Just brought home a Viking Sapphire 875 and been breaking it in. There's a lot to learn on it but so far, it's great! I'm hoping it will do some amazing things with all those decorative stitches I have on it.

well In have a older singer-but like most of you have stated singer isn't what it use to be-I miss the one from when I was teen that one worked like a dream-also have 2 brothers one that the electronics in it gave out and one that I use now-but I'm looking at getting a new machine-more suited to quilting I made several on the brother that isn't working and struggle to do so with the one that I'm now using-not enough distance between the needle and body of the machine.

As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

I am a young 23 year old quilter and just a year and half ago got my very own brand NEW from the store sewing machine! All of my other machines I had from the age of 10 on were just hand me downs because mom or grandma upgraded to bigger and better! I have a Brother SQ 9000! It was a cheap light weight machine from wal-mart but i would recommend it to anyone! It is easy to haul around which I am a group quilter! I like to sew around friends and family!

I have a BabyLock Sofia 2... Love it!!
It's my first sewing machine (just bought it in April). It's been great for quilting so far, but I've only done one baby quilt and one lap quilt. I don't think I could do much bigger than that.

I would LOVE one of the bigger machines, but that will be years down the line before I'm ready to fork out that much $$$ on one!

My go to machine is a Bernina 1030. I love the knee lift, but I would like a prettier blanket stitch.
I also have a feather weight, just because every quilter should have one!
emoticon
I also have a Elna Stella which is even lighter than a featherweight. I loaned it to my daughter and it didn't come back in good condition so I need to send it to a good repair man.
And one Christmas about 10 years ago, my DH went to my Aunt's house and brought back my grandmother's treadle machine as a surprise gift! WOW, it's the best gift I've ever gotten. I got a new belt and the it works great!
My sister has our Mom's Singer 201, the machine we both learned to sew on. It has the best stitch ever. I made my first quilt on it and machine quilted it through 5 layers of batting!!! I was 17 and wanted it warm!!!!!

I loved the Singers I had before the Janome.

It is too difficult to find anyone to service them and the new ones aren't the same.

My older Bernina started out as on the business end of a sewing career...my Mother in law and Sister in law both did massive amounts of sewing...SIL started a business when she was 17 making doll clothes for Cabbage Patch dolls..then began making the dolls, then went to modular style knit clothing...and later into selling quilting fabrics. They both made tons of clothing as well. I don't know who originally had my machine...I do know it was passed to another sil who returned it when she divorced from the family. It has been such a good workhorse machine.

I own an Elna, the cheapest of the brand. It's not computerized and around 9 years old. I can't justify buying a more expensive machine, since I mainly sew straight lines in making my quilts. My sister has a really fancy Bernina. She's a seamstress, though and does her machine proud. My Elna and I are very happy together!

I don't know the age of my older Bernina..but it sounds like some of you have more elderly machines than mine.

I also have one other one given to me a year or so ago when Bernina 1 had a problem caused by my dog sleeping on the foot pedal..some of you will remember THAT discussion! Don't know the brand or model of that one. I have never used it.

My "original" machine was bought at the Hudson's Bay Store (in Canada) when I got married in '67. I think it is a "Baycrest", but when I took it in for service recently, the guy said it had been made by Janome.
I leave that one at the summer cabin.

Then I got a "new" Kenmore open arm machine in '79.
That was to facilitate patching the worn-out knees of jeans worn my my 3 boys.
Don't know who made it.
Quilting was not yet in the picture!!!

Almost 4 yrs ago I wanted a light-weight machine for when I go elsewhere to sew/quilt.
It was a cheap one from Walmart which is light because it is all plastic!!!
It is a Singer --- but Singer is NOT who/what it used to be! (As with so many companies.)
So many gals in my guild have computer machines that are worth more than the average car.
I'm scared to go looking at machines in case I, too, fall in love with one ! ! !

I love your description of your machine, BERNERQUILTS, which you called "elderly"!!!
I guess that my "original" two are also!!!

I have a Pfaff 7570, a Babylock and an old J.C. Penny that sews anything. I keep it around for heavy things that I don't want to put through my other machines. I also have a Babylock serger.

I have a Husquarna Viking Topaz 30. I have not done any quilting on it yet, but I have done a lot of embroidery. My quilts have so far been hand pieced and hand quilted, but the next will be done on the machine, at least the piecing. I still might quilt by hand.
