Jean: emoticon to you. Going through chemo is a b****. You're zonked out, then you throw up all the toxins they put in you. I was probably a little better off than you when I was going through chemo and radiation therapy. I purchased a cheap bike and rode everywhere on it, took an aerobics class three nights a week, bowled, played (?) golf, played (?) bridge and read a lot. Anything to keep my mind off of what was happening to my body. But, yes, a positive attitude, is the thing that will help you get through it the most.

Viv: I found out the secret to joining two lines together, shift/ delete together.

This morning I was up at 3:30 am, parched. I went to the kitchen to get two glasses of cold water then tried to get back to sleep. That didn't work, so before dawn I walked over the bridge to the beach. I was surprised to see so many people walking (and jogging) at 5 a.m. But, if you think about it, that's the perfect time of the day, cool, no traffic to deal with, almost solitary, a great time for contemplating. Got in 3.25 miles, 69 minutes of aerobic walking.

Have a great day, everyone. I'll check back in after I come home from the day care center.

Jean, staying positive will lift you spirits during your treatments. Good luck and keep us updated. We are thinking about what you are going through now. I know it's not pleasant.

I'm not a tech person, but we are fortunate that our son works with computers. He does help when he's home, and I send him tech help emails regularly. He walks me through problems, but then I forget what he said for me to do if it happens again.

Today, my goal is to almost finish filing and do some more cleaning.

Have a good day.

I agree that modern tech is not for shaky senior fingers and that learning something new really can make you frustrated and feeling like you are old!

Short posting this week due to chemo schedule....and I will be working a different schedule! I have committed keeping the goal of daily team check in for October goal (and will renew for November!) so I will try to do update daily at a minimum...but believe me when I say your daily comments and messages keep me going! So I will do everything on my power to keep in touch!!!!!

Have a good week...I know I am going to...and stay positive!

Made a quick trip to Seattle for my niece's birthday (it was 40th so she had a "reunion" of sorts). Took daughter Kelli and her fiancé, Troy. Hubby Larry stayed home with all our dogs (her 4 and my 2). It was a nice visit. I don't see my family in Seattle nearly enough--son, grandkids, brother and family--so it was a fast but full trip.

The WORST word in my language is "upgrade." My computer NEVER works after one. I recently changed web providers and it took 2 weeks to get things working. Lots of words I never say out loud!!! My biggest problem with the cell phone is my fingers hit the wrong keys. I recently got rid of my landline because I never use it, but now I don't have big keys to view and hit, so I'm now using a stylus with my cell. Cumbersome.

Ruth, keep sharing the stories.

Ruth sounds very interesting, you can always adjust tomorrow.
I got my front outside windows and door done while waiting for the trick and treaters the rush appears to be over and it is too cold to do anything outside, only have 50 minutes to go so and going to eat the chicken veggie and rice soup I made from the chicken my daughter bought to made her soup a few days ago. It tastes very good.
Have a very good evening all, I am going to watch the world series as I am a baseball fan.
Night all.

Thanks for the tip Viv. I will try it.

Sunday is a day of rest around here and the family does not eat its main meal until at 3:30 or 4 p.m. Today it was smoked pork, rice and salad. While sitting at the table a lady came to the door selling cocadas (hope that's the right spelling). I bought seven so everyone could have one. They are made with freshly grated coconut, milk that has been cooked until it is caramelized, and sugar. I am sure I ate half a day's worth of calories in the one little patty, but it was scrumptious. oh well, I won't eat again today.

We had a very nice luncheon at another church today. I ate very little chicken because I couldn't get to the meat. The mac/cheese was delicious, but I ate a small portion. The seasoned veggies were also good. I skipped the biscuits, but I lost it on the pound cake. They had several sliced on each table with a bowl of chocolate sauce. I ate a slice of vanilla cake without the sauce.
In the morning I need to do a good workout. My cellphone fell out of my purse. We will pick it Tuesday morning at the church. Tomorrow my husband is raking and working outside. I filing and getting ready for a new file cabinet. We found a 3 drawer. That's really cutting down from what we have had in the past.
Jean, it's good to hear from you. I hope today is a good day.

The problem with technology is that it is always changing. We have to be ready to change also, but as we get older it is more difficult to learn new things (brain synapses shorting out, maybe) so these :newfangled things" just frustrate us. Even though the devices are easier and easier and more people friendly, just learning a new system or knowing where to look for hot buttons or prompts is frustrating.

I have a new laptop and for the life of me I can't find how to delete space to join two lines together. ( delete button and backspace button doesn't do it)..so if you you see weird postings from me, that's why. One of these days I'll have an Ah Ha moment...in the meantime
look for unjoined lines.

I hope the rain slows down. You can have too much, and then not enough.
The weather has been strange.

We went to early church, and then came home for a while. Later we will go to a church luncheon. The menu is fried chicken, macaroni/cheese seasoned veggies, etc., plus a dessert. I will just watch my portions, because I like all those foods. It will be my supper also, unless I eat a small yogurt later.

Nell, I know what you are saying about the cell phone. Mother has one and a land phone. She will not call me except on the cell. She can hardly use it because of the buttons. I have asked my brothers to get one with large keys. They haven't yet. Sometimes she gets her caregivers to dial me, but then we can't really talk. She thinks it costs too much to use her land phone. She rarely uses it. She never makes a long distance call on it. We just do the best we can with our mothers. I'm sure they did for us.

I wonder if we'll get any of that rain, Karen. It wouldn't be today, though, sunny and cool for the Marine Corps Marathon.

Mom sent an email yesterday saying she wants a cell phone. She has a cell phone, and I have shown her how to use it a dozen times, but she cannot understand it. She was never a cell phone user, so has no memory to fall back on. She has no idea that she has dementia, blames equipment or us, or anything else. She doesn't need a cell, she is never alone except in her apartment, but most of the people where she lives have cell phones (of course). She must have been failing long before I noticed.

Yesterday Apple updated the iOS on the iPad, and reset all the settings. Hubby had no idea how to re-enter settings, and I am an Android person and was fumbling with iOS, so I drove to the Apple store. Then a few days ago, a spam email came from hubby's AOL account so they locked his account. This is the second time this has happened. An hour with an AOL rep (probably in India) got that sorted out. Electronics are a blessing and a curse, especially for old fogeys like me. My nephews speak electronic devise as a first language. I need a translator.

That was a 4 1/2" rain storm. I hope there was no flooding for anyone. Otherwise, I'm happy to have it.

I'll be buying bags of tootsie roll pops this week, to hand out on Halloween. I buy those because there's no chance I'll eat 5 of them in a matter of minutes. Those handy bite-sized Snickers, Milky Way, Three Musketeers, etc. are out of bounds, lol. Too, too easy to just keep stuffing them in my mouth.

We had a tremendous rains storm last night and it woke me twice. I'm amazed I fell back asleep each time. It sounded like someone was outside my window with a garden hose spraying! At daylight, I'll go out at see the rain gauge. We needed it all though, because when Joe and I drove across the lake last evening on the way home from Austin, there were way too many green fields and not enough blue water.

Kay and Viv, thanks for the updates on Nomi. Eagerly awaiting when she can spend some time with us at her pc.

Going to my son's house today to celebrate birthdays. He's picking up my mother and I'll be taking her home afterwards.

Have a great Sunday!

Vista, I'm sorry that you are not sleeping. If I get warm with the covers, and the heat down, I can sleep. I don't like the heat blowing at night.

Naomi is going to let me know when the neighbors start bringing food in for her, and I will fly to NY. I wish I could. It's too bad that she can't read all the good wishes. Her computer time is limited. We want her to get better.

Hi everyone I received an email from Naomi she is glad to be home, she appreciates all the good wishes. Not sure when she will be on line as doctor told her to limit her reading, TV and computer time as doing these over tasks the brain.
Plans on resting a lot and her son and daughter will alternate weekends with her.
Ruth beach for the day sounds good as it is quite chilly today.
Have a good day everyone and take care of yourselves.

Today is a beach day for me. Going to the tourist beaches, so much cleaner, even though the water is the same . I will take my main meal of the day at one of the casual restaurants where I can put a pair of shorts over my bathing suit and be served.

Kay, when you talk to Naomi, but sure to tell her to be patient with her recovery. Ron is fine now since his strokes, though he did need to make some changes. He had to sell his motorcycle and buy a trike, and he takes a lot longer to get things done, but he is fine now. If you didn't know him before you'd never know he has had a few strokes. Patience, that hardest of virtues, pays off.

Gail CONGRATULATIONS on the weight loss this is exciting. We had a hard frost last night also, now hoards of leaves are down you would never know I had them all cleaned up over a week ago.
Jean and Penny how are things going with you ladies?
Giinna car bills along with house and medical bills are so high these days, good luck.
Kay good you took a break today.
Nell I am sure Naomi will love to hear how well your DH is doing when she logs back in. It always helps to hear from people who have firsthand experience. Nell I used to get fresh eggs from friends who raised chickens before they went to AZ a couple of years ago and they do taste better, take the compliment as it was meant it is always nice to hear.
Mo thanks for checking out the video it was a thoughtful thing they did and a great surprise.
Karen the picture of your Rooster taking the other harem brought a chuckle. Thanks.
Vista you have a good weekend also.
Sandra love the poem thanks for the smile. Thanks for sharing the utube.
Karen do not think you are preaching, I did a tour of a slaughter house many years ago and this taught me to buy local and now days grassed fed or free range etc.
Ruth glad you could cool off, they are probably so used to it they do not notice.
TGIF have a good evening everyone.

Think about that a while, Ruth, and maybe you'll change your mind. In fact I'm sure you meant that to just be humorous. Sadly, there actually ARE setups like that, or pretty close, where the chickens live very sad lives. Animal activists and people like me (not an activist) who just like chickens (and all animals) are very against it.

That's why, if you can't raise your own, or buy from someone who can, you always get the ones that are marked "cage free, free range", etc. In other words, you try to only support those who keep "happy chickens". That extends to the meat and milk, etc. etc. Grass fed, free range, humanely treated. You can find these at farmer's markets, too.

Lot's of very good people have never been "off the pavement" and don't understand where their food comes from. My wonderful friend Joe was like that when I met him. After hanging out with me for 15 years, his outlook has changed, lol.

You know, we often thank soldiers and policeman, etc. for what they do for us, and we should. We should also thank farmers and ranchers who supply our food and we should make sure our children know where our food comes from. It's not KFC or McDonalds, or even the grocery store. I'd like to take them on a tour of a farm or ranch.

I didn't mean to be preachy, I've just spent a lot of time in the company of animals, know quite a few of them personally, and want them to be appreciated and treated well. I even feel that way about a few people, lol.

Sandra, that's a beautiful rendition of a song I've always loved. Thanks!

Jean, my kids learned to "grade" eggs in Ag class. How the egg yolk stands up is a big part of it; so is the viscosity of the egg white. Flat and runny gets last place. Thanks for the reminder.

"Put something silly in the world, That ain't been there before."
I like that advice, lol.

Hello All:

I don't think I've ever had eggs that didn't come out of a carton. Why don't they just put the chickens on top of the cartons and let them drop into the egg slots? Seems like it would be easier!

Hot as Hades today. I cannot believe that all the little kids at the day care were dressed for "Banda de la Salud" in long pants and dresses as doctors, nurses and surgeons and as fruits and vegetable and marched through the streets at midday to the Plaza. The used to say that mad dogs and Englishmen only went out in the midday sun, but now I know that teachers send their little ones out too. I came home in the midday sun and took a cool shower.

Just had to post this. Hope you can listen/watch it. A singer I just discovered, not a kid, named Rhiannon. She is singing Shenandoah.

I wish I could have chickens, but they aren't allowed in our county. The next county over allows chickens but not roosters, except in planned communities which ban them. The only farm animals allowed are horses, and you have to own at least 2 acres to keep a horse. I remember fresh eggs as a kid. Maybe it's my fond memory, but I remember eggs tasting better back then. We also used to kill and cook the old laying hens as stewing chickens. Try to find them in the store these days. I guess no one stews chicken anymore.

I just went to Great Falls National Park and got my Senior Pass. Finally! I could have gotten it over 2 years ago but never got around to it. Love the guy in the booth; he told me I didn't look anywhere near 62. The old charmer!

Thanks, Mo. Pages are always set up to attack them from different angles.

Speaking of attacking: I have a couple of old roosters in my building and I'm glad they are not taking advantage of the pecking order system although I would put up a good fight.

Vista: Nice to see you back as a regular.

I have a very foggy head so far today. I was going to call somebody to go for coffee but I don't think I'd be good company.

Here's something I found on-line a while ago:

A little bit of Shel Silverstein is in order:

Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.

Do a loony-goony dance'
Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world,
That ain't been there before.

Good morning....I, too, have a long list of to do's today.

Gail congratulations on one pound. If you do that every week that's 52 pounds in the year!

Hope the CT is normal!

Have a good weekend, everyone.

Kay, I'm in the same place you were the other day. No posting notices of this team and now there are half a dozen posts here.

Gail, I've raised chickens a good part of my life and hatched them in an incubator. I always enjoy the "girls" and miss having them. During a time when we didn't have any, someone gave my hubby a beautiful rooster, who was pretty aggressive. The first day he was in our yard, he went down the hill to our neighbor, beat up his rooster and brought all his "girls" to our yard, lol. That's where the term "pecking order" comes from, lol.

I'm happy Nomi is home. Progress is often slow on recovering from strokes, but she'll get there. She'll need some patience. It's hard to go from being active to - - - not. Most of us get pretty frustrated when it happens. Wishing her the best and fastest recovery.

I always go to "My Spark Points" page from the orange line across the top of any page that says START - MY TRACKERS - ARTICLES & VIDEOS - COMMUNITY - SHOP.

From MY TRACKERS the drop down menu when you put your arrow gizmo over it - I go to "my Spark Points" ( the next to last choice and that is the page I use for spins and tracking food and all the other ways you can get points.
From COMMUNITY, I go to "Spark Teams" and that lets me go to each of my teams to post .

So glad Naomi has been in contact - will keep her in the Prayer Heart and in my prayers.

I watched the you tube birthday wishes - what fun, Vivienne!

I have a full day of places to go and things to do - it's been that kind of week. Thinking of you all♥

Blessings ~ Mo

Freezing here in Virginia this morning, too.

Congrats on your pound loss, Gail!

If Naomi does as well after her stroke as my hubby has after his last 3, she'll be fine. Modern medicine is truly a miracle!

Gail and Ginny, it's good to hear from you.
It is cold. We are going to run some errands. Then we will be home for the day.

Naomi just got back from her CT scan. Of course you know it's takes time to get the results.

I hope Jean and Penny are feeling better.

Cold morning here in GA. I thought I was leaving this behind, but it seems to be with us.

Congratulations on your lost pound, Gail. Getting back to tracking food is something I really need to do.

I'm glad to hear the good news about Nomi. Really am hoping that she continues to make speedy progress.

I've got to take DH to the repair shop to pick up our pick up. It finally succumbed to what has amounted to neglect. We knew it needed some attention last year, but chose to ignore it. The truck paid us back by refusing to start on our return from Michigan. It went into the shop on the back of a tow. I hate to see our bill.

First hard frost of the year hear in Maryland - feels wonderful to me, but the tomatoes still on the vine are less thrilled...the chickens haven't seemed to notice. :)

Exciting day - first lost pound in a while...the first of many more with tweaks in my program. Thanks to everyone for all the ideas!

Have a super day, everyone!

Good morning. It's in the 30's here, and we have a freeze warning for in the morning.
That's unusual for Ga. this early. I did wash a blanket yesterday to put on the bed this morning.

Ruth, those kids would wear me out all day. I can do a couple of hours, but that's my limit.

Sandra, I know you are enjoying the weather. Stay warm.

We only have two errands this morning, but are not in any hurry. Then file, file and more filing.

Have a warm day!
