I have a BSN and currently got a job at a university teaching clinicals two days a week. They are giving me the same amount of free semester hrs as I teach (ie. I 'm teaching 6 hrs, I get 6 hrs free in classes). I am enrolling next semester and working towards my masters. This could be a way that you could get your masters for free, too!

I checked with the hosp. that I am working at and asked what they wanted in return, they said nothing other than to be good nurses, but it would be good if we continued to work there after we got our RN. PRETTY COOL,HUH?

I want to go back to get my BSN and the more that I have looked at it the more confused that I got.....I am going to look into tuition reimbursement at work too, a friend is doing her Masters and she is just doing it with the reimbursement and that is all she then does for that year so that she is not in debt, we have to give a years service for every year of reimbursement that we take.

I am in the process of doing the same. My hospital reimburses me tuition as long as it is towards my BSN. I have to buy the books but I usually buy used and then can resell for at least half the cost. The other half we include on our taxes for the year. Some colleges have a fast track RN to BSN program that you can complete in less than 15 months. I can't do that right now due to hubby being laid off for awhile (he has a job now) and having to work overtime. Hopefully I will be able to double up on classes soon. Almost all my classes are on line too and that really helps with the crazy schedule we sometimes work. Good luck.
Oh BTW, I am using the UTA program. You might check out Academic Partnerships and find a college near you.

Good luck! (not sarcastically either lol) Seriously, I had a rough time the second time around when I went back for my bachlor's. I am in debt so far into my future its ridiculous. I did get some grants but the bulk 85% of it was all loans. Tuition reimbursement from an employer wasn't an option for me either. CHeck with the college you'll be going to though - that's why they have financial aid offices - to help you with this sort of thing!

A lot of nurses and others at my hospital use tuition reimbursement from the hospital to get their educations. They often have to pay back with time for the money but they get their educations and without a lot of out of pocket costs.

I'm going back to school to get my bachelor's in nursing. Because of finances, I need to find a way to get a grant, scholarship, etc. to pay for college.

I haven't been in school since 1995, so it's not like I have access to a career counselor. Can anyone recommend places, or websites where I should look?

Have any of you gone back to school for free? Is it even possible?

Help! emoticon
