week 5 day 1 DONE! I am so psyched..requirement were 3 sets of alternating 5 min jogs and 3 min walks. I finished those without major problems, however I miscalculated my route and went way further than I should have. So I wound up jogging an extra 6 min to get back. I cannot believe my progress! Also, this was the first time I was jogging painfree. No more muscle aches in my calfs! I think I can do tomorrow (two 8 Min jogs) but I really dread Friday (20 min jog) but that is what I thought whenever I started a new week.

Hi group! I'm so glad I found you!!!! I just complete W2D1 today in the rain... fairly proud of myself when I finished! I'm using the free podcasts and I really don't think I would be enjoying it without them. I'm a new mommy; my son was born on September 15, an I want to get fit... I never have been before!

Finished week 4! The two sets of 3 and 5 min jogs were a challenge for me, and I am not sure if I should repeat week 4, or if I should just give week 5 a try. I probably will do week 5, just because I have the same doubts whenever I start a new week. never thought I could jog for 5 minutes at a piece, but I did it! My calf muscles pains seem to be going away slowly as well. Overall I am so glad I started this program - despite the inclimate weather. Funny thing is that since I picked up jogging, I seem to be gaining weight. I just hope this is all muscle gain lol.

Hey everyone. I have begun training to participate in a 5k this spring/summer. I have been working up to running more and more. Last night I did 4.17k in 30 minutes - most of which was running. I took a short break midway through and near the end but I DID IT!!! I'm so very excited by this new adventure. Several weeks ago if anyone had said that I could run for a dozen blocks I would never have believed it. I look forward to taking this journey with all of you. Make it a fabulous day - you have the power!

Congratulations Leslielongarms! I just finished W5D2 this morning. It's so awesome to be making progress. Hard to believe that before starting this program I could barely run for 60 seconds and would need about 2 minutes to recover from that. I felt like I was recovered and ready to run after about 1 minute following my first 8 minute interval.

I just got home from the gym and I finished W5D2. I was nervous about it all day at work because the thought of running for 8 minutes straight scared me. I really got into the zone during my first set of 8 minutes and was surprised when it was time to walk again. The second set of 8 minutes was tougher but I finished it and I feel fantastic!

Keep up the great work everyone and realize that you're stronger than you think you are! emoticon

Hey Couch to 5K runners, I created a free podcast/mp3 to help new runners finish the Couch to 5K. I'm very overweight and I've completed 3 5K races in 2009. I plan to do a half marathon this year. Check out my weight loss blog and try my podcast at www.runningintoshape.com.

Finished Week One today. I surprised myself doing D1 in 37 degree weather. I always thought people who worked out in cold weather were crazy. It wasn't as bad as I had imagined. I also worked out during my lunch hour for D2. I always saw my lunch as my time to recharge for the second half of my workday. I felt alert and full of energy after my workout. Amazing! I was able to finish all the "run" intervals today, but I think I may do W1 over again next week. I don't feel that I finished strong enough to move on to W2. All in all, it was a good week!

finished week 3! This run was the hardest for me this week. But the jog was great. Had my husband jogging with me. I tried to get him to exercise for a while now. He was a runner, but then stopped doing any exercise about 5 years ago due to injuries. It was drizzling rain today while we were running, but surprisingly pleasant to run in. We also walked into this huge swarm of swallows which was really cool..felt like we were in an episode of Hitchcock's "the birds".

w3d2- perfect running weather today..blue skies and probably around 60F. Jog seemed to have went easier than on Monday..no side stitches..but I still have that dull pain in my lower calfs. I so wish that would go away! I am now feeling my thigh muscles at work as well - which is a good thing. Looks like they are firming up! I am still slow as a turtle, but I am jogging nontheless, which I am really proud off! Had enough energy that I took out the dogs following my run, and then finished planting my flowers.

accomplished w3d1! My greatest accomplishment so far. I really didn't think I would be able to jog for 3 min straight, but I did it. The first time was relatively easy, on my last run, I started to get some side stitches. I also noticed that I slowed down quite a bit compared to the last two weeks from a 7km/hr speed to 6.5 km/hr..but that is ok. I did some extensive stretching before and after my run, and I still had some pain in my calf muscles, but it seems to get slowly better. The weather was ideal..blue skies and about 60F. Hope Wednesday will go this smooth as well!

Today I did W1D1. I actually started last week but I was only able to do one day because I pushed myself to hard and it left me sore for about 4-5 days.

So I started over today and went at a much slower pace and it felt great!

W2D2 - This was one of the hardest days for me. I had to really push myself to finish it. Got some side pains and really struggled to keep up the running for 90 sec. Also still have that nagging pain in my lower calfs. Started doing some stretching and hope that that will help eventually. But bottom line is, I made it! So I hope that my body was just readjusting itself for bigger and better things to come. Hope Friday is going to be a lot easier!

Ginnie,

thank you so much for your encouragement. I just came back from my week 2/day 1 walk/jog and I am actually feeling pretty good. It didn't get any easier yet, but it also didn't get any harder (impossible to finish). So I am happy that I was able to maintain my pace (still did 2.13 miles in 30 min) although I now had to run 90 sec (not 2 min as I originally thought - thank GOD) at a time. The weather was perfect too. Normally I wouldn't leave the house under 70F voluntarily, lol, but it was around 50F this morning (FL weather) and after the warm up the ideal temperature for a jog. I just wish that nagging pain in my calfs would dissapate. I took some advil before I got started, but that didn't seem to help a lot...does anyone have any suggestions?

Week 6 Day 1 DONE and I feel great!!

STETSONAB-- That's pretty much how all of us felt after the first week! I know I did... it will definitely get better as long as you keep pushing yourself! But remember, you can take as long as you like. I repeated week 1 and week 3 because they were really hard for me. It will definitely take me longer than others, but that is ok! As long as you are progressing personally, you are doing great!

Keep it up and let us know how you do! emoticon

finished my first week on Friday, but I am still very skeptical about week2. I didn't see any improvement at the end of the week, so I wonder how I will be able to step up to 2min of running at a time when I am huffing and puffing after one minute already. My avg distance was 2.18 miles in 30 minutes..tracking my route I noticed that I was pretty consistent on all three days. Wish me luck that I am able to get thru week 2..maybe it will get easier then (I sure hope so!) Maybe some of you can let me know if you felt the same way after week 1.
