Made with an hour to closing at farmer's market in my town. Kettle corn for the grandkids. From the organic vendors some mixed lettuce, white turnips (grandkids love them), French radishes, flat parsley plant, and tray of Brandwine tomatoes (3) From local maple farm a bag each of maple covered walnuts and almonds. Jug of apple cider for grandkids and five meals from favorite food truck. I actually get at least 2 out of each box due to being so much to them.
One was a wonderfully seasoned roasted potatoes, navy beans, and corn with an egg on top.

When at farmer's market my favorite food truck was there. Even though all of the food is not organic,, most of it is donated from the other vendors. Clean sausage, eggs, and veggies. I bought six meals this time. Either freeze them or use during the week.....especially when coming up here to daughter's. lol

Thawed out some of the ground pork and chops that bought from a local farm selling at my hometown's Farmers Market. So blessed that ours is held all year. Vendor a local farm that has been selling for years. All their animals are raised using clean methods. I get their pork due to those two items are not salted. I season the bulk ground pork using herbs to have my own no salt sausage patties..1

Finally got around to fixing that roast. Was back at sister's today so brother in law decided to teach me how to use an instant pot. He was surprised I didnt want veggies in it. I prefer to roast root veggies....not have them cooked in a liquid. Liked it so much on way back to grandkids, stopped at the cattle farm. Bought another roast and my non homogenized skim milk was in stock. Have a wee bit of tulip pasta left so may cook that tomorrow in broth for supper.

Came back to GKs on Thurs. Had half Sat and Sun. till evening, so went to sister that lives in next town to spend some time with her. We were doing errands on Sun and not far from the farm. Called to see if may be open. He said no but was working outside on truck. Told me to come on over to let me in store. The owners are so cotton pickin' sweet. Had some treats this time so bought family some fry pies and the GKs some chocolate milk. It is non homogenized like my skim milk . Saw a small roast , so bought it to try as well as sweet Italian sausage. Think it may to salty for me though. Oh well, SnL will like it. Only veggie left was a butternut. I roasted it today along with other veggies.

Went back to grandkids to be there for about a week. Came home this evening. Stopped to do the Parent Routine before got here. Will have 5 days due to it's daughter's Kelly Week. Hope to get a major changed done in dining room. Stopped at park farm. Out of produce but still selling eggs. Was at Destiny farm Friday. So bought my non homogenized skim milk. First time I have seen hotdogs there. Even though their beef, it still had alot of salt listed so passed it up. Did get some ground beef for receipes and flat iron to make slow cooker fajitas.Have frozen peppers had bought from farmer's market. Had told organic vendor, if he would pick every pepper left, I would buy them......and I did! LOL

@KATHRYNGC Mine is 21 grain with seeds, too. I have done some with crust on and some with crust off, and hubby and I like the crumbs both ways. I dry them by first laying slices of bread on a sheet pan and putting them in the oven...just to make sure our dog does not decide to check them out and so no fly could get on them. I leave the oven off, and it takes a few days to get the whole slices nice and dry. Then I put them into my food processor (or can use blender) and process them to as fine or coarse as I want them.
I have been doing this for several years now and like our homemade crumbs much better than the ones from the store. The crumbs seem to give a better texture and taste than purchased ones. I do sometimes add a bit of seasoning to the crumbs but usually just use them plain.

PBVHCCVH: How do you dry the bread to make crumbs? Whole slices on sheets in the air, or in oven (off or on....temp?). Crust on or off? Mind is 21grain with seeds. Would that matter?

@KATHRYNGC It is impossible to find them near us, too. We buy the 21 multigrain bread to use fresh, but we also get an extra loaf occasionally just for drying for breadcrumbs. It works great!

I am still having a hard time to get broth to taste right that is made from the juice of chicken roasted in a crock pot. Even added a wee bit of salt this time. Recipe states to fill the crock pot up with water. I wonder if there's not enough juice in proportion to water added. A small crock pot would have less water added to same amount of juice in a large crock pot thus more water being added. Think next time make it, will measure juice and use equal amount of water.

Well, tried a flank steak in another recipe from same book. Still using a crock pot to cook it. This time is to be shredded when done. The meat is rubbed with seasonings, then placed into crock pot with 2 T of low soy sauce. Chopped peppers are placed on top. I added onions and used 5 cups of veggies. It is used as fajitas. Took it to be used at the campsite. Even brother in law liked it. This recipe will be used a wee bit. LOL

Flank steak was just OK. Very frustrated in cutting into slices for stir fry. Was at the farm near my daughter's today so asked owner what going on. He said needed a very sharp knife and showed how to cut with the grain. However, he only grills them. Will trying another recipe with a smaller steak. So nice to support local farmers as well as being able to get the individual advice. They even order an extra half gallon of the non homogenized skim milk to set back for me until I can get there. This farm is such a blessing to me.

Went with a friend to an popular Italian store in Akron. She wanted specialty cheeses for a recipe. Since I had been looking thru some new ones to try in the book, "100 Days of Real Food",thought to check store over. I needed hard Parmesan for some of them, I bought a small piece. Found out the price wasn't small. LOL Sure hope I like this new recipe. LOL In another store, came across an organic teriyaki sauce/marinade . Have a flank steak in the sauce overnight to try another recipe. Sure hope that turns out good.!

How exciting! Is the new home bigger or smaller. The patio and flowers just make it all the more beautiful. City or country? I really need to start purging around my house due to not sure what I want to do with it. So you have the keys to it all ready? This is just awesome!

Visited a Farmer's Market on the square where my sister lives. They followed the same plan as the one in my town. Not as many vendors , though, as have been in the past. We stopped at another saw along the way. Even though face masks were worn, no other practices were being followed. Am going to be with grandkids this weekend thinking it would be nice to take them. The more I think it over, we are not going. May pack a picnic basket and walked to the field in back of their development.

The Farmer's Market has been moved to outside now in town. They follow an approved plan by the city and health dept. It works very well but socializing is really downplayed. A section of the street is blocked off so that a loop walk is done. Markers, masks, gloves, and grippers are used by vendors using containers for payment by one person while other gets purchase. With produce starting to show up, it is so nice to be getting more selection of the organic ones.

Our local Farmer's Market is fantastic! Its held inside during Oct - May 1. When virus affected , director planned with city to have a drive-thru outside in church's parking lot. Entered one end with vendors on left. Container held out for payment while another loaded purchase into open back. Now it is downtown for the summer with a one way walk thru making a loop. Six foot markers were in front of vendors. It is so amazing and blest having this group of people working together in all ways to keep providing fresh , as well as clean, food. My latest purchase was a hardy kiwi vine plant. Cant wait until able to pick them off and enjoy eating.

Went organic 15 yrs ago. I buy/prepare my food separate from DH when home and at Daughter's when there. She started buying some organic after having kids. Finds some produce/ meat at Costco. I purchase my food from a local farm near here town as well as Farmers market when I am at mine. A pound of ground beef will give me one to three meals. Am so blessed that am able to do this. Get non homogenized milk, cheese with lower salt, even chops/grounded pork without salt. Granted it's hit/miss on the meat sometimes due to " process time". I cook for all but mine is done separately.

Yes! I also hate how it's so much cheaper to eat bad than it is to eat clean! emoticon

I'm not a huge organic food person, but I do see the value in it. I just can't afford to eat that way consistently. When the eggs and dairy are limited, I try to have a clean protein source available, like whey protein (without added sugars and junk) so I can make smoothies.

For me, the beauty of eating clean is the simplicity of it. No crazy recipes required. I can take a baked potato or yam and make it a meal by adding beans, salsa, veggies, etc.

These crazy times will pass! emoticon

Anyone else finding "eating clean" is a bit more difficult lately? I go to the store -- very few people there, so no problem social distancing-- and although there are no severe shortages, I do find that organic food is getting difficult to find. Fresh fruits and vegetables are still okay to find, although in smaller quantities. Butter and eggs are difficult. We are limited to 1 doz. eggs, and haven't seen much organic, cage free, etc., only "regular" white eggs and those are about double the price they usually were. And only the most expensive brands of butter are available at times, the rest being cleared out. Also, usually a third to half of the cheeses are out of stock.

I have plenty of meat, and fish in the freezer, so no problem there, just the fresh products and dairy I am having difficulty getting, not milk, but the rest of the dairy products. So, having to adjust my cooking a bit. Would love to order delivery or carry out from some of the local restaurants to give them business, but I have to be gluten free, and none of the ones close by have any gluten free items.

Doesn't appear to be a shortage of junk food, though.

Have done a wee bit of doors closing and new doors opening. Since August have been staying with daughter from one to two weeks at a time to take care of home and my 3 grandchildren so parents can work. Most times I get to come to my house for about 36 hours between Sat and Sun, so dont get a lot done at my house. Errands and social time seems to be all I get done. LOL

P TIGER: I agree that whole foods are those mostly not processed. I have no desire to make bread so get the organic stuff at grocery. Once in awhile , when at a farmers market, may buy a multi grain from a vendor. I do feel organic is better in way of avoiding pesticide damage to our bodies. However, have read that nutritional wise it is alittle above non organic. Over the last 2 years, I have been putting time aside so that I can batch cook my meals to freeze and help prevent getting the processed quick stuff
I am not strongly computer knowledge. Don't know how to cut and paste. But can sympathize about being frustrated with it not working for you and not knowing how to fix. Good luck, hon, with it.
Well, gotta go. Need to get contacts out and drops need to be in for 30 minutes with eyes being used. So I read a book to wind down. Nite.

Hi there.
I want to say that though I've used SparksPeople for years, my notifications that anyone has posted on one of my teams stopped coming in an email to me. I had too many. Then I just wanted to restrict which ones to stop. But then no matter that the box below any of my entry messages remains checked off (that I DO want notices when anyone replies in the thread), that it never happens anymore.

So my only way of seeing any team posts is to choose to go to that team site and look at the threads I want to open.

With that all spelled out, I have no real idea about getting this team more interactive. I don't know what it is for other than to eat what I will call Whole Foods rather than any prepared or stored variety which isn't fresh (and perhaps even exclusively organic).

I just reviewed for how long POSITIVE-PAULA had the NO JUNK FOOD going on.....15 MORE DAYS! The other day I actually was throwing in the towel! Headed to town and had the signal to turn left onto the road to get to Taco Bell. There was an empty lot at the intersection on the left. I Duke of Hazzard a left turn into the lot to turn around and go out back on my road to head to the Hike n Bike trail near my home to go for a walk. Thank God I had a granola bar and bottle water in the van. I was so aggravated I could have chewed skunk and spit nails!

For those of you that joined the NO JUNK FOOD CHALLENGE, how are you doing? This one has caused me a few frustrating moments. When plans had been changed quickly for my day, I caught myself to NOT rush to the drive thru. Reminded me to keep something on hand in the van for these situations. Wanted a rootbeer with a certain sandwich but didn't. Yesterday while visiting grandkids, ice cream truck came by. Bought everyone a treat but me. Went inside to eat a cup of greek yogurt. Will admit that I got a wee bit grumpy thinking this is for the birds! Then I told myself that at the end of this my body will be adapting. I will be use to it and when decide to treat myself a wee bit , it will be OK cause I will know I can do it sensibly. I just have to keep repeating that to myself till the end, LOL

You have one too. Will head back home after daughter gets up for the day. Shes on her second 12hr of 12 on, 12 off, 12on. Son in law will be in at midnight from his 12hr, then back up for another. I usually get the baby during the night so J. can get some sleep. Then tend to all 3 GK after he leaves and untill shes up. Usually walk to park Sun. morning so house would be quiet for her. This is most of my weekends. Love it!

Yes we are all ready for them to come and do the final measure up tomorrow afternoon.

We are fine for meals my mother lives next door so we can eat with her or use her cook top and oven as necessary and we have a portable grill and BBQ anyhow so all good and a bit of fun for a wee bit like you say.

Have an extra awesome Sunday all emoticon

Today have to make preparations for the new kitchen bench top. They are coming sometime Monday afternoon to measure up and require the bench top to be off and out of the way.

When Ian get's home from work at lunch time (he was asked to work this morning as they are busy) he and my brother will take the old bench top off.

So have some prep work to do for that and bring in a fold up table we have to act as a temporary bench while the bench top replacement happens could take anywhere up to 8 days from when they come to measure up apparently.

But I am quite sure we can manage with a laundry tub and fold up table and BBQ and portable grille for a few days.

anyhow came on computer later than I had hoped so had better get off and make a start. Maybe I'll get a chance to get on later today or tonight not sure.

Seems you are doing some great price comparisons. Enjoy your dinner with mother. Sit down restaurants have more choices but watching the salt limits choices even more. Even the grilled chicken salads are 1000mg due to brine the meat is packaged in.

Heading out again today after my cleaner has gone to sort out some more looking at stone bench tops the man we had come and give us a quote ended up being around $5000 for granite.

I think we can get ceaser stone or some such which will be just as good for $3000 or just under. Ikea even do stone bench tops so going to see what they have and how much they would be. Ikea's stone bench tops have a 25 year guarantee. That's good enough for my mother and I.

We'll be having dinner out my mother and I tonight at our club but I'll be sure to choose something healthy as per my NO junk food challenge.

Have a great and successful day all emoticon

Holy Toledo, POSITIVE-PAULA! You are organized! I will admire you forever. This is such a great guide. Just reading it has me all pumped up and ready to go. Today, what helped me not to do a drive thru run was this challenge. I, also, had roasted a mass amount of veggies on Sunday at my daughters and had picked up some pre-made veggie rolls(brown rice, of course) on way home. Having this prepared really helped me to just keep driving home after morning bus run. So, Spark Friends, a little time taken to have some prepared items ready at home or pack in your tote, will help A LOT in keeping us on track. Come on everyone! Lets do this!

HOPE THIS IS OKAY TO SHARE:

Thought I would share the NO JUNK FOOD CHALLENGE that I shared with my team for those interested in joining Kathryn and I. It's never too late to join in.

I thought it was about time we had a NO JUNK FOOD CHALLENGE

So from now till the end of the month who is with me on this.

One of the principles of eating a healthy diet is to eat only nutrient-dense foods and to avoid those that contain empty calories. Nutrient-dense foods are those that provide healthful nutrients in the form of compound carbohydrates, high quality protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. On the other hand, foods that are high in calories but contribute little or nothing to your health are considered junk food and you can simply live without them.

If you want to improve your health, lose weight, or maintain a healthy weight, try the No Junk Food Challenge and see how it can bring amazing changes to your body.

What to Eat and Avoid in No Junk Food Challenge?

No biscuits/ cookies

No cake/donuts /muffins

No candy

No chips

No chocolate the only allowable exception is 1 or 2 squares of dark chocolate with 70% or higher amount of Cacao in it

No fast food

No ice cream

No pastries

No soda

No white bread

Less Processed or preferably no processed foods allowed

Junk food refers to those foods that contain calories but contribute little to body nutrition. They may taste good, but hardly keep you full, so you tend to eat more. This can lead to overeating and overweight.

Another problem about eating junk food is that it tends to substitute for eating nutritious foods. So instead of eating fruits and vegetables, some people eat cookies or chips for snacks, or instead of drinking milk, children would rather have soda.

If you want to try the No Junk Food Challenge, just follow these simple rules till the end of the month

No biscuits/ cookies

No cake/donuts /muffins

No candy

No chips

No chocolate the only allowable exception is 1 or 2 squares of dark chocolate with 70% or higher amount of Cacao in it

No fast food

No ice cream

No pastries

No soda

No white bread

Less Processed or preferably no processed foods allowed

What Are the Benefits of No Junk Food Challenge?

Weight Loss

If you quit eating junk food, you will significantly reduce your calorie intake, which will lead to weight loss. Just imagine all the calories from baked goods, potato chips, or fast food that you are going to skip every day for 3 weeks!

Improved Nutrition

Without the unnecessary junk food from your diet, you will be eating more nutrient-dense foods, which contain more protein, vitamin, mineral, healthy fats, fiber, etc. These foods include whole grains, lean meat, fruits, vegetables, eggs, and other real, whole foods! The No Junk Food Challengewill enable you to get sufficient amounts of important nutrients to support a healthy heart, brain, muscles and bones, as well as the digestive system.

Reduced Health Risks

The most important advantage of eliminating junk food from your diet is that you will be eating less saturated fat, salt, sugar, preservatives, and other harmful chemicals. That means you will be reducing your risk of developing high cholesterol, heart diseases, diabetes, and even cancer.

Useful Tips for No Junk Food Challenge

Find healthy replacements. Instead of eating white bread, eat whole grain products. Eat organic greek style yogurt instead of ice cream.

Learn to make home cooked meals. Avoid eating in fast food restaurants. Look for recipes that include healthy ingredients like lean meats, vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains.

Get support from friends and loved ones.

Hit reply in this forum where the Team No junk Food Challenge is and let us know how you are going. If you are having any struggles with saying No to junk food, I'm sure one of us can help you stick to saying a big NO if you reach out and let us know.

Write a Blog. Write about your daily struggles, your feelings, what you are doing to succeed in your goals, your failures and your successes. This will help you sort out your bad eating habits and what motivates you to eat.

Healthy-eating can be habit-forming.

There is a direct correlation to the busyness of life and the consumption of junk food. When life becomes hectic, the idea of picking up a quick bite to eat that takes virtually no time seems like a good idea at the time.

For people especially, who are working longer hours to earn a static income, it could be a contributing factor to the obesity epidemic that is being faced. More than one-third of Americans have a BMI that is greater than 30.

When people have more weight that they are carrying, the statistics show that they eat more fast food. This creates a negative cycle of junk food cravings that leads to health that is even worse than before.

I'm not a big consumer of Alcohol perhaps one or two at max. glasses of muscato wine 2 times a week with dinner on the weekends but am also in the challenge so going Alcohol FREE and will mostly continue being alcohol free after the clean in keeping with clean eating.

Take care and keep smiling,

Paula emoticon

Great glad someone else is joining me. Have my co-leader from the team I lead joining me also. emoticon

We are changing our kitchen bench tops.

Have decided to go with a colour called JET BLACK it is Granite and we have the man coming to give us a quote tomorrow morning the same man that did my dad's kitchen.

I had wanted a black for a while now and wanted a natural stone not man made that would never be as strong. The granite one will be awesome. The kitchen is not old but we'e always hated the white, black and grey molted look laminex bench tops so finally are doing something about it.

My husband is also keen to get another water tank to have more capacity of water for the summer for watering the garden so we'll be most likely doing that also.

It's been a busy but very good and productive day in all areas.

Have a good night everyone. emoticon

That's an interesting challenge , POSITIVE-PAULA. Do believe you have inspired me to try one that I realllllly need to work. Even though, I have cut back a lot in soda, I have not manage to quit completely. Fast food is , also, my bane! I could probably knock down both by just staying away from the drive thru. OK,lets do this, today was my taco bell will be my last fast food for 30 days! Together we can get through it! By the way, I do have my will made out in case I don't survive.

Things not done at home today. Did do a mile walk right after bus run this morning, then to mothers to tend to things there, back to the bus for afternoon run, then to pick up a non driving friend in next town to take to an appointment in Akron. Instead of another walk due to heat, I sort of put stuff in the van into groups while I waited outside. After dropping him off and getting some colorful gourds for decorations for grandbabies that I will see this weekend, I came to the library to be among Spark friends. Wonder why I go thru gas so quickly? lol

I need to let it go.As was reminded my a sparky, tomorrow is a new day. Just need to do some extra walks and be healthy. Am surprised that stomach didnt start complaining.
