OH, his meds are already in bins---and there is a cabinet in the hallway outside the bathroom where they go---he got over it---probably sat there and thought---oh, I don't want my gd harmed by my meds! And he needs to get up and move as much as possible---I think he is getting better but milking it for all its worth----grrrrrr---hoping we get the MRI done today but keep checking to make sure that place is not closed today, too. My gd is almost 5 so she could get into a bin easily.
I am off today---so hoping to work on the dining room today or the spare bedroom---see what I feel like working on after we get back from the MRI.

Lecates, I was wondering, if your husband is still grumbling about the meds being in the kitchen instead of around him, perhaps he can put it in a clear bin by his side? I find bins in opaque bins just get "forgotten" by me and maybe if it's clear your gd won't think it's toys in there. If she's really young, maybe something that locks. Anyway, just a thought.

Sorry you had to move unexpectedly after 13 years. That is a lot of work as it can be a lot of accumulation! We would be in sooo much trouble here if we had to move suddenly! It's great your son helps you. I have a feeling my daughter is going to grow up to be helpful like your son. She already is reminding and helping me do laundry!

I did it! I mopped the areas I could, ie. that did not have clutter, which was about 1/4 of the available floor if there wasn't all this clutter. It was not so hard as I used a pack of 20 floor wipes I got from Dollar Tree awhile back. I worked up a good sweat and the wipes were each black after use and I'd toss and pull out the next one. 20 for a buck, well worth it!

Our kitchen is too cluttered to have more than one person trying to clean but when I get it decluttered, I will definitely enlist the kids for help, Lecates, good idea!

Today's project is sweeping and cleaning the parts of the kitchen floor that I can get to.
It's gotten progressively dirtier and stickier. I'll have to get down and scrub by hand much of the areas. So not looking forward to it!

Lecates,I'm glad moving worked for you! Sometimes I think nothing short of a fire would work for us. :( But of course I so don't want a fire! I'm so snowed under with clutter there's no way we could sell our house and move although that's what we want to do. Years ago a realtor was showing us places but we never got our house decluttered to sell and so our dreams of moving ended. And housing prices have gone back up now. But it's okay, it wasn't meant to be back then. I see now what we were so not ready to move.
Our house is small but made much smaller by our clutter. I think it'd be twice the square footage without the clutter. My husband and I are both clutter-ers. It's bad in that neither one of us wants to get rid of stuff. It's good in that neither one of us blames the other for the clutter so there's marriage harmony. lol

Sticki, the impetus for me was moving into a house---we lived in a trailer for 31 years and had accumulated a lot of stuff---my son really helped---and we made my dh get rid of stuff---and some stuff we hit under bags of garbage so he did not know we got rid of it---and he never has missed a single thing---LOL---but I still need to go thru other stuff--now, if we could only get rid of some of the excess Christmas stuff we have not used at this house---sigh.

Oh Caranee1 I totally hear ya! I am the same way except I think you are farther along organization-wise than me. I still have to step on things to get to places around the house. :/

I can relate to your frustration with pain disrupting your plans. With me it's low energy due to a health condition. I see a doctor Monday so hopefully we'll come up with a plan and that will change somewhat.

It's good to see your post. It's nice to see people post who are near the same place as me in getting rid of their clutter as well as those much further along who kindly lend support too!

Sounds like you are a good candidate for using the timer and doing things in small doses---good for you in dropping off those books. Try working on one spot at a time---one drawer or shelf at a time---when you are done, you can step back and know that it is done---little by little it will get done and I think that will help you feel more in control. I think we all have felt overwhelmed by out clutter at one time or another so what you said makes perfect sense to us.
Okay, last night I was just tired of all the stuff dh has piled around him---so made him go put his meds away where they belong---he can get around okay to get himself food and drinks so he can get up to take his meds, too---plus I did not like that they were down where my gd could get hold of them if he went to the bathroom---he watches her tonight so I really felt it was important for those to be put away now---I don't think he was too happy about it but I put it to him about her so he did it for her, not for me!

I have the same problem in procrastinating about actually taking the stuff to the thrift store. I've gotten a lot better about getting rid of things, but they pile up in the corner of the living room. Same problem with the aerosol cans, light bulbs, batteries and toxic substances. They have been in the back of the car for about a month! And already there are new containers filled with more.

I did take a box of books to my church yesterday. They'd been in the car for months. I was passing by and just decided that even if there was nobody there I would leave the box with a note. It was an amazing relief.

Whenever I actually accomplish something like that I feel so good. It makes me wonder why I wait so long, and each time I vow to stop doing that. But it seems to have become a habit with me. Part of my problem is that I have a pain condition that I need to accommodate. I can set my goals but often can't reach them because of this. And then I lose focus and half the time forget what I was working on!

I am working on not getting down on myself for it. I really need to accept the fact that I just can't do things I used to in the ways that I used to. My psyche hasn't caught up with that. It makes for a self-destructive and nonproductive situation. I have to remember that my priorities are to manage and to work to improve my pain levels, to get in good shape and to lose some weight. I am making good progress there and should be focusing on that -- patting myself on the back.

But, the consequences of my disrupted plans distress me no end. I hate living in a house that's so messy that I don't feel comfortable having people over. Besides, I like it when there's order in the chaos and things are clean. I do keep up with the kitchen and bathroom and recently reorganized my closet so I can actually get to my clothes without stepping on shoes and boots!

Next I plan to tackle more sorting and getting rid of stuff. Problem is I have quite a few pieces of clothing that I've hung on to and it's turned out to be a good thing to have done. Some of my clothes I have had for about 20 years and they still look good on me! The trick would be to be able to distinguish between those that are like that and those that aren't.

I often wonder what I was thinking when I bought some of this stuff. I look at it and recognize that they are clothes that never were and never will be my style. And shoes...it's rare that I can find a pair of shoes I can actually wear. I can't stand to have my feet hurt and so most of the shoes I have ever bought have sat in my closet for a long time before I've gotten rid of them because they are pretty and I would like to wear them.

Well, I have talked your ear off. I hope some people can relate to what I've said. It always helps to know other people are in the same boat.

Do they use the clothes for quilting? The boys might be able to wear dark pants after zipper and buttons off, but the girls, no way. And 10 is not unusual for Amish families.

Wow, Judy, that's quite a trek to drop off the donations. How very appreciative they must be. Maybe if you do it on a regular basis it should be once a month. Declare a day like first Tuesday of the month or first day of the month or something and call it "Epic Journey Day" or "Epic Transfer Day"! Something humorous might help you remember it and plan for it. ; )

I'm glad you like the "Wednesday Weed Out" day name. If it were on a Tuesday, I would have called it a different name though. I was planning Tuesday to be the day at first but couldn't get myself out the door to do it. Sometimes I just have to go with what activity feels right for that day and Wednesdays seems to feel right for weeding out for me.

Btw, if Tuesday was the day of the week I had chosen to go to Goodwill I would have called it "Tuesday Trash and Treasure" day because Tuesdays are curbside trash collection days for us and then it would also be the day I would transfer my former treasures onto Goodwill for someone else to treasure. "One man's trash is another man's treasure" and all that. : )

sticki ;I like your name you picked out ' weed out day " I shall adopt a day". and call it that also my problem I let the bags pile up in the downstairs. I have a so many boxes of clothing for the Amish family I am friends with that I get from the center for them plus 2 full boxes of shoes & boots I get the darker colors, I have the director of the free clothing give away save them for me.She has 10 children. I must wait for some of the weather to clear up as they live over one & one half hours away, plus it is way out in the country. My brother will travel with me to help out

Thanks, Lecates, I'm glad to have my glasses on my face again too. :) And paying off that huge fine hurt the wallet but it's a huge weight off my psyche so I guess I have to say it's worth it. Have fun at water aerobics! I tried it once and liked it. I will try it again when I have my house more in order and when the weather is warmer as it's outdoor pool for us.

I tried to find time to go drop off a huge bag of clothes to Goodwill yesterday but couldn't do it. This morning (Wednesday) it was easy right after volunteering in my daughter's classroom. So I'm picking Wednesdays to be "Wednesday Weed Out" days for dropping off stuff to donation.

Today is sweeping the kitchen floor, folding and distributing clean clothes, and clearing the kitchen table which is accumulating stuff again!

Well, I did get the dishes put in the dishwasher---but not much else---probably nothing much tonight either as I have water aerobics and a late day at school---but might try to find a small area---oh, I know, have to take trash out tonight so will empty all the trash and try to make a sweep to make sure I have all that needs to go out to the trash can---that will help.

The fines stop accruing once they're renewed so thank goodness the librarian was able to override the renewal limit and give us a couple weeks breathing room to find the books!

Washed two loads of laundry but folding they need to be folded and dispersed so that's still to do tonight.

No luck with books or piles tonight - just ran out of time!

Today's project is looking for overdue library books. I have about 3 or 4 to find. Also do a couple loads of laundry to catch up. And go through a pile at the foot of the kitchen table.

My project for today is to put the Christmas ornaments away. Yep. Christmas ornaments. Sad but true. They have been off the tree and downstairs waiting to be returned to their designated area since late December.

Good job Judy! It sounds like you had such a productive day! I need to do something like you describe with the night stand. I put my glasses on there two nights ago before bed and haven't seen them since! My project today is to do a thorough search for them. My contacts are backups but I really need my glasses!

The other thing on my to-do list is pay library fines. :(

General household maintenance stuff like laundry as well. Off I go!
