I was so afraid you and Connie would finish it up before I got back. I wanted to help "bring it home".

Thanks for starting the new Autumn/Winter Thread.

Yesterday was 6 weeks since my surgery and I was released to bike. I biked only 15 minutes but it's a start.

It is good to be back to my bike. I missed it.

The really good news is that I am healing good and doing better than ever! God is so good!

Good news about the weight loss, Sunny, not the most "fun" way to drop it, but if it needed to go... glad it's gone!

Prayers for a speedy recovery for those hard-working lungs, and I know you'll be doing your home work wit that spirometer!

Good Morning, Team.

I am home from Springfield and my surgery, thanks be to God! It was a tough one but I am finally feeling pretty good and everything is "functional". PTL for this! It may take a time to get my lungs back up (they sure took a beating with the anesthesia). Ugh. I use that incentive spirometer every day so it won't be long.

I am thankful for the loop recorder, just don't know why I am having the arrhythmia's, when they happen, or the duration. I have no symptoms which is dangerous. ugh.

So happy Barb to hear that your Son got the job. I felt like he would be a great candidate so glad that they agreed with me.

My cousin who lives south of Beaumont, Texas lost everything in the hurricane. She and her husband are currently staying with her Sister. Thank goodness for family! When we think things can not get worse, Florida evacuates the whole state. Wow! I watched some of the news this morning and it sure doesn't look good.

I am off to fix me some oatmeal. Rich treated us to a pizza last night and I really would prefer cold pizza but I will save it for him. hehehe

BTW, the best side effect from all of this is that I am down 25#. I started out at 199# when I first saw the surgeon and was down 19# the day of surgery and have lost 6 more since surgery. Not the best weight loss program but I don't want to put it back on either.

Love and Hugs, Sunny

Hope that loop recorder thingy doesn't interfere with normal life, Sunny... doesn't sound like it does. And it gives them some good information, too.

Good news here: son got the job. He starts on the 18th.

One more relief as I look toward that rushing retirement date. Why is it we moms think we need to "save the world"? Just asking!

Meanwhile, praying for Houston's recovery and Florida's preparations... huge storms this year! And while we're at it, for the wildfires in the West! It's a BIG world we're wanting to save!

Do keep us posted on the positions. I will be praying that a job comes his way.

I had to see the cardiologist to be released for surgery on the 31st. He did release me but did not discharge me. You know they put a loop recorder in after I took that fall in St. Louis. It did show up some arrhythmia's so he wanted the loop recorder to stay in another year. Ugh...

No symptoms though so that is good.

Love to you all, Sunny

Sunday morning... time to check in with the MM&P team. Sunny, hope things went well with the Specialist for Rich and the cardiologist for you... the cardiologist results would seem to be, based on your active bike miles in our challenge.

In the "hopeful news related to our service members" arena... got a visit from my Jon yesterday, and no less than THREE phone calls this week. He's of course out of the reserves by now, a veteran, in grad school, and facing the expiration of his GI bill benefits. But some positions opened up in our local VA office. He's applied and been interviewed for one of them, in line with his MOS and education. Got our fingers crossed that he'll be offered the job. It has its own set of challenges (8 weeks training halfway across the continent), but nothing like a deployment!

Here's wishing a blessed Sunday to all, with prayers for the safety of all our loved ones in uniform and out! emoticon

Thank you both for being so supportive. I do appreciate it.

I am up with the birds but going to get my exercise done early. I see the NP at the Cardiologist this afternoon.

Don't know if I said anything but Rich has been diagnosed with a Barrett's Esophagus which develops over time from "GERD". He will have to see a specialist in St. Louis. They did call yesterday and he will see the doc for his first appointment to discuss treatment options on 9/14.

We can do this! It is scary but at least he is seeing a doc that is top rated in the USA for this treatment.

Love you all, Sunny

PTL for your Joshua, Sunny! Every day brings a fresh day to live... one at a time! May Joshua be guided and strengthened to keep on living them, sober. He's certainly not alone in the veteran community having to overcome such obstacles.

BB notes: Sharon, I agree with the assessment about Jessica. In fact, I think the house is stacked this year with ruthless players, who justify some pretty ugly behavior in the name of "it's a game". Reminds me somewhat of the Friendship 7 season, except there's more than one Maggie! It will be interesting to watch them devolve. Oh, and by the way, on the feeds? What you often hear on the loudspeakers (from the production crew) is "STOP THAT!"

OK, time to stir the oats... hope everyone is well and taking care to stay that way!

Congrats to Joshua Sunny! It's a long hard road which I've seen far too many loved ones travel.

Barb, great insights on the Big Brother game this year. This summer sure is different than previous seasons...still I am fascinated and not disappointed about the bonus episode this week. And excited about the double eviction too. What can I say? I know I'm a geek.

I will say that I get where Cody's mind is at....but Jessica is just as big of a bully as the others, and I'm not sure why the producers have not stepped in and told them all to knock it off. Some of the things I've heard that she's done off camera are gross and disgusting and I can't imagine why Cody would want to put up with her. For a guy who seemingly has so much going for him, he doesn't seem to have much self esteem, and that's sad. I'm curious to see what is transpiring now since we last checked in with them!

OK...time to get to bed. Have a lovely week everybody!

Love, love, love the idea of the Hero bracelet.

Saw Joshua yesterday and he is doing great. He has 9 months sobriety (PTL for that), and starts school on the 22nd. Dad and I have been sleeping so much better. hehehe

Take care and do have a Marvelous Monday.

Sharon, your life sounds exhausting this year! For that matter, with daycare kids, it ALWAYS sounds exhausting to me (says the lady who's about to toe a start line for the third year in a row at Age Group National Triathlon Olympic distance). Obviously, we all have to choose what we spend our life energy on!

My hero bracelet (the five members of the 467th and 1908th who trained with my son, then lost their lives Nov 5, 2009 at Fort Hood) will be with me, if I get tired and the going gets tough, I will think of those who no longer have the choice to go out and be active and test their limits. No excuses for me!

**** Big Brother insights as they might pertain to us MMAP's *****

Cody, being a Marine, is strong, but notice how he has managed to isolate himself. He did not win HoH, so that might limit his game severely this week, and we may see him exit. I can't help but connect his self-isolation with what I've seen happen (or heard from my son about) to vets returning from deployments. To them, it is NOT a game, and it is hard for them to connect with people who appear to be living na´ve and clueless lives.

Granted, Cody has been prickly, and Jessica contributed by responding to bullying in the house the same way so many of us do... she folded, and isolated, and bonded with Cody. Even Meghan, was it? Who exited early, has a similar response to the rough treatment. I read that she had been assaulted while in service, and Cody's aggressive behavior (and for that matter, Jessica's aggressive response to her) just made her realize she was not up to this "game".

I know, about myself, that I would not last a day in that kind of environment! Cody's "this is not a game to me, this is my life" attitude reminded me of my own father, who was a man of integrity, and when his "best friend" at work betrayed his trust in the context of a training game... it damaged their relationship for years to come.

Be careful what you do in the name of playing "games". It can really harm real life relationships!

**** End BB soap box ****

Good to see y'all posting and welcoming MZDAZLYN! Hope we can get to chatting a bit more in the weeks ahead! And I hope everyone (and your service members, too) are well and safe.

MZDazlyn, let me add my welcome to you as well!

How is everybody doing? I'm not as Sparky as I should be right now, but hanging in there! I've been fighting vertigo for about 3 weeks and I think it's finally settling down. (fingers crossed!) I am winding down my busy, busy summer and will hopefully have more time to check in soon. This was the summer of 4 grad parties, 3 bridal showers, along with 3 weddings -- one down, one this weekend, and one to go!) plus 2 baby showers for Lisa, one of which I'm hosting, and 12 full time daycare kids. 2 of those are leaving tomorrow, so it will be a bittersweet day. I love them dearly, but with all the big kids in the summer, things are so hectic and rowdy. One of the ones whose last day is tomorrow is a great instigator, so it should start quieting down. When school starts after Labor day I'll be down to 7, with one spot held for the new grandbaby, which would have brought it to 8, my desired number. Except that I just got notice today that one of my favorite families is moving out of town and I'll lose a little 2 year old guy that I'm very attached to. Heartstrings pulling today indeed!

SPOILER ALERT! BIG BROTHER INSIGHTS BELOW, SO STOP HERE IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED!

So I welcome the BB distraction! Barb, I like Kevin's game too, and Alex's. I would love to see either of those two go far. I will also be interested to see what happens with Cody now that the evil Jessica is gone! (Yes, I really dislike her and was thrilled that she didn't make it to jury.) I've had enough of Josh for a while, so I hope he lays low now. And I really like Christmas, although if she's not able to participate soon I think it's unfair to let her stay. Just my opinion!

Hey, team mates... be sure to head over and welcome our new member MZDAZLYN! Come join us and introduce yourself!

I'm Barb, mom to a now former reservist, and this team helped me get through his TWO deployments! Our kids may be the service members, but it affects us, too!

Probably sounds hokey, but I think Kevin is playing an outstanding game, Sharon! I liked Alex, and think she might have the best shot at taking Paul out in the end. But I also like Christmas.

Cody is one I like "in spite of" all the goings on, but he doesn't have very good social filters! Jessica? Well at least she wasn't dumb enough to NOT use her hex! Had she done so, and they decided to take HER out instead of Cody, it would have gone down as the dumbest play since Marcellas not using the power of veto on himself!

Anyway, there seem to be more "entertaining" HG's than usual, but you're right, a lot of fights offline... we only see the hints of it that the producers want us to see on the shows.

Whew -- August already! The summer is flying by even faster than usual. (Although with all the "big" daycare kids back for the summer, that's not such a bad thing...) It's been an unusually busy one for us, and this is literally the first weekend that I have not had multiple commitments on the calendar. It's good to sit in my house for a change. Although lots of things have been let slide lately and it's hard to relax looking at the mess, so I guess there's a down side to everything!

One thing I AM keeping up with is Big Brother though! As always I'm glued to each episode. I read message boards online although I don't subscribe to the feeds. Sounds like a lot of what we don't see during the actual program is downright nasty. I actually felt sorry for Cody last Thursday, seeing some of the things the rest of the house is doing to him, especially since it's pretty likely he's suffering from PTSD. But not Jessica....I totally cannot stand her. I'm anxious to see what Josh will do with his HOH. Who is everybody rooting for?

Enjoy your weekend Ladies! I haven't decided yet whether to be productive or not. Baby shower is coming up in 3 weeks, but I'm really pretty much prepared except for printing up game sheets etc, which has to be done after I get a better numbers idea from the RSVPs. Prizes are bought and menu is set...that doesn't stop me from wanting to surf the web for more ideas! But what I really should be doing instead is tackling some long overdue chores. Lol...I'll let you know how it all plays out!

You should really be enjoying this season of ANW, Sunny... the new rules deliberately promoting the top 5 women into city finals? And the top two in city finals to the national finals? I know that adds to my interest.

Speaking of American Ninja Warrior... it's one of the topics my trainer BJ and I giggle over. I have mentioned that I can't drink coffee (or anything, for that matter) while watching, because I'll sway my body with the curvy obstacles to try to urge the athletes to success!

Hello team and good Saturday.

I have not been to this thread for quiet a while - seems like my emphasis has been our new challenge.

Just wanted to stop and say Hi! It is hot here in the Midwest but Mr. weatherman says we are to have a cool down the first of the week.

Take care and do have a Super Saturday. Stay hydrated....

I, too, am praying for those marines lost and their families. News says it was a training mission; sounds like the trainers on the flight were elites, too.

I understand your connection making it more intense, Sharon... just as I myself trigger whenever anything involving mental illness, suicide, etc. among our military brings an extra level of connection for me, given Jon's MOS (behavioral health specialist).

Hee heee....and it looks like Carla is too. Looking forward to tomorrow night's episode. I have a training to attend from 6:30 - 8:30 so won't be able to watch until Thursday, both episodes back to back. Can't wait. Yes, Cody does put a lot of drama in the house, but he's just such a sore loser. And I agree, I'd actually rather see Jessica go first. You'll have to be sure to catch us up on anything interesting in the live feed!

On a more serious note, praying for the families of the 16 Marines lost. So very sad. Rescuing fellow Marines and saving what can be saved in this type of situation was Jeff's MOS, (Aircraft Rescue Firefighting Specialist) so it hits pretty close to home and makes me feel even more sad.

Of COURSE I'm watching, Sharon! Glad you found the thread!

Very interesting season, very twisty. I even bought the feeds, which I haven't done in YEARS. But don't have a lot of time to watch them.

Believe it or not, there's a twisted part of me that would like to see Cody "saved" to continue the fight, but he's made some serious, serious social errors (i.e. Class A Jerk). Honestly his "camp follower" Jessica is worse, though, but Cody's the target of most of the house at this point.

For anyone else who has no clue what we're discussing, Sharon & I are huge Big Brother fans.

And all the other stuff too. Although I'm here, I'm certainly not very active. smh... Too much life going on, but it's the good kind so I can't complain.

Prayers going up for our Marines and their families. So sad...........

Hi Ladies!

I was just thinking about how quiet this team has been lately....and it suddenly occurred to me that there was probably a "new" thread that I didn't see and get subscribed to...and sure enough, here it is and here you are! I'm glad to see everybody still active....whew! But I don't have time to catch up on all I've missed right at the moment, not been too Sparky lately and I'm behind in all 3 of the teams I really care about -- this being one! But....even though I can't add to the conversation right here and now, I'm thinking about you gals and hope to be more active with you as I get back into the swing of things. Have a Terrific Tuesday tomorrow!

PS Barb: I assume you are watching? What a crazy season so far! I really wanted to stand by Cody, being a Marine and all...but what a class A jerk!

So glad your DH was able to fix that cord, Connie! That deck has been a project and a half, but I'll bet you're going to really enjoying it for years to come!

I'm with you about praying for unity, and for the safety of our service men and women. Political "garbage" can lead to real danger to them!

My husband fixed the cord on the grinder and I'm finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as deck is concerned...about another week, maybe 2 :) and I'll be getting ready for staining.
Can't believe we are in the midst of summer here in Mich.
Joel's wife and my grandkids are in MI, now with her folks, and then they will be visiting here. Now to make some plans.
Sad to see all the political garb out there. I'm praying for unity in our great country! We as a country need to move on, just my opinion ;)
Praying for all our soldiers!

This is how my day is going-I really screwed up this time- went out and bought me a very expensive grinder for the deck and I hit the cord which of course messed the whole thing up. Sparks everywhere!!! My husband is away so not sure if it can be fixed :( planned on spending day in on the deck, it's about 75% done and now I am stuck here, I really messed up! Smh, I feel horrible!
I don't think it can be fixed... so now I sit trying to figure this all out.
Hope everyone else is doing well. It's a beautiful sunny day do I guess I'll go out and do some weeding and clean the patio. Geesh!

That response by Shawn's Mother to Lacy was awesome. So amazing! It is good that Lacy has found someone new and I wish her the best.

Sounds like Anne is doing well also.

Good news all around.

Love it that you came by to update us. We do miss you!

I barely get time to think lately, much less stop by here. Sorry I've been absent for so long. Still kickin', so to speak.

We had a gorgeous weekend here in MN. Didn't do much, although we did make our annual pilgrimage to Alma, WI to say hello-goodbye to Shawny. Bittersweet, but it's getting better with time. Lacy's found herself a very, very nice young man, Nick. Kolten adores him and Shawn's family has been supportive. His mom, especially, so that's helped a lot. When Lacy told her, she responded with, "you're going to be a widow forever, but that doesn't mean you have to be alone". How SWEET!

Anne and the kids are doing well. She's got a real job now and she's going to therapy at the VA regularly. She's actually working in a daycare. It's good because they discount daycare for her since her disability doesn't go very far and baby-daddies are still not stepping up. Ah well....... Paperwork is in and moving at a snail's pace for that as well.

Freddy and I are doing well. Keeping busy. He's basically retired and I'll probably die at my desk. But that's okay, I love my job. Last day of pre-school was last Friday, so two more weeks, sans children is going to be nice and I work Tuesdays all summer. Gets lots done with little distraction.

I think you're up to date!
Ciao for now!

It rained yesterday afternoon... my deck is the last piece of work to be done from a year ago's hail storm. The guy power washed it last week. This week he pounded in the protruding nails and sanded. But it needs the long weekend to dry... hopefully Monday the stain will go on. It looks 100% better already between the power wash, the attention to those nails, and the sanding... but it's an oil based stain so needs to be fully dry before it goes on or it will peel right off as the wood inside TRIES to breathe.

He brought a young fella with him, to demonstrate what dry is and isn't when he came out to inspect it this afternoon.

Now, to keep myself in line for the next 3 days... on Sunday it should be a nice day for a run/walk! emoticon emoticon

More sunshine today and the waters are receding. I understand St. Louis is still getting it today.

Our Granddaughter graduates from Jr. College this month. She got a scholarship to Southeastern Oklahoma State in Talequa, Oklahoma.

So thankful today for the sunshine...

Yes, it's the Lincoln National Guard Marathon / Half Marathon. I dropped back from the full to the half, and have been cleared to WALK it, and even jog some intervals... we'll see what the day gives me. It's not going to be a PR, unless it's for the slowest half marathon I've ever done.

We have lots of localized flooding so watch the news when we have to drive anywhere. We are safe as we live on a Bluff almost 10 miles from the Mississippi. Our problem is the smaller rivers between us and Quincy and us and Hannibal.

Sunday on the way into Church, there was a paddle wheeler in the Quincy Bay. We had never seen it there and found out it is there only because of the flooding and the water is deep enough in the bay for the boat right now. Usually, it is too shallow for this type of boat.
I posted a photo of it on my FB page.

Take care team and thanks for asking about us. We are safe! Thank goodness.

Is your marathon there? I will be praying as I certainly don't want you to fall again. Do keep us posted, Barb.

Congrats on your son's promotion, Sandee! And so excited that you'll be able to collect those in-person hugs before Joel sails off, Connie.

Sunny, saw the Missouri flood waters on the news, hope you're not TOO close to them, sunshine today notwithstanding! It's starting to shine here, too, in fact quite pleasant today, and going to be nice for the marathon/half marathon next Sunday.

Pray for me... my goal will be to not fall down, and be smiling across the finish line. Preferably in under 4 hours.

Sunshine here today so color me happy. We have not seen the sun in over a week. Tomorrow and Thursday, more rain.

I leave to Seattle to visit my son, Joel, before he heads out-he will be gone 6-10 months this time headind west :( I can't post exactly where but I pray for his safety. I'll be going Mothers Day and can't wait to spend quality time with him for almost 2 weeks.

Measure your perceived level of effort... 10 minutes at an intense level is a mile. 20 minutes at a moderate level is a mile. Kind of converted to the effort of running versus walking.

Add up the miles thus converted, add them to the last posted team total, and there we have it!

Agree, a little too soon for the upper peninsula as far as the weather but it is beautiful ;) My grandson is a lucky guy to be able to work up there, a great experience.
Managed to rake a few hours today, and they were wet and heavy. I'm hopping over to our challenge to post :)

Upper Michigan is beautiful, even though wet and chilly. Sometimes wet and chilly is what we want, in the hot Summer! What a great opportunity for your grandson!

Down here in allergen-laden Nebraska (the lilacs are in bloom, my worst time), the "kid" who has mowed my grass for the past couple of years tells me he can start but not do the whole season... because he will be leaving for basic training! Feel like a military mom all over again. His brother is willing to take over the mowing job... training them up.

Hope you all are gearing up for the Summer ahead... because time sure is flying!

Oh my goodness, very wet and chilly up here in north Michigan! Could not do much raking or yard work ;( but I was able to go up to Mackinac bridge where my grandson is moving for the summertime, he'll be working on the ferries going out to the island, beautiful place! He's 19 so a great opportunity as many from around the world visit. It should be a great experience ;)

I saw my pulmonologist today for my semi annual lung function test. It was the best I have had in the past 4 years and doc was extremely happy as was I. He also was thrilled about the total weight loss I have had since February - 12#'s. Now, I need to focus on the next 12#'s.

All in all, it was an extremely good day!!

Hugs to you all, Sunny

I remember those noises all too well. After my fall in St. Louis, the last thing I wanted to do was have another so went through all of those tests. They never did pin point an exact cause so might well have been because I am a klutz too.

Checking it all out is the right thing to do.

Do have a wonderful trip! Keep us posted when you get some results.

I am off to the sun room and to my bike.

I have no problem mixing chat with our miles, as sometimes that's just where we land!

I saw Sharon's FB post, too. Hope she's recovering well!

I spent this morning in a noisy machine... at least 40 - 45 minutes of it. My mind started counting the clicks, horn blasts, and bell sounds of the MRI, turning it into a sound track or a symphony while I kept my eyes closed and did a yoga-like focus on my breathing.

Then they did an ultra sound of my carotids. Trying to figure out what's behind some dizziness and headaches, particularly what's happening with the falls of the Winter. Might turn out to be just an expensive way to find out there's nothing detectable, I'm just a klutz, but you know as well as I, these things need to be checked out.

There's no winning with a second-guessing brain... but I must be MOSTLY functional as my memory found the production problem at work without much sweat.

Won't have results for a few days... I'll probably be in the air or even in Boston. None of the techs had the blood drain from their faces or ran out to call the doctor immediately, so that's good, right?

Thanks, Barb. We haven't really had a Chit Chat thread since we started the challenge.

BTW, I saw on FB today that our Sharon is in the hospital with Kidney Stones. Bless her heart or maybe I should say Kidneys.

Hope you stop by soon Sharon and let us know how you are doing.

I think it's time for a new Chit-Chat Thread... although, we kind of have moved some of the conversation over to our 2017 miles challenge thread...
