you were looking over my shoulder, not just peeking in my window, lol.

This Challenge is going to be a "breath of fresh air" sorta speak. For the past few weeks I have been learning to just be in the moment instead of spending my time in the past or figuring out the future. Sounds simple but for some reason it is more of a challenge that it sounds. Good luck to all of us. emoticon

THis is a very serious challenge!
THe holidays are near and many people get all anxious about it.
The school year is coming to an end and there is so much to do some other people get all anxious (like ...me!)
There are some other people who are all anxious about medical exams results.
There are some who are in the process of moving, or just moved and are trying to make a hpme out of their houses, and once again, they are all anxious!
See a pattern here?
Well, the results of all that anxious activity is, as Flyldy usually says, we feel like a hen running around with the head cut off!. Literally! No wonder our eating habits are so bad! We barely notice what we eat! We barely notice what we do at all because we're all so occupied putting out fires!

So the challenge this week is to stop the clock and breathe!

THis is how you'll do it:
When you feel you're all rushed out or too troubled or too disconnected from yourself, when you give a sharp answer, when you feel sad or down, you know, when you have that feeling inside that something is not going well, you're going to

empty your hands of whatever in in them
sit
take a deep breath (this is to slow down in mind and body)
look around you, but not just seeing, not just passing you eyes over things, but really noticing things. This will help you focus on the present moment (I am here)
Close your eyes and take another deep breath
Look at yourself (look at what you're wearing, look at your shoes, look at your handssmooth your hair) THis will help you focus on yurself. (This is me in this space at this moment)
Take another deep breath and let the air burst out from you with strength. You're letting go of all the anxiety in that last action

Go on with your life!

Do this once or twice in the day and please share about it in the forum.

-next week we start our home challenges again to be ready for busy November and December, so make the most of this challenge!-
