One of the questions that I asked the nurse was if I needed to start drinking milkshakes a week before the surgery, and she said yes. I didn't though. There were some meds that I had to leave off because of bleeding.
I'm anxious to have my first milkshake in a long time. There are not too many places around here that have real milkshakes, but I should have started sampling the places that do serve them.
One of our neighbors borrowed our battery charger to get his truck started, and he's still working on it. I feel so sorry for him. My husband is not here, and I'm leaving soon. It's cold out there.
Maybe the sun will come out soon.

Kay, my hubby had dental surgery a couple of weeks ago and he drank Glucerna shakes for a couple of days. They are like Ensure, but they are for diabetics and have some kind of different carb load, I don't really understand it. In any case, he was very glad when he was able to chew and eat real food again.

Good Luck Kay! I had some dental surgery at the end of September and I had to eat somewhat like this! Since I felt a sugar overload it was easy to forget these foods on the 4th day! (I have never been a sugar eater!)

It is cool here too but it has come up 14 degrees in the last 2.5 hours as the sun is shining I think that we only have 1 more day of this cool weather then we go more "normal" and that is much warmer (not hot)!

Jean, at least your doctors are working together with a plan for you. As long as you stay updated with me and your side effects, things will hopefully go smoothly. As least you know now what is ahead of you. You are in my prayers.

Naomi, I'm glad that you don't have OT anymore, but can do the exercises at home. It's good to see chatting with us.

Going to run errands this morning, and then lunch/Bible Study. Tonight I keep foster kids.
Tomorrow morning I have dental surgery early. I am supposed to eat breakfast 2 hours ahead of time and start on my antibiotic. I have 2 pain pills and a "Magic Mouthwash."
In the past few years, I've had root canals, crowns, etc, but not dental surgery.
My list of instructions includes a diet which doesn't match Spark. I am supposed to drink MILKSHAKES. Since I can't eat much, that will give me nourishment. Also we have stocked up on puddings, applesauce, macaroni/cheese, pasta, etc. He said ice cream, but I didn't buy any. I may get some frozen yogurt. Of course, I have to eat food when I take my pills.
Stay warm. It's cold here, but I know many of my Spark Friends are really have winter weather.

My name is Kay, and I live in Northwest Georgia.

The results of the CT scan are in:

Update:

GOOD NEWS:

The Dr is going to try a different chemo drug...Beginning next Tuesday I will do Taxotere followed by Neulasta on Wednesday. Taxotere is a very strong treatment expected to take me down so I will have one round and then CT scan 11/26 and what happens next will be determined. I will get to cook for my family on Thanksgiving! (At least John will and I will do what I can!!!) If this regime works it will be 1 treatment followed by belly shot next day every 3 weeks as long as it works and I can handle it!

It will be my decision how long to keep trying! There are also other treatments out there to try and slow these cells down if this doesn't work! So I advised him that I was not ready to give up or give in!!!! John agreed!

I also got my new glasses yesterday! It was getting very hard to work on the computer and I really like them...just call me Sophie Loren (not Sophia)!

BAD NEWS:

The C is rapidly spreading and cells have really grown in size also. It is now in my adrenal glands, my liver, both lungs, and lymph nodes, spine, pelvis and arms and legs! (I think that I have just described my whole body). The Dr. gave me pain pills which I did not even know I needed!

Now that we know what I am facing! I had my pity party yesterday...and low and behold I actually slept 9 straight hours last night and feel the best I have felt this AM in a long long time!

Jean

Pat, it's good to hear from you today. We have all had crazy weather. I have a feeling we will have a cold winter. Some of you already are having that now with snow.
Our mornings are cold, but it warmed up some today. Book club is tonight, so maybe the weather will be alright.
Today I had lunch with a friend. I had 3 vegetables and a piece of cornbread. For dinner, I just had a vanilla pudding.

Ruth, you are going to be busy the next few days. Maybe you will have luck with the books.

On my way out the door last month I learned that the suitcase was more than 50 lbs, so I had to delete some things, shoes and books. I finished all the books I brought and am looking for something to read. I will check with the hotels to see if they have an English library exchange, leave one, take one. That's always a good source of books.

In Costa Rica there was a book exchange at the gringo bakery/coffee house. In Ecuador and Peru I brought my own books and left them there. In Guatemala there was a book exchange but you had to pay. I suppose I should be able to read books on or off line, but I haven't found how to do this yet. You techies, tell me what sights to go to and if the books are safe to download!

Doing laundry in the rain today...wringer washer is outside, so it's a wet trip out the door and to the cubbyhole that is the "laundry room. Despite the rain that should cool things off, my clothes are still sticking to my body, must be the humidity. We never appreciate what we have until we are without it. I should be on my knees to first world technology every night.

Good morning everyone. 6 weeks from today is Christmas, and 2 weeks from tomorrow is Thanksgiving. The time is already pressing down on me. So much to do, and so much depends on people telling me what they want for Christmas. If I saw them every day, I'd know, but even though they are relatively nearby, I don't see them enough to know.

Kay, my house is never all clean at the same time. I wish. I have never paid someone to do my housework, even when I was working and the kids were home. I'm afraid that if I get someone to do it "just once", I'll be hooked like heroin. And it IS exercise. Just ask anyone who does it for a living.

My brand new cell phone was totally discharged this morning. The charge has lasted for over 24 hours in the past, but it went from 80% when I went to bed to dead this morning. My computer had a problem last night, too. They must be connected but I have no idea how.

I have to prepare for our condo meeting tomorrow night, a stomach acid inducing proposition under the best of conditions.

Good morning,

I hope everyone is doing well. Sounds like people are busy. I am fighting a plateau right now and it is very discouraging but I just keep trying. I have started Tole painting again and I am selling some of my items. It feels good that people like what I paint and a little money is nice, too!

I live in Colorado and the weather is so crazy. It is going to be almost 70 today (I like that). We haven't had much snow yet but I know it is coming!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, too!

Naomi - glad to hear you are getting out for more than doctor appt.s and PT. What are you reading? I just started the new Alexander McCall No1 Ladies Detective novel on my kindle.

Kay - I think all of your days sound busy to me - I don't think my house has ever been all clean at once except when I hired someone to do it.

It's always good to hear from you. Penny.

Karen and Nell - I remember stoves that need to be lit with a match, too. And evaporative coolers that were mounted on a window in the living room to cool the whole house.

I need to find some breakfast and take my morning supplements before I head out the door. Wishing you all a smile or two today♥

Blessings ~ Mo

Thanks for the Spark Goodie yesterday, Kay. I am still here and try to remember to spin the wheel every day, but that's about it. I am working every day at the candy store--this is our busiest time of the year with Christmas orders and baskets to fill. Church, home, friends are good and we are busy with life, I guess you could say. I seem to be as busy as when I worked fulltime as a teacher. I keep thinking things will slow down! Hmmmm. I'm going to be grammy again in February. We are contemplating moving to be close to our daughter and other 7 grandchildren. That would be a BIG change since we've been here for 30 years. We'll see how that develops. Thanks for checking on me.

Yesterday turned out to be a very busy day with several places to go. We took food to my cousin that has MS and heart problems. She was better, but her child and husband had a cold. Her husband stayed home from work. She had called to cancel the food, but I figured they needed now more than ever. So we drove to her home, and she met us at the door. We gave her a box of food for 2 meals. She just has to heat it. She gave us 3 throws that my aunt had made. She lives in a apartment complex for seniors. All she does is make warm throws from fleece. When my cousin went to visit her the last time, I sent enough fleece for 4 throws. I already had one. They I got the other one. One is for mother, our son and us.
Jean, I hope that you are alright. Update us when you feel like using the computer.
Penny, I also hope that you are getting back on track.
Nell, I wish I could hire you to clean my house. One day it will be all clean at one time.

I'm suppose to meet a friend for lunch, but it's not definite. She has a doctor's appointment and will let me know late morning. At least I will exercise this morning.
Stay warm. It feels like 22 in Ga. It will warm up later.

I will think about Christmas when I get home in December. That give's me about a week to figure out. what to do. The real Christmas will be here in Cartagena. I usually don't bring hostess gifts as I never know about the family I will be staying with; but as I live with them I find out their likes and dislikes and what might be appreciated around the house, so I am sure to get good, albeit, local gifts.

Today was the first day back in daycare after the holidays. I took in a meter long PVC tube and 20 ping-pong and wifle balls. The kids had a great time putting them in the tube and running after them when they came out the other end. It's so easy to keep one-year olds occupied.

I need to go into town and pick up my glasses today. I am having a pair of progressives made at about half the cost of the lenses in the US.

Then I will go grocery shopping to find the makings for the evening "meal, equivalent to our lunch. Think I will buy the ingredients for melted cheese, tomato and bacon sandwiches.

Jean: Take care. Sometimes the doctors just have to confer about the best plan for you based on your most recent tests. We are all pulling and meditating for you. Stay positive.

Copper, I do both the cooking and the cleaning up, but I am always listening to a recorded book while working. Sometimes I have to wash pots while I am still cooking because there would be too many to fit into the dish rack afterwards. With the book going, I sometimes look around for other busy work (dusting, ironing, cleaning the bathroom) just because I don't want to stop listening. I discovered books on tape in 1990 for driving, but it turns out to be better company when doing non-noisy housework, to the point where the housework is worth doing. The only housework I hate is vacuuming, because it's too noisy to be able to listen.

Jean, that's what happened to me & it turned out to be atrial fibrillation. They put me on Xarelto (once a day presciption blood thinner) & now it seems to be better. I get my right eye ( secondary cataract) lasered on the 21 & that should fix everything that's been wrong with me this year. Just hoping that next year is better. My mother used to tell me that life began at 40. I just didn't expect it to be filled with doctors & hospitals!

We're in the low 20's. Some places had a bit of snow but it didn't last.

Monk. I'd always thought each country had their own spices/herbs. My grandmother cooked on a wood cook stove. Some dishes were plain while she really used a free hand with iothers. She never used a rescipe. It was a dash of this or a pinch of that. since we retire Bill's taken over the cooking. I do the clean up. To be truthful, there's times when I'd rather not eat as have to do the clean up. He doesn't beleive in the one-pot therory!

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Maybe that would be a way to make sure hubby doesn't forget the date. Anyone remember the ad where the husband yells over to his wife that he couldn't get the code for the alarm system to work, and she called back that she'd changed it to their anniversary date. He froze, having, of course, no idea what that date was. Pretty funny.

I'm not into "calendar magic" either...just mentioning it. For somebody who doesn't remember dates well, it would be perfect for me to do something memorable on this date. So far I haven't done anything impressive and the rest of the day doesn't show much promise either. But I will be extra careful avoiding those buses when I go out.

It's 11/12/13. Has anybody been watching or hearing about this date today? Apparently some people have planned their wedding for today because of the number sequence, which doesn't happen that often (can't remember the stats).

Jean, you will find out soon. I hope you hear what you want to hear.

I wonder how people lived with the unknown throughout most of history, before phones or the instant worldwide communication we take for granted now. Up to WWII men went off to war and may have never been heard from again, thus the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. By the time Vietnam rolled around, none of the dead were unknown. Now we can find remains from old wars and through DNA testing find out who he was. Even on a more minor note, my kids know where their kids are every second of the day with GPS tracking on their kids' cellphones. When my kids were teens, we didn't even have call waiting. We sat by the phone, afraid to make a call, lest he trying to be calling us. Now I can call my kids and they'll answer, whether they are at the store or at the airport in Honolulu. We are just not accustomed to Not Knowing. It's hard.

I'm praying for you today, Jean. The not knowing is so hard. Once we know the facts, we can move forward with purpose, but it's so hard when we don't know how or what to plan.

Christmas for us this year will be rather quiet - just us two and the dog so far, but that's just fine. :)

Enjoy this chilly (at least here on the mountain in MD!) Tuesday, everyone.

Jean, I'm sorry that you don't know the plan. The doctor will look at your blood work results and go from there. When you feel like it, keep us updated.

Sandra, you will have January to look forward too. On Christmas, get together with friends and enjoy.

Our Christmas is so rushed. On Christmas Eve, we have a family Christmas for the 3 of us. Then we go to see my mother and family. for that evening. I don't think one of my brothers will be there. He and his wife are going to his wife's daughter's home. My mother will not understand, and I feel for her. She gets so depressed. Having her family together makes her happy. We will ride back Christmas day. Mother is so tired from Christmas Eve and family at the house. She will sleep. I think my brother that is in town will come over. Our son needs to drive home when we get back. He has to work the next day.

For the first time in 18 months there is no plan! I don't know what is going to happen after today so I don't even know if there is another plan...I just know that I have an uneasiness that I have not known before....that seems to grow moment by moment... so today is for me to try to get ready for the unknown whether it is what I want to hear or what I only dreamed about! I will see my Oncologist at 10 AM for lab and then meet with him to find out!

So as I pack up my inspiration to carry with me today, I ask that you carry me close in heart or in your prayers....please believe me when I say that I know well that each of you do! I wouldn't trade my time with you for anything, it is that treasured!

I will try to update my team message boards when I get home but I cannot make promises right now (don't mean to be negative just honest).

Sandra, how wonderful that you get to do Christmas! I work very hard to make a Magical Christmas every year. It's sparkly and light and lots of food and kids. Seeing their faces makes it all worth every minute of the days and days of preparation. When I am long gone they will be telling their grandkids about Christmas at Grandma's house when they were young. Kodak says the memories are in the photos, but they are really in the memories of the kids.

Karen: You owe that friend big time!

Kay: Great to hear your humourous side of things!

Ruth: I would have thought that there would be lots of spices in Colombian food. Is it just this particular family?

I'm not going to Denver after all (for Christmas). They will come here in January instead. I'm not disappointed as far as taking two planes to get there goes. They work really hard to create a beautiful Christmas so I'm glad they will have a break this year. Perhaps I'll speak to a single friend or two and make a plan.

The gas stoves I grew up with all needed a match, every time. Both the stove we cooked on and the stove that heated the house.

I think it was fairly common at the time. I remember other friends and relatives doing the same to light their range and heaters.

Ruth, I remember stoves with no pilot lights. We had a box of wooden matches in a special dispenser on the wall. The burners were easy, the oven was harder to reach the gas jet. Now we only have to light our burners when the power goes out. Something else too many people don't remember. Was Mexico your first experience without pilot lights? On TV the cooks all use towels to remove hot pans, but I've never gotten the hang of it. I remember an early FoodTV show called Door Knock Dinner or something like that. A couple of chefs would just knock on a door and make dinner with whatever they had with whatever tools were in the house. It was funny, and while they said the food turned out well, the TV audience had to take their word for it.

Yesterday I went and bought vegetables and the Senora asked me if I wanted to cook. So today I tried cooking. I think I'm a fair cook, not a gourmet, but I can turn out a tasty meal now and then. But cooking is this household was like cooking with one hand. Things that we take for granted to have in the kitchen, pepper, bullion cubes, parsley, spices, bread crumbs were not available. I sent Estafania out for stale bread and we made bread crumbs, but I did not have the spices to give them flavor. The pots and pans are a scattering of things, many without lids, and there is not a pot holder to be found anywhere in the kitchen. For me, using towels to remove hot things from the stove was fraught with anxiety...what if I spilled everything?

Then, too, there is the stove, gas stove, that must be lit with a lighter. I still recall trying to light a stove in Mexico and a cloud of gas exploded on my face and singed all my facial hair, eyebrows, eye lashes and hair around my face. I am very careful to have the lighter lit when I turn the gas on!

The next time I am asked to cook I will be sure to get all the ingredients at the store before I start on a project. That's a natural for most cooks, but the Colombian kitchen gets by on a lot less than the American kitchen has available. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Kay, Isn't it great to have a doctor with a sense of humor? lol

We all have those "funny" spells where we can't remember, can't find, and wonder where we are. If it makes you feel any better, Joe does it too sometimes and he's only 49. We help each other. It's good that someone has your back, lol.

Mo, if you think you'd enjoy his company, give it a try. You might surprise yourself once you are in a room with live music and lots of dancing. I almost missed out on Joe because I hesitated. My good friend told me I'd be a fool not to go, lol. What are friends for?

Karen

Viv, I'm glad that you are inside with just a little snow.

Mo, why don't you go out for dinner with your friend if you don't want to dance. Enjoy an evening and see how it goes.

Ruth, you seem to be having a good time. Keep it up.

Karen, I'm not surprised that you liked to edit.

The doctor's visit went fine physically as far as I know now. Mentally, it didn't go so well. I told him that I was going to run errands and went to the passenger side of the car to get in one morning. Also, one night when I came home from a meeting, I got out of the car with my stuff and kept hearing a noise. I had not turned the car off, and left my keys. He wanted to know if my arrangements were made. I told him partly. He said to go by the funeral home on the way home and finish up. I was his first patient, and he was in rare form. If you don't hear from me; the end has been finalized.

Mo: I think it's lovely to have somebody interested. Try not to project too much into it (I need to tell myself this!)...make of it whatever you like. I miss having a male friend because, to me, it's a totally different dynamic. Keep us posted!

Good morning - wait it's afternoon. I slept until after 11 this morning. Last week was busy, busy, busy culminating in a gathering of women friends at my house Saturday night that went on till after midnight. Yesterday was church and then a family gathering at my daughter's house - first time for her to do the whole family at her new home and it was quite lovely for me to be a guest instead of the hostess!

I was flattered when one of the older single gentlemen at church yesterday asked me to go dancing. Have to wonder if I'm sending out different vibes these days. Hard to believe my DH has been gone seven and a half years. I told him I'd think about it but not sure this old body is up for dancing anymore - not sure how I feel about the whole idea.

Thinking of you all and wishing I had time for personal notes but I've been sitting here way too long!

Blessings ~ Mo

Well snow came as predicted, looks nice and fluffy. Do not think it will be more than 1/2 inch if that. Will all be gone on Thursday as we will be back in the 40's.

I spent two hours yesterday editing a paper for someone. I actually enjoy that sort of thing. I've edited a few Indie e-books that I read and then emailed the author with suggestions for edits and one thing let to another and I edited the entire book.

I should have been an editor. Maybe in my next life, lol.

Thank a veteran today.
