Peter Lawford is the other one. Buddy's Hackett's son is playing Joey Bishop.
I'll post tomorrow about the show. We are anxious to see it.

Of course I am not of that certain age. emoticon

I saw Buddy Hackett's son in the last milenium in Las Vegas. He was a terrible comic. I hope he is a better director. Was Buddy Hackett in the rat pack?
The ones I remember were Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and an actor whose was married to one of the Kennedy sisters whose name escapes me at the moment. Who were the others? A trivia question for all those of a certain age or who are Google proficient.

Going on my monthly trek to the Philadelphia Museum of Art then to Swarthmore College to see "Sleuth" this evening.

Have a great, healthy day, everyone.

Ruth, be careful with your cold. You don't want it to develop into pneumonia.
Have fun with your mentee.

Nell, I think it's a good idea to begin passing on valuables to children. I've already given our son some of our things, and I want to give him more.

Today is going to be a good day. May husband and I are going to lunch together. Tonight we are going to see the Rat Pack. It's a production by Buddy Hackett's son and daughter-in-law. It should be good. Of course some of you may not remember them.

Good Morning Team:

Just called my step grandaughter to get her her children's SSN's. I completely forgot there was a four hour time difference between here and California. Am I aging or what?

This morning after walking Shiba I went to the pharmacy for more cold medicine. I cannot shake this cold and cough. It's been around for a week now.

This afternoon, I will be taking a cake to my mentee in honor of her 15th birthday. Also have a small gift which I hope she will like.

I am off to Culpeper this morning to have lunch with my #son, the dietician. I'll meet him at the hospital and take him to his favorite restaurant. I'll be giving him my mother's sterling silver to keep and pass on to his kids someday. Dishes and glasses chip, sterling lasts forever.

Have a great day!

It's hard to get to know someone online, and it is much harder if you don't know their name. Those of us who have been here a while call each other by our first names or nicknames.

The link above takes you to our team thread on SP Tips and Questions. If you go to the post with my picture on it dated 3/21/10, you'll see HOW TO HAVE YOUR NAME ON EVERY POST YOU MAKE.

I'm sorry that you are having to have carpet installed because of Sandy, but you do have a house.

My mother is also funny about phones. She can barely use her cell phone, but won't pay to use her land phone to call me. When she does call and we get disconnected, I just call her back on her land phone.

Today I will be gone most of the day. I am running errands, treating myself to a manicure, lunch/Bible study and a late meeting. I may take some snacks. I don't eat much at the time, but I eat often.

WINWIN1, (sorry I don't know your name)

I'm also a lover of tech devices - iphone, ipad, ipod, Kindle, blu ray streaming for my tvs, etc. etc. And I also believe that the cell phone is the greatest SAFETY device ever!

I used to watch Unsolved Mysteries long ago, and see stories of young girls who vanished just a mile from home when their car broke down. In the days of no cell phones you were out of luck and at the mercy of strangers. I'm all for everyone having this life-saving emergency device. Of course, if you're into smart phones, they are also really fun and useful.

I'm going to take my Mother to Wal-mart, second time this week. She wants a new phone. Scott, my son who lives here, and I have given her about 5 phones in the couple of years she has lived here. She can't see. She can't figure out the buttons. She pulls them off and drops them on the floor. etc. etc.

I told her yesterday that I would buy her one of those BIG button phones but she said no. Why? The are UGLY! The woman's blind and she's worried about having an ugly phone. LOL Laughing here to keep from crying!

I wonder if I'll ever get my life back?

I hope all of you enjoy YOUR life today!

Karen

Without my phone I feel like I've lost something. They also help keep us safe! Amazing since we spent most of our lives without these devises right? Then, the laptop and tablet...I'm not that great at making them do what I want but I love to learn...I'm tired today since I stayed up to watch the first three mushers come in the Iditarod. But, I don't sleep that well sometimes...another thing I'm working on.

I want to creat a work out plan...trying to keep this fun so I want to do it. Need to swim, walk and do something with light weights...I've been doing a good job of walking and stretching everyday so far. Next week the new puppy comes...so I'm sure I'll be getting tons of walking, running, stretching and lifting....haha.

Hope everyone has a great day - thank you for your encouragement - I'm also working on getting to know you all. I appreciate being here. Enjoy the day!! emoticon emoticon

I can't imagine life without a cell phone anymore, either, even though I spent most of my life without one. It saves so much time and angst!! When I am supposed to meet someone we can call and find each other with no problems. No more hanging around the landline waiting for someone to call.

My cell phone has become so important to me. It is handy when I'm meeting someone, and one of us is late. If I have an emergency.
I never talk on it when I'm driving. It does have a speaker button. If out of town family calls, I can press speaker and put the phone in my lap.

Karen, you are also glad that Joe is getting better. He doesn't need to rush into bending, etc.

Naomi, I'm going to try to go up and down our basement stairs when I am out of my routine like today.

Glad Joe is getting better, Karen.
I'm better off with sleep if I have no appointments in the morning. Then, if I'm awake during the night about once now, and then wake up around six or seven, I can fall back to sleep for another couple of hours. I'm missing the two-days-a-week exercise classes because they're at 9:30 a.m. but have found a 2:30 p.m. one. Now I need one more afternoon class.

A friend has lost 10 pounds recently and one of the things she is doing, despite having a bad knee, is walking up 10 flights of stairs in her building every day. That's really what I must start doing here. We have 13 flights but the top is called the "penthouse". I'm wicked sometimes when I ask another tenant on the elevator "what floor?" and they say: "PH" and I say: "You mean 13?"

iphone5? I don't even have a cell phone! But I love having this laptop and have used computers the bulk of my working life. It's hard to believe I started out using a TYPEWRITER! and a manual one at that! Q W E R T, Y U I O P...over and over again.

Nomi, I know how you feel. I had a restless time last night and woke up tired. Let's hope we have some deep sleep tonight!

Viv, Joe is still off work and will be all this week. He missed half of last week. Finally, he IS getting better, walking a little better, but can't bend over. The engineer's office where he works is up one flight of stairs, no elevator, so he's happy not to be going to work this week. I've been helping with dishwasher and laundry - anything that takes bending.

Did I say I upgraded to an iphone 5? I know most of you are not tech-freaks like me, but I'm having lots of fun with my new toy.

Sweet dreams to you all!

When is spring coming? We have jonquils and lenten roses blooming, but that's it.

It's so good to see WINWIN1 and TORTOISE110 with our chat (support thread). It is not motivating with rainy cold weather to exercise. I'm doing inside DVDs and the treadmill. Since I was gone most of the day, I haven't done either yet. Maybe I'll get one of them later.

Ruth, good luck with the cake. I wish you could send us samples of your baking so we be testers for you.

Went for coffee and a small walk at the mall with my Spark Buddy this soggy Tuesday morning.
Today is my mentee's 15th birthday, but I will not see her this week until Thursday. It will be a prolonged celebration. Think I should make a cake for her and decorate it with flowers?

Good morning - Have been doing the SparkCoach every day and doing a bit better. I am also watching the Iditarod...and SW Eagles getting ready to fly...whew, this retirement keeps me busy. I am often a "slug with a book". These rainy/cold days are great for that.

Keeping track on the Tracker has never been my greatest thing...but I have been doing it every day. I am amazed at how much sodium is in everything...and also I'm not getting enough protein (according to the tracker) most days. It really does help...who knew. For me, it takes up quite a bit of time, but maybe I'll get better at it and it will go faster!

Thanks for being here - I hope you all have a great day. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good morning, team. I've gotten so many sweet welcome notes from this team! Thank you.
I woke up in soggy Virginia today and am determined to find a way to get outside for a long walk. I must be ready for spring because I can be a "slug with a book" pretty easily on a chilly winter day, but it doesn't sound good today! I hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday.

Copperpenny I am not a big pill taker, but after surgery they are not just for the pain or discomfort they are to help relax the muscles so they can heal quicker and better, discomfort makes them tense. Take for a few days.

I had the same attitude toward pain pills after surgery, too, but was told that even discomfort can cause you to be tense in ways that will inhibit proper recovery. You want the best outcome after going through the process, so it's worth it to follow your doctor's instructions to the letter.

Thought I'd posted but guess I didn't. I had hernia surgery on the 4 th. I get the staples & drain tube taken out tomorrow. Not really in pain but am very uncomfortable. My doctor had a fit when he found out I wasn't taking the pain pills he'd ordered for me. I told him that there was a differance in pain & just being uncomfortable. He just kept going until I told him that I felt sorry for his wife as he just didn't lisen. But I do feel very tired. Can't lift anything over 5 pounds.

It's cold and raining today. Just want to curl up with a book but then I'll go to sleep & wake up sometime during the nigth wide awake!

Hope everyone has a good & safe day!

Ruth, I wear latex (or nitrile) gloves when working with piecrust or biscuit dough or meat loaf, anything where the fat would soften from the heat of my hands. It isn't perfect but it gives me that little insulation. The fat is supposed to melt in the oven, not in my hands.

Well, I guess I'm not a coffee and tea snob by Nell's definition. I"m just peculiar and fussy! That's a relief!

Stupid; That's how I feel today. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

On Saturday the heater shut down, no display on the thermostat. I checked the main breaker and it was on. Called an HVAC firm and it sent a man today. Seems there is another circuit breaker on the heat exchanger and that tripped off. Doh! I never knew there was another circuit breaker. It was a matter of flipping a switch to get the heater back on. Paid heavily for that stupidity. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Also called an electrician, who will be here later today, because I thought it might be an electrical problem. But he was due to come back because the last time he was here he disconnected something on a circuit and it hasn't worked for months. I'll get him to repair that, and work on reconnecting my water heater timer that I disconnected when I went on off peak eons ago. Now that the energy company no longer offers off peak pricing my electric bills have tripled, and it's time to economize again. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I would not get myself into these problems if I knew something about electrical and heating air-conditioning trouble shooting. Will be my next course if it's ever offered at night school.

David has the green light from his orthopedic surgeon to sleep on his side again...and to start limited physical therapy and exercise. He has been such a computer slug the last couple of months. Tomorrow he starts his new job.

I'm going to be learning advanced techniques in cake decorating tonight. Hope my icing is "stiff" enough. Last week the butter icing I made melted in my pastry bag, my hands were so warm. I think pastry chefs have to have cold hands and poor circulation to be successful.
Better for my diet and figure if I fail at this course.

Does anyone still have an old moka pot stuck in a closet somewhere? We found ours and DH uses in every day now for a cup of "espresso". No crema, but tastes pretty close to the real thing. I'd forgotten about stovetop "espresso".

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moka_pot

They are cheaper than a french press.

Kay, I love my Keurig too! I have an assortment of coffees, decafs, and teas. I also use it for a fast cup of hot water if I want to use an herbal teabag. It's a great invention!

Coffee and tea are both good for me, but I like my coffee the first thing in the morning. We have one of the Keurig coffee makers, and I love it. It is fast. There are 3 decaf coffees that I enjoy, several teas, apple cider and hot chocolates. All I do is heat the water for 3 minutes and brew.

Today is my mother's 90th birthday. I will call later when she is awake. I sent her another card which she should get today. Several of her nieces and nephews also sent cards along with church people. No telling how many she will get today. She will go through them everyday. Little things do mean a lot if you read my blog today.

I thought I was a coffee or tea snob until my kids and my nephew showed me what that really meant. My youngest son drinks tea, orders single origin teas from the internet, measures the leaves, heats water to the exact temp required for that particular leaf, and times the steep for that type of tea. My nephew weighs and grinds his beans right before each cup, grinds it to the right grind, controls the water temp. He has presspots, drips, espresso for his mood. Both can tell from the aroma and mouth feel just what kind of leaf or bean being used. I admire it but can't be that precise myself. I only do leaf tea now, but don't want to fuss with the thermometer to make it "perfect". I weight and grind my beans, but my good old Hamilton Beach drip coffeemaker does just fine.

Missed posting on Sunday, but it is now just after 12 am and I have been enjoying all the postings.

I am not fussy about anything EXCEPT my tea and coffee. You could feed me dog food and I'd be happy, but put milk in my tea and i will swear you are trying to poison me. Give me anything but Colombian coffee and I will try to get by by adding half and half (it improves even the worst coffee).I am a coffee and tea snob and I'll admit it.

Cataracts. Can't wait till mine ripen and I can get them removed. Driving at night is more bothersome now...but I can't always avoid going out at night. Maybe I will look worse but I will see better.

Kay: So glad your Mom enjoyed her 90th birthday. I am sure it was great to see all the family under one roof at the same time.

My cough was annoying today so after feeding and taking the dog out at 7 am I went back to bed until noon. It was a great day to putz around in the kitchen and get my tax information together for the accountant.

Hi!
Re the "being able to see" either through a cataract operation or new glasses...it's not all positive, is it? Way back when I got my first glasses, I had been complaining about needing a new television (I Hate having to replace ANYTHING!). After getting the glasses (bifocals, which I took to immediately), I came home, turned the TV on, and BINGO! it was like a new TV. Is that what you would call a mixed blessing? I was happy!

Nell: I can imagine you and your friend laughing over her seeing her real age/face after the improved vision. Another mixed blessing.

Re the tea: We think of black tea as regular tea. Most tea is black except for the various green teas available, some of which are actually yellowish, and all the herbal teas. I still make it in a teapot even if I'm the only one drinking it and use just the one teabag. I also use a tea cozy (cosey?) to put over the pot while it's steeping. Some Nova Scotians, especially Cape Bretoners, are famous for boiling tea and/or keeping a pot on the "back burner" all day. I'm a real sissy in that regard. Anyway, I love the ritual of making tea, even just for myself, which is the case almost all of the time.

Kay et al: Years ago when I was away for a while and came back (no...I wasn't in prison...naughty ladies), my mother was shuffling around and lethargic. I was angry both with her doctor and with my sister who was a bit of a "pill pusher". I made an appointment for Mom with a Gerontologist and he cut out all the meds and started from scratch with just a few. She was always a vibrant, feisty woman, and after that she had at least another 20 years in which to vent her strong opinions and keep people on their toes with her humour and intellect. Her mind was sharp til the very end. We must remember this when it's our turn and, being 70, I don't have any illusions that it's necessarily far away. And I still have "getting hit by a bus" as one of the possibilities. But, actually, the way some of my friends drive makes me feel much safer in and around buses. :) I'm an ungrateful wretch! That's an old familiar statement.

Well, it's Sunday and we've all been sprung ahead!

:)

We are home and tired. When we arrived mother was still asleep at 12:30 which is not unusual. I woke her up, and she got up. She said one of my brothers was supposed to call her. They probably tried. If she's out of it; she doesn't hear the phone.
She has to take meds 4 times a day so breakfast at 12:30 was her first dose. She rambled in conversing all afternoon. It took me forever to get her dressed for her birthday dinner. The dinner was a success. She ate well and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone showed up.
She was a different person after the dinner. I do think she is over medicated. She has been very depressed lately. Her psychiatrist increased her meds. I think she misunderstood him. She is taking more than what the bottle says. I've been keeping up with the meds for years. I am emailing my brother, and he is going to call and confirm her dosage and times of day.
She repeats herself. This is a new stage for her.
I know I rambled. I'm just tired.

I hope that all of you are fine. I need to email my brother now.

So basically, any strong black tea is used in the morning, like we use coffee? Tea never tastes as strong to me as coffee. But I guess I'm just used to hot coffee and cold tea, lol.

Karen,a cuppa, just means a cup of tea, black tea usually.Nowadays most people make it straight in a cup or mug with a tea bag and add boiling water and a splash of milk and maybe some sugar.
My mother always made it in a teapot with loose tea,but that seems to have gone out of fashion, you don't see much loose tea in the supermarkets anymore it's all teabags now.

Cathy, I'm so glad you got that done with happy results!

Viv, I felt like your friend when I got contacts for the first time. I could see! Those trees across the lake really had leaves on them! I was only about 35 but even then, I was disappointed when I looked in the mirror once I could see clearly, lol. Now, I'd love to have that 35 year old face back!

Cathy, you know I watch a ton of British tv series. Tell me, when they talk about having a good cuppa tea in the morning, what kind of tea are they drinking?
