If you are on Facebook, check out Silver Sneakers. They are doing exercise classes online. I did one today and it was a great full body workout. could do at your own pace and even do sitting if standing was too much.

Just go to Facebook and search for Silver Sneakers.

Trying to make the transition from Pulmonary Clinic to local Gym. My wife is joining the Gym with me on our Silver Sneakers program. Fortunately the Silver Sneakers pays for all of it, so we were able to spend an hour with their trainers to be able to find our way around the Gym. We chose Anytime Fitness, because there are 3 of them within 10 miles of our home and after a month we can go to any of their Gyms with the keys we got, even if it is in another state 24/7. They are also smaller and quieter than most Gyms around here, so it makes dragging around my O2 tank easier without getting tangled up with some one,. My last exit visit at the Pulmonary Clinic is Tuesday... I will miss them, they have taught me a lot, but it is a 40mile round trip twice a week since January and costs 30dollars per week copay, so it has been very expensive.

Thanks! Quality of life is so much better now than it was only a few months ago. It has been hard for me to keep emotion out of it and try to be more analytical and methodical in my long term approach. Using Spark to keep goals, victories detailed log of all exercise and nutrition,.

That is fantastic. So much progress and you did it with exercise. I always recommend pulmonary rehab to anyone that asks. I think it made all the difference in my health and showed me how much exercise should be a part of our lives. Many people feel they just can't exercise because of their health issues but if they talk with their doctor and get an OK to exercise they will find they feel so much better. I just got an OK from the community center here to do the treadmill and exercise bike with my 2 liter of oxygen. Start tomorrow! Congratulations to you and keep up the good work. Gonna check out the resistant tubes and DVD. I have some bands that I got from Walmart but just had a piece of paper with some instructions inside the box.

This seems like a good place to share fitness from O to now 5 months later. Always had severe asthma, from birth. COPD by 40's and had lung abcess removed from right lower lung, then in Nov. 2014, for some unknown reason my left lung totally collapsed at 2:00 am ... unconscious for 2 weeks in icu, got out of hospital in Dec 2014. My wife had to take me into the bathroom in a wheel chair. To get back in bed she helped me get my legs up on the bed. A few weeks later was finally able to use walker to get around the house by myself. Bought these,

and still use them all the time. Spark has great suggestions on how to use them even if you can't stand. Pulmonologist put me in the COPD clinic twice a week in January. Started on bicycle for 6 minutes per session with 2L O2.. I thought I was going to die going this long, back then.. lol, but by March I bought this:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Stamina-Air-Re
sistance-Exercise-Bike/24098100
and a couple of dumbbells so I could copy the clinic workout at home on saturdays, making three times of 1.5 hours per week. Sooo much better now with my breathing, Spark has been almost all of my workout and nutrition help. Still learning everyday and being encouraged by all of you and the stories I read here.

Excellent article. Thank you. I just completed 700 workouts at Curves. I started there in Jan. of 2009. There are times I get slowed down due to my COPD, but I do feel better exercising. emoticon

I just tried the Qi Gong Fire and Water spark video. I loved it. Anyone can do this yoga routine. Anyone. You don't have to get down on the floor. You remain standing on both legs the whole time and if you are in a wheelchair you can still do it. Check it out. Don't forget to click the buttons it put this exercise on your fitness tracker and also remember to click for your Spark points.

I walk on my treadmill and do strength training at home. I also have an exercise bike. I try to get out and walk and if the weather's cold I'll go to the mall. I believe that is the best exercise to do if you have COPD. I am able to use my walker less often.

I'm hoping to be able to join a gym just to change it up a bit and cut back on pulmonary rehab.

DH is having so much leg pain. Has decided to resume some back exercises from years back and also went on short walk...I am going to approach him about this becoming a joint effort...I think it would help me to have a buddy in an exercise program and we live too far out in the country to go into a group anything....will let you know if we progress past the talking phase.

I belong to Curves and I go three times a week. I just completed my 600th workout in 3 years. But I've been sick since the Sat. before Thanksgiving and haven't been there. I do miss it. I do have more energy on the days that I do go. A friend and I go Mon, Wed, and Fri. and go for coffee afterward.

Let us know what you do on a regular basis to stay or become fit...Do you wear a pedometer? If so...what brand do you recommend. Do you belong to Curves or a fitness center?

I am very lax in this area. Belong to our local fitness center but rarely make the time to go. Even the walking has been slack....need to get back on track..Let's keep one another motivated!
