Having hose issues on my washer---and wouldn't you know it---all 3 of my sons are working---but one just called a friend and he is going to come shortly.

Yeah. I think some major life events have hit me hard. Additionally the seasonal depression, which I am just starting to figure out, and I recently got another diagnosis, too. So it's hard to focus, and can be overwhelming.

Did my china hutch instead yesterday. Today I went to the gym to get a workout program and ran some errands---then found out I have to go to school by 3 to work a basketball game--so right now I am trying to declutter some emails.

Getting through documents and filling out forms :| I've started an online course so am re-thinking my home office space to accomodate more close study of things while at the computer. Current desk is in the middle portion of the living room and it's distracting having people (or even animals) walk through when i'm trying to concentrate.

Glad you are feeling better---so am I---and once they are done, make sure your son helps organize his closet---that way he knows where things go and where he wants things to be.
I finally got all the papers shredded and all the ones left organized in the file box---woohoo!---was really dreading that job but I cleared off the coffee table and sat on the couch and organized everything into piles---much easier to file and figure out a system---decided all payment bills go in one file, all household bills in another, bank stuff, insurance stuff, retirement stuff, tax folder---much easier to just drop things into major folders. And brought by granddaughter's stuff back out so she can have them to play with tomorrow---we will have her if we have no school again tomorrow.

Hope you're feeling better, Lecates! I've been not feeling the best lately either. Partly that time of the month, partly catching a cold but sleeping in this weekend seemed to have helped that. And I'm back to eating better which is making a difference in head fog and tiredness.

I've been doing about two loads of laundry a day for the last couple days. That's barely keeping up with the household esp. since kids had their sheets changed. I'm just out of space for the clean clothes. Fortunately closet organizer builders are coming tomorrow! So maybe it won't be so much of an issue after that. AT least for my son.

My project today is to make space so the closet people have room to work. I need to clear half his bedroom so they can install the drawers and shelves in the closet space.

All the snow we've been getting is making it hard for me to get things done - great xcountry skiing... lol!

But the grey is making me feel less motivated due to the SAD - sitting by my bright light now - but noticing the days getting a bit longer is motivating.

I'm either going to ski or do a DVD for my workout today. if I do the DVD I will get more done around the house! But either case I'm going back to "my list" and trying to knock some off it. Some projects, fix the doorbell, put up a new motion light. Also need to "declutter" my finances truly.

I know sometimes I think it would be easier to live somewhere like San Diego because you don't need so many different types of clothes. Plus when you play a lot of sports... you also need clothes/gear for each season for those LOL.

I'm slowly making it through the list - more things added on here and there. I think the initial organization of thing is hard but once done it's easier from then on. I just keep moving so have to keep starting over... but with this basic organization hopefully it can be carried forward even after I move again, and I'll be moving with stuff I am actually using too.

Still have not done the photo/video organization. I really think part of it is a mental block as I've not touched a lot of it since I got laid off from my job doing it.

Lecates, sounds like a good manageable goal to fold towels and clothes. Such a normal goal! I aspire to that.

Tri, my to do list gets crazy long as well. Right now, I've got blinders on and am just focusing on laundry but the list is growing!

Lecates, I love your idea of donating the blankets to animal shelters. What a GREAT idea! Hubby loves animals, so he would be willing to give up his ragged blankets to them, I think.

I haven't had the courage today to do anything about making space yet. No laundry either as there's no space for clean ones and I'm scared of starting big piles again. The foot of the bed is looking amazing. Still has piles of STUFF but the clothes part of it is disappearing so I can actually SEE what stuff I've had at the foot of the bed.

I found a library book that my son borrowed and couldn't find to return ages ago. We probably long ago paid for it already. But it's still nice to figure out what happened to it and be able to donate it back to the library. Ha.

Around here, you never know which clothes you will need---like last week, it was 11 degrees on Tuesday with below zero wind chill---and on Saturday is was in the upper 60's and had the front door open on Saturday. Good idea to wait.
Another busy day for me---my aim is to fold towels and clothes in the dryer tonight when I get home.

I'm trying to declutter my "to-do" list - seems to get longer each day - frustrated with logistical stuff with health insurance and the like - tired and feel overwhelmed. I did get the living room cleaned yesterday and the bedroom sorted - ha, seems like as soon as I get the summer/spring clothes organized and put away, I'm going to have to pull them out again.

Speaking of, I know I will have to go through them again, I'm a different size now (kind of like the workout clothes in the other thread). I'm really bloated this week so am going to wait to do it until I've returned to my normal size.

Do you store sets together? Do you really need all those extra blankets and sheets? You know the drill---and old blankets are greatly welcomed at animal shelters for the dogs. How about buying some space bags--you know, the ones that the vacuum sucks the air out of them---that really helps with bulking items like comforters and blankets.

My decluttering project today is more laundry. I hope to do at least three loads of wash nad dry and fold. The challenge will be finding places to put the clean wash once folded.

So I'll go through my daughter's shirt and tops drawer with her and weed out clothes as it's jammed packed and there are more of her clothes going through the wash looking for a home.

I'll go through the linen closet and figure out how to make space for the sheets, pillow cases, blankets and towels I'm washing but have no where to go after they're folded. It'll be a challenge because I suspect we're truly out of space there.

Good luck with everyone's decluttering project today!

Well the closet has a washer and dryer in it, so I moved up the original shelf and bar for clothes so I could hang tops and pants in there normally (without dragging on the washer/dryer). I moved it up 8 inches, so the clothes hang normally, but I don't think I am going to add the shelf now as a result. With the space left I would have one 11.5 inch shelf and one 10 inch shelf way up by the ceiling, so I don't think it would be that usable. I thought about moving the original shelf and bar back down so I could add the new shelf, but I'd rather be able to hang clothes in there normally/wrinkle free so I'm leaving it the new way, with just the one shelf.

Loooong list of things for today. Got my diagnosis yesterday - maybe my cleaning and whatnot is my attempt to feel like I'm more in control of things. LOL. But at least I can get things done. Adding another shelf to a closet for more storage.

Seawave, the chicken with salsa in the crockpot sounds good! I can see it being useful for burritos, casseroles and so on. What cut of chicken do you use for it?

Penumbra - hope you had good luck with the christmas ornament project. We finally just put ours away this weekend. I think we're the last on our block to have a Christmas tree at the window and lights on our house. It was getting a little embarrassing but oh well, the kids loved it.

TriBabe, hope you are back to health!

Lecates, you rock with all that you were able to accomplish!

Tomorrow the recycling gets picked up so I hope to go through some paper stuff and throw it in the recycling bin as well as being able to break down some cardboard boxes and put it in there once I've gotten rid of the stuff that was in it. Also continuing my laundry washing and putting away.

emoticon I got thru 3 drawers of paper work and shredded 3 bags full this weekend---next pile is one I will have to see what I need to keep in it---more recent stuff---but thinking most of it can be shredded, too. I also cleared off a kitchen counter and rearranged it, caught up on all laundry, and dishes are in the dishwasher right now.

TriBabe – hope you’re feeling better

Lecates – congrats on completing your “tablecloth” challenge. In my case, it’s a “bin” challenge, as we have plastic bins and my DH stuffs everything in them. I’m trying to get him in the habit of actually putting things away, but it seems a losing battle.

Sticki – contrats on the dresser drawers. Having things be easier to do helps to continue doing it, and being able to open drawers is definitely top of the list!

I haven't gotten much further in my kitchen for various reasons. And my chicken cooked in my slow cooker, I fell asleep, and my guys ate something else for supper! So I have a lot of chicken for today and to freeze. By the way, I think it was in this group someone asked what the recipe was -- it's an SP recipe, Slow Cooker Salsa Chicken (871817). It's a stand-by for me, as we use it in all things Tex-mex (burritos, tacos, etc.) as well as serving it on rice with salad as well as using it as a base for soup. Yum!

Today will be menu and grocery day, as the car was at the garage yesterday.

Hey Lecates, I heard on the radio about a month ago that the Salvation Army has started a shredding service where they will shred it in front of you and I think they charge by the pound. So maybe the SA has that near you or some other place has it.

Congrats on the tablecloth cleanup!

Great plan, Sticki!
My goal today is to go thru stuff that was on the dining room table that I just put in the tablecloth and pulled off the table to clear it---really bad thing to do---LOL---I think most of it will go to the trash.
And to start on the shredding project awaiting me---lots to go thru for that---but definitely one that will have to be done in stages so not to burn up my shredder---LOL

I wish there was a "like" button because I like everyone's goals. I managed to make a bit of room in front of my bedroom dresser so that now I can open all the drawers with nothing blocking them. My goal for this weekend is to go through my clothes and weed out the ones I don't wear and put away the ones I do wear in the dresser drawers.

I really want to get my photo equipment organized this weekend. It warmed up and rained and ruined all the snow, so now that I can't ski maybe I can catch up on stuff I need to do. LOL.

That is a goal---a good one---and I know you can do it!
My project today is just to relax when I get home---had a busy week and I need to refresh---it takes a lot of energy to keep going in the cold and my body just needs a rest.

Thanks Lecates, I'm trying to follow your advice. I just wish I had *room to work. It's so limiting being surrounded by piles and nowhere to put anything away. I will have to take a fresh look around today and get rid of two garbage bags of stuff out of this house. That's my project for the day.

OH, yes, you do need to weed out some clothes! And again, this is something that can overwhelm---set that timer! work on one drawer at a time. Get your 4 bags ready---or empty baskets---LOL---Anything that you love, just put in a pile on the bed to be put away in that drawer. Don't like it, put in donate bag, too big or too small, one for storage. And the last one is trash for things that are stained or need fixing---you have too much to really fix it is you do not love it. And then there is the Maybe pile. As you go along, I think your donate pile will grow as you realize I really do not wear this because I don't like it. This can be done for everyone eventually. And for the kids, need storage bins when you finish to put those future clothes in---just make sure to label the sizes so you can go to them when needed. On those maybe things---once you are finished and have everything you like put away neatly---really go back and look at them to see if you really need to keep them or should they be donated---if you decide to keep them---fold them in a special way or hang them backwards if in the closet---if in 3 to 6 months(you choose), if it still is not folded or hung the normal way, then you know you can donate it. Again, do not let this overwhelm you---set that timer! I think once you have things nicely put away, you will do laundry more often and you won't need as much. Fly lady says to make sure you do one load of laundry a day so that you do not get that mountain of clothes and feel frustrated about it. It is true---I hate doing laundry all day and prefer to do it in stages---but I will tell you, sometimes you do get busy and have to do multiple loads---like when you need to strip all the beds or someone gets sick.
Glad to be of help---I have been there---still have my clutter spots but then I know what to do to handle them and I don't feel overwhelmed any more.

Lecates, thank you for your thoughtful reply. I saw your reply to my other post too. Thank you for taking the time out to be encouraging and supportive. I so appreciate it.

Tonight, while working on the pile of laundry lining our hallway, I tried to stay conscious and mindful to see what exactly is it that's keeping me from thoroughly finishing laundry and able to empty the laundry baskets in the hallway.

One apparent obstacle was that we don't have enough space to put all our clothes away. When I go to distribute clothes into the linen closet and my dresser drawers it's a fight to jam them in. Closets are cluttered, drawers are full. So I tend to stop once our drawers are full and we just start leaving them in baskets and fishing for clothes there when we want clean clothes. Why fish for clean clothes there when all the clothes drawers are full of clean clothes? Well, not all the clothes fit (too big - future size for kids or too small - outgrown or wrong season),
And it seems to me I may have *too* much clothes though it seems I never can find something to wear. I counted over 30 pairs of underpants tonight in my underwear drawer. Is that unreasonable? I don't know how much is a "normal" amount. If someone wants to clue me in that would be helpful. It seems a lot to me but yet, sometimes I run out of them because I don't do laundry for a spell. I think counting the ones in the dirty laundry pile as well as my drawers I easily have over 40, maybe even 50 pairs. Hmm. That high number... even I can see I need to go through and weed out some.
I folded and stacked all my underpants and suddenly I had more space in the drawer where previously I had a hard time opening and closing them so I think that's another reason for having no space, not folding clothes properly but stuffing them sometimes. I also found a couple beauty/skincare items in the drawer that didn't belong so I took them out.
So I think tomorrow's project (or today for those of you in a different time zone) is that I will go through my dresser drawers and weed out items so I'd have more space and also fold nicely the items that are in there.

Good luck to the rest of you on your projects for today!

Did some more kitchen declutter today, and three big pots of turkey broth to freeze. I'll be making some soup tomorrow with some of the turkey broth.

I'm still in my kitchen zone, and one of the things I want to do is take off the top cupboard doors. Some of them are hung awkwardly so you have to reach around them to get to things. Now the challenge is getting my son to do them tomorrow afternoon after he gets home from school, because I am banned from lifting things until I see the doc on Friday, and probably for a week or two still after that. I'll also be sorting my utensil drawers tomorrow.

Hmmm, sounds like you need to ask for some help in getting those baskets delivered and put away. Are your kids old enough to do this? I am absolutely sure your dh is capable of doing his and maybe helping the kids. You might even make it a game for the kids and have them race piles to the rooms for you and your dh to put away. I know you need to do laundry but you really need to put those clean clothes away first--or at least empty 2 of the baskets while a load is in the washer---you will feel better about that.
On the closet organization, that sounds great---but you have to set the example for them, too---the piles of laundry are not the example---but I think you know that. And ask for his imput in how to organize it---that might help him use it more often.
I did leave you a post on how to work on that kitchen organization on the other topic you posted on---glad to have you on board.
If I don't go to water aerobics tonight due to the cold, my challenge is to pay the bills tonight.
