2011 will soon be upon us... Many of us will reflect on the past year and our ACCOMPLISHMENTS should be at the TOP of that list! We have ALOT to be PROUD of!!!

Tradition, since 1907 (with exceptions during WWII), ends the year with the dropping of the New Years Eve Ball. This tradition holds memories, I'm sure, for alot of us.... Toasting the next year and well wishes. If your are like me, it might mean just a little bit more, since New York is my HOME :)

So, in the spirit of marking the end of 2010, this Challenge will be in honor, if you will, of the lights (though they have changed several times through-out they years) that brighten the way into 2011.

TEAM CHALLENGE -

L - 1 Light will be lit for your LIMITED Intake! (You must stay with-in your Calorie Range! For every 100 Calories, you get to Light 1 light).

E - 1 Light will be lit for every 10 mins of EXERCISE that you do!

D - 1 Light will be lit for every 8oz of water you DRINK!

GOAL - 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs (light emitting diodes) by 12/31/10!

The New Year's Eve Ball

The Ball is a geodesic sphere, 12 feet in diameter and weighing 11, 875 pounds, built to withstand the stresses of high winds, precipitation and temperature fluctuation to brightly shine over 400 feet above Times Square throughout the year. For 2011, Waterford Crystal has designed 288 new “Let There Be Love” crystal triangles featuring a romantic pattern that blends a modern cascade of hearts with diamond cutting. 288 triangles are emblazoned with last year's "Let There Be Courage" design of a ribbon medal defining the triumph of courage over adversity; and 1,152 triangles sparkle with the "Let There Be Joy" design of an angel with arms uplifted welcoming the New Year. The remaining 960 triangles are the original "Let There Be Light" design of a stylized radiating sunburst. The 2,688 crystal triangles are bolted to 672 LED modules which are attached to the aluminum frame of the Ball. The Ball is illuminated by 32,256 Philips Luxeon Rebel LEDs (light emitting diodes). Each LED module contains 48 Philips LEDs - 12 red, 12 blue, 12 green, and 12 white for a total of 8,064 of each color. By mixing these four colors, the Ball is capable of creating a palette of more than 16 million vibrant colors and billions of patterns producing a spectacular kaleidoscope effect atop One Times Square.
