The new place is definitely liveable now, though there are still some boxes to unpack, mostly books. I have managed to lose 9 pounds since I started again (a while ago) and at least I have maintained the weight I lost while we were moving.

I am involved in a year long experience with Freedom in Christ Ministries International. It's a program where you watch videos put out by FICM International and discuss with an online group weekly. It's been very good, and helpful in pointing out ways that I have been using food as an idol. I will share insights as I go along.

Still packing. And taking stuff to Salvation Army or throwing it away. We have a china cabinet with broken doors on the bottom that we may or may not move. Apparently china cabinets are hard to sell second hand now. I guess nobody displays their china anymore...if they even have china. I don't. Our china cabinet is part bookshelf, tea storage and curio cabinet!

On Friday Fritz and I decided to move into a larger townhouse in our neighborhood. Looking forward to the new digs, but not looking forward to packing and moving and cleaning!

Back at it! I have been eating a lot of monkfruit and erythritol sweeteners and I think it's giving me major gas pains! I am just drinking fluids today, avoiding those sweeteners completely.

Hi Bonnie! I haven't been checking the team page much, which would be easier to do if it was on the app, but it isn't. I even asked SparkPeople that question directly, thinking the same thing as you did, that they would phase out the teams. They said they aren't; that it just isn't possible to put everything on the app.

I do like the app, though. It's much more convenient for entering food, but it has it's limitations, such as not being able to substitute on the meal plans, which is something I like a lot about SparkPeople. That is, the versatility of the meal plans. And the meal plans themselves! I need lots of guidance!

Let me know how you're doing after your doctor's appointments. Such a strange time we're living in. I recently watched a video series from Great Courses about the Black Death. We're certainly not at that point, thank the Lord!

Claire, I just noticed that today when I went to check in on my phone. - I couldn't find the teams anywhere! I wonder too if they will phase the teams out. It would be a shame, but it does seem like there are usually only a small amount of people who regularly check in on there.

Still I hope not! it is so much nicer to belong to a smaller roup thatn the huge base of people who are SP members.

I'm doing good - just had semi-annual blood work done and #s are good. The heart doc gave me "good news" based on the #s, but in reality I still have a lot of angina - more because of the stress and heat/humidity right now during the summer months. I see my PCP tomorrow and then the Orthopedic doc on Tuesday. It's that time of year fr the regular check ups. I'll let you know how things go.

This isn't a check in necessarily. Perhaps I should put it in another topic. Anyway, I can't say this for sure, but because the SparkPeople mobile app doesn't have any connection to the Teams, I wonder if there is less of an emphasis on the teams, and if they will eventually phase them out. I know they phased out the "class teams:" the team that you used to be automatically put on as you entered SparkPeople. I was supposed to take on another class team, but got the notice that they were discontinuing those teams. It did make sense. I hardly ever visited my class team, and in the first class team I led, people would be active for about a month, and then they dropped off.

I am doing so much better! I can't put my finger on why, except that I have learned a lot in the past years. And maybe just wanting to stay healthy during this pandemic. I don't know.

I hope you all are doing well. I know you're busy. Praying for you all!

I think my last entry about emotional eating set me off on a sidetrack, as I have been really bad about my eating recently.

Last night, though, I determined to get back onboard. I refuse to buy new clothes that are bigger. Besides, I can't try any clothes on in the store anyway!

I got really frustrated this afternoon and did some "emotional eating." However, I logged it, so my motivation is still pretty high! And, if I eat vegetable soup for dinner tonight, I will be able to keep the calories within limits. So, yay!

Rainy day here, so there probably won't be a "day off walk."

I didn't get dyeing done yesterday, but I did make the dye premix, so I am ready when that time comes, hopefully tomorrow, though it's supposed to be very cold. I did do a few washouts and I will mail those to the recipients tomorrow. I dyed some light cotton toweling in the favorite colors of some children connected with our church so they can use them as makeshift masks.

Good for you, Judy! It's good to get moving again, and I'm so glad you're feeling great!

I actually got up and exercised today, and I even stayed within calorie limits yesterday! Amazing!

Today was a "stay at home" day. I know we should be doing that all the time, but food trucks (and going to church to take part in our live stream) has me going out a lot. Tomorrow is another food truck day, so I will be busy. Again. Not as much as on Mondays, though, as we give a lot of our portion to another church that day.

Hope everyone is doing okay!

I had forgotten about that, as it was a very short lived thing. Feeling GREAT! Started a new 30 minute yoga class this morning...heard some “snap, crackle & pops” and I know I challenged a few new muscles.

Great to hear from you, Claire!! Hope you are staying safe and healthy!! 😁

Thanks for the update, Judy! Bonnie and I have both been really busy and not very good at keeping up here. However, because I have gained (a lot!) of weight, I really have to stick to it with SparkPeople. I need the guidance of the nutrition plans as I tend to get easily sidetracked.

I hope you are feeling better!

I went beyond my weight goal almost a year ago, and over the holidays I put about 5 back on. Im not very motivated to drop that 5, but want to avoid that number growing. So, Im being mindful of what Im doing, and struggle most in the late evening. I have the tools to change those habits - Ive just gotten lazy. emoticon

I am VERY much looking forward to Spring coming!! emoticon

I ate WAY TOO MUCH sugar yesterday. I don't know why I think I can eat stuff like that and not influence my health! So, for a while, I'm going to steer clear of the sugary stuff. I don't want to eliminate it entirely (it's so good!) but I do need to be mindful of what I eat.

Off to a good start today, though. I exercised and had a healthy breakfast.

Zero exercise for me too. Had a long nap! But have stuck to my calorie target. Well done for not overeating at a buffet lunch! Sooo tempting to try everything! Tomorrow I really should find some time for the exercise bike. No excuses, it's right here in the sitting room!

I didn't exercise this morning because I had an all day meeting. I haven't gotten to the point where I can go to the gym before a long day. I could get on my exercise bike though. I have no excuse not to!

Anyway, we always have lunch at our meeting and I didn't overeat!

Hi Claire! I keep seeing Noom adverts but I have never signed up for it. I have another free app on my phone that has helped me lose about 13lb since the start of September. My key motivation is that my knees are SO much less painful with less weight. So I'm not really tempted to eat too much bad stuff.

A nutritionist told me that sweet things, especially at breakfast time, set you off wanting more sugary stuff. So a glass of lemon water first thing, and a savory breakfast like eggs, instead of sweet oatmeal, helps you delay the first time you have sugar in the day.

That must have been the only good thing to come from the nutritionist visit!! The diet sheet she gave me was SOO strict, I only stuck to it for 3 days, and I got so tired from lack of carbs! So just by logging my food and exercise - have been faithfully doing that since Sept 4th - is keeping me on track. For some reason the SP app wouldn't load on my phone so I am using another one.

Hope you girls are all doing well. There have been awful transport strikes in Paris, which dampened everyone's spirits over Christmas and new year. The trains are running again, but the underlying issues have not been resolved.
Love to all,
Larousse

One of the reasons I was frustrated with Noom is that I was paying money to do the same thing I can do on SparkPeople. Why did I ever think that any paid program would make a difference? I experienced the same thing with Weight Watchers.

So here's what I have to do: remember that everything has consequences. If I eat those Poptarts (yes, Poptarts. I had to force myself to write that down), I will gain weight. Not because of the Poptarts themselves, but because it opens a Pandora's Box. I eat one sweet thing, then I either eat another sweet thing or I have to have something salty.

One thing I really like about SparkPeople is the meal plans, and the interchangeable way you can substitute one item for another. At least, you can do that on the full website. You can't on the app. Anyway, when I follow that plan, I feel full and I still lose weight. I know I'm getting the right amount of nutrients and if I feel hungry, I can use mind tricks or change the dialogue I have in my mind about the food. Or I can pray. What a thought! I can pray! Why do I forget that?

Anyway, I am going about things today the way I should, so...yay!

So, I had a goal to lose 5 pounds in January, but considering there are only 6 days left in January, I don't think that will happen. But I won't be discouraged. However, with an Emmaus Walk coming up in February for which I am on the team, I doubt I will lose 5 pounds that month either. However, I am a Logistics person, so I will be doing a LOT of walking! Not much sleeping, but a lot of walking!

I wrote in my planner that my goal for January is to lose 5 pounds. I've heard it said that if you write a goal down, in pen and ink, not just on a computer, you are more likely to achieve it. So I intend to achieve this small goal!

Hello everyone! For the past year, I have been on Noom. It was useful in some ways, especially the personal, regular feedback from a coach. However, after losing 10 pounds, then gaining it back, I realized that there is nothing on Noom that isn't on SparkPeople...and it's free! In fact, in many ways SparkPeople is better.

The year wasn't a complete loss. I did learn a few things, especially how to look at food. Calorie density was a somewhat new concept. However, I suspect that SparkPeople has all the articles I read and more!

So, I'm back for good!

Checking in today...finally. How many times have I said that? Don't tell me. Honestly, you all are so forgiving that even if you did keep track (and I'm certain you didn't) that you would say it makes no difference at all!

Anyway, I am committed to tracking all my food this week. Yesterday I was doing so well...then the evening came and I think I ate almost as many calories as I did during the day--probably 2/3rds of them! Eeek! This is why logging food is so important. You don't realize how many calories you've eaten until you log it, which is a sobering reminder.

So, on track today! Hope you are all doing well!

Finally home from rehab - 20 days in all. It was good to be there, but I was homesick. While there I was being treated or lymphadema in my legs and have seen much improvement. But the problem is that now that i am mone, there is no lymphadema therapist closeby to do the treatents and therapy. The therapist showed Dan how to wrap mh legs and Dan is doing his best, but it isn't working too well. Please pray we can find a certified lymphadema therapist close by covered by insurance that can help see me. Since I don't believe in coincidence, i have to trust that God ordained this treatment for me and he has a purpose for it - IT has reduced the swelling in my legs by almost half so far and i don't want to lose that which has been gained! ;ease pray..

Just checking in to let you all know that I hhad my hip surgery this week on Monday and am doing well. I am in Rehab for a few days - at least i hope it;s only a few days. I am getting up and moving around, walking the tiniest bit to transfer from char to chair to bed, I am doing PT so I can soon put more weight on my leg. Prayers are definitely appreciated!

Hi Claire and Larousse and everyone! Claire, I was wondering how you fared with this week's thunder storms. Did you have any tornadoes near you? We had large hail here , but Dan put the cars in the garage so we fared ok. No tornadoes directly near us, but there were some spotted in neighboring communities.Praying you stay safe.

We had a lovely memorial day - Gabby, Gracie and their mama were here. Cammie helped Dan put together my new bed. Godblessed me and I purchased an adjustable bed - not a hospital one. It is wonderful! But I have a little trouble getting in and out of it so it's a good thing I have time to practice. Someone suggested I purchase satin sheets so I can slide right across the bed - with my luck when I put the head of the bed up I would slide right off the bottom with those hi gloss sheets LOL!

I got the official results of the heart cath back and all is normal. Unfortunately the pesky microvascular angina I have doesn't show up on the cath because the affected arteries are way too small to see into. But still, my cardiologist was pleased with the results and gave me the official final clearance I need for the surgery.

I have almost 15 freezer meals now in the freezer. Still have a few tomake this week and of course the cleaning, but I hope to be done by Monday. They I can take a few weeks "vacation" to recover. and concentrate only on the recoverytime. I think I am runnning on adrenalin right now.......LOL!

Hello all! It is so good to read your replies. I really need to get back to checking in regularly with SparkPeople, especially here! You all are very motivating to me. Bonnie, you get more done even in preparation for surgery (which means you are physically limited) than I get done in a good day. What a model of perseverance!

Larousse, good to hear from you! I am glad for your occasional updates and questions/comments on Facebook and on Messenger, but as I said in the previous paragraph, it is good for me to get back into the swing of things on SparkPeople.

I have been sick lately, which is very discouraging as I have not been sick for a year and a half! At least, not more than a day. Anyway, this cold/allergy/flu, I don't know what it is, has been lingering for two weeks. I did see the doctor early on and it wasn't Strep (which has been going around a lot lately here), so I just have to muddle through.

Larousse, I think of you often when I hear news about Brexit, and also in the current European Parliament elections. How will Brexit affect you?

Surgery is one week away. I'm going to be finishing up my planned freezer meals and then cleaning the house so all is in readiness. I still have 2 doctor visits to be ultimately cleared for surgery - Tomorrow I see the cardiologist who will go over the results of the cath 2 weeks ago and will give his final ok, and then on Thursday, I see the orthopedic surgeion one last time for a general physical and final ok! I know they still can postpone the surgery if I come down with a cold or other problem before the 3rd of June, but I am trusting the Lord for good health until the day of my hip surgery.

I'm still feeling upbeat about things and working hard to be ready . Your continued prayers are much appreciated - and I am trusting the Lord that this surgery will help me to be able to be mobile again -with less dependence on assistive devices like the walker and crutches..

Praying for you all today.

Surgery minus 2 weeks and counting! This past week I did a little bit of what I wanted to do before surgery. I did some more cleaning in the spare room, I am in the process of ordering my new adjjstable bed, Dan set up my MIL's old lift chair in the LR to help me get up out of the recliner easier right now and for a little while after the surgery to comply with the hip precautions

My freezer is defrosted and I have begun making freezer meals - so far have 2 tuna burger TV dinners, some breaded ribs and my turkey is thawing in the fridge to cook on Monday to make some soup, turkey meals and some ground turkey to be made into turkey salad for sandwiches. I am making progress - but have lots of dr. appointments in the next 2 weeks. It will go fast! God is good!

Have a good weekend and a great day in God;s house tomorrow girls!

Larousse, so good to hear about Simon and Daniel! But what a sad thing about Notre Dame. Good for you at making some changes like low cal snacks and walking. If your FitBit could talk, it would congratulate you too LOL!

I had help over the weekend to defrost my freezer and it looks great now - really empty. LOL! So now I begin the job of filling it with freezer meals so that I won't have to cook for a week or two after I get home from the hospital after my surgery. Still working on cleaning the rest of the house and lining up some projects to work on that will keep me busy while I recuperate.

Have a good weekend girls! Sending love and hugs.

Hello all! Sorry to have been away so long. I assumed the board had gone dormant because I wasn't receiving emails. Also need to change my password!
Bonnie, that's great news about your surgery! I keep you in my prayers twice a week when I go to aqua gym. My dad had hip surgery years ago, and was able to get up and about quite soon afterwards.
I have had quite a few medical check ups lately; work Dr, ob/gyn and family Dr, and they all noticed my weight is up quite a bit since my last visit. Snacking when I'm bored seems to be the culprit. So I am trying to keep to lo-cal snacks like cucumber and plain yogurt rather than cookies!
Last weekend we visited Simon in Grenoble, and over the 2 days I walked over 17 miles! Daniel wanted to see a kayak-polo contest that was at a water park way out of town. Simon had checked out how to get there, but missed a detail - the bus did not operate at weekends! So we had about 40 minutes' walk to get there. My fitbit must have thought it had been adopted by some fit stranger!
Simon is now in London, starting a 3-month internship. And Daniel has his end of middle school exams in just 6 weeks! So tension is building at our house, he really needs to get serious about his studies.
It was a shock, and very sad about Notre Dame, but I was quite surprised at the heaps of money that were donated so quickly. Apparently they managed to save the structure just in time; another 30 minutes of fire and it would have been unsalvageable. Very mysterious, and just before Easter!
Hope you are all well!
Love from Larousse xx

Good morning Claire, I'm at the cabin this morning and learning to use my phone to answer my emails. My hip surgery is June 3rd not sure what time yet. I alternate between uncertainty and eagerness to get it done with because the pain is so bad. But I do know things are in God's hand I'm practicing my exercises and getting ready. it's hard to answer messages from this phone but I'll try my best to keep up and keep everyone informed. Will be home tomorrow night so I'll write more later.

Bonnie! Thank you so much for keeping this group going! I have definitely been AWOL from SparkPeople, but it's time to get back to it.

I have learned a lot in the time that I have been away. I am learning to not let food be the thing I go to when frustrated, bored, worried, etc. I am also learning how to know when I am really hungry, not just emotionally hungry.

So, Bonnie, I have only read your last post here, but I will be praying for you. I am glad you have a plan and are using your past experience to help with what you will be facing next. When is your hip replacement surgery?

Yesterday I had my hip replacement educational class - got to learn all about the proccess from what to do before the surgery to what to expect afterwards. OVERWHELMING! I found myself in tears today , aftaid I woulnd't be able to do this.. But after talking out loud to the Lord for several hours this morning, I calmed down enough to start making a daily plan of what to do and how to do it from exercises to practical things I can do here at home and even practicing the things I learned from my broken leg experience like how to transfer from a chair to bed, etc, but this time using the left leg as the dominant one instead of the right one so I won't undo the surgery afterwards by moving the wrong way.. Prayers appreciated.

Well, it's official - I am in the process of preparing for a hip replacement. Huge sigh! It will be a relief to finally get some relief from the pain of this past year, but I am not excited about another major surgery - the third one in the last 3 years. But I am already taking positive steps to help myself get ready. I don't have a date yet - still waiting to find out who will do the surgery and where - our local hospital can do it, but I am a higher risk patient because of my heart issues and weight so the local doctor wants to be sure I will get the best possible care. I have an appointment with my heart doctor on Tuesday for surgery clearance and if he signs off on me, we will be able to do it locally. If not, I will have to have it done in a bigger hospital farther from home. So that is one prayer request. i would prefer to be here. But already God has been at aork odrering the events of my life and working out all the concerns for this coming surgery - Our God is faithful and trustworthy - hallelujah! I will let you all know more as I find out.

Stopping by to pray for all to have a wonderful Resurrection Sunday tomorrow!

God has been doing some wonderful things for me! My first luncheon as a speaker was last Saturday, the 13th and all went so well. I am so thrilled that God is going to allow me to share my story, hopefully in many places. It will be a little difficult to go to so many luncheons though - I will have to work out a plan so I don't overeat.

Larousse, I was so heart broken to hear abo t Notre Dame Catedral! such frightening things happening in our world. I hope you and your family are doing well.

OH MY GOODNESS! I can't believe it's almost been amonth since I checked in here - sooooooo sorry girls! Get out the wet noodles.

I have some great news! I was approved to be a Stonecroft Speaker and am scheduled for my first official talk on April 13! In the meantime, I am going to speak (not Stonecroft affiliated) at my daughter's church on the 30 of March. I don't know if you gals are familiar with Stonecroft Women's Connections - it started in the 1930s by a woman named Helen Duff Baugh. She and her husband were concerned about the Spiritual lives of their co-worers and decided to begin inviting them out to eat and sharing their testimonies with them. From there it became the Christian Business and Professional Women's and couples groups. About 10 years later, they began groups for homemakers which are now called the Stonecroft Christian Women's Connections.I will get to travel to various groups and share my testimony and am looking forward to it. Who knew that at 66 the Lord would open up this kind of door for me! PTL!

Just checking in today. I did pretty well today with portion sizes and healthy eating, not as many carbs and not such large portions.I still have to log my food to see how I did calorie wise.

Did you know doing laundry can be hazardous to your health??? Yesterday I was carrying a basket of laundry into the kitchen from the laundry room when my walker kicked me in the shin and gave me a nice little gash on my left leg. LOL! It's still black and blue, but it does look a lot better today.

Hope all of you are doing well and keeping up with your healthy lifestyle changes today!

Hi Clair - Good for you at the healthier eating! We love soup here too - it's so much easier to get the veggies each day with soup.Even the cream soups are a healthy meal when I uselots of veggies and a skim milk base thickened with a little cornstarch / flour and extra mashed potato flakes. They still taste great. Besides, I never could make a small batch of soup so we get two or three meals from a batch and I don't have to cook as much. emoticon Win-Win!

But I'm struggling with eating less. I'm not as active these days, and even though I eat fairly healthy meals, I really need to cut the portions down since I can't get around because of the arthritis in the hip. It has been very painful even to do the PT exercises. I can barely stand or sit without pain. Once I am up and walking a bit, it isn't too bad, but I think there is a hip replacement in my future.... Ugh.

I haven't been on as much either, lots of family drama with Cammie - her physical health is deteriorating and she is on family medical leave from work and may need to quit entirely because of severe rhumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. Please pray she can get some help - child support for the girls and disability for her. God is beginning to change things for her for the better and she has some support that she didn't have before - believe it or not, through Children and Youth Services. They are helping her to get child support from the girls father and helping her to look for a different job where she may not have to be on her feet as much. They are also helping in other good ways. I can already see a difference in her - less depression and more hope. Praise God, She has been so heavy on my heart and I have felt so helpless because I couldn't help her much at all. God is good!

Well, I need to see if I can get some sleep. When I have to get up at night to go to the bathroom, it takse so much time and energy to do it with my physical limitations that I am wide awake afterwards for awhile.
Praying for you Claire as well as all my PW friends. emoticon

Hey y'all! We haven't been very active on here, I can see. I am, obviously, just as guilty!

So, hoping you all get this message and that you are sparking new and exciting things this year! I'm eating much better since the first of the year--more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. And soup. Lots of soup!

Well girls, praise the Lord - we ditched our landline phone, effective Friday. We have been paying for our own phone for the last 10 years since we moved here to our church in PA and have changed the plan several times to try to save $$$ as prices have been going up over the years - but never the phone #. I don't know how our church folks will respond, but hopefully it will be a good transition. We both have only cell phones for personal use now. WE've been trying to be sure everyone knows - by putting the #s in the bulletin and sending out texts and phone calls, but there will always be some who don't pay attention.

But what a difference! The house is so quiet now! The last few years the call volume has increased horribly - especially with telemarketers and most recently medicare insurance brokers who call several times a day, even after we tell them we are ok with the plans we have. I have felt flustered and harrassed - I didn't even answer the calls when I didn't know the number. I figured since 95% of the calls were junk calls, why should I continue to pay for that line? So we made the switch. Now I'm working on alerting Doctors, and other important people with the number.

I do enjoy all the features on the smart phone - unlimited talk and text. WooHoo! I love that I was able to add the Spark People ap to the phone too! I've been starting to track my food again and right away I am more conscious of what I put in my mouth. So hopefully my weight loss will be on better track as well. Yay me!

The biggest change is that we are saving over $100 per month with this change which will go toward insurance premiums and other increasing bills. It will help a lot.

Have any of you made changes since the new year began? I'd love to hear what you're doing to help yourself get on track!

Thank you Claire! Dan is on the mend but still so very tired. IT has been a rough time for him this week - he slept in every day and even napped, but still hasn't gotten his strength back like he used to have.

I still have a touch of laryngitis - and it's been over 3 weeks now! But yes the testimony went well. They had a working microphone this time, even though it was a corded one. I was able to speak ok, more than a croak, but not full voice yet. I was also able to stand for the entire talk, 30 minutes plus to stand at the door and greet everyone as they left the building. It was a great thing for me. I was able to give the talk with my notes - more of an outline only so that I didn't "read" it - that was what was worrying me because it;s been so long since I've preached or spoken like that .. But it was good. MowI just have to give the live talk to the trainer and I will be approved. It was so nice to do it in my homw group first - both to minister to them and to practice! Yay! They are all very supportive.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I'm stopping by with 2 prayer requests today.
1. Dan has Bronchitis today and they are keeping an eye on him for pheumonia. So he probably won't preach tomorrow - though it may be hard to keep him home.

2. I am the speaker for our Tuesday Ladies' Luncheon. Please pray that my voice recovers from this terrible laryngitis and that the microphone will work so I don't have to strain my voice.

I'll let you know how things go this week!

Great job with the green smoothie, Claire! The event you attended with your sister sounds like soo much fun That's a big family. When Allissa's kiddos grow up, and start having children, that will bea large event when they get together I can only imagine what it will be like. I had thetwo tornadoes from 9/23 through 9/26. Wouldn't you know it , they were sick with coughs. and they gladly shared with me. i ended up at urgent care on Saturday with a nasty sore throat and cough myself. Thankfully it's :just a cold, but I am having trouble shaking it. They came back last night to stay till Tuesday afternoon because Day care is closed on New Year's Day. So prayers are needed. They are still having cold issues and I'm still trying to get over mine. At least the laryngitis is getting better so I can talk a little..

When i weighed in at the doctor's office, it was the same as last time so at least i know I didn't gain over Christmas,

I am really trying to be better about eating, or rather, what I eat! Tonight I made myself a green smoothie with kale, yogurt, orange juice and several blackberries. It was pretty good, and I am glad that I didn't get into the chocolates for the second time today!

Bonnie, how are you doing with the twin tornadoes today? Love your description!

On Friday my sister, who had just been discharged from the hospital on Christmas day, was able to come from Cincinnati to Dayton for an annual event that she has attended for many, many years. It wasn't always in Dayton, it used to be in Cincinnati, but it's an annual family event for a friend of hers, and with one of the families having 50 cousins, they outgrew where they had been holding the event. Now it's hosted by family member who lives in Dayton and has a big house.

Anyway, it's really pretty cool that for I don't know how long, this family has gotten together around Christmas every year and have something they call songfest. They have some food and then they go through this booklet and singing all these Christmas songs. Everybody gets involved from the little kids to the older grandparents. And my sister, even though she's not in this family, has been invited to this song fest and has enjoyed it for many years. Because it was moved to Dayton last year she invited me and then stayed overnight with me. Last year we had snow! A lot of snow! Fortunately this year it wasn't like that! I was very glad that she was able to attend and had no problem climbing the stairs at our house and slept very well on our air mattress. So I was really relieved.

Of course, while I was there, I probably ate 5 too many cookies...

I didn't realize it was 10 days. Ack! But i'm not surprised - with babysitting Gabby and Gracie my littlw twin tornadoes, and church goings on and personal Christmas prep,, I barely had time to turn around. I am still moving very slowly because of a worsening in my hip joint and a lot of additional pain. So it takes me much longer to do anything anyway and I'm still doing PT, although it is more massage, ultrasound and ice therapy when I go because of the pain.

I have to start "clean up " duty to get rid of the unwanted pounds and unhealthy foods here in the house today, though I didn't gain a lot, my weight has bounced quite a bit and I can tell those days when I am carrying a lot of fluid from bad eating. So it's back to basics for me too to. To top it off, I got a bad case of laryngitis which I hope doesn't turn into strep from babysitting sick/coughing grandkiddos since the 21st. emoticon

Anyway, I hope all of you gals had a wonderful Christmas and are doing well now! Praying for us all. LOL!

We're all busy; no one has posted here for over 10 days! But, it is Christmastime, so that probably says a lot.

I have not been very good with healthy eating, and somewhat hit or miss with exercise and, not surprisingly, I have gained weight. I know I have to do something NOW.

So, here I go again, knowing that I am capable to do that which is set before me because I am not alone!

It's a busy time of year. I can barely keep my head above water trying to get it all done! But being busy is a good thing - at least it keeps me out of the cookie jar. LOL! I'm still doing PT. I was doing really well, then I had a flare up of bursitis in my right hip which sent pain down my leg. I almost didint' go to PT after it started, but decided to go anyway. I'm glad I did - it was a good choice to keep going. The therapists have been massaging the hip and using ultrasound as well as ice therapy and it is starting to feel so much better. The one tech , Beth, seems to think it will calm down and it will be stronger than ever so I'm praying for that because it is discouraging right now.

Thinking of y o all and praying!

Oh Larousse! I love the photos! You and Daniel look so good. It's something I would enjoy doing, though I'd have to be steadier on my feet without the crutches than I am now LOL! Have fun with this!

It's just for Christmas, thank goodness because I couldn't do it all year round! When we signed up I didn't think it would take up so much time. We have missed 3 Sundays at church because of the rehearsals, and another 2 with the performances, and have also missed the church Christmas bazaar to raise money for Burkina Faso. And that was just for a part as an extra! The real actors have had rehearsals every week since September.

There are 700 people involved, including about 20 people making the costumes, lighting guys, carpenters, people making crpes and mulled wine.... and all of that as volunteers.

They will probably do it again next year though. They started a similar project in a stately home the other side of Paris, and that has been running for 3 years now, all the volunteers are still so enthusiastic!

Here is a link to the site of the chateau giving you all the details about it.
The show starts outside where they open the gates to show a full choir singing carols, all dressed in 19th century costumes, a horse and cart, delivery lads bringing boxes of wine, and snow! Then the audience goes downstairs and through the service tunnel (all the pipes and electric meters have been hidden by wooden casing) to the servants' quarters and they peek in the kitchens, where they are baking real cakes in a tiny oven to give off an authentic smell. (The cast get a few tiny bites of cake to cheer them up between performances!)
The audience file into the servants' quarters; my part is, as an English nanny, to rush in and retrieve the 2 children of the Countess who have sneaked into the servants' quarters.
Then the audience go upstairs into 2 sitting rooms. They are all wearing colored capes (color coded into 3 groups so they stay together) and the cast welcome them like expected guests!
There are several different rooms where they play out a scene from the chateau's history, including a guillotine scene with some revolutionaries! And at the end, the audience go to the ballroom on the top floor, where there is a magnificent Christmas tree, people waltzing to music from the Nutcracker ballet, and at the end they go down the stairs and out again, with the cast waving goodbye from the top of the stairs, and they take back their capes and can get some mulled wine and a crpe.

Daniel has a pretty boring role as a porter in the service tunnel, doing 17k steps carrying cases and trays. I am proud of him because he was expecting a better part, but they didn't have a role for a lad his age, except being a porter. A lot of the team dropped out when they realized how boring and tiring it was, but he has carried on regardless and is making the best of it.
My part is quite fun, but it is exhausting having a 4-hour shift with only a few minutes' break between each scene, and I have to wait in the corridor outside the servants' quarters waiting for my cue to rush in and scold the children for running away.
They run the show with 3 teams in 3 shifts, 9-1, 1.30-5.30 and 6-10pm. We are afternoon shift. The evening shift is also on duty Friday evening so have 3 performances!
And they used burkas as a base for the servants' costumes, adding collars and cuffs, with lace trimmings. We also have to share the costumes - my dress is used by an evening servant who works outside, so it gets a bit dusty. I got the dust off with a baby wipe, and the aprons are laundered as needed! Daniel wears a porter's coat which looks fairly modern.
I will do another post with some pictures :)

Larousse, CONGRATS to Simon on his BA! He must be feeling pretty good about that! And to you too on all those Christmas bargains. I can't do Black Friday - still on crutches so it is hard to be out and about for so long at a time. But i do some shopping online. I always admire those brave souls who do go out though. LOL!

I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more about your show at the Chateau. it sounds wonderful and so much fun. What part did you get to play?

Cammie is still not doing well. And when i make suggestions that she move home to make things easier for us both - as well as to provide better stability and support for the girls,, she has a thousand excuses. Thanks for your prayers - keep it up please, it is helping a lot.

I'm getting ready to have two workshops with my church ladies - the one next week will be a card making one. I already have some kits made up for them to make and take home. Then the following week we will be making cookies to distribute to our neighbors and shut ins. Each gal who participates will also get a nice tray of cookies which she can use as a gift or use for their own family to eat. We are a motley group of ladies - one doesn't have an oven so she can't bake, another doesn't have any money to purchase cookie baking supplies, another one is sick often she doesn't feel much like doing things by herself, and another one is so starved for Christian fellowship as well as not being able to get around like me. LOL! But we always do laugh when we get together so it will be fun and who know what the Lord will bring out of it?

Hi girls, good to see you! Bonnie, that's great that your speaking engagements are starting. I was thinking about that the other day and wondering if you had got any news.
Claire, great news from your boys! I'm sure the defense will go well, if Wes already has a good mark for the thesis. Nice to hear that Will has a job that enables him to still be at Whizz kids. Will be praying for him to get one that puts his skills to use.

Simon has at last got his B.A. certificate through, with an overall "Good" mark. It's a double bachelor's in International Political Science. And he has recently passed the theory for his driving test, so will soon start the practical lessons.

Bonnie, I'm guessing that more babysitting means that Cammie is still not doing so well? Will be keeping her in my prayers.

Been very busy over here. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but unfortunately Black Friday has become a huge thing in Europe. It so happened that I spent the weekend in Lille with my best friend from primary years (our annual Christmas market trip), over BF weekend, so we got lots of bargains! That girl just loves to shop.
Last weekend, Daniel & I were in the show at our local chateau. Can't remember if I told you about that? At our local 17th century chateau, they put a show on that was set in the 1900s, Downton Abbey era. The audience comes through in groups of 30 people, through the service tunnel and the servants' quarters, up to the salons and dining rooms, and in each room a 10 minute scene is played out by actors and extras.
Will continue in another post.... :D

Good for you Claire! You are doing great to stay in the calorie limits and to make a plan to make better snack/lunch choices. Keep it up!

LOL! No, Claire. I don't do it on purpose. It seems like my left and right hands don't work well in tandem on the computer, especially when I start typing quickly. I never seem to be able to capitalize the I's and in the beginning of a sentence, the first 2 letters are often capitalized. I'm just too lazy to go back and change everything. It does bug me though when it happens.

Every day is a new day, right? So yesterday I was able to stay within calorie limits. Today is Whiz Kids day, however, and a lot more challenging for eating. Unfortunately, I don't have good choices at home to pack a lunch. Note to self: Clean refrigerator and get stuff to pack for lunches on the go!

Totally an aside, Bonnie: I noticed you didn't capitalize the personal pronoun "I" except at the beginning of a sentence. Are you doing that purposely to de-emphasize yourself? I think about how "I" is capitalized in English, but in German the first person pronoun "ich" is not capitalized.

Claire - I don't know whether i get lazy about losing weight or distracted. LOL! I vascillate about 10 pounds up and down and am half-heartedly trying because I know I need to in order to help my joints feel better. Also because I want to look better as I start to speak for Stonecroft. I don't know if I told you gals, my first time to share my testimony will be at our group's January 8th meeting. It's kind of neat because i will be with people I feel comfortable with and i have been in front of that group so many times in other capacities. But it will still be a challenge. I hope it will lead to more speaking engagements and i especially hope it will touch women's hearts and help them to want to begin a relationship with the Lord. I have the written testimony essentially approved and have to do the live presentation to be officially on board as a speaker - so the presentation for my group will be a practice run to presenting it to the speaker trainer. LOL! This is one time being a PW does help - so many of us have done speaking before.

LOL! That's funny about your Bazaar neighbor. Yes, card making can be an expensive hobby, but also a good one. It does lift my spirits. Glad to hear Will found a job - that will surely help, but i know what you mean about his needing a better job. i will continue to pray for himas well. CONGRATS to Wes on his Thesis and i wish him well as he prepares for the defense. I relelber how difficult it was for our SIL when he did it a few years ago. He is teaching as an adjunct professor at 2 colleges now. Praying for God's strength and help for Sara too.

And as always praying for you!

Oh! I don't even want to check to see how long it's been since I checked in here! No excuse. If I'm being honest, it's because I get lazy about losing weight and getting fit, and I suspect that particular clause is an oxymoron. I can't be lazy about losing weight and getting fit!

Anyway, I will be praying specifically, Bonnie, about your joint pain. So discouraging! But our God is a God of encouragement, and He will send you what you need. And I know one thing that lifts your spirits is your card making! An aside, I was selling tie-dye at a Bazaar recently and the woman next to me was selling Thirty-One to support her card making habit! Haha! Anyway, I will check out the pics you posted, being a crazy cat lady myself!

So, Will found a job! It's in food service, though, so he's not ecstatic about it. It's at a new concept store that Dunkin, formerly Dunkin Donuts, is opening. The hours aren't terrible (except for sometimes having to be there at 4 in the morning), and he is able to get Mondays and Tuesdays off so he can help with Whiz Kids and Whiz Kids Unplugged (Unplugged is the middle school ministry). However, he hasn't stopped looking for another job, and in fact has an interview today. Praying God's best for him!

And, Wes finished his thesis (yay!) and got feedback from his professor that it is good (yay, yay!). He still has the defense, but he is optimistic. Now he is job hunting and doing some translation for his professor. I am hoping that because he is a native English speaker that it will help him find a position. Berlin is a big city, so I hope that will help, too.

Sara is either en route or in India right now for a symposium of sorts. I would appreciate prayer for her; she was sick last week and then very tired so her spirits are down.

It's good to see you all! I hope to be more consistent--and not lazy! emoticon

Time got away from me again! Here it is, DEcember 1, and it's been over 2 weeks since i checked in here! For those in the US, how was your Thanksgiving holiday? Did you stay on track? holiday. For you Larousse, I hope you are also staying on track. Fall and winter mean more indoor time, for some of us, more sitting instead of moving.

Well, my PT was extended to December 14. I would love to keep doing it, but I think the shot is wearing off and my joint is really starting to pain me again.. I have to keep up the stretching exercises, but unfortunately, I have to back off the walking they were doing without crutches with me. I am bummed out, but still trusting the Lord that I will walk unassisted in the future.

At least the exercises have strengthened my core and my miscles in my legs so that I am doing much better. I am trying to watch what I eat to get serious about losing weight in case I need to have a hip replacement - we shall see. With all the babysitting i have done though, I have really been feeling tired. Thankfully things will soon slow down.

I'm going to post a few card pics on the Craft thread - they are pictures of cards I'm making for my SIL who is a crazy cat lady uf you wabt to check them out. Have a blessed weekend!

I had a good but busy weekend with the little ones. But I did end up getting a touch of smething - I hope it was food related because I would hate to take them home and have them get sick for their mom. Mom already has enough to contend with with her job , her health and being single. I can't visit long here today 0 time to get up and start getting them ready to go back home today.... oh well. All good things must come to an end.

Have a good day and a great week girls - praising the Lord for you all!

I had a good check up at the OBGYN yesterday - the procedure he did for the incontinence has been working well praise the Lord. Then last night we took a rainy trip to pick up the grandbabies for the weekend. Please pray for Cammie and the girls - there is a problem with the current day care and CAmmie is looking for a new one without too much success - she found one and then found out they are going out of business at the end of this month. So frustrating and because I live 75 miles away I can't just hop in the car and go to her house to help every day.

I'm doing well in PT - there is a temporary PT gal there because the regular one is on maternity leave right now. This new gal is very good and tough - i come home feeling like I have had a hard workout - but in the two times i have seen her, I have noticed a good improvement - if i have her for a few more weeks, I may end up walking so much better and maybe I won't need both crutches any more! Woo Hoo!

Have a great day gals and praying for you all as we prepare for the big holiday season in our churches.

Claire, I hope you are doing well with your goals. Good to see yo here today.

The last week has been so busy! Our church has been getting ready for a rummage sale which started today. Lot of work! I started baking last week and made pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, oatmeal cookies and cinnamon rolls. Whew! I made one item each day and froze it till the sale today. Over half of what I made for today is already gone. But it was hard on me to do so much baking. I had a very hard time resisting the temptatin to taste and sample. Honestly, I did gain a little because of it. But the good news is that after the sale is overm I won't bake for a long time again. And if I don't make it I don't eat it. . I will say that the church made a good amount for missions today because of the food items. WE still have tomorrow to go yet so hopefully we will continue to do well with the sale

I am still doing PT and it is so much better since I got the shot in my hip joint about a month ago. That shot still continues to give relief for which I am so grateful!

Thanksgiving is coming up next month and my granddaughters want to prepare the feast - so excited to pass the food prep to an upcoming generation. emoticon

Thank you Claire for the kind words about the books. I appreciate your encouragement and hope that being on the speaking circuit will help.

Praying for you gals and sending lots of love and hugs! You all are the greatest!.

Oh! So much to respond to!

First, I need to see if I can exchange the shirt. I will try it on again first. I totally agree about keeping something until you can fit into it again. Actually, since I have been getting the Stitch Fixes, I have been good about getting rid of as many items as I bought. One was a dress I knew I wouldn't fit in for a while. When I stopped in at the Salvation Army store yesterday, I saw it on their rack! Haha!

Larousse, I have been to Köln a couple times. The cathedral is amazing, and really breathtaking as you come out of the train station. When we visited there the first time, we climbed up to the towers with my daughter-in-law's mother. Spectacular view, though I admit to being a little challenged as far as the height goes! But I have a picture to prove I was there!

Bonnie: I will look up the tours you are talking about. I hope you sell a lot of books; I really enjoyed reading them, and I know others will, too!

Claire, keep doing what you're doing with the walking and meal planning, About the blouse, you need to do what motivates you, but I must confess I have lots of those blouses in the back of my closet that still won't fit me even though I've lost some weight. I've lost #s but my body shape is changing because I'm shrinking in height so my body is still the same size as it used to be - just rearranged. Ugh!

Girls, , how interesting to hear about churches and ministering in other places. The church "tax" is really interesting, but probably wouldn't work in my denomination. If people were getting taxed, it would just add another reason to pull up stakes and change churches when things didn't go their way. LOL!

Larousse, I love hearing about Daniel's adventures jaunting about Europe. What an education he is getting. Hope your cold is gone soon. Keep doing what you are doing with Aquagym. I haven't been able to get back to the pool for a few months now because of more medical issues, but thankfully i am doing physical therapy which is helping to tone and strengthen my muscles.

The speaking will be fun. The trainer has been working with me for a year now to hone my testimony so it is interesting and compelling with a clear presentation of the Salvation message which is the focus of Stonecroft "reaching women where they are, as they are." Claire, if you hear advertisements of "Women's Connections" luncheons, it's a good chance it is a Stonecroft function. The speakers usually go out mid-week once a month on a "circuit" of 3-4 group meetings to cut down on travel expenses and receive an honorarium for each meeting. I would always give the same talk which makes that part a little easier for me. LOL! I will also be able to sell my books which would be an added blessing for me. I am still waiting for them to schedule the live presentation so I can be approved and get to work. I will definitly keep you gals in the loop.

Well, time to get busy - lots to do as I leave tomorrow to see Allissa and her brood for an overnight stay. I love going out there. Sending you all hugs and prayers to stay motivated and encouraged in your Sparking!

Claire, I think you should send the top back and go up a size. There are no prizes for what size you are, the main thing is to be comfortable. I find tops are often cut strangely and have tight sleeves, and if you don't feel comfortable, the top will go to the back of the closet and never get worn. I do quite a lot of arm exercises at aqua gym, but despite the muscle, I have saggy upper arms that I know will never go away. (the British call it "bingo wings"). When I lose weight, it goes mostly from my hips and legs, never from my midriff or chest or arms or tummy! Well done with your meal planning!

Our church is a Baptist church, planted by American missionaries in the 1970s. We now have a pastor who is from Madagascar, and since then a lot of new people have arrived, some from new churches, some who have literally come in off the street, and we have a lot of baptisms. We do not have a system of state churches; France is very strictly "secular" and it is forbidden to talk about one's faith in a school, and it is frowned upon in the workplace too.

Daniel has gone to Cologne, (Kln) which is north west Germany, at about the same level as Brussels, Belgium. In fact they drive across Belgium to get there. It's not far from Aachen. Last time they went on a trip 2 years ago, they stopped off to see Aachen cathedral. His German teacher did her studies there, so she has a lot of contacts in Kln. He will be home tomorrow night at 11pm! It's about a 5 hour drive from our suburb.

I have been doing WAY too much snacking since I got this cold. It's a lot better now but I haven't quite finished my anti biotics. Will be glad to get back to normal!

Bonnie, those speaking invitations sound very exciting! Let us know when and where you will be speaking!

Love to you all, Larousse xx

Bonnie: So sorry to hear about Daisy, though, as you said, she is no longer in pain, and it does give you the freedom to travel with your Stonecroft speaking opportunities. How exciting! I'd love to hear more about it.

Larousse: I am also glad to see you! I'm also glad to hear of Rob's preaching opportunities, but sorry to hear you have been sick! I would love to hear more about your church. I am very interested in churches in Europe. I know that in Germany, the Lutheran church is the state supported church, and also that there are a lot of Catholic churches. I also know that there is a tax if you go to church, which is then applied to the salaries of the pastors, though I don't know if that is only the Lutheran church or if it applies to Catholic churches as well. I know it doesn't affect the free churches, though. My daughter-in-law's family goes to a Vineyard church in Aachen, and their pastor left her pension in the Lutheran church to become a free church pastor. Also, I am interested in where in Germany Daniel went with his middle school.

Today was a so-so day as far as food goes. I did get a walk in this afternoon with our administrative assistant (we walk twice a week). Today, though, I tried on a top I got in the mail and the sleeves are a little tight. I won't send it back though, because I would have to go up a size and I refuse to do that! So now I'm REALLY going to be serious about watching what I eat and being intentional about exercise. To that end, I already went through the nutrition section for tomorrow and have planned my meals for the day. A plan is always good!

Larousse, So good to see you !

I do plan to take time off from having a dog - especially as the Stonecroft speaking opprtunity is panning out for me to travel a bit and to give my testimony at the monthly luncheons. But maybe someday I would want another dog because they are such an emotional support for me. Daisy definitely filled the role of a therapy dog for me at a time in my life when I needed her the most.

Sounds like you've been very busy. The church retreat sounds wonderful . What a good problem to have in your church - not enough seats on a Sunday morning! We have a long way to go to fill the building up like that. LOL!

It's definitely hard to do the empty nest thing....even if it;s only for a short period of time. Glad to hear Rob is doing well with his preaching though. That helps. Hope you feel better soon with the antibiotics.

Bonnie, so sorry to hear about Daisy. I'm glad she went peacefully and surrounded with love, and that you were able to keep her to a ripe old age. I'm sure you'll miss her. But meanwhile enjoy the freedom that comes from not having pets to worry about! My sister had a 1-year gap between when her old sick dog finally died, and getting a new pet - it meant she could go away for weekends or stay over somewhere on a whim!
Glad you are having a trip coming up to celebrate a birthday! By the way how is your eldest granddaughter doing with her young man?

Claire, I'm glad you have good news from Wes and Sara. And that's great that Will is going to re-read his master's thesis! I love it when brothers help each other out like that. I will pray for Will to get the job that the Lord has lined up, and that it will show up soon!! Is he still helping out at Whizz kids? Glad to hear that Fritz is doing better after his health scare.

We had some lovely weekends lately, first at a wedding, and then last weekend was our church retreat. There were 105 of us! We discussed how to increase volume in the church, either by running 2 services on Sunday morning, and/or buying 2 commercial properties that have come on the market right next to the church! A hairdresser and a nutritionist have both gone out of business! Please pray that we will take the right decision. At the moment, there are very few spare seats, even on a normal Sunday.
Daniel is in Germany with his middle school this week. They arrived safely and all is going well, but it's strange for Rob and I to be home alone! getting ready for empty nest time... eek!
He is doing well with his preaching, and one of his churches just doubled the amount they give him for a sermon, telling him he is "by far the best" of their visiting preachers!

I have had a bad cold for nearly 3 weeks, which turned into sinusitis and I had to have anti biotics. So I find I have been eating more to combat the tiredness! Aqua gym tonight though!

Love to all from Larousse xx

Claire, Definitely praying for Will to find the job God has for him and for Wes's Master's thesis. I remember how nerve wracking that process can be. My S-I-L finished his doctorate just a few years ago. So I definitely will be praying!

Daisy passed quietly and I feel sad, but relieved that she's no longer suffering in pain. I will miss her, but I also know that if we really want another dog, there are so many who desperately need to be rescued. We will see what happens.

Today is our monthly luncheon - a fun day and at the end of the week I will go to Allissa's house to help celebrate our second oldest granddaughter's birthday. They just grow up too fast.

Praying for you as you work on diet and exercise, Claire! Keep up the good things you ae doing!

Bonnie: I'm so sorry to hear about your furry friend. Our little Oui (the black cat) is sitting next to me as I type, so I understand the importance of our animals.

I am doing pretty well with exercise, and trying to do better today with eating. Skyped with Wes and Sara yesterday; they seem to be doing fine. Wes is diligently working on his master's thesis; he sent a draft to Will on Saturday (that was a goal set for him by Will!) and he has plans for the week. He has to have it in before the end of the month, so pray for him to finish!

Also, please pray for Will to find a job! And if I may be so bold, not just any job, but God's choice for him! Thank you ladies!

I have been at the cabin for a few days while Dan was at a minister;s conference about an hour away. It has been a good time - just Daisy and me and my card making supplies. I have to make some Christmas cards for a fund raiser for our Christian Women's group - Country Fair meeting where we have a Christmas sale. It has been fun to be a hermit for awhile - but when I thought my phone died and i would have to get a new one, I almost panicked because I had no access to my phone nimbers and no outside "connections." LOL! - how much we depend on out communication devices. Whew, thankfully I guess I accidentally turned it off and didn't realize it so all was well....

I was spoiling the dog while here - she is very sick and will need to be put down, but being here at the cabin allowed me to pay a lot of attention to her to kind of prepare me for life without daisy. She has kidney disease and is losing ground. It was a good time though and i eel like I can let her go now. She has been my companion through a lot of thigs the last 4 1/2 years incliding being laid up with the broken leg and has helped me battle the depression during the recovery time so she has been a definite gift from God to us. I will miss her badly!

The hip shot is losing it's effectiveness - not totally, but the outside of the hoint is starting to hurt again. Thankfully not the worst pain which was in the groin area - thaat seems to be doing well. Prais eGod for that - I can do steps!

Well, best get packing so we can leave shortly.

Have a good day gals.

Enjoy Whiz kids and all your activities Claire - glad to hear you are doing better with exercise and eating and especially glad to hear Fritz is making changes and doing better too! That was quite a scare for you both.

Thank you, Bonnie! He is doing well with the meds and changing some eating habits.

I haven't checked in for a few days, but then, it was Sunday, then the start of Whiz Kids Unplugged (Middle school), the regular Whiz Kids, then the busy catch up Wednesday! I'm doing ok exercising, and better about eating habits. Not where I want to be, but better.

Going to go feed the cats and get to bed early tonight, for once ! Haha

Claire - how frightening! I know Gerd feels much like the heart issues because I have both. So if his symptoms return in the future, he should definitely return to the ER to have them checked out. You both are in my prayers.

Oh my, Bonnie! I remember when Fritz got hives from tetracycline. He was miserable! I'm glad you're doing better, though.

I forgot to tell you all about the experience we had on Saturday night. Fritz went to bed early as is his usual routine. but he came down after an hour complaining that he was having a pain in his chest. We thought it was maybe something that antacid could take care of, so he took that and went back to bed but it didn't help. By 11 we were at the emergency room. It turns out he has GERD, so it's good to know that it's that and not a heart issue. But we played hooky from church that day! It was so strange to not be in church...even if we did get home at 4 a.m.!

And, as you can see from the time of the posting of this message, I am up too late!

Claire, I usually need to eat something in the evenings or I don't sleep well. , but I try to plan for healthy snacks that are low in calories, Maybe a meat and cheese roll up or popcorn (individual serve bags, a few saltines with a dab of peanut butter or some fruit. It helps to preplan though or it's easy to get carried away. And wouldn't you know it, the most juicy burger or pizza ads are on in the evenings. I think you're right - we should all just go to bed earlier or turn of the TV. LOL! Glad to hear Whiz Kids is doing so well this new school year.

I got up this morning with a terrible case of hives! I was supposed to check in with the orthopedic doctor to let him know how my hip was doing since the injection,. I was concerned that the hives were a result of the hip shot. Thankfully they didn't think so - They said an allergic reaction should show up way earlier after the shot. Whew! So now I have to find the culprit - I think I know though. I think it's one of my other meds which might have interracted with the meds he used for the shot. I don't have to take that one tonight, but I will find out tomorow or the next day if it was that other med. Thankfully, i quickly took a benedryl and all was well!

Heaven knows I need accountability! Haha.

I hope you're all doing well. Whiz Kids went well yesterday--at least it seemed to from my perspective. I was pretty good with my eating until just before bed. I think if I had gone to bed earlier I wouldn't have been so "hungry!"
