Thank you for the kind thoughts, Lou.

Yes, I'm gathering some YouTube videos (did you know there are even yoga chair exercises?) and looking through SP for ideas.

But I am one miserable ol' lady just now... emoticon

emoticon about your foot, Kasey. Hope you recover quickly.

Have you checked on site for chair exercises videos? I've seen several that require sitting without pressure on our feet. Maybe they will help.

Feel better. emoticon

These days I'm searching for some really good chair exercises - broke my foot, had to have surgery for a repair, and today I get a cast on it.

You know what Gilda Radner said... emoticon

Stuck in your chair all day? Try these exercises to help relieve tension.

Windshield wiper --

Stand up. Gently tilt the top of your head left toward your shoulder. Move it back to center. Do the same on the right side. As you move your head left to right you should make a motion that resembles a windshield wiper. Repeat five times.

Leg lifts --

Hold on to the back of your chair or another similarly tall object, like a couch. Lift one leg directly backward, keeping the knees in both legs straight. Return leg. Repeat with other leg.

Back scratcher --

Stand up. Reach one arm back so that your hand is resting squarely on your back, like if you were to scratch it. Use your other hand to grab the elbow of the first arm. This should mean one of your elbows is pointed directly up and your other elbow is pointed to the side. Gently pull your upwards elbow with your opposite hand. Count to five. Repeat with your other arm.

Overhead stretch --

Reach up. Interlace your fingers. Position your palms toward the ceiling. Push up and slightly back. Count to five. Repeat.

Exercises courtesy of the Duke Occupational & Environmental Safety Office.

You wear clothes when you work from home Fit? emoticon

I also work from home and find it is too easy to get absorbed with the computer and not stand or stretch as often as needed. usually my legs and back will begin to hurt after 15 minutes or so and that is when I get up.

But, sometimes I work past that pain to keep focus on what I'm working on. When I do that, I regret it and it takes longer to move around and relieve the pain for a while.

Lesson learned? Getting up and moving every 15 minutes works for me. emoticon

You know the other day there was the post about breaking up the 10-minutes-per-hour into two increments, 5 minutes for every half hour? Well, if you take half of this little workout, it might be adaptable for such a plan...

This SparkPeople article:

said this about too much sitting:

"Sitting All Day

It's no secret that a sedentary lifestyle is not good for you, but spending the majority of your days on your tush could be worse than you realize. It's so bad for you, in fact, that it's been linked to all sorts of things you probably will want to—wait for it—sit down to hear about. A 2015 study discovered that sitting all day at work, watching TV all night and spending a good amount of time in the car can all lead to cancer, heart disease and even death. The researchers of this same study agree that not being active can put you at more of a risk for death than being obese.

Make the Change:

Get moving! Not only is physical activity great for you for many reasons, even just a moderate amount of activity was shown to slow the risk of death. In fact, a recent article published in The Lancet found that an hour of moderate physical activity was needed to combat the increased risks associate with sitting all day. If you're unsure where to start, work to incorporate even a few minutes of physical activity daily, and slowly increasing the amount of time you move and exercise as you feel stronger.

Other ways to get moving include spending part of your day standing at your desk, walking to work, standing while talking on the phone or eating lunch, walking and talking with co-workers instead of sitting in a conference room or working out during your lunch hour. If you find yourself with zero motivation, see if one of these ideas will give you a boost."

Thanks for this thread. It has a lot of important information for those of us who sit at a desk for work.

This last link was really helpful for me. Thanks! Even though they're taught with her standing up I've started doing these at my desk as I read emails, etc. and I can feel the difference after doing them.

Every hour or so I do the downward facing dog yoga pose and hold it until I feel my spine stretch, relax and sometimes crackle into a relaxed state. Then I stand again and just twist right and left letting my arms freely slap against my body for a while. This is something I learned in Tai Chi but I forget what it's called. They said that the slap on the lower back was rejuvenating and that the twisting was suppose to detox organs and get blood moving. These two are almost as effective as a cup of coffee and only takes a few minutes.

Today I submitted 3 articles. I am tired even though I sat on my butt typing away. I wanted to do a Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds workout tonight. However, I am tired. My timer won't work for 10 minute breaks either. Totally annoying. I returned my new pedometer. The devil is NOT going to win this battle.

I like the reminder to walk about for five minutes. For me, if I sit too long my back and right leg begin to cramp.

Anyone else getting their five minutes in?

I have a kitchen timer that I will start using as my writing and activity assistant! I think I need a new pedometer though as it is not tracking my steps accurately. I could walk non-stop all day and night and it would not even record a mile. emoticon uuugh
