Hi Everyone! I'm really stuggling with my weight loss. I lost about 20 lbs last year and have gained all but 5 of it back! I went to the Doctor yesterday and she suggested Weight Watchers... Anyone doing that? Also I wanted to know if anyone was interested in walking, maybe at the Forum in the mornings? I'm on the NE side. Looking for some accountability! :)

HI and welcome, Stangergirl. Wow...I'm with Sandy...huge congrats to you. You've really accomplished a lot. Bet you are proud...you should be. Glad you love our weather. Lots more sunshine then Seattle...just from what I've heard. I've only been to Seattle once...we had a wonderful time. We went during august...our hottest month...to much cooler temps there. What a great morale booster that was. Plus...the wonderful seafood, the mountains and the beautiful forestry. I'd love to go back again someday.

Sounds like you've really been busy, Sandy. Bet your yard looks beautiful. Can't say the same. We are gone too much and it shows with our "dirt" backyard and overgrown beds. I guess it doesn't bother me that much or I'd do something about it. LOL Hope others check in and let us know how they are doing. take care, mary

Hi and welcome. We are not getting a lot of traffic on this site.
You have made a great accomplishment to lose all that on your own. I can understand how you feel now. I had gastric bypass a couple years ago and feel great and can do so much now. I am a new person. I gained 13 lbs. and have to lose it plus much more. The gym is great and keeps me in shape. I love it and used to hate exercising.
Look forward to talking to you.

I have been very busy with the garden club and grand children this summer. I also have a veggie garden and have started canning. Walking is still in my thoughts but can't do it yet. I have started back to the gym three days a week for now. I gained 13 lbs. and have to lose it and keep on going. I still want to drop another 20 to 30 lbs. I that would put me about 150. I would be very happy with that for a while.
Good to hear from you Mary.

I have been in San Antonio for a little over 1 year. My husband was relocated down here from Seattle. I love the weather!!! I have made a lot of changes since we moved. I started exercising and watching what I eat about 6 years ago. I started at 200+ pounds, and am currently holding steady at 130, for the past 2 years. I became a personal trainer, and LOVE IT!!!!!! I see a nutritionist, and am not sure how to get over this 2 year hurdle. I have medical issues, but am working through them all. I have to admit I was using FitDay for a couple years, and since I have stumbled upon SparkPeople, I have been VERY IMPRESSED!!!!

Hi, Sandy...I have spark send me an email when someone checks in here. But as you see...that isn't very often. Hope you are doing great. The temperatures haven't been as bad as last year...but I swear...It sure seems HOT to me. We still do our walks twice a week on the Riverwalk. I am wringing wet when we finish. I am ready for fall. We are heading back to Davis Mountain state Park this month. It's cooler there because of the elevation. A couple want us to follow them to New Mexico...for even cooler temps...but we're not sure yet. I'm dealing with a very old dog and those long road trips are hard on her. We have a little 17 foot trailer. She used to love to go "camping"...but not so much anymore. She likes the comforts of home. Well, write and fill us in. mary

Hi Joy, no I didn't but we had a group picture before we started. A parade goer took our picture and said he would send us one. I will post the picture I have. Next year will be better we are going to do a small float with our trailer.
Take care of that knee you want to continue doing all you're doing. That is great about the walk for your son's graduation and the fact that he did it. Congrats to him. Have a nice Sunday.

Howdy folks!

Yep I've been in the pool almost daily. The temp of water is starting to heat up, Next week it will probably feel like bath water. :)

Good news for me... MY oldest baby graduated from high school on Friday. Whew hoo! He kept me wondering right to an hour before...He still hadn't purchased his cap and gown. I walked from the parking lot to the colisseum, all the way to the end of colissuem.. climbed the steep steps and did it all without sweating... whew hoo!

I was in the pool for a couple hours yesterday --too long, because last night my knee was burning. I couldn't move it. So I just tried to relax and waited a couple hours... then got up and got some aspirin... pain finally subsided.

Take care of that foot Mary.

Sandy... did you get a photo of you in the parade? Post it for us!

Chime in the rest of you friends!

Love,
JOy

We just walk on the Riverwalk in downtown SA. We park in the King Williams District and usually go to the new locks on the Riverwalk. Fred changes up the route every so often. On Thursday nights we park by the Courthouse...it's free parking after 6 pm. Then we walk back up the River to King Williams District...then head back downtown and go to the Pearl Brewery. We get a Subway and end up at Starbucks. That brings us nearly all the way back to our truck. That's a longer walk. I don't always do that one...because of my foot. If you ever want to join us let us know. We can always adjust the walk. The distance depends on my foot. I still have lots of problems with one foot. Now, Fred...my husband...could walk to Corpus and back without any trouble. LOL Not me. Get ready for the hot temps...they are coming. mary

Had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Our club was in the LIve Oak Memorial Parade and then we went to the Festival of flowers at the Alazar Temple. I found a lot of nice plants to purchase at such great prices.
Monday we had a family cook out. This weekend is quiet.

I wish I had a beautiful yard but it is only a work in progress. It is coming along slowly. The front is pretty good.

The River walk sounds pretty good tell me more. I don't remember hearing about it. I don't know if I could go every Tuesday but some times. I would love it.

Hope everyone had a great Memorial weekend. We had a great time camping with friends. I'm trying to get my mind wrapped around the knowledge that it's going to be very, very, very hot real soon. We still do the Riverwalk walk every Tuesday morning...averaging between 7 and 9 miles. There's a stop at starbucks in there to cool off and get a drink. Joy...you ought to be in that pool by now. Sandy...sure hope your show went well. Bet you have a beautiful yard. Everyone else...check in and let us know what's going on. Hope everyone is healthy and happy. mary

It is great that everyone is staying motivated and on task. Also going to the Festival of Flowers at the Alazar temple. (not sure of spelling) It is on the feeder off 1604 and between Stone Oak & Blanc0. $6 to get in and oodles of flowers and companies and ideas etc. Come join us. They also have a plant exchange. For each plant you bring you get a ticket to trade for other plants. You can also buy plants.
I will be in the Live Oak Memorial Day Parade on Saturday with the Live Oak Village Garden Club. Other than that we are having a cook out at my daughters house.

Hi Sandy, Thanks for stopping in to say hi! We are still on. Lots of friends have been huddling daily and lots have been blogging.

It's always good to hear we are working on our goals and haven't forgotten each other. Support is real important according to Sparks.

Anyone have any Memorial day plans?

Got to get out and do a little weeding today. Those sticker plants have shown up in my garden, by the pool... Not good., so got to get working on that before they spread.

Thinking of all ya'll ( as you say here in the south... or you guys as we said up north.

Hey Bill,

Thanks for posting! You were BUSY! All in a days time? 3 cars?

So when you emptied your closet of the old, did you bring in the new? You deserve some new... Got to reward yourself!

Sandy, are you getting all geared up for the event this weekend?

Mary, I hope you have a fantastic mini vacation on the beach! How fun... Not to hot yet and not too cool.

Cindy, are you back up and doing things like you planned? I noticed you added a team, Don't forget about your SA spark friends!

Carole, Poet, Allyn--how have you all been?

I see we have some new members--please guys(gals) chime in any time.

We got a volley ball net last week to play in the pool. Not to good at it yet. We spend more time running in and out of the pool to get the ball than we do volleying, but maybe we'll get better at it.

I started working on a vision collage too. There was an article on spark yesterday, that showed there is actually a new team that is trying to get people to make them--vision collages. Anybody else made one?

Hi Joy,

Just taking a little time off (yay staycation) over the past week and a half. For me, I was going to just slounge the whole week, but ended up doing both front and back yards, replanting some holly (had some up last year right before the 90+ days of 90+ degree heat and it mostly burned up; tryin again this year), washed three cars and waxed two, and did a bunch of spring-cleaning-style stuff.

Finally purged the closet of all the "I used to wear this" clothing, and holy cow I can't believe I used to be able to wear some of this stuff. =O

Other than that, just workin and payin bills and the usual whatnot. ;)

Hi girls, I just bought about ten tomato plants at the Men's Garden Club meeting. Guess what I am doing this morning. I belong to the Live Oak Village Garden Club and I haven't had much time to work on my garden because I am working on theirs. I am going to put in some Thyme, flat leaf parsley, and oregano yet. I am going to start them in a pot and then as they get bigger I will transplant to a permanent spot in the yard. It is going to rain a little maybe today so it will be easier to pull weeds. Glad your dill is doing better. I am planting mine from seed I don't need it for another month or so until the pickles are ready. Have a great day ladies.

Hey! Good to hear from you Cindy.

That reminded me, I planted one basil too.

Two of the dill plants looked much better today.

Supposed to get some rain tomorrow, so that will be good for the garden.

Did anyone get fooled today? OR fool anyone?

Sandy...you are right about the rosemary. I have some planted out front and just cut it back a couple weeks ago, it was almost 4 ft high. Looks pretty and smells great too. I try to plant drought & deer tolerant plants. Last year I planted some cactus, but they all died over the winter because it was too dang cold. I just replanted yucca and aguave. Those are the only things that did not freeze. I have some tomato and basil in pots on the deck...I wonder if the deer will be brave enough to come up that close to eat them?

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand - martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - WHAT A RIDE !

Hi Joy, Give the dill a little time it may shrivel a little. Some plants do because it is a shock to their system. Tomato plants always do for me.
Sounds like you have a nice selection. They should do well I grow dill for my homemade dill pickles. They ate them up so fast last year I will grow more pickles this year. I can bread & butter pickles and veggies too.

You work out more when bending, kneeling and sitting. You use a lot of upper body which burns more calories.

Well I got some flat leaf parsely, lavender, thyme, rosemary and dill. The dill is already shrivelling. Dont' know what to do for it.

And on the flower end, I picked up some petunias, hydrangeas snap dragons and some other prety yellow one, but I don't know what it is.

Spent about 3 hours yesterday working on it. Still have more to plant today, but the youngest stayed home today, so I guess maybe tomorrow.

I counted the fitness as gardening and 3 hours, but I don't know if that calories burn is right, because it was a lot of calories. I wasn't standing, mostly sitting,kneeling... I wonder why it is so many calories burned.

Beautiful day!!! How are you all?

The Rosemary gets pretty large like a regular bush. Next time I see one that is big I will post. The one up by the Live Oak pool is about 28" tall and almost as wide. It smells so good. Basil was around the tree in our yard until the frost got it. I cut it all back and the new shoots are coming out already. It was about 18" tall and was very fragrant. The mint is about 12" right now in an old wine barrel. It is coming back up from last year. Use it as a flower in the garden I did that with the Italian flat leaf parsley. It all needs full sun to partial shade. At least that is where mine is growing.
Good luck with it. I belong to the Live Oak Village Garden Club and I am learning so much about flowers and Herbs. Have a good Sunday.

Hi Joy, I have mint, basil, and flat leaf parsley. They come up every year like rosemary. I am going to plant the rosemary as a bush. It is pretty and aromatic.
I used the blower with a bag to pick up the leaves and it mulches them to. I found the mower didn't get close enough to the ground to get all the leaves. What a job I am glad it is done. Just waiting for my social security to arrive so I can start planting.

So Carole, how's the house selling preparation going?

Mary did you get your shoes?

Cindy, so good to see you back posting. That should get those glucose counts back to normal soon.

Sandy, I thought you'd be out again in the garden. Sounds like things are looking a bit better now?

Bill,Allyn, what's up?

I'be been doing some spring cleaning, although it's never clean. And I started raking. Then I tried the blower and sucker method. That was too heavy.. So I"m going to try the mowing with bag. I want to get some flowers and some herbs planted by the pool. I love to go out and get rosemary and chives for chicken, I don't know what other herbs do well here. Anybody know?

Still a little chilly for swimming, but I'm sure it will be too hot too soon.

Glad to hear from you all again. Keep me posted!

Love,
Joy

O.K. I'll check in. All is well our way. Either maintaining or losing slowly but surely. I know if I tried harder things would move faster. But for now...I'm satisfied. Starting to have foot problems again...but I'm getting new shoes in a few days...so hopefully that will get better. If not...guess I'll get new inserts again. Either way...I just keep walking. We walked 8.5 miles downtown and on the Riverwalk today. That walk always makes me proud. Sure need to do yard work...and it's the perfect weather. cindy...take care of that glucose...that's scary stuff. Enough about me...who's next? mary

It's a 3-4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1545 sq. feet, two car garage and a decent sized back yard. I live right past Schertz, off I-35 and Weiderstein. Let me know if you or someone else may be interested in it. Thanks.

Hi all I have been really busy between Physical therapy and and the Live Oak Village Garden Club. There is so much to do in the spring. Just got back from Garden club convention in Corpus Christi.Had a great time.

I am finally able to start going to the gym again but only on the tred mill for right now. Still can't use the arm for anything with strength. I need to start losing again. I haven't gained but I should be still losing.

Carole what kind of home and what size. We are looking for a large 4 to 5 bedroom around 3000 sq. feet in the schertz area.

Time for me to get back on the wagon...I have been lax for far too long and have gained weight instead of losing :o(

Pop in and say hi everybody. Long time no chat. I've been reading team members blogs and commenting, but I do miss an occasional chat from the group, so if you will, take a minute and tell me one thing you plan to do this weekend for toward meeting your short term spark goals.

Love ya, Miss ya,

Hi all. Sorry I haven't been around. I've been spending weekends selling things, getting rid of things, etc. because I plan to either rent out my house or sell it this year. So that's taken up a lot of my time. I'll try and check in more frequently.

Congratulations, Sandy...on that brand new bundle of joy. A day later and she would have been born on my birthday. Glad to hear Bob is doing better. Also happy your surgery went well. Hope it doesn't give you pain too much longer.

Good seeing you too, Joy. We're going to the Gruene Hall Sweetheart Gospel Brunch. This is our 3rd time to go to the Gospel brunch. They have one every 2nd Sunday of the month. Great food and even greater entertainment. If you've never made it to Gruene, Texas...go. What a great little town. Gruene Hall is the oldest dance hall/honky tonk in Texas.

Hope ya'll have a nice Valentines Day too. mary

Hey Joy how are you doing? I have a new grand baby Kassidy Layne Little, 5lb 13oz. 17in. long. Born Jan 18th. She was three weeks early. I will post a picture soon. Bob is doing much better and becoming more active and not sleeping so much. The rest of the family is doing fine. I am slowly recovering from surgery. they released the top of my bicep tendon so it was a little harder than normal. It is a very slow recovery. I started PT Physical therapy last week. It hurts so bad. But with this no pain is no gain. It is good to talk to you all.

Sandy, how is your recovery going? How's Bob?, the garden? your kids?

Cindy,Karen Carole, where are you guys hiding out these days?

Mary, so glad you are posting everyday, huddling and commenting on blogs!

To all you new comers, welcome, please stop in and chat. We all learn from each other.
Any big Valentine plans?

Hi all good to see you all on even though I haven't been here. I am still very busy and don't have much time for the computer. Bob is still very ill and I haven't been to good myself. I will have surgery on my shoulder in about two weeks. I have a torn rotator cuff tear, bone spurs, and arthritis which he said they will scrape clean. This is a six month healing time. I am looking forward to being laid up that long. I can't do any exercising right now and feel bad about that. My computer doesn't work too well so I am on my laptop most of the time. I am moving in a couple months and this is not going to be easy when I will have my right arm velcrod to my side all the time and can't lift anything.
I will try to get on more since I will be laid up for a while. I hope I will be able to type. I have a new grand baby coming on Monday. The family is living with us right now. This is one busy house. I laid the rules down right off the bat. Kids can't use my computers and my tv doesn't do sports or anything that I don't like. LOL.
Talk to you all soon.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or however you celebrate it to all sparkmembers on the team. I'm in Ft. Worth where they got some snow yesterday. We made snowman as well as watched the kids open their presents. It's nice to be around family rather than be by myself at this time. Happy holidays !!

I have been such a slacker since fFiday. I got a cold and felt crappy then the weather got crappy, so I have not really been out walking or doing much of anything. I have gained some weight back, I can feel it!!! Ahhhh well, back to the drawing board!

Made it through Thanksgiving... acceptably. Went to California to visit my parents and knew going in it was going to be iffy, so we stocked up at the local grocery store. Made dinner for my parents one night and that went fairly well.

Of course, the fresh, delicious sourdough was always going to be my undoing, but hey I can splurge if I want.

Thanksgiving dinner was an exercise in restraint. A little bit of everything, but only a little, and no seconds. The hardest part was limiting the stuffing... my personal kryptonite. I LOVE STUFFING omg I love stuffing.

Came back around 5ish up from when I left, but now that I'm home, it's melting right off just like it did on the last trip we took. Now that I have two examples of out-of-routine chowing, it'll be a lot easier to deal with the inevitable weight gain--because now I know for sure it'll come off just fine when I get home.

I might feel differently if I were still trying to actively lose a lot, but since I'm pretty much at my maintenance weight now, I can relax a little. ;)

Yep, I'm getting the first taste of holidays without Dad. I understand that feeling well.

So everyone made it through thanksgiving?!
Any negative or positive changes with weight and or food choices? Or added exercise?

We might get some snow this week. Sounds beautiful. Of course SA, is not road worthy when the icy weather comes. So be careful.

There was a good article this morning about things you could do for people that don't cost a lot of money and healthier options.

Make chocolate covered pretzels, flavored oatmeal jars, variety of trail mixes, bath salts, spice mixes, and rice bags.
I might do one of these, seems like money is tighter than ever.

Well , look through the clouds, you might see some sunshine.

Blessings to all and thanks for sparking with me.

Hi everyone I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. There has been a lot going on here. I tend to go into a shell this time of year. My four yr old grandson died of cancer on Dec 17, 2003. We just celebrated his would have been tenth birthday on Nov. 24th. We all miss him a lot and deal with his passing in very different ways. I tend to disappear into the woodwork. It will get better. Three of my grand kids came over yesterday and helped me get the house decorated. I am kind of a scrooge right now. I will try and get on more often.

Yep, I went walking over by Cibolo Ranch, in Zuehl. It was a fun walk, not too bad.

The traffic coming home from BAMC to Cibolo up I-35 was stop and go but I made it in about an hour. The rain has put a damper on a lot of people's plans for this weekend but I hope to go to Boerne and do some walking and/or sightseeing this weekend. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Hey there,

Barb, have you caught up on your rest?

Carole, did you find some other kind of exercise to do instead of fighting the chaos?

Mary, Yes, I have done Leslie Sansones, WATP. In fact there are two teams soley devoted to WATP. I was inspired by our post master when I lived in PA. She completely changed her whole look over a years time. The last time I went in, I would not have known she was the same person, had I not been watching her progress. I asked her how she did it and she said videos of Leslie every night after work. So I got them. I use them on super hot days when outside is so unbearable. That's the beauty of her videos... take them on trips. do them in hotels. anywhere. And you don't even have to wear shoes if you don't want to.

I really miss my pool. I went riding the trike around the block last night. My little guy wiped out, cut his face up( was wearing a helmet). He said he was NEVER going again. I said, how about take off a day. He screamed NO, how about 2, NO how about 3 NO,...I got to 5 and he said, well maybe. So there's hope he will still be my great coach when he mends.

Be careful out on the wet roads today. Post when you can and tell us what the Thanksgiving plans are.

Joy

Has anyone here tried WALK AWAY THE POUNDS with Leslie Sansone? I found 2 old VCR tapes at a thrift shop. I did the 1 mile workout this morning. It's really a pretty good workout...especially if you never do that. LOL I also found the 3 mile tape...but I'd have to work up to that one. LOL I've already walked our dog as well. Now I need to get out and do a nice brisk walk...especially since the weather is so gorgeous and cool. Hope ya'll have a great day. mary

I heard the run sunday starts at 7:30 from Lyons Field, down Broadway to a mission and ends at the Alamodome. Just a guess.

The Bums worked at Math Counts for 6 hour today and then the devastating Spurs game, all after I biked 5 miles this morning. I couldn't get up to work at 5:30am tomorrow or I would know more.

You'll see what I mean by all the "artsy" additions. Plus the locks...and the beautiful grotto. Enjoy! mary

WE did our normal tuesday morning Riverwalk. The weather is simply beautiful down there. The new section of the Riverwalk starts on Lexington Street. Right behind the Holiday Inn Tropicana. It ends down by Josephine Street. I think eventually it will even go further. It's pretty. Different "artsy" things to keep you motivated to keep going. Just very little shade. And not many places with a public restroom. So that always sort of intimidates me. Normally we park in the King Williams District and walk towards downtown. Luckily Fred knows his way around the riverwalk in every direction. We change it up every so often. Our normal walk always involves a rest stop at Starbucks on our way back to the car. Time to relax and recharge. If you go often enough...you will start to see regular walkers and joggers...as well as groundskeepers, etc. Either way..it's a good workout. you are right, Barb...the sunken gardens will give you a good workout as well. Hope all are well. Check in...I love to see what everyone is up to. mary

The sunken gardens are great and I went while it was still dry. They are so pretty you'll get in your exercise fabulously!

Now I'll start doing the river walk...BUT I'm not ready for 7 miles. LOL! The new part is finished to walk, but everything to visit is not open yet. At least on my last visit.

Today I'm walking in the veteran's day parade with the Baseline Bums.

Congrats to you, Carole for getting those steps in one way or another. Joy...the trip to Dallas was great. Ate too much...but walked a ton...so no change in my weight. We did our Tuesday Riverwalk this morning. We've added part of the new Riverwalk onto our route...so we ended up walking a little over 7 miles. Ate lunch at Pasha afterwords. If you like Mediterranean food...it's great. I didn't finish my whole plate. Never do. And I think it's considered pretty healthy food. Sandy...hope you're feeling better every day. Now ya'll have me curious...I've got to go find out how much a soft beef taco is at TC. I do grab one of those every so often when out running around. I really don't want to know...but guess I'd better! mary

I've managed to go over 10,000 steps every day since Monday a week ago so that's a plus for me. I've been really bad about not sticking with my walking and wanted to change it up.

Sandy, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you start to heal and get back to your old self again. If you need anything, please let me know.

For actual cooking, you'll have to ask Allyn; all I know how to do is chop stuff up. I'd make a crappy head chef, but I rock as a sous chef--I have mastered the art of hacking up vegetables and meat. And it's fun, too. :)

Bill you are so smart. I know you are paying attention. I am greatful for your tips. Wow that is something. Here I was using spark people's entries on tC.s potatoe and egg... they have it listed in two places at 240 cals per serving and 248 per serving... so after I read your note, I went to TC.'s site... and it was at 400. Whole mackerel! I thought I was doing good with 248 for breakfast. Oh well, learn something new everyday.

You are right too, about not depriving your self of tasty foods... just go for the best of the worst.

Love your post Bill.

How about you and Allyn cook for the rest of us. :) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

"Bill,Chorizo and eggs? Chorizo is low in sodium?"

It is once you realize "low" is a relative term. ;)

Any processed meat is going to have some sodium in it--the trick is to find the lowest-sodium option, check the rest of the stats, and decide whether it's worth it. In my case it was, and since I nearly always drain chorizo while I'm cooking with it, I know I'm actually consuming less than the stats indicate anyway.

For comparison, two chorizo and egg breakfast tacos from Cabana cost 800 calories, 36 fat, 620 cholesterol, 2180 sodium, and 40 protein--so, almost a full day's sodium from those two tacos alone. And that's a ton of protein for those small tacos; I think that number might be a bit high.

My version of two chorizo and egg tacos costs 502 calories, 30 fat, 453 cholesterol, 418 sodium, and 22 protein. Add an ounce of cheese to each one and they come out to 582 calories, 36 fat, 473 cholesterol, 648 sodium, and 29 protein. As a bonus, my tacos are bigger than theirs by about an ounce and a half, and they're super filling.

All these ingredients came from HEB; no fancy shopping required:

Two ounces of San Luis Chorizo (with the rest of the chorizos)
Two Tia Cristina ready-to-cook white flour tortillas (by the crescent rolls in the refrigerator section)
Two large eggs (whichever brand you like)
A quarter cup of Kraft 2% milk shredded sharp cheddar cheese (optional)

So there's ways and ways, and honestly, sometimes I want a certain thing so badly that I'm willing to take the statistic hit... but unlike before this Spark thing, I'm no longer willing to take that statistic hit "no matter what." I always, always do the math now, and make informed decisions.

And then I go "well, hey, it's bad but it's not as bad as Cabana's, and I want my damn tacos." :)

Good morning/afternoon all, thought I'd check in. All is well here, I see it's not so good for other folks. I hope Sandy and you others get over your injuries soon.
I, too, am making an effort to get in 10,000 steps a day. What I don't do throughout the day I make up for on my treadmill every evening. This is my first week of doing this so I'll be interested to see if it helps with weight loss as mine seems to have stalled right now.
I hope everyone has a good weekend !!

Sorry to hear that you got injured Sandy!! Hope you heal quickly. Hubby is nursing a bum knee this week too. He is too stubborn to go to the doc though!! He blew out his right knee a couple years ago now it's his left that's swollen & painful.

I have been making the effort this week to walk my 10,000 steps every day and that effort has pushed me over 10,000 fitness minutes for the year. I will surpass my goal for the year next week!

you have me excited about wanting to see the sunken gardens now. I am afraid it will have to wait for a little while. I fell at the hospital as we were being walked back to where Bob was having his surgery. Which by the way went very well and he is doing fine. Me on the other hand not doing so well. I tore ligaments in my knee so I am down for a while. I have to go to an orthopedic doc for a follow up. I will know more then.

Hope all goes well for your husband's surgery, Sandy. Yes, the game was fun. unfortunately the SPURS lost that night. It was a real tight game...lost by 2 points in the last minute. I also got a t-shirt that the light guy threw to the crowd. Good old Sunken Garden. There was a great article in the Express News about a woman who used to live there as a child. Her Father was the caregiver there. I think she lives in California now. Her childhood home will be refurbished..I think that's right. You're right, Joy...it's quite a walk if you see the whole thing. We went over it in those baskets when we were kids. What an experience that was. Keep sparking, SA. mary

I have never been to the sunken gardens, I guess I need to go there. First day back to the gym in over a month. I feel like I am starting all over again. I did three hours today. Monday my hubby is having a bad hernia repaired so I won't get back to the gym before Wed or Thur. I sure enjoyed it and it felt great. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Bill,Chorizo and eggs? Chorizo is low in sodium? Sounds delicious.

Welcome Back Sandy! Post when you can.

Mary congrats on winning the tickets. How fun that must have been.

Went out to sunken gardens yesterday... They have water again, with fish. It's a hard walk with all those steps( on the old knees). But it gets you breathing I guess. You guys should check it out. The weather was perfect.

Keep writing fellow San Antonian friends!

Joy

Hello all, I am back from a months vacation. I had a blast and the changing of the colors was beautiful. I missed being home. I didn't have access to the internet very much as there was no service in the areas where I was. Hope you all have been doing well. I haven't had a chance to catch up on posts.

I'm still alive too. Just wish there was less of me saying hello. Ugh! Fred won SPURS tickets on the radio...so heading there tonight. We will probably go via park and ride. That in itself is an experience. Still not giving up on myself. We still do our Tuesday Riverwalk walk. Now with the new section open we've stretched the walk to about 6 miles. But I know I need to add more. Keep sparking everyone. mary

Mmm Angus burger... I wish I could figure out a way to fit one of those into the ol' meal plan, but it's just too much sodium and way too many calories for me.

I'll just have to stick with my homemade chorizo and egg and cheese tacos. Good thing I do love me some chorizo. ;)

Thanks Bill, Allyn, Cindy, Carole for letting us know you are all well and still sparking!

Kids got hit with the H1N1 this week.

I still managed to get some time in the freezing pool.

I do have to admit, though I am addicted to playing monopoly at McDonalds. I got one of those angus burgers( big mammas)... I cut it in half and ate one part for lunch and one part for snack.
The kids like the nuggets. And to my surprise, one said, NO, you eat McD...I want soup.--well I guess the flu has something to do with that, but I didn't get any Mc. today.

Hi all. Sorry I haven't checked in lately but I've been really busy.

I started a new job at a clinic at BAMC and, between adjusting to a new job, I've been doing some stuff around the house, moving furniture around, etc., long overdue. Now that it's starting to cool down, I'll be doing more yardwork and I've really been looking forward to that because I have some plans for what I want to do. It's just been too hot to do anything in the yard. So I'm glad it's finally cooling down.

Anyway, I'm still around. Thought I'd give a quick update.

Ankle is doing ok...I am walking 2 miles a day and back to using the elliptical without pain, so, it's all good.

Just not a lot to say these days, pretty much. Working, commuting, squeezing in cardio, doing the "maintenance weight" thing, playin the toy drums, same ol same ol.

Allyn's got us goin to a gym twice a week now--we joined Planet Fitness, and so far I'm really impressed with the price and the machine availability and the staff, and she loves the higher-quality machines... so now I guess I'm gonna try and bulk up my upper body while she thrashes their ellipticals and treadmills. ;)

Arms are hurting a bit today--my "strength training" so far has been pretty much all resistance, so it was weird throwing actual weight around. Nicely surprised how much weight I could do, though. All I gotta do now is figure out which machines help me build the pectoral area and I'm set.
