So....how do we get this started? I vote for Battlefield as it seems to be a great foundation. I'd like to go to the bookstore this weekend and buy it....is this what we have decided???? emoticon

After re-reading all of your posts, I have taken "Battlefield of the Mind" back off my bookshelf. It is well worth reading again. I do want to get a copy of "Power Thoughts'. Maybe we could do one of these titles?

The first book by JM I ever read was "Knowing God Intimately". Excellent read and it really introduced me to her writing.

All my JM titles are full of bookmarks and hi-liter. I guess any one of them would be good, but I still think that "Battlefield" is a good place to start. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Battlefield of the mind is awesome. I firmly believe that a persons mind needs to be healthy and in good health before any other area can be dealt with in the right way such as personal issues and weightloss. Our minds are crazy and run a lot of our lives. Important book.

I have the following JM books, but haven't read and/or finished all of them (terrible, I know):

* Battlefield of the Mind
* Power Thoughts
* Never Give Up
* 101 Ways to Simplify Your Life
* The Power of Simple Prayer
* Approval Addiction
* Start Your New Life Today
* How to Succeed At Being Yourself

I thought I had "How To Hear From God" or something like that. I have some of her cds, but I will have to go check what the titles are.

I hope for the next book, we will do Battlefield of the Mind or Power Thoughts.

emoticon I looked for the music on youtube but they didn't have the right one... back a few years ago there was a song called Jump in the River. We learned it at a pastors conference at Abba's House in Hixon, TN. The lyrics went something like this (I only wish you could hear it ~ way cool!)

I hear the prophet say,
just how much do you want?
Ankle deep or tell me
do you want to jump?
Jump, jump, jump in the river!
Jump, jump, jump in the river!
(Of course there's more but that's all I can remember right now.)

anyway here are my responses to JazzyDJ's post
Questions to ponder
1) What do you crave? peace in all my surroundings

2) When you crave something bad how can you turn that craving into something good and healthy? First, I must determine if it truly is bad or just a poor choice. Many times "bad" is what we say when its just too much of something in the food realm. That can also be said of other areas besides food. I mean to say "work" isn't necessarily bad but if we become a work-a-holic then that is the bad part. So we really have to identify what is "bad" for us. I know that food isn't bad in itself, but too much of it is. Once I identify that and understand what a portion is, then I can measure and weight to make it good and healthy for me.

3 How hi up the mountain are you? If your not as hi as you want what are you doing to get there? In this case, I can't look down or back. I must continue onward, upward and forward. If I get tired on the journey, I can rest a bit but I cannot stop or quit. There is no place for quitting on the side of a mountain. When I reach the summit of the mountain that I am currently climbing then I have to plan for, gather gear and begin my next mountain...

4) What were your steps to get to the peek and rest your head on Jesus’ heart? One step and a prayer at a time... when sometimes Jesus would pick me up and let me rest before putting me down and encouraging me to keep right on going. I'm here if you need me he says, but you must do the walking (climbing).

Thanks for the thought provoking entry, JazzyDJ...

Entry 3

Joyce Meyer
Knowing God Intimately
Intro part three

Exodus 33:14-
And the Lord said “My presence will go with you and I will give you rest.”

How many times do we feel over whelmed or alone in our day I know I do. James 1:5 says: But if anyone is deficient in wisdom he should ask God who gives to all generously and without reprimand and it will be given to him.

God wants us to ask him for our daily read. He wants to be apart of our lives. What I learned was there are four levels to getting to know God.
A. Ankle deep which is that they like to feel
their feet on solid ground
B. Waist deep
C. Over our head

(These definitions are paraphrased but how willing are we to get to know who God is? How willing are you to climb and how close to the heart of Jesus are you willing to lay your head. ?

In our lives, (especially if we are looking to eat right) there are a lot of things to crave and desire If we seek God and crave after him all great things will come to us.

Questions to ponder
1) What do you crave?

2) When you crave something bad how can you
turn that craving into something good and
healthy

3 How hi up the mountain are you? If your not
as hi as you want what are you doing to get
there?

4) What were your steps to get to the peek and
rest your head on Jesus’ heart?

My Answers

1 What do you crave?
Hmmm I crave salt once a month that salt has to
come from one specific source – mcd fries.

2) When you crave something bad how can you turn
that craving into something good and healthy.
I can do one of two things , one find
something to substuture like fruit to munch
on , or order a small fri and eat them slowly
and deliberately so I can taste it and enjoy
it.

3) How hi up the mountain are you?
About thigh high. If your not as hi as you
want what are you doing to get there? Keep
striving to reach the top with Gods help.

4 What were your steps to get to the peek and rest
your head on Jesus’ heart?
Remembering its not about me its about God

emoticon please keep posting and when you make your decision as to what book it will be ~I'll gladly read along and carry on posts with you.

Right now I'm still working on Joyce's Look Great, Feel Great and I've been doing a chapter a week. I have a blog family and generally there are about 40-50 who are reading each week. Not many post but those who do are really encouraging to me. They really help me to continue on another week! Isn't it interesting how most of us need that little encouragement to keep going. I wish I could say I didn't need it but I do. So those here who have keep me going ~ I know I couldn't have done it without you! Just thought I'd let you know.

Anyway counting this week's blog, I have six more to go... If anyone is interested I've posted the link... once I finish this week, I'll post it too. The topic is Mindful Eating~ I haven't read it yet, but sometime today is the plan.

Right now I'm heading to my grandbaby's 7th birthday party! God bless each of you in your journey today and this week. emoticon

I have read "Battlefield" and "How to hear from God', but it was ages ago. Both are very good. I would not mind revisiting these titles.

"Seven things that steal your joy" looks interesting as well.

When we are talking about God's glory and teachings there's no such thing as TOO MUMCH CHATTER. In fact we should be doing more of it and praising his name.

Goodness gracious but my mystical magical typing fingers got ahead of me and I clicked before I could respond to the questions....here goes...

1. AND 2. I think that God has missions for us all. He has for me, I know I resisted a lot along the way, but He is persistent...and I obeyed.

He has led me down many paths that have allowed me to work with adults and children. To help establish and participate in a series of home based bible studies promoted by our church. I loved doing this...especially working with the children.......

But, in HIS wisdom I was tired and needed rest.

Two years later, He led me to work within our church by writing prayer services to be used at meetings and at times the pastor might be away. ...and YES, I once again moved on as he led me to work as part of a team that helped our Town's Christian community come together for prayer events. Where your denomination does not matter, and the Pastors, ministers and priest all share in leading prayer and praise.

3. I wish I could say I followed his direction easily. But, it was hard for me to do. I really felt/feel inadequate to be of help to people in the ways I was being asked. He and I had lots of "talks" about this. And...seems like just as I was getting comfortable with his mission for me...he would all of a sudden start me down a different path.....so....what did I do.....

4. I prayed and prayed and prayed. I dug deep into His WORD....

He will lead you as to when and what mission he has for you...and if you listen you will know when he says you can rest!

Sorry, I do tend to chatter too much. It's something I need to work on. But,one more thing... I do want to thank Deb for organizing this discussion group.

Angelbeliever, I love the sound of a sax, i think thats my favorite instrament. There are times God does ask us to do something we actually have fun doing as well. I know teaching children to read when i was in 7th grade as a teachers aide was amazing.

I loved it when I was a hospice volunteer , in fact I like being a volunteer period. It brings joy to me as well as makes whom ever I help peace, comfort and a shoulder if needed.

Questions....

1. Have you been called by God , led by Him to do something? Yes, I have been called by God. Years ago he had me working in a psychiatric hospital with addictions and women with mood disorders. I worked there for 19 years. I led group therapy sessions and taught families about addiction. I worked in a co-dependency program. I attended 12 step meetings with the patients. I really enjoyed my work. Then I was burned out and hat to leave that profession. I know I made a difference in may lives. That made it all worth while.

God had also called me for a period of time to do music ministry. I did that for many years. I played alto and soprano saxophone in many churches and then DH and I put a show together that I put on in many places. It was a lot of fun. I was known as the Gospel Sax Lady. I did this until 6 years ago when my asthma and breathing would no longer allow me to have enough air to play. It's time for someone else now.

Today God has called me to be a leader and serve as an Elder in my church. I also sing in the choir. I have listened to his call and I also believe my ministry now is to be an encourager to others. I try to do this both here on Spark and out in the world as well.

2. What was your response? As you can see, I listened to God. I will continue to listen to him.

3. Have you been in the middle of doing something and wondered if what you were doing Is what God wants you to do? Yes, that has happened. At times I had to change what I was doing or trying to do. When it's not of God it doesn't go smoothly.

4. How do find the answer to question 3? I have to keep praying and reading his Word to find that answer.

Elayne from the west coast of Fl.

"Music is the original mood-altering, non-fattening wonder drug. Ask your doctor if Music is right for you."

Playing my sax is how I connect with God. That gift is from God and I use it to Glorify His name. It's not bout me..it's all about HIM.

emoticon Yes, God does speak to us as we go about our lives. He has allowed me to be purposeful in different areas throughout my life and I believe those were exactly the places I was meant to be at a time.

Once I thought that if God planted me in a certain spot then that is where I was to stay forever. I don't believe that anymore. It seemed that he kept in in the children's ministry the longest and when it was time for me to move on, I resisted.

But my season changed and it was as simple as that. I had learned many things and God wanted me to share and teach adults. I didn't quite get it at first. There was a short time that I helped with the student ministry for high school to college age, but that wasn't it. But the time spent there was a stepping stone for me.

God has most recently had me to work with "damaged women". By that I mean women who have been hurt either physically or mentally by an abusive spouse. Some have miscarried precious babies. Some are raising children on their own. There is a need for more ministering angels to help these dear ladies. I believe God has brought me through many things in my life that I might be of help to others so my purpose has changed over the years.

So as long as I have a breath in my body, I know he wants to continue to use me so my purpose won't be over until this life on earth is over... but then... I just imagine we'll have another purpose all together. What a thought! emoticon

Knowing God Intimately
Intro part two

Isaiah 30:21 “Whether you turn to the right or to the left your ears will hear a voice behind you saying “This is the way; walk in it.”

By nature and our human-ness, we limit ourselves, which sometimes means we project limits on God. I think there is so much we can offer if we just open our hearts and minds and listen to God.

Have you ever wondered what purpose God has for you in his Great Plan? And, then when you think about it your answer is that you see nothing of worth that God could possibly use? Then when you do something you wonder if it’s the right thing? So many of us have , but our verse today gives us an answer to that. You will know if you are on the right path- scripture says you will.

Now here are some questions to ponder and share…

Questions....

1. Have you been called by God , led by Him to do something?

2. What was your response?

3. Have you been in the middle of doing something and wondered if what you were doing Is what God wants you to do?

4. How do find the answer to question 3?

Here are my answers

1) have been led in the area of teaching others Gods word and topics He wishes me to learn or walk threw myself as a personal account which is followed by scripture. Quite a few of His teachings to me have been quite eye opening and mind blowing.

2 at first my response was what do I have that others could learn from we are all in the same boat here. They are just ahead of me in the game. But there are times like now when I am using a power chair to get from places, instead of grumbling about the streets and side walks I have to traverse as all those in chairs do , I am making note of them and might be bringing them to the attention of city officials or who ever . I am using my “disability again to help improve things not feel sorry for myself.

3 Ive been in the middle of things and find myself asking “is this what Jesus would do.?”

4 look in his word.

I agree with Monicat. I too have enjoyed reading the posts given. I enjoy Joyce and her books, but do not have the one Deb is sharing. I also have lots of reading to catch up on.

I am an early riser....through watching her show...and using her devotionals I have kind of got myself a morning routine. I usually just start with a little Good morning God and thank him for giving me another day. By rising early I can give myself a little time to sit and read my Morning devotional.. ( my favorite is "Starting Your Day off Right" and I end the day with "Ending your Day Right".) I miss it if I don't get a chance to do that. It gives me thoughts for my day. Helps me get started. Guess that leads into the questions.....

I kind of have a running dialogue with God throughout the day. Sometimes I bet he wishes I were not as chatty as I can be. LOL I like knowing I have an open line to him. It helps me face daily ups and downs. When I don't do this....which happens if I let "BUSY-NESS" overtake me....I know I am off target cause I can just feel it.

Guess I am a chatterbox here too....LOL....SEE what GOd has to contend with? TEE HEE HEE Sorry for rambling on and on.

emoticon Joyce's books that I have but haven't read fully yet are: Reduce Me to Love, Eat & Stay Thin, and Be Your Best. I took a workshop on Battlefield of the Mind but haven't actually read it entirely. I've been working on Look Great, Feel Great for a good while. Although anyone can read it in a zip, I wanted to use it differently. I'm generally giving myself a full week to focus on and make the changes that she suggests before reading her next chapter. I find that when I do this, it no longer becomes just another book but a tool in my weapons supply to fight the enemy whether it be my flesh or whatever. I was just looking and I have 7 more topics to devote myself to in just that book alone. I have FB and like viewing her quick video snipits there. Since my commute is so long, I'm thinking of asking for any of her CD albums for Christmas. She has quite a few sets on her website. You can get single messages or sets. Anyway, I've got to go to bed now. Crazy me for being up so late. I slept a little while and then wide awake. Oh me... catch you later...

monicat what other joyce meyer book do you have? I have even listened to her sermons on youtube and collect page after page of notes.

I know the feeling of getting out of bed and having a cup of coffee before really talking with God, I will usually say a quick thank you for another day Lord. Then as i go from here to where ever I will be talking to God about people or events or even sing hymns in my head. Before I know it I'm at my destination

emoticon I've enjoyed reading the posts here and I don't have that book yet but eventually will. I need to finish reading the other Joyce books before I get another one! LOL As far as your question. I've built in several morning habits to help me focus on God during the work week. Sometimes I manage to pray a short prayer before getting out of bed, but usually it's after I've been up about 30 minutes. I'm very slow to come fully awake. When I'm getting dressed, I listen to worship music so it's spinning in and around me. AFter I'm dressed and fix a quick breakfast bite, I sit at the computer and try to leave a devotional verse on my FB page before I leave for work. As I go out the door I ask God to protect and bless my family and help me in my walk. Since my commute is so long~ many times I begin in prayer, and then I'll listen to teaching sermons *either recorded or radio on my way to work. I've found when I don't do these morning devotional routines, my day starts off empty.

I bring God along and then I give hem time off or a break. I think I can do it alone and I cannot. Looking back on my life I have found when i don't ask for him to come long I fail miserably.

Playing my sax is how I connect with God. That gift is from God and I use it to Glorify His name. It's not bout me..it's all about HIM.

Your welcome, I am also guilty of asking God to glide me as well. Not that I have put God to the t est, but i have observed that when i do things , my way, things fall flat but when Gods in control, things go more smoothly.

I actually got this book from books a million, ( think it was on their clearance/ sale table)

I know I've always had a desire to know God more intimately, but I fall down on putting in the work. As you said I get tired, or hurried, or..., or..., or..., and it seems to be the first thing that slides, when it should be the last. It's something I definitely need to work on.

I've heard that Pilot/Co-pilot analogy before. And I'm guilty. I ask God to GUIDE me, when I NEED Him to LEAD me.

I need to get this book.

Thank you for initiating this, DJ.

HI, I'm DJ and - I am reading an awesome book by Joyce called "Knowing God Intimately". Have any of you read it?

How many of us long to know God better and more intimately? I know I do but there are days life gets so busy with day to day activities I fall into bed at the end of the day exhausted and briefly thanking God for getting us thru another day. I am working on changing that by immersing myself not only in His Word but also by the book Knowing God Intimately. And I want to share with you what I am learning and would love to hear your thoughts on the questions posted .

God is a vital Necessity in our lives. With so much Chaos and uncertainty, We need the presence of God just to get us from one place to another. And get there Safely. I know I need god traveling with me from the moment I walk (roll) out my door to the time, I get back home. You never know who you will meet along your journey.

Sometimes we bring God along as Co pilot when He should be Lead pilot with us as co pilot.

Scripture
Exodus 33:14 Says: “My Presence shall go with you and I will give you rest.”

God is our power source He gives us energy to do anything and everything We just have to ask ...He’s waiting.

Questions .... Where do you see your need for Jesus to travel with you.

Do you talk to God while you go from point A to point B?

Do you pray for those you meet along the way or ask God to be with specific people you might meet?
