The best things about being child free.....
sleep!
sex!
Getting to go out for movies, dinner, concerts, etc.
travelling!
having a career
having time for ourselves

I work as a nanny, and while I love kids, I don't want any for myself. Hell, I've raised other peoples kids for 6 years and they're finally at a point where we can converse freely--why would I want to start over?! My best friend had a baby last year and desperately tried to change my mind...all those stories about the eewie gooey grossness of babies did not help one bit. Actually, after far too many people started asking me about kids I sent out a stern message about not wanting kids and to stop asking. That helped :D

I know now that I know nothing.

love all the responses.....

my friends sister in law just had ANOTHER baby...and she showed me pictures. I just don't get it. 30 photos (the same day!) of a swollen little red baby. I just don't understand how it's so cute.

I'm just fine with my lifestyle & my animals. I couldn't possibly imagine what it would be like to throw something that would require pretty much 100% of your time and energy.. not for me.

Not having to worry about the state of the environment in (50, 100, etc) years due to human climate-destroying activity. In fact, I'd say that the severity of droughts and famines, global warming, dwindling energy supplies and even the bewildering pace of technology (can't keep up with it myself let alone make sure my kid is techno-savvy!) are all my reasons for not wanting to reproduce.

That and the fact that people lose all sense of decency and boundaries when in proximity to a pregnant woman. I'd be fined left, right and center for assault for slapping so many indecent grabby hands and asserting my disgust with folk's inappropriate body-appraising comments.

Not being the one who is always complaining how much work it is having kids, how much time they consume, how much they cost (or how much it cost to get pregnant), and how annoying and terrible it is that everything isn't "kid friendly". Inever want to be that person who says that stuff.

Don't get me wron, I used to be a pediatriac RN, I just don't need my own. Really, will the world population be in danger if i do not reproduce? Oh yeah and I don't have to worry about my stuff getting destroyed.

Hi I'm new to the team!

I LOVE NOT HAVING KIDS!!!!!! No emoticon no emoticon no emoticon !!!

I also know that with my luck.... I'd end up with twins!!!! emoticon = nightmare!

Not to mention.... EVERY WOMEN IN MY FAMILY WITH KIDS GAINED A TON OF WEIGHT AND CANNOT GET IT OFF!!!! Literally, some even run religiously and everything and still never look right. Do I even need to mention the dreaded "long boobs" as I like to call them!!!!

I love:
picking up and going when I please
getting unconditional love from my dog
blaming only myself for weight gain
watching R rated movies without thinking about it
letting the "F-bomb" come out of my mouth if I feel like it
not listening to babble that I don't understand and pretending to be interested
the list goes on and on

I particularly love when people ask when I'm going to have one! Ummmm never. This is always followed up with... well, you never know or never say never! Why must you wish this screaming curse on me???!!!!

Definitely the freedom. I love being able to pick up and go when I want to.

I also love that the only messes I have to clean are my own!

I love to be able to go play beach volleyball for four hours on Sunday morning - my husband can feed himself and does not need diapers, so does my dog.
I love to be able to go out at night and not having to pay a babysitter.
I love to have a clean, tidy and quiet house.
I like to have my 9 hours of sleep without interruptions.
I love that I have so many hobbies and interests, and that my husband and I talk about politics, real estate, books, and not dirty diapers (well, we do occasionally talk about the dog having diarrea...)
I love that I did not have to go through the trauma of childbirth (sorry, many people would hate me for this, but it is the truth, childbirth is not pretty, despite of what you hear. It is blood, pain, feces, torn skin. It is the most violent and brutal of the functions of the human body. It is just not for everybody. Definitely not for me.)
Most of all, I like to be free. Last year I took off with my husband and we went backpacking through Asia for five weeks. We organized the trip in barely three weeks. And we want to do something that crazy again.

I agree with each of these. It feels so great to be childfree. The dog, cats and rats are more than enough for hubby and me.

I love not stressing over children.
I love going to bed and getting up whenever I want.
I don't always have to watch my language at home.
Adult things are easier to do.
We can be lazy if we want.
The animals don't have to be jealous.
And that we can keep pets without worrying about kids having allergies.

There are other reasons, but you're all doing a good job covering them.

I so love this team already. It's so nice to be around people who understand!

I second what someone else said above: ALL OF THE ABOVE. I never wanted to be a mother and am so grateful to not be bothered with all of that crap.

Children are VERY overrated and I can't figure out the world's fascination with them. I mostly find them annoying.

Here's something to make all of you laugh: once a friend of mine went to a restaurant and he asked the hostess for the "no screaming children section" when he was asked about a seating preference. I so want to do that if I could find the right opportunity.

All of the above!!! I nanny and am an auntie so I get my fair share of children...and I love giving them back at the end of the day. My cats are my 'kids' and I am free to pursue my artistic tendencies as I will. I would not be able to handle scheduling my day around children (unless I'm being paid, that is :))

Hmmm...everything.

Probably my favorites are being able to sleep in whenever I want.

Not having to make sure they are home from school, or check up on where they are and what they are doing and who they are with.

Not ever having to worry about getting a babysitter if we want to go out.

I don't have to be an example to anyone, I eat when ever and were ever I want, I sleep in, can take any job I want because I don't have to worry about being home for the children.

I can go on and on, but what it means the most to me is FREEDOM!!!!!! and this world is already over populated and we are running low on resources, so why add to the problem.

I have two cats and a dog and my husband and I am quite content. My husband and I travel allot since we have more money and freedom without kids, yup traveling is MY baby emoticon

I have dogs instead of kids...they allow me to give the maternal affection without paying the price. I can leave them behind to go on vacation; they don't require a college fund (that's going to me!); they don't have many expenses; they don't mouth off or borrow the car...and if they get knocked up I can sell their babies!

No whining or crying or Elmo or Barney.
No diapers or toys or babysitters to spend money on or have cancel at the last minute.
Freedom!!
You can live wherever you want and not have to limit yourself to where the best school districts are.
You can carry on adult conversations.
You're not adding to the over population of the world.
Married life is so much easier without adding in kids.
It certainly has its financial perks!
No making yourself crazy at Christmas trying to get your hands on the new hottest toy of the minute that every child is expecting to get from Santa and whose entire life will be ruined if they don't get one too.

The list is endless!!

Being able to do adult activities like long hikes or snowboarding/skiing. Oh sure, the shorties can ski but kids get interesting when they focus less on themselves and show curiosity towards others.

Oh heck, that goes for adults too. Sparkpeople ROCKS. We get to hear from LOTS of people and that's awesome.

There's some good ones already listed, but I'll try my hand at it:

I have an old, fragile house that I can fill with as many tiny, swallowable, kitschy, delicate items as my wife will allow.

When I wake up late, the only PB&J sandwich I have to grab on the way out the door is the one for me.

I get to use the money I save on not buying diapers and Hannah Montana tickets to spend great weekends away with my wife, renovate our house, and blow however I see fit!

Just a few of the literally hundreds my wife and I have listed over the years. :)

Oh boy. There is just too much to mention!

I have QUIET mornings. Right now it is quiet and I am enjoying a cup of coffee. I really value silence.

I've been laid off recently. I don't have to worry about another mouth to feed. For me and my S.O. (both of us have just recently had neck surgeries) we only have to worry about our own. emoticon

There's so much. I just never wanted kids, ever. So I guess sometimes I take my CF life for granted. Thanks for the reminder to be grateful of what I don't have. Brats!

I love having my dogs and cats rather than children. The dogs can go in their crate when we want to go out as long as we're not gone longer than 8 hours. If we're going to be gone that long we'll either provide for them to be outside, or have my grandparents (and neighbors) let them out at least once. :)

That and they can run around naked and barefoot! No clothes and diappers and shoes to buy. Some foods, toys, and treats and that's it. :)

Plus it's nice to have the house to ourselves. I just got a copper IUD for birthcontrol because I can't take the hormones and was tired of condoms. :P I didn't like not being in control of my birth control. Now we can be more spontaneous and that's definitely nice.

You don't have to arrange for a babysitter just to go to a movie. Plus having kids nowadays means you aren't allowed to discipline them which leads to unruley brats that no one else wants to be around. :P

I like playing with my nephew for a bit and giving him back. :) Coming home to a clean house without the added child mess. The puppy shredding her toys is enough. ;)

And I am cranky without 8-9 hours of sleep. I value my beauty sleep immensely!!!! The dogs sometimes need to go out in the middle of the night once and that's bad enough. Having a baby or child constantly bugging me or needing me in the middle of the night?? No way!

Besides, we're barely able to afford ourselves and the pets, let alone all the extra costs of children/childcare/schools/stuff etc. :)

I love to play with my niece and my friend's daughter and I love to be able to give them back to their moms after a couple of hours. Having my home be calm and quiet. Being a little selfish - not having to worry about someone else
