It seems to be lessening a bit...my walk outside yesterday wasn't that bad (but I did wear my mask, that seemed to help!).

I am back to CrossFit and Pilates after a week off, it feels good!

Oh KAYOTIC.

Hey, Maymay! I'm just back from a short trip as well, Larry's niece was out to a wedding in San Diego, and she took a few days after to meet up with us at Rock Creek, just south of Mammoth.

We invited some other friends along, and had a really nice time, got in a hike or 2, and survived the rain and smoke! Luckily the smoke was only on the driving part, not where we were. Also luckily it seems to be staying out of Reno for now!

I'm going back to my IF after a week of indulging!

Terrible tragedy! We had a day of smoke from some nearby fires on Saturday...Sunday the wind had shifted and we are clear again, but the fires are still going, I feel bad for anyone having to deal with that smoke now.

I just read that at least 800 people died across the Pacific Northwest during this last heat wave across Oregon, Washington and Canada.

KAYOTIC,

Oh no, NOT the terrible air and fires again. How scary and sad. I am so sorry.

I went on a drive today and noticed how the air quality changed as I got closer to the mountains. Sad Sad.

We have not had rain for a long, long while emoticon How about you?

It has been hot but not overwhelmingly so. We just really really really need rain. It’s so strange.

I don't know how much outdoor time we'll get this weekend, the air is full of smoke! We can't see the mountains around us...fortunately this morning, it wasn't down in the valley where we are, but I'm starting to smell it a little, so I think it must be drifting down... emoticon

Maymay, are you getting all the rain where you are? emoticon

Hobbes, how about you, still overheated? emoticon or has it cooled down?

Kelpie, are you locked down? I hope not!

Maybe we should all retreat to the deck, and take comfort in the pool by the waterfall!

If you pair the stretching with the strength, that might be good, we do a dynamic stretch before our class at CrossFit, it's the warm up, and it helps get the muscles loose and ready to lift!

Good job on hitting all those goals, Hobbes! And walking to the store is emoticon

Thanx, outdoor people friends.
I hope you had a productive day today.

My July challenge was as follows today:

Strength Training, OH MY, am I gonna be sore tomorrow.

I Did a kick ass iFit strength training both upper and lower body. I had to augment what I was capable of doing but it burned good. I have to remember although about not to over do my poor ol 58 year old crackley knees.

Got in 8843 steps today (worked to the grocery with my pack on again).

Drank my 64 ounces of H2O

Journaled + Drew this morning

I did not get in my Stretching exercises. I guess I am going to have to choose a particular time of the day to be consistent in that.

Thanks for starting the July challenge! I have been remiss in getting that going....and I think it's fine in Introduce yourself!

Great list of goals too, Hobbes! Were the fireworks really bad where you are? We could hear lots of screaming children, but they ended fairly early, before 9pm, I think.

I'm going to check out the challenge now!

What a lovely watercolor, and that's 6 minutes of painting? Remarkable! emoticon

Maymay, I will try to get outside for yoga, maybe tomorrow? I'm off for the holiday... I've been forgetting to do my yoga, always an issue on the weekend for me, but I missed on Friday as well! Sometimes there is just too much to jam into a day, and it gets away from me!

Larry and I met my nephew up at Donner Peak so Larry could coach him on bouldering and climbing, we set up a top rope, and Joey got practice some climbing and rappelling. I believe he enjoyed it!

After having a migraine headache yesterday I awoke with a diminished headache and was worried my migraine would return but it did not.

I spent a good hour and a half walking, then sat sat down and listened to the creek bed sing, a swallowtail butterfly was my company for quite awhile. I finally got brave enough to unpack some of my things from my backpack. I did a bit of writing & sketching then added a little paint. I am trying to learn how to move quickly so that I can capture things as I go. I started one thing and while I was sitting by the creek some jerk came by to bug me and so I moved up on the street by the bridge. emoticon

I would have much preferred to have been down by the water but it did not feel safe. This is what I came up with in that short period of time. About a 15 minute drawing and about 6 minutes of playing with watercolor in my journal. Of course it is all sideways. I never did learn how to mitigate posts with my iPad posting sideways. Oh well.

So far today has been a good day. Hobbes

Thank you again for the belated birthday wish MAYMAY, yes, we got up to 114 on Sunday, followed by 117 yesterday. Think being locked in a car with all the windows rolled up HOT.

I finally had to take my Dad to a hotel last night for the A/C. It was a weird night & we did not get a lot of sleep but we made it through.

Happy Belated Birthday Hobbes!!!

Yay - a splash fest with lots of ice cream and cold beer - what fun!

I saw a news report yesterday about the Oregon heat that said many, many folks there don't have AC and thought of you Hobbes. Those temps are unbelievable - really hope it cools down for you soon and that you don't lose power. Once again sounds like you've done a great job planning.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon stay cool and hydrated! It sounds like you have done some good prep to weather the heat...we have heated up in Reno, but nothing over 100 so far as I can tell. And, as they say, it's a dry heat...

Thank you for the Birthday wishes, my Sparked OUTDOOR PEOPLE friends emoticon

Tomorrow is supposed to be our horrifically/record breaking day of 114. I live in OREGON and as far as I know this has never ever gotten this hot before. emoticon

Doing all I can to try and keep the house intact. Todays prediction is that its going to get up to 104 some time this evening. We do not have air conditioning only 3 larger fans.

blankets over the windows

freezing large containers of water to put into the box freezer Incase the electricity goes out like it during the ice storm.

Have given my Dad a bit of electrolytes.

Purchased 5 large bags of ice early this morning at the RESTURANT supply store.

We will run fans over ice and use damp sheets to keep my Dads body temperature regulated. If necessary.

I have been watering the trees, flower beds and my gardens like crazy.

The poor strawberry farmers have already lost their crops. emoticon

The day after it is 114 it will be over 100 again and then after that it will be unprecedentedly warm in the 90s for many many days in a row.

Yikes emoticon

Haha - Good for you Hobbes! Grocery hiking in the heat! Very impressive. This is the 2nd year in a row that we are unseasonable cool for April, May and June - we used to jump straight from the 70s to the 90s and stay there through September but for months now our daytime weather is hanging in the upper 70s lower 80s...I'm loving it - wish I could share with you and other areas where it is way too hot! So glad you and your dad are avoiding the hospital!

I'm still off balance but yoga is helping.

Think I'll visit our move into balance thread and finally add a pic to my facebook and visit the deck there.

Hope everyone gets some fresh air today!

I live SUCH an exciting life emoticon

It has been unreasonably hot here these past few days. And this next week a few days of over a hundred are predicted here. I am keeping busy weeding, watering debugging my plants of aphids (with water and a natural mixture) it is time consuming. I have quite a few strawberries and finally my raspberry is beginning to produce.

It was bath day for Dad and the physical therapist came. We have not had to go to the hospital for quite a few weeks now. Thankgoodness

My big fun outdoor outing so far this week was a trip to the grocery store with my backpack on. I sometimes take a mental vacation and pretend I am on a travel adventure somewhere far away. On my last entertaining walk I did meet two dogs, three cats, some squirrels, crows, bluejays, a pair of ducks and an interesting old lady with a fabulous garden.

Corny me, I took this selfie starting out on my big 2 mile grocery
store trek. Here I am in the alleyway behind my house emoticon

KAYOTIC, your bike ride sounded like so much fun.
I am Still not resolved in my Fitbit stuff, I got frustrated and stopped trying for awhile & so appreciated reading your encouragement. I will not give up. I will work on it again soon.

MAYMAY, I know that you were bummed about your son not staying longer. I hope you can get really distracted for awhile as I know how hard it is to let go. What dichotomous feelings parents have at that point in life e.g. so wanting our kids to be independent and successful and yet we want them in an odd way to also need us. Or at least we want them around. I am glad that you dusted off your old FB and found The Deck.

KELPIE, how is your mom doing?

I think I have been at the Deck Party for awhile now. I went swimming with the turtles, ate lots of watermelon and enjoyed way too much dark beer. It was really just what I was needing.

And oh, that rope swing is amazing.

Yes, happy Monday, Mommy!

Maymay, glad you got the invite! If nothing else we can keep in touch over there, and maybe challenge each other a bit, and support too!

Love that you have deer in your yard! What a nice morning surprise!

The bike ride was tough, I mostly walked the last half...it's very steep! But I was able to ride the entire way down, once upon a time I was not confident enough to do that! emoticon

Enjoy your kayak! that sounds lovely!

Good morning!

Pleasantly cool and breezy here (72F) so I'm enjoying coffee on my screened porch. Just had a wonderful surprise! 2 young deer loped silently and gracefully through the bushes and across my backyard - I wish I could channel their agility!

Happy Monday Mommy!

Kay - thanks for getting me to the Facebook deck! I'll post there soon but think I'll add a photo first so I'm not just a shadow. Hope you and Larry enjoyed your cool, elevated ride!

Hobbes - Keep on Nooming! I looked at the noom ap a couple of months ago and thought it was excellent - checked so many boxes that are important to our well-being - only reason I didn't join is I have commitment issues - haha, Noom could probably help me out with that! I don't have a fitbit but do have an apple watch and this weekend I started using Myfitnesstracker Ap (free version) to track food and was able to sync my exercise from watch to Ap so I'm pretty pleased about that.

Kelpie - Congrats on your low scale number! So happy that you'll be able to enjoy van trips and Scotland this summer! I need to get back to the weights as well.

Chores are calling by name and will keep me busy most of the day but will take some breaks for yoga and a strength video and probably an early evening kayak paddle.

Pura vida!

Ah, thinning apples! That makes more sense!

I think I got an invite to the FB deck sent to Hobbes, I'll see if I can do the same for Maymay!

Splashy party indeed! Those turtles.... emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon they do like to make a splash!

We're headed to higher elevations today to get in a bike ride, and probably a stretch beforehand in cooler temps!

Hope you all are staying cool! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good morning deckies!

Happy Father's Day!

Yes quite the splash-fest last night! The turtles acted grumpy but I think they enjoyed all the activity!

OK I dusted off and cleaned up my ancient Facebook account...feel bad that I didn't see and thank friends for birthday wishes over the years so I cleared all posts so I won't feel bad each time I log in.

Kay I sent you a friend request.

Kelpie I sent you a message so I think you can send me a friend request.

Hobbes I have a very generic name - Mary Sanders- so might be hard to find me but I added my middle name to my profile so maybe if you search Mary Rigby Sanders you can find me and send a request. Or if you want to Spark pm your facebook info to me I can search for you.

I'm very unhappy about losing this forum too...at least we have a couple of months to transition...

I was very out of sorts mentally when I got home this week...of course the goal of 21 years of school was for son to become a young professional but now that it's happened I miss being the mom of a student. But I feel great about the company he's working for, they had Juneteenth scheduled as a holiday before congress passed the act this week. And they are an international company headquartered in Paris - so loving that he's getting cultural diversity in his new city and his work. He's loving all the diverse restaurant cuisines!

I've really focused on healthy eating the last few days and I think it's helping physically and mentally - today is time to get back to dedicated exercise time - not just movement from daily chores!

Hope you're all getting outdoors this weekend!

Pura vida!

Kay, not harvesting, thinning, so we have fewer but bigger. We had no cherries at all.

Yep, I'm going to miss the ease of Spark!

I'm happy with my take on IF, as I was below 62kgs for the first time in I don't know how many years. I need to keep up the challenge though, especially with weights, which I have not been good at. Summer is when my weight tends to creep up, so I need to be extra careful. I know that perceived wisdom is not to weigh every day, but I find it helps me keep focused. And in the summer, when I'm on holiday, either in the van, or in Scotland, that tends not to happen. So the pounds slide on.......

So, that was some party, there are puddles everywhere, and did the turtles come to say bye? Should we take them with us to the "other" deck?

You know, there is so much else going on in my life, that I am quite emotional about this place closing down.

Hobbes, I've had pretty good luck with fitbit help files and customer service, hopefully you can get it running again! Do you only have the phone, or can you log into fibit on your computer? I'm mostly a computer gal!

Maymay, hopefully we can connect on FB or FB (facebook or fitbit) emoticon There is a private "deck" group on facebook, and we are toying with the idea of moving some challenges over there...FB isn't as easy for me as Spark is, but at least we could stay in touch.

I hovered below 140 for the first time since last October, so my IF is probably working...albeit slowly!

Kelpie, you are harvesting apples? Ours don't show up until fall, but our neighbors did share some of their cherries this year, they had quite a few! emoticon

Did I hear something about a deck party! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon count me in! emoticon

Maymay,

Oh my goodness. Welcome back?
I am so sorry that you now too have to know e.g. the devastating blow of SparkPeople ending as we know it.

I hope to see you on FB deck someday but so far have yet to get connected. Things have been complicated. Do you do Fitbit? That is another area of connection we could all make with one another. I am so perturbed with not being able to reconnect to Fitbit after removing myself because of constant glitches happening. I had before readily just removed my Fitbit and then added it back on right away.
But not this time emoticon

Unless the person happens to have Familial hypercholesterolemia which my doctor suspects I have. Doc communicated to me that they see' these kinds of numbers typically with patients who are obese, have had very sedentary lifestyles and.or have the presence of other concomitant conditions such as diabetes etc...

I have an appointment now with a cardiologist on July 8. How old that sounds.

My blood pressure & pulse are fantastic but other labs not so.

Darn it.

So, now I am more seriously considering weaving Intermittent Fasting & Noom together. As I have been reading that IF had been proven to help with lowering cholesterol levels.

Noom is still working well for me BTW

Oh my! I was offline for a couple of weeks - now I'm shocked to learn that Sparkpeople and this wonderful deck will be disappearing.

Life has been a whirlwind - son decided he was ready to move to DC (I was hoping he'd come home & work virtually here for a couple of months). So hubby and I helped him find an apartment, work through the lease and move from Charlottesville.

Good news is I lost a couple of pounds during the week I was up there...too busy to eat except for a tiny breakfast and a big dinner...unplanned intermittent fasting!

Hobbes - so glad you had a vacay! and that ds is home for summer! hope you were pleasantly surprised by you labs!

Kay - great balancing you've got going on! Enjoy your bike rides with Larry!

Kelpie - I too am jealous of your big sunny garden space! Hope you're feeling much less blerch today!

So it looks like I'm going to have to learn how to Facebook! I made an account many, many years ago (son was in preschool then) but have never posted anything or even added a profile picture.

I need to figure out if I want to use that account or start a new one then hopefully y'all can help me connect with the Facebook deck!

Let's hit the rope swing by the waterfall and have a cannonball competition this afternoon!

I'll bring peaches and watermelon! Loving all the fresh produce right now - wish I was growing myself but at least I'm supporting local growers.

Pura vida!

I am so envious,
I would LOVE to have all of that space to grow things.

How lovely,

I have rented out my home for the past few years and it has fruit trees, berries and a large garden. I miss it dearly.

As you may know I now live with my 96 year old Dad in his home as his caregiver and have very limited space to grow things here. The house is in the city center of over 440,900 people. My Dad has a humongous Cedar tree in his yard that really creates a lot of shade. I have had to learn how to be a creative gardener & am limited to learning container gardening. I am getting better at it but there has been a steep learning curve.

All kinds of apples. The late-flowering trees were very productive, so had to take up to 4 of the 5 out. Other varieties had been hit by the late cold spell and no thinning out was necessary. No cherries at all this year, and very few peaches. Even the kiwi froze!

The rest of the day yesterday was a non-event. I dozed and took paracetamol. Hopefully, I'll have more energy today as I have a lot to do!

My mum has also been diagnosed with a UTI, but she doesn't take enough fluids. I'll be rining her shortly.

End of the week, let's start planning a party.. We all could do with one!

KELPIE57,

What kind of apples?

Finally, yes have been connected w/ both you and KAYOTIC on FB.

Sounds like you are doing OK after your second dose but good grief what an unfortunate hit. Sorry to hear about that... good grief emoticon Ouch.

Nothing from FB Deck as of yet. But as far as this one goes I am definitely up for relaxing on a float. I have not heard back from my physician yet on my most recent urinalysis but sure that the UTI is not done yet.

Feeling like crap today.

Enough Already

Also, Noom has swallowed up the space on my cell phone and now I am having Fitbit fits. I see you there but it could take a bit to get myself up and running again on my Fitbit, sigh...

The not so techy, Hobbes

Hobbes, fingers crossed we manage to "meet" on the deck on Facebook. Hope they get the UTI under control. I get them a lot, and also the non-infection type, which is really a nuisance.

2nd jab yesterday. The doc hit a blood vessel so a bit messy. And today huge bruise and feeling very blerch!

Helped Jacques thin out the apples today, and think I have used up my energy.

I do need to tidy my space/craft room as we need it this weekend.

So I'm off to do that now.

HOWEVER, here on the deck, I'm going to head back to the waterfall for a nice splash and swim. Anyone care to join me? A water battle? Or just a floating relaxation?

See you there later!

KAYOTIC,

I have shared my email with KELPIE & she can share it with you if you’d like or think that might be helpful.

Thank you,

Yes, having a more serious UTI has been an odd surprise but explains a few things. I have been asymptomatic but really unexplainably exhausted. That was the reason I initially had labs done in the first place that revealed my ridiculously high cholesterol.

Anyhow... I just hate feeling

I'll be on the lookout for the FB link, since Kelpie and I are already linked up, we should be able to work this out!

Hobbes, I'm glad Noom is working for you! That's really great, and yes, you are worth the 99 cents a day! Glad you got to see the creek too!

Kelpie, I would have the same issue were I logging food...We eat mostly from scratch, so the scanner doesn't work, but then my phone also doesn't seem to be able to scan things like others do, I've tried with those Q codes and it's never worked!

Hope you all have a great Wednesday!

Hobbes, I'm glad you've found something that works for you. Keep us in the loop. Scanning wouldn't be a great help for me, as we eat so much from scratch. What I liked in Spark was that I could put in a recipe, and get the calories from that. Time-consuming, yes, however, we tend to eat the same thing, so once it was in the system, it was fine. One thing I had noticed was that the allowance on Fitbit is less than on Sparkpeople.

And you'll get those figures under control. emoticon

UTI's ouch! emoticon

Can you PM me your email address, that way I can add you on Fitbit, and maybe get to Facebook from there. I'll do the same and you can try it on your end.

I'm about to head out for a walk before it gets too hot, and then 2nd jab this evening. My first knocked me, and my routines, out, so hoping this one won't be so hard on my body.

Cold drinks down by the waterfall, and I've put the blow-up mattresses out if anyone else fancies a bit of a float.

Catch you later .

Yes, KELPIE,

I could NOT add you either, weird.

FB would not even provide me an option to add you as a friend.

My son is home from college for the Summer now & I am able to go on walks again now tha he is here to look in on my Dad.

It was good to see the creek again emoticon

It has been interesting reading about the goal trackers that people have been coming up with to investigate. I will hang back & let other Sparkers do the work for me while I try Noom for the next few months. The default billing option for Noom I have discovered is actually even double what I had anticipated and is $149 every 5 months, which works out to be $29.80 per month. That worried me at first, but then I got to thinking is not my health is definitely worth the 99 cents per day?

Noom tracks ones movement with an embedded pedometer on their phone, but you can also use other things like FitBit and Garmin etc... I REALLY like the food tracker, it is very accessible, fast, easy and the APP has a way to scan food using a built in barcode scanner. For now Noom has eliminated my need to use my Fitbit and has exponentially cut down on the time it takes to log what I eat. SparkPeople is exhaustive in its tracking system. I loved it for years and found it helpful, but now I want and need something different. So far, I am having good luck. I'll let you know as things roll out further.

I am not opposed to trying Spark360 once things get worked out but just feel after my scary, eye-opening lab report on my cholesterol like I need something stable, immediate, and life-altering right now to work on. Sparkpeople was not doing this for me. I had got caught in the rut of not being honest with myself and frustrated with the amount of time it took to log things in.

I jogged again tonight in ICELAND on my treadmill. I stopped doing this for a few weeks due to a pretty severe UTI infection and exhaustion from it. Tomorrow I go to Radiology to have some testing done early AM. Let you know what happens after. Not looking forward to that. Nothing to eat after Midnight tonight kind of thing.

KAYOTIC,

That so good to hear about Mauima, have thought about her on & off for a long time. I believe that this is the team I have been with the longest since I joined SPARKING many, many, many, many years ago. . . LOL

Thank you,
emoticon emoticon

I had a hard time adding KELPIE as a FB friend for some reason.

I am sending you both my FB contact info link privately under a little
Spark emoticon Goodie.

Perhaps I will have better luck that way?

I also use Fitbit emoticon
As far as joining another so called diet APP I began trying a Noom trial membership the week before the SparkPeople announcement arrived & inspired by my own personal health scare after getting back my lab work. I am surprisingly finding quite a bit of success using it. I am going to stick with it as I am finding the psychology of it helpful to me.

Yes, I'm Kay Matthys on FB. I think either one of us should be able to add you to the group there! If not, we should be able to get Mauima to do it. She started that group, and there are a community of former Sparkers OP there. You would fit right in Hobbes!

Kelpie, are we friends on Fitbit? I think we are, but I don't see my friends on my dashboard anymore...not sure why?

I do not want to lose my Outdoor People Friends after all these years. I am not a member of the deck team on FB. How do I do that.

I just came home from the most marvelous vacation BTW .... I have sooooooo Much needed a vacation from caregiving my Dad and FINALLY got one.

I popped a message on the Facebook deck post. Got a reaction from old friends. So silver lining and all that. Another thought is Fitbit. You can have private groups there too. Well find a way

Yeah, I know you all have probably been working through some emotions regarding SparkPeople going away. I'm going to try out the new site, but so far it looks pretty bare compared to the riches of this site we all have contributed too over these many years!

And knowing that our teams will be gone...it's a real bummer.

I don't know how many of you that are active on this thread lately are on the "deck" team on facebook, I think Kelpie? I don't know about anyone else. LMK if you want to take a look, I think we can get you added? I will miss the interactions here, it's been a big part of my life for so many years!

At least we have some time to figure out how to stay connected if that's what we want, and to plan for a replacement as needed!

Stay strong deckkies!

Yeah, the snow is a thing of the past these days, (except up high, I guess, Larry saw some yesterday on his bike ride up near Mt Rose) so I'm hiking and occasionally biking.

No more owls, I guess they flew the coop?

We are cooling down next week, and not quite so hot this weekend? I'll take it!

Sounds like a nice trip, Maymay! Hope your wish comes true and you get to enjoy a few months with your son at home!

I'm just back from "Murph", a memorial CrossFit workout we do on Memorial day. It's a mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups and 300 air squats followed by another mile run, and if you are really bad-ass you do it in a weighted vest. I did half-Murph, so not bad ass! But I think my push-up training helped!

Hope you all are enjoying this long weekend, if you have one!

Good morning!

Just returning from the longest trip we've taken since 2016...spent a week in Virginia - first Charlottesville for son's college graduation then DC checking out the housing market for him. He starts work June 7 but will be virtual for 12 weeks. Only thing certain at this point is he has to be out of Cville apartment on July 6. I'm hoping he'll put his belongings in storage and come home for July and August! We'll see.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Pura vida!

Well, you have to put it up quickly! I'll be making ratatouille today and fasting...it goes with the territory, I suppose! Staying hydrated helps!

I only saw one of the owlets yesterday, I hope the other one is OK, it was looking a bit sluggish last time I saw it, but then I think owls sleep during the day...

Enjoy the day, get outside if you can! emoticon

We had a rainy weekend followed by a couple of nice days followed by wind and cold! Even some snow in the hills (none down here that I have seen).

I walked over to the stream and peeked in on the baby owlets, they are growing fast, but so cute!

I found apricots at Trader Joes yesterday, surprised and delighted! emoticon Thanks for the strawberries! emoticon (I'm not sure why this one looks sad!)

I was able to find the owls on my walk yesterday, so that was exciting!

I also made a really tasty chicken dish from my Whole30 cookbook, the sauce was coconut milk and cashew butter and served over zucchini "noodles", which, if I'm being totally honest were more trouble than they were worth, and next time I'll probably just pass the zucchini through the salad shooter!

Today I'm making a cauliflower taco casserole and a sheet pan dinner with onions, peppers, gnocchi and chicken sausages. It's also a fasting day so I don't want to wait too long or I'll be too hungry to resist!

So many teachers! I do teach my folks at work, and we've been taking on students in the department too, you learn so much when you teach someone! My sister is a principal, and my dad was a teacher after he retired from the Air Force!

Maymay, glad your thumb is improving! Scary!

Hobbes, emoticon for being a teacher as well! I'm sure you have appreciative students too! And glad to hear you are enjoying your treadmill! emoticon That's great!

We visited my mom on Mother's day, the first time down that way in over a year! We last visited the family at Christmas 2019, it just seems so long ago!

Happy Saturday deckies!

Some frustrating news here - too much gardening has given me a swollen thumb emoticon emoticon

I headed to the doc Wednesday when it began to swell...hopefully I got the antibiotics started soon enough that nothing else will be needed. It's a bit better today...fingers crossed that it will be "all better" in a week.

I want a green thumb not a large thumb! emoticon Guess I need to invest in heavier gloves - sometimes thorns stick me through the ones I've been wearing.

Well I know where I'll be tonight - soaking in the hot tub tonight trying to shrivel the swelling. Hope you can join!

Enjoy the weekend!

KAYOTIC, good for you for finishing your taxes... I am still working on ours.

That must feel so gratifying to have heard from a student from your European Business Law class in such a way KELPIE.

I too am a teacher and the week long appreciation was just over the top within the community where I taught.

This is my first time to not work since just after my son was born and he’s now almost 23. Something in me says that I may never go back to teaching after my Dad passes. It is a strange feeling.

My hat is off to all teachers, instructional assistants, specialists, administrators, & anyone that is working to make a school run during this unprecedentedly difficult time.

Thank You... Thank You...

thanx to KELPIE57 and congratulations on your BMI congratulations 🎊 woo hoo

It is predicted to be 80, the hottest it has been this Spring in Oregon. I am concerned for the potentiality of wild fires again this year. My friend in Texas just experienced golf ball sized hail. Such weird & harsh times.

I am beginning to LOVE my treadmill emoticon By the way.

Thanks for the appreciation Kay! Nope, it doesn't happen here....well, not a week anyway. We sometimes get it other ways. here's one that meant a lot to me. This is from a young man who has just finished law school, and shared it on Facebook. I congratulated him and he replied "Thank you Professor! I hope you're well. European Business Law, the class you taught at Lyon 3, was my first law class and turned out to be my favourite course in university." That means a lot as you can imagine.

I know what you mean about forgetting to hit the start on the Fitbit. I've done that a few times too. emoticon

I'm in a bit of a celebratory mood. I hit a healthy BMI this morning for the first time in years. So I'm bringing some virtual champagne to the deck, and music, and we're going to have a party! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Dancing counts as movement, even my old lady moves! Finished the taxes! It took a bit of wrangling with the software, as my computer was getting fussy with the updates...but I managed!

Larry and I went to the gym, I did some yoga, forgot to hit start on my fitbit... emoticon but it's the doing that matters, not the tracking! At least that's what I tell myself when I haven't tracked correctly!

It's nurses week at the hospital, also teacher appreciation week!

Kelpie, is that a thing where you are? If not, I will send my appreciation for your vocation regardless!

emoticon to Kelpie and any other teachers lurking out there on deck! emoticon

Happy Sunday!

I posted a new blog with some pics from my walk yesterday, we have baby owls down by the creek. I couldn't get a great picture, but I think you can tell what they are.

I still need to prune here, but it's been a bit blustery...and I still need to get my tax numbers in! Just trying to get turbotax to cooperate!

Have a great rest of the weekend OP!

MAYMAY,

Did you get all of your pruning done yet?

THIS emoticon was a first . . . I seem to be gaining and not losing weight

Straight from my garden emoticon

I finished painting one of the old pieces of furniture, a chest of drawers from the basement the night before last. I REALLY like this one emoticon I will use to store Art Supplies.
