Since I started to eat better and exercise I seem to have much less pain.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Finally my new neurologist asked if I was allgeric to sulfa drugs, I am not.
He prescibed me Zonigram. It did the trick for the pain, my headaches, and sleep. I take 300 mg with supper instead of bedtime cause it takes my body a little longer to process. I had never heard of this drug.

This along with the Skelaxin 800 mg 3x day with 600 mg Tramadol daily from Rheumatologist I can now have some form of life, now if I could just find someone to clean my house!

I've been on skelaxin, naproxin 500, naproxin 550, now Dr has me on gabapentin, doesn't always work. A friend takes 900 mg ibrubrophen I take that @ night to sleep. I just put up with the pain during the day. Everything makes me so drowsy.

Watch out world! Here I come

I can't take Lyrica or Cymbalta due to side effects. I take Tramadol 100 mg three times a day along with Skelaxin 800 mg three times a day. Takes the edge off except during flare ups due to overdoing it or the weather.

Update above.

Yes I have tried most of the drugs the other have talked about for several months...... now on Lyrica at 75mg three times a day .... Works great....... still have a feeling like there not my feet completely but the sunburn pain... the prickles, the stabbing pain,, sharp as a knife is gone...really gone......People if you still are not satisfied with your pain management ...ask your doctor for Lyrica...... my health insurance company made me go thru alot of different drugs...( basically they are cheaper drugs...) Lyrica is a brand name and can be alittle more expensive.....But it works for me and It might better work for you....... Thats all I am saying.... but if the medication that you are taking is doing a satisfying job....Thats great.... Its so hard do deal with pain everyday......

I am on pain management therapy with 2400 mg of Gabapentin I take 1200 in morning and 1200 at night. I also take a muscle relaxer called Tizanidine 8mg in morning and 8mg at night. It has helped make the pain bearable. I have to take them together or it doesn't work which is strange.

This was found out accidently with an injury I suffered while at work and it is helping with the hand injury along with the neuropathy that I have had for 16 years. I have no idea on the cost of the medication as workman comp insurance covers it 100%.

I went to the podiatrist today for a routine checkup and trimming of my toenails. He prescribed Metanx for me at least 10 years ago. The MedWorld Pharmacy I had my prescriptions filled at said some months back that they weren't making Metanx anymore. They substituted Foltanx. Today I learn that Foltanx is half the dosage of Metanx yet they are charging $100 a month for a 30 day supply. No wonder I have been having pain and tingling in my feet, legs, etc. The doctor told me Brand Direct Health Pharmacy received Metanx directly from the manufacture. He sent an escript to them for me. I can pay by credit card for the 3 month supply and it will cost me only $144.00. You could also pay in three month payments if desired. Check with them about the details. The number is 866-331-6440. They are located in Louisiana. Hope this helps someone.

Wish I new more about it. It is just what the Dr. Diagnosed the swelling in the areas that the neuropathy is as. To me it sounds a lot like peripheral edema?

Now that the weather is warmer, I agree with the cold ceramic tile. If my foot gets too cold though it makes the pain even worse. I have tried most medications and they either do not work or I experience horrible side effects. Small doses of exercise work at times. In the last month my pain has gotten worse. I did get some good news recently; where my nerve was injured it is showing signs of healing. Recently I have been experiencing a lot of swelling in the left lower leg and foot. I would be interested in knowing more about neuropic edema.

I have had PN for some years now. On May 31st I was diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy also. The doctor gave me gabapentin to take and eleven days later I developed an allergy to it. The other medication of first choice is Lyrica. I am allergic to that also. I was taking it for fibromyalgia. Is there anyone who has experience with sfn? What types of medications and/or supplements are you taking? How has it progressed in your case? Thanks.

We understand the burning and pain. I actually thought mine was just sore tired feel at first. I tried lotion. It didn't help me any.
It doesn't help that I have bouts of neuropic edema.

I get the burning and some stabbing pains mostly at night. I use a compounded lotion (Topricin) to which I add a few drops of peppermint oil. It really helps the burning and the pain enough so that I can get to sleep.

I feel much better during the day when I'm walking around. The only shoes that help are Birkenstock sandals with the toe hold. I even wear them when I do the treadmill because it seems I have more control with my big toe.

Trust me when I tell you I do the treadmill very slowly 5 days a week for a half hour so my feet don't turn to stone. It's the weirdest feeling to wake in the night, and still feel as though I have my sandals on. I try to explain it to others, but they just don't get it. Most think it's just sore feet.

I guess if we freeze those pesky nerves they quit hollering at us so loud emoticon
Only problem for me is, if I keep them cold too long they go to sleep.

When my DH Had it so bad, he would soak his feet in an ice bath. Standing on a cold tile floor feels good as well.

That doesn't work for me. Raising my feet seems to make mine tingle/ burn worse. If it is on the bottom of my feet, I go stand in a room with ceramic tile floor, where it is cooler. Or cold wet clothes wraspped loosely around them helps some. Socks and shoes drive me batty!!!

Some times, just sitting with my feet elevated is the best way to calm the throbbing.

Here is a thread to share what you have tried/ are using to manage the pain. And to share what has been tried and didn't work.
