Susan, go with the blue and white fabric---there, your conundrum is solved--and you can blame me in the future if you decide it's not what you want---LOL
Now to unpack, do laundry, and put everything away that I brought home

Tina, I thought you were in PA, not NC.

Yesterday, the Little Ones I babysit helped me pull out the old torn wicker from two old, but beautiful dining room chairs that came from my mom's house...which probably came from HER mom's house...etc.
I'm not going to replace the wicker, but I think I'll put a nice piece of wood over the 'hole' and upholster it. I'm currently deciding how to do it.
I have a crazy-quilted wall hanging that I think my mom made, that I do not hang. I've been eyeing it to see if it would make nice seat covers. I think it would....but. The dark rich colors are more appropriate for winter time. Wouldn't feel summery, but those chairs and a small claw-foot table which goes nicely with them, is looking beautiful in a cozy corner of my enclosed front porch. And the velvety look of the fabric, doesn't sound 'porchy'.
Then, I've been thinking about decorating the front porch with blues and whites. I've found some pillows of just the right shade for the two wicker chairs I have.
So then I thought, OH! Maybe I could find blue and white fabric for a summery feel!

THEN I thought, maybe I could NOT attach the cushion and make one side appropriate for winter, and the other side for summer. I have a nice piece of material that would make a nice trim piece for both sides of the cushion. But I bet the cushions would tumble off often enough to be irritating?

Just now, I came across the Joann's website and found some beautiful blue and white paisley material....

I'm horrible at making decisions and I am purposing to not get so emotional over the decision that I have a stroke. haha.

It encourages me to know that my daughter thought that corner was very pretty with those particular two chairs and table, so it's probably worth putting some loving thought into.

I received two compliments on my backyard recently. Both people separately noted how I have a place for Everything. A vegetable garden area, a play area for little visitors, a campfire area on the patio, with another corner of the patio with tables and seating. All lined with a flower garden and trellis. Not to mention the driveway area and shed near the back.
I enjoyed the compliments, especially when they came from unexpected sources. We've been adding something each year since we moved into the house in Winter 2012. It is really coming together, despite having very little money to invest.

The Littles are on vacation so I won't babysit for a couple of weeks. Perfect time to scrape the house! I'm determined to make progress toward painting.

Susan, as long as you like it, it's just right and shows your creativity.
Boy, I wouldn't want to clean all that space but I always dreamed of a huge house.
My house is just right for my Dh and I. I love the cabinet space, having a dining room, and a screened in front porch. I do miss having a second bathroom but do like ours now that we have totally redone it.
I am finally home and my car is emptied. I will work on unpacking tomorrow. It was a long day of driving.

How resourceful! And I bet it is even lovelier than a premade store bought kitchen. Lots of imagination going into it. Very unique.

Our first home (in OH, bought in 2002 with just us and a dog, later adding 3 kiddos) that we just moved out of last summer was a work in progress for a long while. It was original 70's 3 bed 1 1/2 bath 1450 sq ft bi-level with newer carpet from the 90's. We eventually touched every part it. I was sad to have to leave all the hard work we put into it after finally getting everything *just right.* I am so blessed to be in our new home - a 2800 sq ft new build that actually has character, but modern features. I love my 9ft kitchen island! We were so blessed when Hubby got a dream job in NC last year. We are slowly making it just right for us. That's a lot of sq footage to fill - and to clean! Still working on organizing some areas like closets and the pantry. Lots of space for clutter to settle too. We got rid of a lot of stuff before the move, but I just KonMari-ed my clothes and books. Going to work on the next phase soon.

So today I will be working on decluttering and cleaning the island and coffee table, finish my goal planner for August and doing some laundry.

Tina, I DO love my kitchen. When hubby and I used to discuss what kind of home we would like, a large kitchen and a nice front porch were my dream. Our first house was tiny. This one is spacious. I've been grateful for both and am definitely enjoying this one to the full for as long as I am blessed to have it! In actuality, there is nothing fancy about it. Other people would probably think it's low quality. But...I.don't.care.

The only thing 'new-ish' about it is the baking center, and those aren't even kitchen cupboards. They are three BATHROOM cabinets with a temporary counter top.
This house used to have 4 apartments in it, and we found the best set of kitchen sink cabinets and upper cupboards from all the apartments and installed them in the main kitchen. My favorite cabinet is a free standing lower cabinet that we found in the dusty old basement on one end of the house. We just HAPPENED to find the upper cabinet in ANOTHER end of the basement. I said, MINE!!!!! And we brought them upstairs, cleaned them up and painted them a deep red. They are next to our stove and hold our spices, and microwave...etc.

Our table was a medium sized one I bought the same month I had my fourth baby (1997). As our family grew to 9 children we screwed a huge piece of wood to the top of it and extended that table from 6 feet to, I think 8 feet.

So my dream kitchen is really just 'bits and pieces' of 'this and thats' and a large chunk of imagination!

Susan - your kitchen sounds like a dream! Enjoy!

Today will be just clearing my desk off and getting my goal planner ready for Aug. I have some printables that need organized or recycled on my desk.

Was quite productive today. Woke up hours before everyone else, got some time on my rebounder, sat out on the patio in the peace and quiet, weeded a flower garden that had gone astray, read quite a bit from a book that I have a deadline to finish so I can return it soon. Then the rest of the family got up and we weeded all the raised vegetable beds and harvested what we could. Then I cooked the beans right away so they wouldn't get forgotten.
After Hubby left for work in the afternoon, my 16 yr old son and I purchased some wood and he built me a supplement shelf for my pantry. It divides one section into four, making a place that holds 8 loaves of bread WITHOUT being stacked on top of one another or falling onto the floor and getting smashed!
Brilliant!
I love those new shelves!
I'm having a good 'kitchen' week!
HAPPY Susan!

Wow! Your new baking center sounds amazing! AND..you were able to organize it just like you want it. emoticon

I took a load of stuff to the consignment shop on Sat and what they didn't take I'll take to one more shop and then donate the rest. It was about and hour and 15 min drive to get up to Raleigh so Hubby and I had a nice lunch date and went to Costco while waiting for the shop to go through my stuff. They did buy a bit, but not as much as I was hoping for. So, on to the next shop! We don't really have a good shop in our town, so I will be driving to Fayetteville (45 min) next week to sell the rest. We do have a Goodwill here so that will work out well. I'm hoping by next Friday to have all the excess out of the house, including garage cleaning. School starts on Aug 26 so we'll be loading up on supplies then too. I do have a bin in the garage of extra supplies so I'll go through all that before I stock up again.

I love shiplap, but that wouldn't go with the house. There is already wainscoting up on the other walls and we will be duplicating that. The wainscoting is a creamy white and the wall currently is like a hot cocoa color. I still like those.

Man! I got so much stuff done today in the kitchen. It took a couple trips to the store to purchase a few things, but I am pleased as punch (the drink, not the violence). I got rid of three or four more things, then realized that the one cupboard near the sink had pie plates and an angel food cake pan...all things that could go in the first cupboard of the baking center! Which meant that all the Rubber-made containers stored there, could fit in THAT cupboard...and now the baking center is complete- the lower half anyway.

Then, over by the stove in a free standing cupboard where we keep our spices and such, I got rid of a three tiered rack. We just put it in a couple of months or so ago. But everytime we reached for one bottle we'd knock three or four of them off their little shelf. Instant aggravation!
So I just ran down to Dollar General and bought two clear plastic bins. One for the top shelf to keep duplicate spices. The box leaves room for the most frequently used spices in front of it. Then another to hold the rest of them. Now we can just pull the whole box down easily, without knocking ANYTHING over, grab what we want and replace the box.
Easy Peasy. Hubby is excited about that.

I also straightened the pantry shelves....just hours before Hubby brought some more groceries home....sigh.

Great idea and love the neither label. How about shiplac look on the wall? Have seen where they take plywood, cut it into boards, and put it up for that look. Cheaper that way.
I totally agree with comments about kids needing to learn that. I believe some schools do use her book and go visit the Holocaust Museum afterwards.

This evening I made bread at my baking center! Everything was PERFECTLY organized and it was a joy to do it with everything within easy reach. I loved it. And the bread was YUMMY!

Two of my girls (14 and 13) and I watched Anne Frank: The Whole Story on youtube tonight. Anne Frank has always been someone I admired growing up. Such a horrendous tale, yet so important to know the story. Far too many students (highschool and even college) do not even know who Hitler was! That's distressing!

Hope is such a wonderful thing to hold on to. If Anne had only held on for 2 weeks longer...

I am so excited! Hubby and son got our drywall up around the new windows and behind the counter (baking center). It's beginning to look soooo put together!
Now we need to save up for some quality wood to place around the windows.
I was able to reorganize the three cabinets. Each cabinet has a set of two drawers along side of the actual cupboard. One set of drawers has always held my sacks of flours and sugars.
Another has always held my measuring spoons and cups, yeast, baking soda/powder, vanilla- those kind of things.
But the last set held a lot of random things- plastic knives, bread twist ties, snacks, croutons.
I emptied that one out and placed my bread pans, rolling pins, and reusable cupcake 'papers' inside.

I also reorganized the cupboards. I took everything out that had nothing to do with BAKING.
Then I brought over the baking sheets and cupcake tins and such from another pan cupboard and placed them in the baking center.

We also went through a BUNCH of utencils and knives and all sorts of things. We really streamlined it. It is going to feel so DIFFERENT and UNCLUTTERED!

Yippee!

I had this medium-sized glass candy jar that no longer had a lid. Instead of getting rid of that altogether, I decided to keep it on the baking counter as a dirty spoon holder while baking.

I also had three stone crocks that I used to store my utensils. I organized them accordingly and labeled them with paint: COOKING BAKING NEITHER.

I've already gotten chuckles or smiles from that 'neither'.

We also pulled some of the things that we generally only use when we are prepping for a party and put them in a bin and placed them on our party shelf in our extra apartment kitchen.

Things are feeling ship-shape!

I look forward to choosing curtain material, but that won't be for a while yet.
And the mystery remains about PAINT. When Hubby paints the new wall, will I keep the same color? or change it?

And I am looking forward to my wood counter top, painting the cabinets off white, and putting in the sinks.
Hubby does have the waterlines in and a new outlet in the wall.

So ...stinking fun!

Today, I decluttered/organized a 3-drawer box of sewing supplies. The box of drawers was taking up some valued space on my craft cupboard. I already had a sewing table that my great-step-grandfather made for my grandmother when she got married so I thought I'd better put that to use.
Then, I came across a holiday pillow case that Grandma (I believe) had made out of red/green and black velvet material. The colors have always clashed with my décor so I had never brought it out during the holidays. Plus it needed mended. Well, lately, I'd been thinking about making a new pincushion, something 'just right'. My others all had something 'not right' about them.
I decided to cut this pillow sham down and make a pincushion from that. Now, I will USE it, ENJOY it, and REMEMBER Grandma with it.
I'm excited!
Just waiting to decide what to fill it with. I hear ground almond shells work well. Never heard of that before today. They can be purchased at a pet store.

Oh, I also sent some things to Goodwill.
Oh! And my son 'junked' his van, so THAT'S out of my driveway, too! haha.

Today I'm going to declutter the yard a bit. I need to cut some grass, and then get rid of all the garden center plants that never got planted and are dead, and pick up the weed piles, twigs, etc. The place just looks shabby, and I have company coming this weekend.

It's nice to be able to help someone else get organized.

Today is bathrooms - cleaning up the counters, stocking tp and soap, cleaning showers and toilets. The kids did a good job last week doing theirs so it is just touch ups for them, but my master bath needs attention.

All last week I was chugging along, taking care of decluttering the kitchen, living room, dining room and entry. The kids helped by cleaning their rooms and bathrooms and the loft. Yesterday Hubby scrubbed the floors. We had my BFF and her family from OH stop by on her way to Disney yesterday, so it was a wonderful visit and the house still looks great. Today, I'm just going to tidy up any messes from last night (the kids all had a blast playing video games while we took the parents on a little tour of our town) and do laundry. We said our goodbyes this morning after a trip to Duck Donuts. Miss her already!

Sounds like a good day.
We stopped at a restaurant that allowed you to take away 3 books with every meal purchased. I decided not to but my friend took home 6, my 3 and hers. Lol. But there are 2 that I want to read before I head home. Read over half of one on the bus trip back to PA. I kind of hope she is ready to tackle the decluttering of her office. Everything gets piled in there and she needs help to rescue her.

My decluttering today was WONDERFUL. I had no responsibility except to work on getting some books read. I've been stuck in the middle of several. Looking forward to completing them and putting them away or passing them along.
Yesterday was my letter writing day. I wrote on to an aunt out of state is around 90. Another to my mother's friend who has been feeling so down that she didn't even get involved in the funeral 3 years ago and has STILL not come out of it. :(
And the last one is to my Boot Camp Son. I printed up our family photo from January when we were all together at the same time and am sending that to him. I thought it might be nice to see some familiar faces!
I feel like I accomplished something now!

Hope you got rid of that stash at the end of the bed. Bet that can be frustrating.

I need to get a load of stuff to Goodwill today. Also, ask my neighbor if she is interested in any of my books. I'm going to clean up my desk and deal with paperwork as well.

wellll... I have this tenuous pile of clutter at the foot of the bed - books, papers... it tends to get unstable from time to time and since “I don’t have time to deal with it...” I usually just reptile it together and try again. But... no doctors appointment etc so I might as well work on getting a lot of it removed - recycle, trash, boxed up neater, something!!!

She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms.

I just pulled some books off a case I keep for unread books---some one gave them to me and I have decided I won't get around to them so going to donate them when I get back from my vacation.
Leaving on vacation tomorrow so might not post on here until I get back. Keep up the good work, everyone!

That's a great idea Pat! We do not have anything like that here - we live in a new development and I don't think our HOA would allow something like that. I'll try to keep a lookout in other neighborhoods around ours. Thank you for the suggestion. I also might try to sell them on Amazon. I'll have to check into that.

Tina, does a family in your neighborhood have a "library" at their house? I've only seen them a couple times, but it's a great idea. A box with a glass door (to protect the books from weather and to see what's inside) sits atop a post near the street edge of their property. People take whatever reading material they want and leave any books they've finished and don't want returned. It keeps reading materials in circulation and no one has to take the responsibility to check them in or out. Someone even left a geography game.

Cleaning ladies are here today, so I put things up to prepare and will replace as they finish a room.

Enjoy your scrapbooking time!

This morning I started the KonMari method on my books. I took every book off the shelves and piled them on the floor. I have about 1/3 to donate. So many books and half of them never read. I'm going to see if my neighbor is interested first, then I'll box them up for the library. Next I'll organize the books I'm keeping into different topics and put them all back on the shelves. But first...chiropractor appointment and trip to library to return some books.

Tina, wow, that was a great sort by you. Congrats!
I went thru my scrapbooking papers to pack up for my trip---my friend and I are going to a crop while I am there. I want to do the big trip we did 2 years ago---that way I can go thru the brochures I saved and get rid of all of them once I get the book done. I already know kind of what I want to do so it should go quickly---and if I don't finish, I hope this gives me the desire to get it finished when I get back.

I did my clothes today. I took everything out of my closet and dresser and piled it on the bed and then sorted each piece by what I loved. I have a huge tote and 2 Thirty-One totes filled with clothes, shoes and jewelry for the consignment shop, one huge tote set aside to take to the shop in the fall, and a box and garbage bag filled for Goodwill, plus a bag of trash to go out (shirts with holes, older underwear/bras) Now everything is back in place. I did not fold according to KonMari's method since I have wire shelving and I didn't want to go buy a bunch of boxes/baskets to store the folded clothes in. All my shirts and dresses are hung up and jeans/capris/shorts and exercise wear are folded on the shelves.

I have heard pros and cons about using her method for clothes. I think mine are just too big to do it her way---I think it would work well if I had all those little stretchy tops but a lot of mine are all cotton and would not do well all rolled up.
Was going to clean out my car this morning---hope to do it this afternoon---we are having much needed rain here this morning.

I spent some time going through random stuff that is in my closet - hair products, travel size items, make up, lotions, purses that still had stuff in them...I'm going to KonMari my clothes tomorrow so it will be nice to have a clear path in and out.

Pat, glad you can get rid of that stuff.
Did get some more stuff dusted in there. I have a large collection of Holly Hobbie rag dolls and they needed to be dusted. Also have a collection of M & M collectibles up high that Dh got down so I could dust them and dust the shelves they were all on.

My friend from NC is here and I can unload many boxes of things I've been saving for her -- cleaning supplies, shoes, clothes, jewelry, handbags. Wonderful to get these things out of our way.

Shots in knees yesterday and we ran errands so nothing done in the house.
Today I think I will tackle the bathroom after I take my shower.
