Hi, I'm new on this team - just joined yesterday - I hope I'm not butting in. I just wanted to answer the topic question to keep myself on track today.
Today we had someone from Closet Works over to discuss the closet for my son's room. They're going to install shelves, hanging rods and two sets of drawers. The hope is when we tell him to clean his room and put away his clothes he won't be so lost and challenged. We gave them a check and they will come back to build it in about 3 weeks. I'm so excited!

It's my daughter's birthday today so we'll be out of the house much of the afternoon doing fun things. But I hope to get a few loads of laundry done and somehow make the large piles of clean laundry lining the hallway in baskets folded, and put away. That's been a project for weeks now but I never seem to be able to make the pile of clean clothes disappear. I'm not sure why. I guess because I keep washing more and piling it on.

Anyway, that's my project for today - a continual project, I'm afraid.

2,523 Days since:  Inertia - decluttering every night now.

I like the zone approach---I do find some of FlyLady stuff to be helpful---but often her plans for the day just do not work for my schedule when I am super busy.

I'm back to the zone approach, and it's the kitchen today. My project will be to get all of those things that are in bags from the bulk health food store, put them in jars, and label them. My DH went to the store this past week-end, and so there's a lot!

The one thing about fair weather friends is that they disappear on their own---and not worth the trouble to find them again after the bad stuff passes.

Well I've been working in her house so much that I've not been focused on the job hunt. My goal was to get her renovation work done that I'd committed to do (and not commit to anymore), then clean, organize my stuff then focus on the job hunt. I'm at the cleaning/organizing stage now.

I didn't commit to the closet project but when she ripped the big hole in the wall for the door, I knew I'd be the one finishing it.

Speaking of decluttering I've been realizing that's one thing in my life I need to declutter- doing all the work for everyone else while my life sits in th background. Also keeping only friends who are not just fairweather friends in my life.

I've made progress. Most if not all of the tools and construction related things are picked up and put away. Now, I just need to figure out where to put my stuff. I have another closet now, but it's very small. I'm getting worn out from doing this all day, so I'm not sure how much headway I'll make on organizing my own stuff today. The good part is, at least I can GET to my stuff now, and can focus on it now.

Yeah I thought about posting pics/blogging, I may do that. The cleanup is the first thing, I've been tired of living in the mess for a long time now. I haven't taken pictures because it has been such a mess, lol, would not look that impressive.

Am having my morning tea then will start in on it all. And my Mom IS helping to clean it up.

I just reorganize my closet for the seasons---the sleeveless tops are now at the back---I do need to flip my dh's shirts---long sleeve towards the front and short to the back---I already did that with his work shirts---and around here, you never know what the weather could do and you need something cooler when a really warm day comes up---been known to happen around here.

By closet renovation, there was a closet that opened to the dining room on the other side of the bedroom. We opened up the wall so there will be a door from the bedroom, so that can be used from the bedroom side. My Mom wanted to wall up the door to the dining room, but I told her to leave it, that way when no one is using the guest bedroom she can still access/use the closet from the dining room side.

Will have to do organizers on the side so it can still be accessed from either side, but could probably still do a bar across in the middle. It's not big but does add some space; the bins I bought yesterday can be put in there.

I'm not really going to be able to unpack my clothes until the new closet is renovated. Because I really don't have anymore drawer space. There is actually a long closet in the room already, but a washer/dryer has been put in there. I'm also going to raise the rod in that closet so that I can hang stuff in there too.

I have some short sleeved and sleeveless exercise tops, but can't really put those into storage since I go to the gym, too.

My Mom hoards, so, no space in the cupboards. LOL. I'd rather have the sports food next to the sports gear and accessible anyway, as I don't really eat these products unless I am playing sports (before/after/during, sort of part of my gear).

The rolling cart is a good idea, but I had to leave two of them in Seattle, no space to bring them.

For the office things, you might want to invest in one of those plastic rolling carts with multi drawers--you can often catch them on sale and would be moveable if you wish to take it with you. Take it your mom's cupboards don't have a space for you to store that energy food stuff upstairs? Good idea to split the exercise stuff into categories--easier for you to pull out what you want and to put it away---and yes, easier for smaller totes to be loaded---on the back and space wise, too.

Well my sports gear is mostly what is going into the bins. Clear, medium sized and labeled (if I can find my labeler... grrr). I will have a bin for biking, cross country skiing/snowshoeing, running, swimming, and gym fitness/recovery products. The main ones I'd want quick access to right now would be the latter three.

Before, my sports equipment were all in 1-2 large bins, disorganized. So this will make them easier to access, but also I think the next time I will move it will be easier as well because the smaller plastic bins would probably be easier/lighter to move and fit around other things than one large one.

I also need to have smaller bins to store sports "food", gu packets, clif bars, recovery drink mixes such as NUUN etc. I have quite a bit of these, because I buy in bulk packs, and ended up getting more bulk packs here since the ones I had were in Seattle, and since moving from there now I have 2x the amount. I don't know if I will put these smaller bins inside a larger bin, if that makes any sense, or how to store these things.

I've got one underbed box for clothes, might need another one or put very summery ones into a separate labeled bin in the basement. I honestly don't have many regular clothes left - mostly sports clothes (big surprise lol).

The other major areas are bathroom products and office/computer stuff - will probably compartmentalize into more bins there too - hair products, face products, etc. I don't have a LOT of stuff but still I want it organized. I will further organize with plastic baggies inside each.

All my office products right now are in a milk crate for the time being so needs improvement there. Rather than moving my temp office area into the dark basement - which would probably enhance my SAD - I opted for a smaller desk area on the main floor near a window. Therefore I will have to get creative with using space - I'm using a foldable card table, have my printer under the desk. I don't want the office "desk" cluttered but will probably need access to pens/paper clips etc. I will probably do any sketching at a different desk to keep things clear. Maybe a mobile/portable organizer for the office supplies that I can stow away when not in use?

Since this is just a temporary arrangement, I want to spend the minimum but want it neat.

Stacked would probably be the easiest ---but if you want to get into them, maybe you could build shelving to hold the sizes you buy---and make sure you attach labels to the outside so you can find things easier.

Continuing organizing my stuff. Just strange, that all my stuff can fit in a couple cars/minivan. Still, it's a pain in the butt to organize ALL your stuff no matter how much it is. I'm going out today to buy some inexpensive clear plastic bins. I have things sorted into clear plastic trash bags for now, so just need to transfer them into the bins. Then figure out where I will store the bins. Basement is an obvious choice, but not the most convenient for getting things I frequently use, so it may get split up.

I also don't know what to put the bins on. Bookshelf? Stacked on floor? This isn't my house so I can't exactly arrange things to my exact preference.

Great job on that closet cleanout. I have off today so plan on doing a bit of decluttering--have some papers from doctor's visit last week that need to be thrown away and want to return books I have finished down to my neighbor's---that will get them out of my house. Then I hope to declutter some leaves in the yard--LOL---and maybe burn some more branches that have come down if not too windy---it was too windy to play with fire yesterday.

I bought something that I hope will allow me to store the plastic containers in one spot---how do we accumulate so many of them---and I do use all sorts of sizes so hate to get rid of any til they really bad.

My project today is to move the sewing machine into the laundry room. In order to do this I need to empty the table that's beside the dryer. Originally I intended to use that table to fold clothes, but it has ended up just being a dumping ground. I'm finally learning that if something in the house doesn't work for me, I don't need to beat myself over the head trying to force myself to adapt to it, I need to change the arrangement! Time for a change!

Still working on the back room, shedding 35 items a week, with Sunday night being the weekly "weigh-in." It's 10:30 and I still have 4 items to go, and I'm tired and have to go to work in the morning, so will finish tomorrow. Just too tired tonight - in addition to the decluttering, I did some re-arranging of furniture, lots of lifting and pushing and pulling. (And yes, I'm finally starting to be able to tell a difference!)

At least you are making progress!
My son and DIL came over yesterday and helped me rearrange the living room for the winter---had to fight off a lot of dust bunnies---LOL---so still have some decluttering to do in there as we had dinner so I did not get to tweak that room---but I got a lot accomplished this both in the yard and in the house.

I'm still doing my weekend declutter of 35 items - have done 33, have 2 to go. This is my 7th week to do this. Very tired but also very proud of myself. Today got rid of some of my mother's things (she passed in 2005!)

It was a messy day at my house---my 2 youngest sons were over to redo my bathroom from 9 AM til 8PM---but I have a new vanity, a new floor, new flooring and new faucet. Still can't put everything back in there as one son will be coming over to replace baseboards---then it will be done---Now I have to think about painting in there---but nice not to have to bend way over to use the sink---our old vanity was very short.
