Ruth, sounds like a nice variety of fitness activities. My former neighbor had a large yard and was an avid gardener. She is 10 years older than me and super fit. Mostly, she just worked in the garden and hauled wheelbarrows of mulch material up and down the street.

In the winter I walk the mall with friends and go to the gym for recumbent bicycle and yoga. I also do yoga and stretches to exercise videos I find on Spark and You Tube, Because of the recent stem cell injections in my knees to repair the cartilage I am not skiing this winter. Hope to be back on the slopes next year.

In nice weather I walk outdoors, garden (it takes up hours and hours each week) and swim in the summer.

I'm so jealous, Dennis. I love to golf. Still working so it's weekends only or on vacation and the weather doesn't always adjust itself to my personal requests.

I golf......ÖÖ.. three days a week no matter the season. That is what is so nice about retiring in Tucson. I recently started to work with light free weights to improve my arm and shoulder strength. I exercise with the dumb bells four times a week, about 20 min. each session.

No, I walk on the treadmill or outside. Thankfully I have a treadmill in my house. I am in Texas so the weather this time of year is perfect.

1/8 - do you have a different fitness / exercise routine in the winter? Do you move indoors and what is your exercise of choice? Most of my exercise comes from golf. We can golf all year, but less in the winter. Expecting 1-3 inches of snow Saturday. I'll be on the cumbent exercise bike.

It's amazing how often an idea for question of the week comes to me from SP. Looking at new comments on a recent blog I wrote, I decided to scroll through my blogs. For as many years as I've been associated with SP, you'd think I'd have a zillion blogs. Still, I was surprised that there were 3 pages worth. Looking at them I reminded myself of the cute kitten meme, "I I kinda want you to pet me, but I kinda want to bite you." I wanted to read them, but I was afraid of what I might see. Did I pledge commitment to something that I no longer do / believe? Did I sound pompous, silly? Worse, horrors, did I use bad grammar or make typos? (DH spent 35 years in the newspaper business...I live with a grammar Nazi. LOL) Or, best of all, was I inspired by my thoughts all over again? I never write a blog for anyone. It's like journaling for me. It's a way to get my thoughts and feelings on record. Not old school like on paper, but an electronic journal or diary, if you will. It makes me feel vulnerable, yet liberated.

So, enough preamble. Here's the question, it's multi-part - Do you ever reread blogs you've written? How do they make you feel?

Happy New Year.

Love the vision board idea, Kathryn. Mine is very special to me. I have it on a bulletin board in the "gym" (small bedroom converted) where our exercise bikes are in a front of a TV. I can see the board while I exercise. It's not static. I add new quotes or pictures from time-to-time. I like your idea of putting your goals in a vision board on the fridge.

Sounds like you really have your hands full, Linda. So, on the elimination diet, do you give up a designated food to see if that's what is causing inflammation? My doctor has me on a special turmeric compound and purified fish oil for inflammation. Can't say I've noticed any improvement, but I'm going to finish the trial period. She said give it 120 days.

Good and bad. We are going back and forth to the inherited house getting it ready for an estate sale. So much stuff! Now that in-laws are gone I don't like being in the house. Too many bad things happened before their deaths. Dh got will probated, etc. gave MIL's car away and I had to go pick him up. This is a two hour drive one way. I decided to do an elimination diet for inflammation, so am giving up potatoes and tomatoes, which is hard.

Very neutral week. Two big social events and two cultural outings. Exercise is helping relieve a lot of the arthritic pain, so that is a big positive.

Sounds like we've had good, bad and, at least, close to ugly. LOL For those who had a great week, I'm happy for your blessing. For those who had a tough one, there's a new week around the corner. Hopefully, it's a better one for you.

My week was good but exhausting. I was on the move every morning (early) and it went into the afternoon. Definitely wore down the tires zipping on the freeway.

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

One day I won't be able to do this, but today is not that day

What a week. It tried to kill me. So, here's your late, and possibly lame, question of the week -

How was YOUR week? Call it out, whether it was good, bad, ugly or all three.

I still work fulltime and not because I want to, but I am blessed to have a job I like. However, weeks like this one has been are really challenging. So, that's the good AND bad. I can go on and maybe recall an "ugly," but let's hear about your week.

We have doing KETO since Dec 26, 2018....., kinda a ďdirty ď keto since We donít actually track macros which seems to be the fad now But i have learned i have to keep up the fat and protein or i don't lose.

But aiming for 20 or less carbs each day, I am 28 pounds down from this time last year. And hovering about 3 pounds below goal weight that my doctor set for me years ago. Planning to maintain the holidays, I am at it again after the new year to see where my body wants to be on the scale... lower.

I'm not sure it's an actual plan, other than it's predominately whole foods based. I don't add salt when I cook, avoid added sugars, and do choose foods for the nutrients they offer. No highly processed foods in the pantry.

For me it is simple.... self control. There are triggers that help derail the train, but it is pretty basic, a hunger twitch is felt and water, veggies, fruit, or other healthy treats do not address my need.... it seems that only carbs work.

12/5/2019 Question of the week

What type of food plan do you follow for weight loss or maintenance? Examples - low calorie, KETO, diabetic, clean eating, etc.

Mine is intuitive eating. See my blog for more details.

I know what you mean JOANNS4. I've never had a huge problem with desserts - or sweets of any kind, but now I have to be careful, especially if stressed. I'm not very good at limiting myself. One piece begets another and another until I've emptied whatever it is. So, I try not to keep any cookies, candy or pastries on hand. DH is working with a nutritionist and done very well so far. Trying not to be a stumbling block for him has helped me, at least at home. I don't want to have anything at home that tempts him.

That's a good one, too, Carol. I'm definitely bored when I'm hurting and don't want to do anything. Bored's evil twin sister is pain. I know many people who say they can't eat when they are sick or hurting. That's when I want to eat - takes my mind off my feel bad and I have a mini euphoria for a flash until the food fix wears off and what triggered it in the first place is intruding again. The only time that isn't true is if my illness is stomach related.

What's your biggest trigger for overeating? I try to use a modification of a known acronym HALT. Am I really hungry or angry, lonely or tired. My modification is HALTS(s) - Am I really hungry or angry, lonely, tired, sick or stressed. Wish I could figure out how to squeeze a B in there because boredom is my biggest trigger.

Not boredom like I have nothing to do, but boredom like I'm not motivated to do anything.

What's yours?

We always decorate a Christmas tree that we have had for years when we are in Calif. The church is only a block away from our old house here and we always walk to Christmas Eve service. I love to see all the decorations in our neighborhood and enjoy the Christmas music on the radio. We see our children and grands, great grands but not on Christmas day, sometime during the holiday season.

I love Christmas. However, we stopped giving gifts. The reason is that one year everyone gave each other cash or gift cards and we were simply exchanging money. Now we just pick Angel Tree kids to give to.

Dh and my gift to each other is something for the house. I just ordered a Vitamix, so that will be my Christmas this year. Dh is a cop and wants a new gun, so that will be his. Everything else we purchase as needed.

DW, is a big lover of Christmas; she literally works very hard at finding just the right gift for the kids and grandkids.... all throughout the year... most of it on line or at the Big Value stores like Kohls or Bed Bath and Beyond, using coupons and special sales to keep our gift costs low. Some she picks up at flea markets or garage sales. The gifts are usually quite small, especially now that we find ourselves shipping the presents to Michigan, or if a loved one is here with us for Christmas, the gift will easily fit into their luggage or carry on.

I don't personally celebrate the Christian holiday but I do participate in some of the secular events, such as attending choral and musical concerts, teas and parties. It is an excellent excuse to donate to worthwhile charities that help people who truly need a helping hand, or organizations doing medical research as well as local associations that provide services and .preserve or beautify our surroundings.

I have had some good times in the past but I think over here Christmas is for children to enjoy.

Most of my friends think it is a good time to drink themselves to death

I stopped enjoying Christmas while in my teens (50 years ago) because it was being too commercialized and too much pressure on giving even when people canít afford it to people who donít need anything.

I love the reason for the season, and have many wonderful childhood memories.... every time i smell fresh oranges or see a bowl of mixed nuts, it takes me back....

I don't like Christmas. I have no special memories and it's a stress to get through.
