I have not been strict enough since I have returned from vacation. I was only up two pounds and now I am up three. Not sure how i can get back on track. I will keep on trying to add one day of success to the next. Today will be day one.

Today i met my goal. I go on vacation in one week. I am pretty sure I will need to back on the spark program to lose it again. Hopefully not all of it. I will try to maintain my weight this week though!!

Over 5 years of sparks membership. I got back in June and finding spark really helpful in keeping track of my calorie intake and exercise. I know there are two of us still hanging in. Anyone else out there/

No one's said anything in a while! We all still sticking in here? Hope everyone is doing well, taking advantage of the nice (if a little hot) weather and the abundant produce (yay for farmer's markets). Getting pretty stressed with grad school classes (finish my master's in education this summer) so exercise has been a welcome relief/procrastination tool. And my body seems to have leveled out the muscle gaining so I'm losing weight again (although I will say that my second time at my starting weight looked MUCH different than when I actually started). Hope everyone else is finding success in their own ways!

so I got rid of my weight goals, because as I am lifting, my weight is going up, but my body fat % is going down, so I don't want to discourage myself from being healthy...body fat % goals will be coming soon!

Hello again, Snipie. Short storm yesterday gave us about 0.5cm of rain. We are very dry here for this time of year, so the rain was helpful.

Back to my girls - Daughter #3 is 28yo, married for the second time, no children, one chocolate labrador, lives about 60 miles away from us in a trailer home on her husband's grandmother's property. She works here in town also for the state of Alabama as a clerk. She has had many struggles since age 15 with depression, mood disorders, anorexia, etc. she is doing better now with all of that, but has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia recently. Her husband has also had and lost a number of jobs over the past year and a half and is unemployed now. All of this makes things very hard for her right now - and I find it hard to not get all caught up in their problems,

Daughter #4 is 25yo, single, lives in Nashville, Tennessee, about 300 miles from here, where she is studying at Vanderbilt University for her PhD in chemistry. She hopes to finish next May. She has many friends and interests (ice hockey, dancing at country music clubs, films, cats, college football).

I admire your homeschooling your children. I think it is a very special thing to do. I homeschooled daughters #2 and #4 for just one year (5th grade and kindergarten). The older girl did 2 years of math in that year and developed a lot of confidence in her abilities. At the end of that year my husband came back home from a year in Korea with the Air Force and we moved here to Alabama where we've been ever since. The girls adjusted to school here well and were able to be in magnet schools for most of their schooling. I felt incapable of teaching junior high and high school courses, even though I had a pretty good science background myself.

i didn't walk today, but was active with church and DD#2 here this afternoon for awhile. Last week I walked 3 days, the week before I walked 2 days - this week I can walk 4 days - little by little I can do better.

I hope you've had a good weekend. I was just going to ask if you do school in the summer, but it's soon to be winter for you,, isn't it?

emoticon emoticon What a lovely surprise to find this lovely long post from you - and see that you had added me as a friend. I haven't been to my page to read your comment yet.

I walked again yesterday and today, just about 20 minutes each time, but it is getting out and moving in the morning. Tomorrow is church so I will plan to walk in the evening. How special for you to be having exercise/play time with your children. I liked to hear about them and your home schooling.

I have 4 girls - all grown. The oldest is 40 years old now, single, lives in New York City where she works for a business consulting company, She has lived in NYC ever since she graduated from college. I see her once or twice a year, but we talk on the phone often.

My #2 daughter is 30yo, married, has a 4yo daughter (the little girl in the photos on my SparkPage) and teaches Latin in a private high school here in our town. She's the one who told me about this site. She is here (on SparkPages) as NovaMater. Her husband works in an office for the state of Alabama. They have just bought their first house last month - little brick 2BR house 60 years old about 3 1/2 miles from us.

It's beginning to thunder and I need to turn off my computer. More later. ElaineAnn

Hi

You many kids have you?

I have 3. A boy of 14, a girl of 9 and my baby is also a girl 5. I homeschool the children about a year now. I really enjoy it. I discover a nother side of motherhood in the homeschool. It is our duty to train up our children, and it is so easy to say the teachers did not do there work. But on the end it stays our responsibility.

When we take our children out of the school, they was in a private christian school, I had to put my son 3 years back. That was so bad. But in the end after many faits and conflick with the school and church I knew if we as parents not going to look out for our children nobody will.

Luckily for me, I have children with very high IQ. With the help of my homeschool host we help my son to do 2 years in 1 years time.

It was not easy, but our relationship grow so much. It is really a privalige to homeschool your own children.

Wait I will talk to you agian. I am so glad for you with your walking. At the start I just focus on doing something. It's about 2 months later, and know the energy is getting lose, I feel like walking faster and get from time to time the need to do something extra.

I don't force myself to do something I don't like. If I do not enjoy, I don't do it. Yesterday my children was playing ball outside. So I decide to join them. We laugh and enjoy each other so much. When we were finish and I fall on my bed I feel I exercise way out to much without even notice it.

So yes take it slow and enjoy, but just do something each day. I even start with 2 minutes exercises. It's beter than nothing..

Are you working ?

Wait I'm talking to long now.

Bye

Snipie, Thank you, thank you. The walk was good, but I didn't walk today. I got up and dressed to go out walking as soon as I ate my breakfast. Then I got phone calls from 2 of my girls, one reporting on car problems she was getting taken care of, one needing to me loan (give) her money for gas and for medicines she needs to refill tomorrow - I let myself get so weighed down with their problems that it's as if the energy just runs out of my feet and I can hardly move. I did go out to get my hair cut this afternoon and I've eaten well.

Tomorrow I'll remember your advice and tell myself "even if I walk slow, I did walk, it was not far but I did. It is beter than sitting and do no exercise at all... "

Thank you, SparkFriend emoticon

I see you walk today, well done for you. Just do it regulary, even if you don't feel like it, go and walk slow and maybe just around your block.

I always tell myself even if I walk slow, I did walk, it was not far but I did. It is beter than sitting and do no exercise at all...

So good luck and congrats on your start.

Every one have that one really bad habbit. I think it's good to use that habbit from time to time. My bad habbit is Chocelates. I really don't have a sweet tooth like people say, but I love my choc from time to time.

It sounds like you love nature. There is nothing in life that can shake me more than nature self. I sat on the beach last week and the big mountian with the sea before me, let me feel so small. Oh I love nature. I always thank God for His beautifull nature.

People can make this world a really bad place, but when you get into nature, I know there somewhere are still love and happyness because it's in the air.

Are you suffer with exercise? I start with only walking, and walking very slow. Just enjoy nature agian...

I'll be back tomorow, my food is getting cold...

emoticon So glad you're back! Seems you've been gone forever - was it 2 weeks? It sounds as if you had a wonderful time. I love being at the beach - we have a cottage rented for a week in August. Walking on the beach is so relaxing - and takes more energy I think.

I loved your description of climbing up and rolling down the dune. What a special family time for you all.

Only 1 kg gain is great after vacation and I think you're right about retaining water just before your period.

I'm well. I'm rather stuck at my current weight. I've been eating ice cream late at night - I just love it (chocolate especially) - and I sit and eat it while I'm reading rather than savor it or eat it in a cone which takes more attention and lets me enjoy it more. I need to stop that and start exercising!

I live in the US in Alabama which is in the southeast. A tip of the state is on the Gulf of Mexico and the northern part (about 365 miles north) is in some low mountains. It's usually very green with many flowering trees and shrubs, but we are in a severe drought now and the lawns are brown and some trees are losing their leaves.

You wrote,"Somehow I like it, its like our two's private chatroom... " I agree! So glad you're back.

Hi ElaineAnn

I'm back !! I have a WONDERFULL time !!! It was really great. We was on the Eastern Cape Coast of South Africa.

I have so much more energy. I played ball with my kids on the sea sand. I took long walks on the beach.

One time the whole family chase each other up a sand hill - dune, I think - it was very high, and I was almost dead when I reach the top, but it was so much fun. We laugh and roll all the way back.

I gain 1kg but I must also say, it is my period time now, and some people say that you gain some weight that time of the month because of some water.

So maybe this 1kg is not gain at all.. I'm still very happy because never in my life I went on holiday and only gain 1kg.

How are you? And from where are you from. Tell me a bit more of yourself while we are the only 2 still left in this team.

Somehow I like it, its like our two's private chatroom...

Anyway I feel great and I'm ready to lose some big time weight...

emoticon Snipie, have a wonderful holiday - tell us when you get back where you've been. Now that you've begun losing and know all these healthy choices, I'll bet you won't gain much. When I spent 5 days away earlier with my daughter I was so much more aware of calories and healthy choices that I didn't gain even though I splurged some.

Have fun!

Hi ElaineAnn

Where is everybody? Well they send someone out today to check our connection out. It seems to work fine now.

But I just say hallo to say again goodbye - we are going on holiday.

I will hopefully be back next Sunday.

Please pray for me so that I will not gain to much weight this holiday.

So be good and I will see you soon again..

Snipie emoticon back! I've missed seing your posts. I know just what you mean about the being accountable to write it all down makes a difference in how we do during the day.

I'll think 'losing' thoughts for you until your Friday weigh-in. Are you still running with your children? I'm very slowly working at my walking emoticon

Hi

I'm back and I miss you all so much..

Our internet connection had some kind of a problem, and it was bad, because I did not have to calculate my calories tonight.. you know !!!

So after all SP is great. It is really something to come every night and put in what you did the day. If you did not do your best you feel ashimed to put it in, and tomorow you are doing beter.

So I'm a bit scared to weigh in, but I will leave that to Friday. I have a lot to catch up..

Glad everyone is doing fine..

I haven't checked in here for a while - things have been going really well. I am a person who was incapable of losing weight - not anymore! With hard work and perserverance, I have managed to lose 10 pounds since signing on to SP on april 5. I am THRILLED! It really is not so hard to stay on track either! I love exercising, and I'm not finding excuses to get out of it anymore. I exercised early Sunday a.m. which is huge for me because it was the day that my daughter was being confirmed and we were celebrating with a party at my house afterwards. In the past, a busy day ahead was an excuse to let the exercising go by the wayside, but not this time! I was craving the activity and by getting it out of the way early, I didn't have to obsess about it all day! The day after the party (yesterday) I was EXHAUSTED! I slept off and on all day, and was going to call it a day when I got a burst of energy at 8pm. So I went to the gym and put in 35 minutes on the elliptical - another huge victory for me!

Have a great day!

Hi Ana,

Click on the tab that says My SparkPoints, then under the 2nd set of options titled "One Time Challenges" the 1st one says take diet personality profile. It is the last one under that One time challenges box called "Watch an inspirational news story about sparkpeople". Click on the action link that says "watch video now" At the bottom of that is a link that says click here to watch. Hope that helps! =O)

You can open up a second browser window so that you can toggle back and forth. Press down on your Ctrl button and your letter N button at the same time. It will open an identical window of whatever screen you have up.

Good morning Sparkers! It's been a while since I've paid this thread a visit! Good to see so many of you losing and still excited about SP! Have any of you watched the video that can be found under My SparkPoints, then in the middle under one time challenges? It is the last one called "Watch an inspirational news story about Spark People". If you haven't, take a moment to watch. You earn 10 points AND it's a great plug for SP!

Again, congrats to you all and keep reaching for your goals!

DELLA ~~ Congrats for losing 13 pounds, the same as me and it does feel great! I feel myself getting stronger every day.

ELAINEANN ~~ Thank you so much for your kind words, you're a sweetheart! I also don't work outside of my home and my only child left at home is a senior in high school so I always have time for my exercising lol.

I'm setting my May monthly exercising goal at 50 miles, whether it's doing my WATP in my home or walking up at the park near our home. Have a great day everyone!!!

Hi guys. I've been reading your messages and thought I might join in since you are all so positive and supportive. I actually joined April 1 (but I ain't no fool! LOL) and I've lost almost 13lbs. Isn't this site great! I've never been able to stay so motivated. I don't know what it is about those points...When I started I was winded after a 30 minute walk, and the 30 minute strength exercise workout that they give you just about killed me, but now I am really looking forward to my walk (almost every day) and my workouts (although they are still a challenge). My weight loss has been really slow the last two weeks but I feel so much better and stronger that it is keeping me motivated.

Sunshell - emoticon 47 miles in a month is FANTASTIC! I am now officially embarassed. I live in a beautiful neighborhood - all sorts of trees and flowers - with sidewalks and without a job or children at home and I've only gotten in about 4 miles this month. I like the idea of walking to a destination. We have a week reserved at the FL Gulf Coast in August - I think I'll figure out how far that is and start walking to get there in time for vacation.

Sunshell, you're an inspiration. emoticon Thanks

Tonight I did the 2 mile WATP high calorie burn. I set my monthly goal for April at 45 miles and after my workout tonight, I made it to 47 miles for the month and it feels great!

Yeah, I am happy that I lost those pounds on my first week, but it would have been more gratifying to keep on losing along the month. But, I am happy because I feel a lot better now over all. I feel tighter, more energetic, more under control and motivated. All these also counts for a good reward!

ANA ~~ You lost 8 pounds your first week, that's great!! My sister is doing LAWL and has lost 7 pounds her first week, so when I think of 13 pounds over four weeks made me think it's not too great, but better than nothing I guess. I have not missed a single day of counting my calories and exercising in the full four weeks. I use Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds for my exercise that I do in my own home and I love them! I did the 1 mile for the first three weeks and now have moved up to the 2 mile, but it's still a little hard for me.

Peggy ~~ Great job with the exercise, you're doing great! Tomorrow will actually be four weeks since I started exercising and haven't missed a day yet. I have thought of it some days, but I feel too guilty and then once I'm done, I feel so good and happy I did it. I workout every day with my WATP in my own home and I love it!!

Hi

Peggy, you have done good, I also think you need to rest once in a while.

I have a great day, my hubby was the whole day with us. We have quickly school, and he made for us the huge marvelous lunch.

That was so nice..

Hi, Peggy. You've been exercising every day since Easter - emoticon . Sounds like a 'Sabbath rest' is just what was called for on a grey, foggy day. I think it's great that you felt like you missed out on something - your body has learned to really appreciate the exercise.

Hoping for a sunny day emoticon for you today.

Good morning everyone!
I had a weird day yesterday - it was gray and foggy and I couldn't shake the yucky way I was feeling. I put on my workout clothes in the morning just as I do every morning, but I never made it to the gym. It was the first day I missed exercising since Easter Sunday. I guess it's ok to give the body a break every once in a while, but I really felt like I missed out on something yesterday. Oh well, I don't think the weight will come back after one bad day. Today is a new one. I really hope the sun makes an appearance!

emoticon Snipie! I'm not sure I could beat my 4yo granddaughter in a sprint! Let us know when you challenge your son!

We live up a small hill from our church and then have one and a half flights of stairs to get to the kitchen door. I'll know I'm doing better when I can come home from the church and get to the kitchen without being out of breath or having my legs feel tired.

Hi

I try sprinting today, I race my two girls - hahaha - and I beat them.

But it was not fear, cause they are still small, next time I going to challenge my 14 year old son.

Good job Canela70, it certainly is a good feeling when you can say, I didn't fall as hard as I would have last month...and then you do that little extra workout to make up for the slip. funny thing about the stomach isn't it. It gets used to a certain treatment and then doesn't want to go back to the old ways. I get stomach pains after eating anything with too much grease, I haven't been able to eat anything deep fried in over a year.

Well, as you probably have read in other threads, I had a bad weekend because of the cravings I had. I just messed up a bit on Sunday evening, as we went over to a friend's house for dinner. I tried to resist the pizza, but I couldn't. However, I have to proudly say that I just had 1 regular size piece and a smaller one. In the past, I would have eaten 4 pieces or more. Moreover, after I had it I had stomach ache, so probably my body is getting unused to this type of food. I feel happy for that. In the other hand, I strengthened my workout this weekend, so I just have 1/2 the remorse emoticon

Had a great weekend. Over did it a few times since we had drinks with friends over the weekend, but we, my husband and I and the willie our dog, did get out for our walks. Sunday we did a 5 km. hike through some woods, lots of hills and lots of rough terrain. It was fun and worked up a sweat, but definitely felt good.

Happy Saturday everyone. I hope you're all doing well and sticking with it even though its a weekend and they can be touger. Because of a strange work situation, I spend half of my week (including my weekends) in Las Vegas instead of Phoenix where I live, so my weekends are especially challenging. I've actually had to develop two different dieting strategies to deal with the change, but I'm finally getting the hang of keeping on track through the tough times. My week has been pretty good, but not close to perfect. This week, I'm going to focus on the tiny little details that I sometimes let slip by because of stress or a very hectic work week. 100% every day is going to be my goal this week. I know I can't be perfect all of the time, but I'm going to focus on it for 7 days and see where I end up. And I'm also going to have my husband hide our scale after I weigh in on Monday morning. That evil thing brings me down, so I'm going to ban it from my life for two weeks in the hope that I can find my rewards in other places rather than the number on the scale. Best of luck to all of you. :o)

What absolutely gorgeous weather we finally have. We sat out by the fire last night and then took a walk around the block and visited with friends. It was so nice to not be frozen or wet. emoticon Doing some hiking with my husband today, we'll take Willie, our dog, along. Good Morning All!

I had a pretty good week. I've already surpassed my cardio goal for the week, but I'll still workout today. My trainer has told me it's ok to take a day off for rest, and while I'm sure that's true, I am afraid to lose my momentum.
I ate pretty good this week too. I kept my calories in check, except for last night. Our family went out to our favorite Italian restaurant as a special treat. By no means did I overindulge. But I'm sure the dishes were not prepared in a healthy way. I could tell by how flavorful everything was that they were not cutting back on the butter or sodium! I guess if it's every once in a while, it's ok.
Hope you all had a good week . The weather is finally taking a turn for the good here. Enjoy your weekend!

emoticon Cath! What an energetic day. I accomplished almost nothing on my listed activities, but did hang out a load of laundry, scrub some floors, do more physical housework than I usually do.

I'm just dealing with a day at a time. Where I am now is much better than before I found Sparks and tomorrow can be better than today. I'm going to New Orleans for the weekend so will get lots of walking and probably lots of calories. Just have to have a beignet and cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde.

It's another way to look at your day.

Go to View SparkPoints and it's listed there on the points you can get daily. Click on the link and then fill out the information.

You'll get a number that's on the scale and they'll explain it to you.

Hi, MOOKIE - no wonder you're not sure what it is. I only got the name partly right. On the page section that shows our SparkPoints, there's an orange View SparkPoints. Clicking on that brings up a SparkPoints page that lists all the daily, one-time, diet stage points. Under the dailies is one called Use Healthy Lifestyle Scale -worth 2 points!
