Thanks for posting the question, and for all the answers! I needed this right now. I need to go back to my Spark book and re-read chapter 4 I think!

As for the mirrors--that's fun. I know you can buy markers that are specially made to write on glass--I have friends who leave messages for their kids this way. : )

I just added a new phrase to my mirror

"I am a Force to be reckoned with!"

to which my brother corrected my spelling... Maybe I shouldn't write on the mirror before that first cup of coffee.

I just finished a great book related to this topic: "Finding the Deep River Within" by Abby Seixas. She explains eight practices, with exercises to help with each, to help one accept, care for, and spiritually and emotionally nourish oneself: taking "time-in", making boundaries, befriending feelings, taming self-expectations, practicing presence and doing something you love.

I highly recommend the book.

My simplest and most effective:

I tell myself: I am not my body.

Just an easy reminder that my physical appearance has nothing to do with "who" I am or my ability to love or be honestly loved, offer kindness to strangers, help others or even pay my bills.
So, I am not my body. I am exactly what I make of this day, whether anyone sees me or not.

PSSN4FITNESS that is a great idea... I am definitely going to do that. I just finished reading Chapter 4 of the Spark, and I love IT! I am re-reading because I have fought back from major illness coupled with depression triggered by the medication. Re-learning to be the motivator I once was is much more difficult than I thought, but I WILL DO IT! I love having affirmations, once did this on those sticky notes that are lined 4x6 sheets, and just kept adding a new sheet to the bottom... foldedit up in an accordion style, it was a riot. I have no idea where it went to, but I need to start it again. I used a lot of Joel Osteen's messages to get many of the positive affirmations on my list. He certainly is a motivator.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Great thread! I love these ideas ladies. I would add that something that really changed my entire orientation was doing a vision statement for myself. I researched online a bunch of questions to ask yourself in order to determine your motivations and core values.

Once I realigned articulated what I wanted for my life, I found that the self-love came through that process. I really feel more at peace.

The backstory to why that is on my mirror is I was reading a book by Patricia Briggs and the girl, Anna, Makes a comment in latin that translates to "I sometimes want to take over small european countries"

And the day I read that I felt so good that I thought I could walk into Lictenstine and take over.

I will often make a list of things I have accomplished (not related to weight loss)..graduated college, got a real job, bought a house etc. When I realize what it takes to those things, I realize that I must be a better person than I sometimes give myself credit for. Then I turn that around and use it as motivation to overcome a few more pounds.

I know it sounds strange... but I get a boost when I do things by myself... go to a movie, get a coffee and sit there and drink it with no book, no work... just sit back and enjoy (also works with dinner). There is something incredibly powerful about sitting back and enjoying life and being the mysterious woman who is just enjoying life. I always feel great after doing that and everything bad just seems to fade into the background.

I have affirmations written on my mirror in the bathroom in lip liner and I read them while I'm brushing my teeth in the morning.

I am Powerful

I am Beautiful

(my favorite)
I am capible of taking over a small European country!

When I have to clean the upstairs bathroom cause guests are coming over I just wash it off and start over. I keep debating buying dry errase markers for this purpose.

I love the idea of getting up and putting makeup on and your favorite clothing. There's just something about it that makes you smile! So glad that it helped for you.

Write affirmations on index cards and keep them where you can read them (at least 3 times a day) often. Things like "I am beautiful." or "I am strong."
