Well, DIL went home on Tuesday, after 10 days in hospital, and she's looking at a long recovery... back to work date in July tentatively. So, what do I do? Go out and train. Can't make things better for the kids by sitting about and worrying, nor by putting myself in their faces... so best thing is to manage my own reactions.

Took the car in for its recall repair today. Just pumped up Sophia's tires, looking to do a bike/run "brick" (back to back) workout. emoticon emoticon Which should be a good "practice" for next weekend's last minute decision to do my very first Duathlon: run 2 miles, bike 12, run 2 more... that's the drill, and it is a Memorial event, so I even put down a specific name... SSG Amy Krueger. I never had a daughter, but she was among my son's "sisters" in training.

Other than all that... life's pretty good. Health is holding up.

Hope that everyone is gearing up for a good Memorial Day weekend... can you believe it's only a week away?

- Barb

At least I'm glad the pneumonia is on the way out, Sharon!

The bad news of the day... the insurance wars are keeping my DIL in the hospital over the weekend. The issue is "medical appropriateness" of a device, a wound vac... the insurance company wants to not cover it if she goes home! The insurance people who make the decisions don't work the weekend, so she's stuck.

Son's headed to work on zero sleep tonight. Makes me tired just thinking of it...

I really, really need tomorrow's bike ride! emoticon I can't fix things for the kids, but going out and doing something very physical will help *me* deal better!

Add me to the list! I haven't gained as much as I'd feared I had what with all the illnesses/injuries/recuperation....but still a gain. My ticker is not trued up, but I've given myself just a few weeks to get it there or change it to reflect the gain. Let's go girls!

I'm feeling much better from the pneumonia, just coughing now but from what I understand that could take a long time to be truly over. I'm done with all meds now, and supposed to go in for a re-check, but it's just so hard to get away! My arm is progressing nicely too, no pain any longer but still a lot of weakness. I can raise it about 90 degrees now, up from zero a couple of months ago. I'm doing lots of strengthening exercises and hoping this will get me back to 100% eventually. Also trying to work my way back up on the fitbit step board. I've been in so much pain and so weak, not to mention exhausted, I've spent more time in my recliner lately than I care to admit. My steps have brought me down to last place on my friend board - and believe me, I have some sedentary people (Not to mention the go-getters) on my board. I have a goal to increase my daily steps by 500 daily until I get back where I should be. I feel strong enough now, but just so worried about a relapse if I go too quickly.

It sounds like we've all got our reasons, legitimate ones, for failing to do our best -- but hopefully we can all get back on track now and be ready to enjoy summer. (If it ever comes.) In the 50's here today, only barely getting into the 60's for the next week. But enjoy your weekends everybody!

Sunny, you are not alone! I have put weight on also! I have been tracking food but no motivation for the exercise🙃I know that's what I need to do in order for weight loss.
Hurry and get better and we can figure out some sort of challenge for motivation???
Glad your DIL is on the mend, Barb!!i did not notice your typo-LOL

I just got the e-mail announcing that someone had responded to this thread... and noticed my typo in creating it... did anybody else notice how I THREATENED us with chit-chat this month? emoticon I thought I had fixed that! emoticon THREAD, not THREAT, Barb!

Connie, sounds like you have a plate full, there with people in your life and home! Hope that despite all of that there does come time for "North".

Sunny, yes, you CAN do it, and your HEALTH is the best reason to do so! emoticon Cheering you on!

We all need to take care of US, or we won't be there for the others we so love! I got the heads up from my son while I was driving home. Looks like his wife will be discharged tomorrow. Which means Mom's Taxi service will be on call. I'm hoping the call comes early, and I can get her home, and still make it to Sis's retirement bash. Son will be back from his commitment mid-afternoon, so chances are he'll be able to take over in time, if all goes as planned.

So glad she's going to get to go finish her recuperation at home. Six days in a hospital cannot have been "fun"! But getting better is a good thing, and that was the best place for her this week.

OK... breathe! Hugs to all,

- Barb

Good to see you here, Connie.

You do sound busy.

I went for my PFT (pulmonary lung function) today and while the #'s had improved, doc was not happy about my weight. Seems I have put on 20#'s in the past year and a half (since the fall). While he understood, he said my 3's would improve if I got rid of the weight. I start Pulmonary Rehab on the 24th and I know that will help but I need to move more and do less sitting. I can do it, I know I can and doc has given me the motivation.

Take care and do enjoy your visit with Lino.

Hugs, Sunny

So glad the hail did not get you, Barb.

Feeling better and actually was able to get out to Church on Sunday. Yea!

Today, haircuts after a stop at my favorite place - Subway.

Take care and do have a Terrific Tuesday.

Good to see you, Sharon! Of course I see you on FB sometimes, so I know you're still out there in the real world, but good to have you here, too.

Sorry about the pneumonia! Not fun stuff. Glad the PT is doing it's job.

And yeah, this getting old, as mama said, is not for the faint of heart!

Drama on this end includes a hospital stay for daughter in law, and stormy weather... windows of cars taken out by baseball sized hail within 2-3 miles of my house last night... fortunately for me, didn't get the worst of it here.

Hope everybody is hanging in there, and weathering whatever life's throwing your way!

Hi everybody....remember me?

I've not been much of a teammate lately nor even much of a Sparker, but I did want to check in and see what's going on! And the new May thread seemed like just the venue!

Like Sunny I've been recovering from pneumonia for the past week. Prior to that I was miserably sick for a couple of weeks not realizing what was really wrong. Also still in active rehab for my rotator cuff surgery which was now over 4 months ago. I'm making progress but it's taking longer than I'd hoped. My shoulder pain is nearly gone now and I can do so much more. But the strength is not coming back as quick as I would have liked. My physical therapy is down to every-other-week now and soon will wind down completely. Sheesh, getting old is great, isn't it?

Hoping you are all doing well and I look forward to reconnecting. Happy May everybody!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you Military Mama's.

Thanks Barb for starting the May thread. Rich and I got the pneumonia before the 1st of the month so didn't get it started.

So glad your Brother did so well. Awesome!

Take care team and have a GREAT week.

Look at that, May 8th, and we hadn't got a thread started! Quiet bunch us... or rather, busy bunch!

My last update in the April thread had me headed out to Boston... that trips been over for a while. My brother did great, re-qualifying, so if he chooses to do so he can run it again in 2017. My coach did great, too... he even had his picture on a banner on Boylston street. I got my own 12 mile run in during that trip, in Boston, around many great landmarks.

Then I came home, went back to work... and ran my 13th half marathon last Sunday. The week in between has been a bit of a blur... dusted off my commuting bike as the sunlight / temperature / precipitation picture changed enough to do so this week, and rode to work two days. I could tell the difference between Wednesday and Friday how well I was recovering from Sunday's race.

Other than that... my son graduated with his BA yesterday. And now I'm typing from a hospital waiting room as his wife is having her appendix removed. Yikes! What a day!

Hope things are going well with all! Life speeds on, doesn't it?
