I am on a journey to increase the number of steps I take each day, My doctor recommends a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. That's pretty close to 5 miles. I read a sparkpeople article that said many people take about 5,000 steps a day. The article recommended 10,000 steps a day to be healthy, and 12,000 - 14,000 steps a day for weight loss.

Up through May, I think I was around 4000 - 5000 steps a day. In June, I increased my walking, and I logged my daily steps. I took 200,000 steps in June, or 6667 steps per day. I set a modest goal to increase to 7667 steps a day in July, The more I walked, the better I felt, and I have logged just over 310,000 steps in July, or 10,000 steps a day.

My August goal is 12,000 steps a day. That's an extra 15 minutes or so of walking each day.
