Sunday check in: looks like Winter has decided it's not QUITE done yet. But the snow is melting in the upper 30's today, and should be in the 40's to run tomorrow afternoon.

Here and good to go! Our weather has been crazy-good too! Hasn't helped me get out and about on these danged knees, but I love having the windows open. I'm going with good fortune.

Sunday morning check in... how's everyone doing? We've had incredibly mild weather for February this week in Nebraska... broke the record high temperatures twice. All the ice on my nearby running venue lake has melted. It's going to be a shock to the system when Mother Nature remembers what time of year it is and we get socked with freezing temps and snow or ice again.

Global warming? Or good fortune?

Hello, Team
Haven't had my laptop all week, husband borrowed it for a class he's teaching and my i can't figure out how to get to the military m's on my cellphone app.
Been working tons, filling in for a coworker who had some unexpected surgery. Its ok, my husband and I are heading down to Gulf Shores in March so xtra $ will be good. Also, I will be flying to Seattle to fare my Navy son goodbye. He will be shipping out end of May, or early June. We are planning a long hiking trip somewhere out there in Seattle with his wife and my grandkids. I have never been out there so I am looking forward to it. Scares me to think that he will be away for near a year. Happy that I am able to get out there before he leaves...
Ill be back, lots of catching up to do but wanted to say hello. Happy to be back.
Praying for all our soldiers, lots of things going on in our world.

My R.E.D. is on, too... isn't it great when we get credit for multiple reasons... all for wearing red on Fridays... but for most of US, we know the cause that is at the "heart" is our beloved service members!

Prayers for all, and their families back home!

Sunday morning, time to check in with the team... made it through a whole week without falling. emoticon Sounds like I'm 85 or something, but those of you who have had falls whether in parking lots, at home, or like me on trails while training... know that it's something to celebrate when you remain upright and uninjured!

Not much else... the ice storm came, we survived, and it melted away... can we say "January thaw"? We still have two more months of Winter to survive, though, despite this little teaser.

The new President has been sworn in, and we as military families will see how this plays out in ways that other families may not.

Hope all are well... check in when you can... pray as always for our service members around the world as they fulfill their duties, and for their families at home.

Whew! I'm very thankful for driving out in our freezing rain this morning. Northern IL is getting our 'fringe share' of the ice storm and it's making driving, walking and basically movement of any kind outside really difficult. (I almost fell trying to put out Snow Melt on our sidewalk and top of our driveway when I got back from taking my DH to work.) I'm definitely ready for a 'warm up!'

Thanks, Barb, for your encouraging words of staying in touch and supplying deployed DS & Co with 'extras.' Our community and the organizations that I belong to have been really helpful and supportive and are helping keep them 'stocked!'

Glare ice on the streets, walks and drive this morning. Power still intact, thank goodness. School are closed, and it's a Holiday at work for me, so I'm staying tucked up inside for the day. It's going to be dancing right around freezing for the temperature, just perfect to keep accumulating ice... and we're in that ice storm warning until 3 a.m. tomorrow. Winds are supposed to pick up later in the day, too... so for me, the biggest concern is power: if it stays on, I'm going to be fine... I don't need to go anywhere!

Glad you're getting to sit this one out, Sharon! We too will get a thaw later in the week, in fact next weekend supposed to get up to 47... but that doesn't always mean the footing is good for those of us who run! We saw ice patches last Saturday where there had been shade on the trails.

Stay safe and warm, team!

Barb, you are correct, those of us up north are missing the worst of the snow/ice storms. We do expect 1 - 3 inches of snow tomorrow afternoon and sleet that could freeze and mess up the evening commute....but later in the week we're getting a January thaw. Possibly 40 on Wednesday! Unheard of!

Have a great week everybody! I need to get over to the miles board and fill in my totals. I have been writing them down on scratch paper. This weekend was a bust...necessary paperwork kept me on my butt most of the time.

Sandee, those communications while deployed are what gets us moms back home through! And often, our soldiers, too.

I did a lot of over-filling the CARE packages I would send to my son, knowing he would share with his "battle buddies". I pretty much got weekly contact, except when they shut it off for security reasons.

Glad you were able to have FaceTime again!

Sending well wishes for all who are in the central Midwestern states and experiencing the ice storms that have hopefully moved through! I was born and raised in Kansas and very vividly remember driving on those ice covered roads (I lived on a farm so walking was only a problem if you 'got out' of your home area!)

I'm feeling blessed again that we were able to FaceTime with our deployed youngest son this morning. Through our community efforts, over 20 boxes of Care Packages were mailed out last week to he and his Company of soldiers, half of whom are on their first deployment. Even though our son had put in a very long, hard week on duty, he was able to laugh and joke with my DH & I. It meant the world to this Army Mom X 2!

Everyone stay safe and warm!

Sunday update time... don't know how many are "out of power" or "offline" with the ice blanketing the Midwest, but I'm thinking those North of me are probably fine... it hit Kansas and Missouri yesterday... it's supposed to start here sometime in the next five hours.

I'm tucked in at home and praying we don't get the worst of it. Filling up water bottles rather than going out and buying bottled water (in case your pipes burst, they say)... but I'd seriously have other thermal issues before the pipes burst! If it's not safe to drive or walk (ice), hunkering down is what one does.

Hope you're all safe, warm and dry!

So glad you got FaceTime with your son, Sandee! I didn't often get Skype from my son, but Instant Messages worked well for us... he reserved his Skype budget for his wife, as a young man should!

Hi Connie & Team! We felt so blessed to FaceTime with our son during his deployment today! He seemed to be relaxed and in good spirits so we had a pretty light hearted conservation about how he & his 9 month mission are starting out. I was also able to get his APO this time so I'll be contacting multiple organizations to send he & his soldiers Care Packages. (He's the XO for his Company so I know he'll make sure everything gets to all the soldiers.). Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers! Sandee

Time for a Sunday morning check in... notice in the Team Digest nobody posted in our chit-chat thread last week! However, several of us found the Challenge thread and have been posting our miles:

www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes
sa
geboard_thread.asp?board=525x7444x65R>895091

Please feel free to join in if you haven't already... we're trying to "walk the year" in miles. But you can run, swim, bike or dance your miles... anything active... it all counts!

I worked my last "full time" week last week, and look forward to starting the new Part Time schedule (30 hour weeks) tomorrow. However, I'll have other tasks filling up my days and evenings, so it's not going to start off with routine. My retired sister is doing her travel to see her kids in the next couple of weeks, so I get "kitty watch" for those first two weeks.

Also my in real life Triathlon team is having a meet tomorrow evening, and the Born and Raced in Nebraska series blackout is having their celebration of 2016 and anticipation of 2017 on Thursday evening. Plus, marathon training... I signed up for the 26.2 mile distance on May 7th. Four months sounds like a long time, but when you're talking about building a basis from which that long a "race" is feasible without injury? Not long at all.

Hope things are well with all of you and yours!

Yes, Sharon, official start is January 1st... at 365 days into 2017 miles, that means we have to average a little over 5.5 miles a day to finish in 2017! But it's ALL of us put together. If three of us do it, it's only about 2 miles apiece every day. And since walking counts, I can use my recess numbers... so... there we go!

Anybody up for a MILEAGE challenge? I'm thinking along the lines of "How long will it take our team to walk, bike, run, dance, or whatever the YEAR in MILES". How long do y'all think it will take use collectively to cover 2017 miles?

Conversion for non-mileage measured activity: moderate intensity - 20 minutes = 1 mile, high intensity you can have a mile for just 10 minutes!

If I get a couple of positive responses to this as a proposed challenge, I'll makes us a challenge thread!

A Sample post:
Team total: 0
First run 5K: 3.1 miles
New team total: 3.1 miles

Let me know... are you in? OR, do you have an alternate challenge proposal?

Hi Team!

Also hoping everyone had a blessed and memorable Christmas! We were thankful to at least be able to FaceTime with our Active Duty soldier on both Sat. and again on Sunday. He deployed for his second time to the Middle East on Monday. I'm really hoping this deployment brings more and better communication between he, his wife (who is State side) and us than his first one there.

Just thinking of our son, and all other men & women stationed away from home during especially the holidays.

Everyone have a safe and Happy New Year!

It was unusual weather here, too, Sharon... whoever heard of thunderstorms on Christmas Day... in Nebraska? But that's what we got... rain and high winds. December 26th news showed trailers blown over (travel trailers, not homes, thank goodness!)

But it was a good Christmas... quiet and with appropriate reverence: enough solitude AND enough family!

Hope the rest of the team is doing well... anybody giving thought to a challenge? Connie seems up for one! What are we thinking, team?

Hi Team!

Here's hoping you all had a wonderful Christmas. It was a whirlwind here, but a very happy whirlwind. Everybody is so busy, with so many places to go....but everybody managed to be here from 8pm until 10:30 Christmas Eve, (Some arrived earlier, some stayed later, but for that couple of hours we were all together, and I'll take it! Lisa and Ryan were able to come back for a few hours on Christmas Day too, and after they left John and I just crashed. It was a very busy couple of weeks but I enjoyed every minute. I haven't started the undecorating yet, though I personally wouldn't mind....John would have a fit. So we are still basking in the glow.

One more day off for me....daycare has been closed since Friday. Hopefully I'll get some neglected stuff around the house done tomorrow since John has to go back to work, and I do much better when he's not around.

Within the past week we've had pretty much every weather phenomenon around, including almost a foot of new snow, freezing rain, double-digit below zero temps with dangerous wind chills, and then yesterday thunderstorms with 50 mph winds! Crazy! It's settling down now and I'm happy to be indoors. I hope you are all safe and warm too.

Hi team....BRRRRRRR, I hope you are hunkered down! It got down to -27 here. (yes, below zero, and that's not including the "real feel" with the wind chill.) But we're on the upswing, it should actually get above zero tomorrow. I postponed our spaghetti dinner party for relatives yesterday due to road conditions, and instead had a fun build your own pizza bar with just our kids and their spouses. Much more relaxed, just what the doctor ordered. Yesterday was Jeff's birthday, and the pizza bar was his idea.

Presents are wrapped except a few yet to arrive...I LOVE Amazon Prime! And everything is packed for the next event, my side of the family's white elephant pot luck, which I am hosting at Jeff & Abbi's party room on Wednesday evening. It's a lot to haul back and forth, but my house stays clean, so it's all good! The halls are decked, the baking done, the daycare family party over with...I'm in such a better place than I was when last I checked in. As they always say, this too shall pass...and it did!

I hope you are all in a similar state of mind, with no holiday stress. In this week before we celebrate Jesus' holy birth, I wish you all the joys of the season!

Sunday morning check-in: the Winter weather has arrived in spades here... came as freezing rain on Friday, and over the weekend we are looking at bitter cold, as in minus signs in front of the F temps. My phone is claiming -9F at the moment. BRRRR!

Residential streets, untreated, slick as anything. So, hiding inside yesterday and will continue today. Supposed to go do Holiday dinner with the kids when son gets off work today. We'll see if that happens. This is make-up for the Thanksgiving meal we were GOING to have together the Sunday after TG, when I canceled for cause. Scheduled this one last week... perhaps the universe is trying to throw roadblocks in our way?

Still... hope you're all staying safe and warm, and that your service members are also!

So sorry you're "under the weather", speaking of which, you've got a lot of that (Winter weather) up there! I have niece, nephew, great-niece up in North Dakota, where they have been shellacked, too.

A holiday mojo sounds about right... put the Nutcracker on the boom box while packing my work food bag this morning!

Let the holiday mojo roll, team... what's happening with YOURS?

HI Team! Hoping all the holiday prep is full swing for everybody so when it's all said and done we can sit back and enjoy the reason for the season and the fruits of our labor.

Barb, I've been following your progress and throwing in an extra prayer for quick and full recovery. You are one tough cookie.

Connie, it's especially hard when so many losses are happening at this particular time on the calendar. I hope you're doing well, and I bet your house looks amazing!

I've been under the weather again...I won't bore you with the details, but I did blog about it. I hope to be back on my feet later today from my most recent malady.

Let's all get our holiday mojo going!

Well, team, THIS is a new adventure, and perhaps it will give me a HINT of what our men and women go through when they are injured in training or the field. Those of you who see me on FaceBook or follow my blogs already know this: I fell during a training run a week ago yesterday. I apparently bounced my head, and at first it looked as though the worst was the cut on my upper right eyelid.

The ER stitched that up, did a CAT scan, and sent me home.

The symptoms that indicated concussion showed up later in the process... 24 hours later, nausea, which thankfully only lasted two days. Third day in, started paying attention to dizzy spells. Throughout recovery, fatigue, indicating the need for additional sleep.

My doctor removed the exterior stitches on Thursday. But the residual concussive symptoms? I continue to monitor. Digestive tract working again. Dizzy spells pretty much limited to rapid motion / spinning, so being cautious there. And I'm enforcing an 8 p.m. bedtime.

I'm not back to running yet, nor am I working full time days yet... but I am bit by bit, recovering.

Hope all of you are overcoming whatever challenges have been laid in your paths, and savoring each day, for LIFE is good.

Connie, I am SO very sorry for your loss and what your son has to deal with. Both terrible situations. It's just horrible to lose one so young and no easier for children to lose their parents. Prayers for everyone.

My son, Joel, will be flying home tomorrow night for 4 days. His dad is very sick, cancer, and he wants to see him before his passing. His Dr says it won't be long...I probably won't see much of him while he is here, I will be stepping aside for this sad occasion.
Also, my niece just passed away this week from a car accident, she was 29 ;( Total shock for our family. My husband and I still managed to enjoy a wonderful feast at daughters and I think I gained that 4 lbs recently lost.. What can I say?
I hope everyone here had a fun filled, loving time with family and friendsπŸ¦ƒ I'm off to TRY and log all the food I managed to stuff myself with today!

It's the 20th, Connie; the 17th would have been my mom's... we used to celebrate together, and it always brings her to my thoughts. She would have been 87... but she passed at 66!

Just one more reminder to live life NOW, don't put it off!

Sorry to hear this bad news, Sharon! I'll never understand taking ones own life, how devastating and lost they must feel, so very sorry! Today marks one year of a coworker's son, early 20s, who was in a house fire. He passed away months later after a long battle. So hard to witnesss the hell she is dealing with and now you will also with your friends. I can't imagine. Hoping you feel better soon!
Where is Sunny?
Still trying to remember date of Barbs bday😜

Sharon, I'm SO sorry! It's just so sad that these children don't get the help they need to help them realize that life is so precious. Prayers for the family.
Prayers for your quick recovery.

We're still moving forward. HUGE step back last week, but I don't want to rehash it as it's done and hopefully done for good. I HATE PTSD and abuse and everything it tries to take from everyone's happiness.

Sorry I've been MIA....lots going on!

Friday I started feeling ill and a sore throat developed over the day....then that same day my 50 year old nephew had a heart attack! He's still in the hospital, they placed a stent Saturday and are monitoring, hopeful that he can go home tomorrow. With lifestyle changes they are hopeful that he will make a full recovery, PTL. Also on Saturday my sore throat was considerably worse, so I went in to the Minute Clinic and was diagnosed with strep throat. Thanks to the penicillin, I'm better tonight.

However, I was contagious until 24 hours after starting meds, so did not go to church today. There's a family in the parish that we were pretty close to when the kids were younger, but you know how it goes...we had drifted apart. They had some bad news to share today, and another friend from church that knows how close we once were stopped by to tell us. I'm so glad she did, or we wouldn't have learned until it was too late....but their 25 year old son -- a young man who had SO MUCH going for him -- had taken his own life earlier in the week and his visitation was this afternoon, funeral tomorrow. We were literally crushed....he was the second child in this family of 4 kids. His older brother had been Jeff's best friend in Junior High. They all 3 played football together, were in the same Boy Scout Troop, (of which John and I were actively involved, so we knew this young man quite well even though he was a couple of years younger than Jeff.) and church activities. We went to the visitation this afternoon, and of course the family is devastated. I would have never guessed of the demons this vital young man was fighting. It's very humbling....they are a family just like ours. And I selfishly think: there but for the grace of God go I. Hold your loved ones close...and if you don't mind, please hold this family in your prayers.

It was a beautiful weekend, tainted for me by all the bad news, but I can't believe how great the weather is for mid-November! It doesn't even seem like it's almost Thanksgiving. I hope it's been as nice for you, and that everybody was able to get out and enjoy! Have a good upcoming week.

Just passed the 7 year anniversary of the Fort Hood thing, and survived the day... here's the stuff if spurred me to do:

Today I shall toe the starting line with these folks on my mind and heart again. Half Marathon with another military mom, MJREIMERS, who may not be a member of this team but wears our shoes, ladies. My son Jon will also be running/walking, although he's grumbling that he may walk a good portion as grad school has done a number on his training regimen, that, and the dog getting older.

Looks like his battles aren't running with, just as my cousins had to bail for other life challenges (would you believe breast cancer survival takes precedence? I would!)... so for these, and all others who cannot run... I run. emoticon

Sounds like things are looking up for all my fellow MM&P's, and that's awesome!

Barb, congrats on pulling the trigger. It's a tough decision to make, I'm sure, but I'm glad you listened to your heart, and so happy for you. Although I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up doing some consulting work. (which is a win-win anyway!)

Connie, congrats on the weight loss. I fear I'm going in the other direction, so I'm totally jealous. I know how hard that is, and I hope you are proud!

Carla, I just knew things would turn around for you, and I couldn't be happier. Keep us posted on the latest!

Sunny is on another team with me, and she's around and doing well....just really busy. We don't see her all the time over there either, but I'm sure she'll be back here with us soon!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a great weekend....a little lazy time, a few chores got done, a wonderful evening with John and the kids...I am blessed.

Hope you all had a Happy Halloween! November, here we come!

Woo-hoo on that 4 pounds gone, Connie!

This morning I told the boss I want to move that date up and not commute this Winter. Gave him the option of coming up with a part-time overlap for someone to transition into my job... and it might be a couple of weeks before I know whether that (part-time) is possible. His boss is out this week, so he won't have some of these things in motion until the second level gets back.

I could say I'm retiring early for health reasons... but I'd be interpreting that in a slightly non-standard way: to run a marathon. emoticon

Yaaay, Carla!!! So glad life is going better for you and your family! Yes, indeed, God is Good!!
Barb, it is a tough decision about retiring. My husband retired 10 years ago but at times he fills in and works a few hours here and there. I work only part time now, per diem, but Work keeps me busy! I'm thinking in about another couple of years I'll find something else to do. It's a tough decision. I agree, I think we are as busy retired as when we work. Good luck on deciding and with your next race;)
Sunny is missing! Maybe she is vacationing? Hope all is well,
Happy Halloween!!!πŸŽƒ
BTW! 4 lbs lost in last 2. Weeks! First time in over a year! Posting helps me, for sure

First, had another foster want to return Gauge. (the mini-horse, Great Dane, don't know if I've told you about him) Anne's idea of a service dog. He's just a lover, but he's a FREAKIN' HORSE!!! So, moving back into the condo, she can't have any animals, and he's not trained "yet", probably never will be, IMHO. We've been working for WEEKS trying to find a FURever home for him. Wracking my brain the other night and I posted on my MoMs page, JHS page and HS page around 1700. By 2200, had a home from FIVE bonafide offers!!! We took him up there today.

SAME day, Anne gets a call from the local taxidermist. Okay, so she and "ds" (dipsh**) went to MT to study taxidermy in July/August and we had the kids. They had a great time and Anne fell in love with it. One of the things she was really upset about when she left Iowa was that she figured she'd left that too. (you remember she only had time to grab one of her creations, the bobcat?) So, she goes down to the local guy about three weeks ago and asks if he needs help. He says no. She sees him at least 5-6 times over the next three weeks at the restaurant, bar, grocery store, gas station......... it's a God-thing, right? So, he calls her the same day that we ended up finding a home for Gauge and says, "when can you start?" His brother/partner and best friend have been bugging him ever since meeting her to hire her because HE NEEDS THE HELP!!! So she calls me in a panic, can I start, when, kids?!? I said, tell him you can work 1515 until whenever. She tells him she can start at 1515 and she'd "like to" run home at 1945 to put the kids to bed and then she'd come back and work until he wanted to be done. He said, perfect, see ya this afternoon! Done-deal, she has a job!!! And the schedule is exactly what she can deal with right now and he's a family man and insists family comes first so she's even got tomorrow night off to go trick-or-treating with the kids.

GOD IS GOOD!!!

Sheesh, time flies... I haven't checked in here for two weeks! Sharon, hope you had a great birthday. How is everyone?

I'm a week out from my next half marathon... the last of 2016. Thinking hard about my retirement date. I was under the weather several days in the past two weeks (probably an element of why I hadn't checked in)... and it jump-started this re-thinking. Originally I had planned to retire the end of this year. Then when the kids had financial/medical emergencies, I thought I'd wait another year... only now, coming up on that original date? The desire to not have to commute through another Winter pulls at me.

So... number crunching in progress. On the surface it looks do-able... and I know I'd not be "bored"... lots of things need doing (WAY past time to de-stuff the house) and want doing (that full marathon in May won't happen without some attention to training). As I said to my boss two years ago, I want to retire while my body still lets me do these things, and I need the training time.

Push-pull of decision making in progress!

Hope all are well... Connie, did you get things buttoned down up North? Sunny... where are you? Carla, hope things aren't TOO wild in your neck of the woods. Wilma... how about you?

Thanksgiving plans anyone? My now retired elder sister has decided to opt out of traveling on holidays (now that she's not forced into that schedule by work demands) and will be hosting in town this year. emoticon

That sounds like a fabulous road trip! If you do come out our way I will be glad to throw some suggestions out there, as I'm sure everybody else will too!

Lazy day today....can't believe it's almost over! I have nothing concrete planned for this weekend, but a lot of good intentions of getting stuff done. So far, not much is happening though. Then again, we all need a day like this now and again. It's a beautiful fall day, so we hopped in the car and hit a few garage sales, then I accompanied John while he drove to the disposal site with the trailer to get rid of a bunch of brush. Lol, that's about all!

But here's to lazy weekends, beautiful fall days, and another weekend day looming ahead to make up for today's inactivity. Enjoy your weekend too Ladies!
