Happy New's Eve everyone. Big Hugs back to you Marilyn and everyone!

Jenny, thanks for sharing how you are doing. So happy for you!

DJ, so nice to see a post from you! Happy New Year. Come by whenever you can!

Renee, you had a great 2019 and so happy to share with you all the good things to come in 2020.

We are having a very quiet relaxing evening at home. Want to watch the Rose Bowl Parade in the morning. The float for my church synod is #9 I believe so hopefully will not miss it.

Have a restful evening everyone!

Jenny, I am so happy for you! Update your ticker!

DJ, it's so good to see you here!

I overate at dinner today. Not too many calories, it was my usual barley/bean bowl size, but I was full about 2/3 of the way through and failed to check in with myself as I was eating. I was too focused on Facebook to realize I was already full, so I just kept eating. Now I feel uncomfortable. I have recently given myself permission to throw away some food if I get full, now I just have to remember to ask myself!

Happy 2020 everyone! 2019 was a great year for me in several ways, and I am looking forward to what the new decade will bring!

Aloha Everybody -

Decided to come and check in before year end. My break has been the longest I've taken from Spark/internet in general and probably will continue into 2020 for various reasons. I've not had time to catch up with the posts here this morning but wanted all to know I've kept you in thought/prayer and will continue to do so.

Things have really been changing for me these past few weeks - good, bad, in between - ha! Been a whirlwind. Lots of "transitioning" in thought, behavior, spiritual growth going on ... as it seems to be with many here as well ...

I do not want to commit or even anticipate "when" my break will be over and when I might be back posting ... but just know my prayers are for the best outcomes for each and every one of you here.

Blessings to all, dj

Renee: This is so wonderful about your weight loss. 55 pounds is awesome!! Keep it up!

Jenny: Congratulations on meeting your weight goal!

Marilyn: How awesome to have such a supportive husband. Goal setting. That's not something I've put any real thought into.
I know I'm getting older - 50 my next birthday - and I understand that metabolic rates slow, so I'm trying to keep that in mind. I do know that I need to stick closer to my eating plan. I've found success in that. So, I probably should go ahead and get some realistic goals figured out.

Since having my son here, getting in my exercise has been put by the wayside. So, outside of shoveling, I've not had any exercise days since 12/11.

I took my end-of-year photo and compared it with my end-of-year from 2018. I didn't lose any belly fat. My daughter said "Just think where you would have been if you had given up altogether". She's right. I'm going to be honest. Some days I feel like banging my head into the wall.

Well, it's about time for me to wake my son up. He doesn't work this week, but he does have 'class'. Have a great day!

Jenny, that's wonderful! I'm so happy for you! emoticon

Marilyn, you now know what sugar and flour does to you, so I expect you won't deviate from your plan again. I love that your husband is so supportive!

It would be wonderful if you could sleep in a bed again soon. My husband and I sleep separately because he snores so loud! It keeps me up! He sleeps in another room with the door closed. He was tested for apnea but doesn't have it (I do and use a CPAP). For my part, I move around a lot in my sleep and used to wake him up a lot. So we do better sleeping in our own beds. It's okay, we've been married 16 years now, together 17, we know we love each other. emoticon

I am definitely in a plateau. I weighed exactly 213.0 again this morning. It's okay, I lost 55 pounds this year and that is a definite victory. The scale will move again.

The intuitive eating book I am reading says you stop weighing yourself at all, but I am not quite ready for that yet. I had previously said I could weigh three times a month on the 10th, 20th, and 30th. For now I intend to do it on one, two, or all three of those days. My long-term goal for 2020 is to stop weighing myself completely and go by my clothing size as a measure of success. I was in a 28, am in an 18 now, and have a goal of 14.

The office manager at my volunteer job asked me how much more weight I had lost, as I looked thinner again. I had just been maintaining 213. So maybe more inches are coming off, I don't know. It's too soon to measure again, I think.

About the goal thread, I don't think I could come up with 20! That's a lot! Really my goals are to continue doing well on McDougall and move more into the path of Intuitive Eating. I hope to find a job in 2020 too, but I only have so much control over that, so I am not going to make it a specific goal.

It's possible I will reach my previously set goal weight of 160 by the end of the year (53 more pounds to go) but if I don't make it, it will be okay. As I've read more of the Intuitive Eating book, I am becoming more desensitized to numerical weight goals, and just being comfortable with wearing a size 14.

I don't think I am going to reach my one-year goal I set on the thread here on this group for August - August. I am 213 now and had set a goal for 175. I don't think I can lose that much that fast, especially since it gets harder the lower your weight goes. We'll see how long it takes to break this plateau!

Afternoon everyone - praying that you are all having a great Sunday.

I started my day off with not waking up early enough to take my IBS meds so am working through the day with out it. I am surprised that I am not having the discomfort I usually do when I don't take the meds - only thing I can think of is that because I have not had sugar or flour that a lot of the discomfort from this disease is lessened. Still need the meds though but can see that I might be able to get a smaller dose -

Hear a good Sermon at Church - seems every week they are getting better and better = the Lord is really speaking to me a lot lately which is so encouraging.

Today at lunch I went 'a bit' of my food plan - not good but another lesson learned. Hubby wanted to go out for lunch and that usually is not a problem as all the places we would go for breakfast or lunch will give me food according to my food plan. So today at lunch I had an omelet - that was not the problem - it contained 2 eggs, green peppers, green onions and cheddar cheese but I ordered an order of whole wheat toast. Hubby looked at me strangely - told him that after I ate the omelet that I would think about the toast and more than likely I would give it to our daughter - I didn't I ate it. Ten minutes later he asked how I was feeling - I asked him why did he ask and he said 'your eyes are telling me something is wrong.' Yup - I was getting achy and stomach was hurting a little. So hubby then said '2020 is a few days away - you are going to finish out the year without bread and YOU WILL not have any for all of 2020 as I don't like what your eyes are telling me - I believe in you I know you can do it and I am excited for how good you will feel this time next year'

How I love that man - he gets it - he knows what is best for me and is willing to help keep me on track. Yes 2020 is going to be a great year.

Today I was reading a blog (forget how wrote it) and they shared 20 goals for 2020 = got me to thinking about that - what would my 20 goals be for 2020. I am thinking of putting up a new thread with the name 20 goals for 2020 = anyone up to using it if I do?

Well hubby just got up from his nap, daughter has just left to go to respite till Tuesday - and I think I might stretch out and have a short power nap.

Jenny and Laura - so nice to hear from both of you - Laura sorry to hear you have had trouble with IBS - I can relate as I know that disease - Jenny am happy that you are making progress.

Dreama = nice that you have your children with you -would be nice if they could get the hours for your son more regulated - but as he has a job need to be thankful for that I guess.

You can have the snow - we have some fall during the night but it is now 3:20 pm and it has all melted - but the other side of the city (upper levels) has enough that families are building snowmen - they can keep it but I am sure we will get some before the season is over with.

Renee = thank you my friend for being such a great encourager = means a lot to me. I am sure you are going to have a great year - I see you reaching your goal in 2020 = exciting right. Ok I know you asked me a question - will have to go back and re read it and then come and add the answer to this post.

Be blessed everyone - look forward to hearing from the rest of you

UPDATE:
Renee - about the recliner - I do need a new one but we are going to hold off for a bit to see how it goes with me releasing some weight - there is a possibility that after another 30 - 50 pounds a might be able to sleep in a bed again which would be nice - but still need a new recliner for the living room - but we need to get our ensuite (toiled area) repaired first and not sure how much it is going to cost - hopefully it will be done in the next 2 weeks. As for the program I am going to look at changing the Spark Program to the Consistancy and Motivational Program - thought I would change it over January 1.

How about the rest of you - any changes in your program - which one here at Sparkpeople are you doing?

Good morning!! My son has the rest of the week off from work after today - which I'm extremely happy about. They just won't put him on one schedule and keep it there. Today they have him to work at 7:00 a.m. The other day they had him there at 11:45.

We had quite a bit of snow yesterday and as I never get to stay home all day anymore, I got stuck twice. :( Dropped it in low and had to gun my way out. Testing my driving skills for sure.

Well, I'd better start getting us ready to head out. Have a great day. Back in a while.

Hi all;
I gained because of the flu and stomach is still iffy. I have been exercising but not like before though. Hope I can kick this thing soon.

Had a nice lunch out with my brother and sister--in-law today. I had tilapia with grilled shrimp, asparagus, rice pilaf and a side salad and none of it stayed in me.

Renee I bought Jenny one gift which she had requested before.

Marilyn I would not be able to afford to do something like that. I got some extra Christmas money from my brother and sister-in-law and my one sister to spend for both of us. I might get my hair cut with some of it. But I also need slacks and another PJ bottom or set too.

Hi everyone my mom and I went out to eat today and I had higher calorie meal at Perkins because my breakfast went through me meaning I had diarrhea today. My uncle and aunt from Green Bay are the ones who treated us today. I am going back down in weight once again I am at 438 lbs however I am still looking for more weight release yet. Since I need to be down 8.5 lbs a month for the 45 lbs to happen. I am already at 8 lbs right now. So I am pretty close to it however as I told my mom no one as big as me can technically lose a half pound. I usually release 1-3 lbs on average.

Marilyn, I'm super excited for you that you decided to do the boot camp! I checked out Susan's website a couple of months ago and saw it was an option. It seems expensive at first glance, but you get so much out of it, it is very worth it. And seeing as this is your lifestyle change, it's definitely a good experience to do it. Like you started the Sparkpeople 28 Day program again before BLE. You were getting a lot out of it just going from the beginning again.

I hope you do lose a good amount! Good way to start off the new decade.

I am not sure if I mentioned it here or not (and I'm too lazy to scroll back! lol!) but I am reading a book called Intuitive Eating that is really good. It's not a diet, but a way of eating (whatever program or way you choose) that teaches you to eat based on your natural hunger and fullness signals. There are ten principles of intuitive eating, including leaving behind the diet mentality, honoring your hunger, making peace with food, and honoring your health. I am only on the second principle reading in the book, but I joined a Spark team about IE as well as their official forums.

I was already doing some things that fit into leaving behind the diet mentality - like I no longer use the Spark nutrition tracker or count calories, and I eat when I'm hungry rather than depriving myself - I didn't even know intuitive eating was a "thing," I just called what I was doing as part of McDougall that, and when I googled it all this stuff came up! It is really validating to know I am on the right track, and can learn from the IE book as a complement to McDougall.

I'm feeling really good going into 2020. I have three months of McDougalling done and have settled in to the right way of physical eating for me. I feel comfortable with it and now have the answer to my emotional side of eating as well.

Marilyn, are you still going to get the special recliner, or have you decided to wait to see if your accelerated weight loss takes care of the need for it? Are you managing to sleep better yet?

Good morning everyone - can you believe that we are coming to the end of a decade - gosh it has gone by so fast.

Am planning to have the next decade a lot healthier then the one we are completing in the next few days. What about you?

I am back on track and feeling better because of that - I realize now more then every how much sugar and flour has damaged my brain and my way of thinking. So am glad that I have given it up.

The program I am doing offers a 10 week boot camp. With the boot camp you get weekly videos to use for the week - all very helpful ones. I wasn't going to do the boot camp as I have been doing well just from reading the book and following the plan. But during Christmas I thought it over and decided this would be a gift to myself especially for the times when I might falter. So I signed up for it. The 'modules' (or videos) for week 1 were great really helped with motivation. They were broken down into different parts such as what the plan looks like, why we need to measure our food, why we eat only 3 meals with no snacks and a great video on what sugar and flour actually does to the mind which in turn affects the whole body. It really helped listening to them. Day 1 was on Thursday December 26 so I will start week 2 on January 2 and will get my next set of videos at that time.

I will still be using Tuesday as my weigh in date though this coming Tuesday we will not be officially weighed in so will just need to record my weight from my scale. But for the boot camp the weigh in will be Thursdays - a little confusing I guess but I am going to keep track of how well I do on the boot camp as I have been told that in the 10 weeks I should be losing at least 10 pounds and it could be up to 20 pounds or more. I am really looking forward to having a great 2020 with regards to getting my health under control.

This program suggests going to the doctor right when you join and have the doctor monitor the progress especially if you take meds as the weight loss will affect the meds - they will have to be reviewed and lowered. I am seeing a difference already in my diabetes number - have a feeling that in February when I get my blood work done that if I am not taken off the meds for diabetes that it will be lowered. That gets me really excited.

In the New Year I will start up the thread re Weekly Goals - gave it a bit of a break due to the Christmas season but I am sure many of us will want to start making these - goals that we can work on for a week - don't necessarily need to be weight loss goals - any goal of what you want to accomplish during a given week.

We had a green Christmas this year - our part of the city has no snow though the mountains around us do. Am pleased as it meant no shoveling and hubby was very happy about that - but if the weather is like it has been in the last 14 years we will get a dump in January - but that will be ok as it usually is all melted by February so having snow for 2 - 3 weeks is ok with me.

So we have 17 members for this group now - how about we all come and say hi before the year ends - please take a few minutes to post here on this thread - am really looking forward to everyone coming and participating - so if you have just joined or been with the group for some time and have not posted in sometime please take the time to do so now - just let us know that you are interested in the group - I know for some it is difficult to post but please take that step of faith and reach out to us - we really want to hear from everyone.

There will be a new Chat Room thread starting in January - so let's finish up the year on this one with lots of messages from everyone.

It's really Saturday today. Christmas in the middle of the week always causes the what day is it feeling.

Christmas eve I cooked at 28lb turkey with all the trimmings. We had 3 long time friends in, plus our 3 kiddos. I'm happy to say that I while I ate more then I should have I didn't completely over eat. Okay I know that I overate but I gave myself permission to on Christmas eve and Christmas day.

Christmas morning hubby and I made brunch for our kids and had a very relaxing day. Our youngest had lots of presents to open our 2 older kids got more cash from us to buy clothing. Hubby and I stopped exchanging gifts a long time ago, for us just watching the kids and spending a relaxing day with them is the best. We spoke with his aunt and my parents. As they are across the country it is impossible to spend the holidays together. My cousin who live in Grand Prairie about 5 hours away was unable to come down this year as he had to work and my other cousin's daughter who now lives about an hour away worked the holiday. So no extra family. Hubby and I have only had 1 Christmas in the last 23 with my parents and 1 with my sister. We have made an extended family here in the west, our kids have a few uncles and aunts that are really long time friends.

Boxing day was all about hockey. The World Juniors Tournament started. We watched 4 games. Switzerland beat Kazakhstan 5-3, the Czech Republic beat Russia 4-3, Sweden beat Finland 3-2 and finally Canada beat the US 6-4. It was a lot of hockey and I didn't get my step count in at all.

Yesterday I managed to get some work done. I got all my expense reports in and made my Nuts and Bolts. .

Tonight we are haring a couple in for drinks and to play some pool.

Tomorrow night is another party, my hubby's pool team is coming in for drinks, pool and general laughs. I have to get some treats made for us.

I love the holidays. We celebrate until Jan 6.

Have a great Day

Marilyn: I'm so happy you have found a program that is working for you!

We've had a very mild week leading up to Christmas, but now it's snowing again. Exercise, though! I've not really exercised since my son has been here. I've been too swamped. I don't know if I've said this, but it is like taking care of a small child - lots of extra work.

It's going to be a slow week - to an extent. I'm off on Wednesday. I got most of the bank scrubbed last week, but have two more sections to go. I'm hoping I can get those tomorrow.

Well, I've another cup of coffee to drink then I must get out and clear my car. I don't know what city ordinance says about shoveling snow. It's still coming down. I think I'll wind up shoveling a couple of times. I need to look up how long it's expected AND what city ordinance says about it.

Have a beautiful, blessed day!

Re the post I mentioned - I wrote up a post on Dec 26 and today when I came to the group it showed a green box that had in the middle 'edit' - so I clicked on the edit and there was the post -possibly I never clicked on post message and that was what I was getting the edit. But I deleted it just to be safe.

Later I will try doing the post again and see what happens - I was mentioning about the program I am doing and the support I am getting and just thought that that might be out of the guidelines but not sure how they would take the time to read all posts.

At any rate I am here and will update with what I was thinking about yesterday a little later.

Thanks ladies for your encouragement - it really means a lot to me.

Who would have edited your post? That is completely odd! You've never said anything offensive before, and you don't detail your program any more than anyone else. There are now two Bright Line groups as well as groups for other plans, so why would they be picking on a post within a very small team?

If you ever feel like talking without being edited, please feel free to Spark Mail me.

Hope you are all having a great day - getting ready for the new year to start.

Am doing well with my plan. Am not sure what to share here with respect to it as my last post was 'edited' for me to delete what I wrote re the program.

So just know I am working my plan and the weight is coming off.

Hopefully everyone will take time to come and share - am thinking because it is Christmas that is why we are quiet - hopefully it is not quiet due to what has been previously shared.

Have a good day everyone

Hi everyone, Today seems like Monday to me! We had a nice Christmas. We went to candlelight service at 4:30. Grandson from the City arrived in time for that. Afterwards, we went to our daughter's for a meal and to open gifts. We got to facetime with the other half of our family who are just too far to come at Christmas. Christmas Day we all stayed home and relaxed and enjoyed the quiet day. No special meal. Daughter did have to go in to work in the evening for a short time. (a nurse). Renee, we do not exchange gifts either anymore. If we need something during the year we work it out then to get what we need or want.

Our weather has been really mild for this time of year and for Christmas traveling. However, a big storm is predicted for Sat. Went to the grocery store and got some things in case we do not get out Saturday or Sunday.

My scale went up this morning when I weighed which I expected. I only eat ham at Christmas and probably should not then. But back on track with everything and will see what the scale does this week. No more ham for sure. I did have 2 of the cookies I baked. But that satisfied me.

Renee, that fresh fruit sounds wonderful! I am sure your scale will catch up soon. You are doing great!

Time for me to call it a day. Have a restful night everyone.

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas! It was just a quiet day for Chris and me. We don't have kids and we're two and a half hours from my mom and sister so we didn't travel. My husband's dad lives in Australia.

We don't exchange gifts because we have a budgeted amount we can spend on treats during each month, and we just do that. That way you get what you want! It takes all the surprise out of it when the money comes out of the same account anyway.

I went to my volunteer job today and enjoyed some wonderful fresh pineapple and cantaloupe. They had their bi-weekly team meeting, which are always catered. I rarely find anything to eat (I bring my own food to make sure I have something). Today they had fresh fruit and fresh veggie platters, YAY!

They were barely touched, though the sandwiches, wraps, and cookies all mostly disappeared. I wish I could go back tomorrow and have some more of that fruit! I can't imagine so many people who were not enjoying the good stuff!

I had that three pound weight gain five days ago and don't feel like I've lost it again yet. I tracked a few days of food and I am in my target nutrition ranges, so maybe I'm just entering a plateau. I hope not! But it's good to know I am not doing anything wrong. I guess I am about due for a plateau after losing 55 pounds since March. (I lost the rest of my weight two years ago and maintained it that long before starting to lose again). But as of now, I have only lost one pound in December. It was four as of December 10 but I gained three back.

Oh well, if I just keep doing the right thing the scale will catch up again. I don't weigh again until December 30 so we'll see what happens.

Hi all;
Jenny and I are recovered from having the flu over the weekend and I bough new batteries for the scale so it weighs me better. I weigh tomorrow; hope I do not gain because of 2 days of little to eat. It is warmer here this week in the 30's.; We are having ham, sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts tomorrow. Jenny has cut out most fruits from her diet already and cold cereals and most of the time does not eat hot cereal either. I have a lot of stuff I will have to eat myself. Hate to throw away oatmeal or rice.

Good morning!! I hope everyone is doing well and are ready for Christmas tomorrow. Not a lot going on today. I tried to get back to exercising yesterday but I was so late getting home from my jobs that it did not work. Today I only have the bank and taking my son to work. Of course, there is this pile of dishes that I didn't touch yesterday. That has to get done today. I've got to see if I can't get my son's lunch box located. :( It seems like something disappears every day from his stuff. It gets re-found, but goodness!!

Well, I'm going to finish my coffee then start waking my son up. Have a great day!

Hi Renee and Marilyn and everyone sorry I have absent for so long I have not been feeling well of late. I will eventually give you guys a rundown of what I eat sometime soon. Recently I gained a bunch of water weight and then got the flu and ended up losing all the extra weight I had gained. I am glad for that and also seeing another gi specialist for my ibs at this time and she put me xifaxan which is an antibiotic for ibs. It regulates the stomach somehow.

Marilyn, I get that ALL the time - well don't you eat chicken? What about pizza? No cheese? They hear the word vegan and freak out on me. I tend to say I am "plant based" instead because it is somehow less threatening to people. Really, McDougall is starch based, but people have become so terrified of carbs that they TOTALLY can't relate to my way of eating. I don't know why what I eat is such a big deal, it's not like I am "recruiting" anyone! emoticon

I haven't tried cheese-less pizza but I might at some point. There are brands made with vegan cheese but that is full of oil. I want one baked with sauce and veggies. Anyone who makes pizza can make that. There would probably be some oil in the crust though. Maybe I'll make a pita one at home. Hmmm...

Jenny, I too would like to know how you are doing with your new food plan. Hopefully it's going well!

Morning - hope you are all dealing with the cold / snow and so close to Christmas day with ease - not stressing over it.

Laura = how are you doing - miss hearing from you

Jenny = praying that you are not struggling with your new way of eating - please come and share how you are doing - would love to hear what you are able to eat in a day - we are here for you so do come as often as possible -

Jo and Renee = thanks for the message you have just posted = love hearing from both of you.

Nothing really new here - just looking forward to getting through this week and New Years though that day is not as bad as Christmas with respect to food. Am staying on my food plan and am praying that on December 31 I will have a nice number to report for the end of the year. And as I said I am looking forward to the new year to move forward with not just the food I am eating but starting up some more movement. That is the next step in my program that I want to incorporate - more movement - resistant bands and the treadmill.

Funny how when you mention to some what you are doing their first reaction is 'when are you going to have bread again' = like really? Couldn't believe that one of my sisters asked that - she admits she has some weight to lose - maybe 25 - 30 pounds but changing her lifestyle is just there at this time - she socializes a lot and there is always a lot of food and wine around - so though she wants to tone up and lose some she isn't ready to make the change. Am praying that she will see the changes I have made and how it is working and can be done for the long road that she might improve her health a little.

It is now 11 am and due to those 2 shortbread cookies yesterday I am detoxing today - yes that small amount of sugar really does a number on a person - so am needing to stop now and sit back with my eyes closed to let the detox do its thing - 15 minutes makes all the difference.

Scripture verse for today

Psalms 49:16-17
Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases. For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.

Look forward to hearing from all of you over Christmas

i had the same experience with onion rings before I started McDougall! They seem to sound so good, but once you start eating clean you can't handle the grease!

Same with the cookie - it wasn't that long ago that I accidentally had oil in the little blondie from Whole Foods. I won't make that choice again, and nor will you, Marilyn. It was a learning experience. We all have those from time to time.

I have a wicked craving for dried apples. Chris bought some crispy chip-like ones yesterday when we went to Food Lion, but I want the soft ones. I did a google search yesterday and saw that Target sells them. I am not willing to brave Target on Christmas week emoticon , but maybe after. The crispy ones are good but they're not the craving ones.

I think my weight is starting to go down again after doing that overeating for a few days. I will stay true to my new plan and wait until December 30 to weigh in again, but I feel better. My clothes are fitting better again, which is a huge relief. I don't have anything to wear above this size - gave it all away! - so there is no room for a big regain. I've worked way too hard to let it go back up anyway. I recognized the connection about having some fear about going under 200, now I can approach it with a lot of self-care and reassurance. I wasn't prepared before but I am now.

I get e-mails from Kohls since I am a cardholder. They have been open 24 hours since last Friday, up until Christmas Eve. I am purposely NOT going to shop there because I don't support that. There is no need to go to Kohls at 3 a.m. Stores need to get a grip and not abuse their staff.

That's all I can think of for now . Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi everyone, I am sorry I have not posted for a few days. I have been in the kitchen all day every day it seems. I do the baking for our Christmas. Something I enjoy. Everything goes in the freezer until our Christmas meal together. Oldest grandson will be with us for a short time. Have cookies, sandwich buns in the freezer. I did not have any cookies but did have a sandwich bun for my lunch. Will pretty much finish up tomorrow.

Renee, you do not have to apologize for anything. You were posting from the heart and it was a great post! We are all here to share and support. You are doing just great and you are a help to me with what you share. I read a book about intuitive eating by Evenly Tribole a long time ago. Very interesting and that is being talked about again quite abit.

Marilyn, so glad you all are over that flu stuff. Having the cookie today was really inforcing for you that you are on the right path with your eating plan. I had a learning experience last evening. We went to Sat. night Church and then stopped for a hamburger. Usually I just get the plain hamburger. Well, last night I decided to get the frings which is a combo of fries and onion rings. I could have had 12 fries with my hamburger but chose the other. My stomach told me never again!! You are doing great with your plan and Bless that hubby of yours for his wonderful support.

Dreama, you are in my prayers too. Thanks for sharing what all is going on for you.

Hope this finds everyone that comes by to read or post doing well in these busy days. I am looking forward to our candlelight Christmas Eve service.

Rest well tonight everyone.

Jo

Afternoon everyone - well only 3 more sleeps till Christmas day - I can hear my children and grandchildren when they were little saying just that - how times fly by

Dreama = praying for you - enjoy your time with your children especially that special son of yours.

Renee = you don't have to apologize for anything - that is why we are here - come and unload when you have to. We are here to support you in any way we can.

Today was a good day / a day of learning. Today I ate a shortbread cookie - first time I have sugar in 48 days - just had one - and boy am I suffering from it. Do not like how I am feeling at all. The members of a very large group for my way of eating have shared that after not having sugar that you get feeling really sick - and many have a hard time getting back on track. Thankfully I don't think that is going to be a problem for me - I don't like how I am feeling - upset stomach, ache joints - so am right back on track = supper will be in about 30 minutes and will be according to plan.

So I am moving forward - month 2 / week 6 / day 48 is where I am at today - and looking forward to many more days eating healthy.

I noticed I haven't done a blog in some time - am planning on putting one up tonight should you be interested in following it - think it will be just a short one though.

I am assuming it is really quiet in here due to Christmas being so close - am praying that everyone will be back to participating as before when Christmas is over - missing hearing from everyone.

Scripture verse for today is
Psalm 62:8 which says
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.

Dreama, you will be in my prayers!

I want to apologize for posting such heavy stuff on this thread yesterday. I should have confined it to a blog! I was just feeling so bad in the last couple of days. It's getting better, praise the Lord.

I'm sorry. I've been neglectful. I have my second son for the next two weeks. I'm keeping him until the first Saturday in January. Today has been nuts. Getting my son ready to head out to the ARK for the day and work. Then taking my daughter to work and off shopping. Home to put the food up then back out the door to pick up dear daughter. Home to eat really fast then off to the doctor for dear daughter. Now I'm home and laundry is going.

Tomorrow I'm planning on doing some deep cleaning at the bank. I figure I can get about five hours' work in between dropping off kids to work and picking them up. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get done and may wind up going back after picking up the son at 5:00. But I'll have to come home and start dinner as well. So, maybe 4:30 is going to be the latest at the bank.

Having my son here has been extra work and my daughter is having a really bad bout of depression. I realized today that I was not fueling myself for the battle. i.e. reading the Word of God and praying as I should, so mama is also low on fuel for the 'battle'. Prayers are much appreciated.

I think that's it. I need to get up and start some rice in a bit. Beef and Broccoli tonight. Tomorrow is my official 'weigh in'. 21 Day as of yesterday on the 21 Day fix and only lost 1.6 pounds. Not good!!

Have a great day and please do be praying for me. I need all the prayers I can get right now.

Renee: I just read this message on the other thread and responded to it - please know that I have been holding you up in prayers for a long time - and have felt that you were going through a difficult patch at this time. Your are strong though you might feel weak at this point - you will come through this so much strong - keep faithful to the way you are eating - you will hit 199 and will be able to rejoice at it - you are at a point that many of us haven't reached yet - dealing with all the 'fears' of what that means beings back into the 100's = my mind when I think of that is 'oh what am I going to do about all the lose skin, will I regret losing the weight - having excess skin while heavy that needs special care to then losing the weight and having lose skin that needs special care - but we have to work through all of that - and knowing that you are a believer is going to help you get through this.

You have helped / encouraged a lot of people = and it is an honor to know you - am going to do what I can to help you carry this burden - you are not alone, we will do this together.

Morning everyone - messages are slowing down a little here and I am assuming it is because it is only 5 days till Christmas and that the flu is hitting many of us pretty hard. Thinking of all of you, praying that you are all healthy and not suffering with the flu, not to flustered re the busyness of this time of year.

Hope you are all able to follow your food plan during this pre Christmas week - it can be difficult I am sure but we need to remember that our health is really important so we need to eat to be healthy and then we can enjoy the season so much better.

I am now working through Month 2 / Week 6 / Day 46 of no sugar and no flour. And today marks 90 days having this new account set up - gosh 3 months already. And as I have said many times I am feeling so much better now that the sugar and flour is out of my body - and I can honestly say that I have no intention to eating it again because when I think of how good I feel now and how sick I was feeling before - well I much rather would have this current feeling. But we need to be willing to make the changes - we can't really think of this as a diet where we will do it for a given amount of time and then go back to our old ways - our old ways did not improve our health but rather hampered them. So hang on everyone, remember the reason why you want / need to release the weight and then forward even with Christmas is right around the corner.

Wonder who will post a message next? Renee, Laura, Jenny, Jo, Madonna, Dreama = would be nice to hear from all of you.

This was a really long and vulnerable post about struggling with overeating and body image as a childhood sexual abuse survivor. It was too heavy for a chat thread, should have been a personal blog, and I don't want to drag down the mood, so I am removing it the next day. Sorry everyone!

Afternoon everyone - are you having a good Thursday - sure hope so.

It is cold where I live - but no snow which is sort of nice - I would much rather have it a bit cold and not snow as driving in the snow and shovelling are not my thing - but neither is the cold. But I love where we live.

@ONEAGLESWINGS19 - Jenny how are you doing - praying that you are holding up and sticking with your food plan - the more you stick with it the 'easier' it will be when you have your surgery. Come and let us know how you are doing - would love to hear what kind of meals you are eating in a day.

@POETLKNG2LOSE - thinking of you the last few days also. Hope you are doing well to - with both you and Jenny working on releasing some weight and both of you being believers in Christ Jesus - well that much be a great comfort to both of you - you have a built in support system which is good.

We are all doing so much better after the flu the beginning of this week - though my throat is feeling a bit strange - not sure what is happening so playing it by ear. Yesterday was our 36th wedding anniversary and we stayed home as we just didn't feel up to going out.

But this morning - around 10 am - hubby asked if I was feeling like going out to celebrate our anniversary today for lunch. He was really wanting some lasagna - so looked up the menu for Boston Pizza and discovered that they serve grilled chicken breasts and of course different salads. So off we went for our 'sort of date' - sort of as we had our daughter with us.

At any rate I was able to stay on plan - I had 4 oz of grilled chicken, a Caesar salad and I am allowed potatoes - they only had French fries - so I asked if they could make some up for me but that I only wanted 14 - 20 of them - not a whole order - waitress looked at me a bit strange but I explained that all that I eat has to be measured out and boiled potatoes would be better but the fries would be ok if only just a few. So they gladly made up my meal for me - while hubby ate his lasagna and our daughter had a small pizza. I must say I had just enough and with the fries I was able to count that as my grain plus because they were fried that was my 'fat' for the day - so all is well. Hubby was so happy that I could have something there to eat that did not make me go off plan. He is being such a great help.

I think I shared how on Monday how we weren't up to cooking but that he needed to go to the store for milk. Mentioned that I knew I needed to get some food in me due to being a diabetic and said to him he could stop and A&W and give me a hamburger. When he returned home - no hamburger from A&W but he bought a package of frozen hamburger patties, and with it gave me 6 oz of tomatoes and a little mustard on the side for the hamburger. I looked at him a bit strange and he said 'I will not make you anything or allow you to have anything that has flour on as you have done so well with out it I am not going to let you slip up and have to start over. He is such a sweetheart. And last week I was thinking how nice it would be to make up the lemon pie filling and put it into 3 bowls so we could each have some - he looked at it and said 'sorry can't do that as it has sugar - you need to be more successful before even thinking to have any of this so please get it out of your head that you need it - that sugar devil is filling your mind with evil thoughts - he is no longer allowed to be around you' and off he went to the computer room. Oh how I love this man as he is standing firm this time around making sure I don't brake my bright line goals which are (1) 3 meals a day (2) no snacks (3) no sugar or flour (4) measure all food = he keeps telling me the last week how proud he is of me that I am not giving up and that he notices now how much different I am looking with the 22 pounds off - so can you only imagine what he will be like when I have lost 50 - 75 and 100 pounds. Another 10 pounds and I will be less than I was when we married 36 years ago - and today he said he is looking forward to that as he is excited to see me 'smaller' - and every day now he is telling me how my 'apron/stomach' is shrinking. So though I really don't see the progress but I do feel it I am feeling so much better.

Am looking forward to the new year as that is when there will be a lot of sales on and we have decided that every month we will go clothes shopping for all of us and each of us will get one maybe 2 new outfits - could be anything from shoes, sweater, jammies - whatever but something new - and by January I know I will be needing to get some new pants. Have lost enough around the waist for the next size down but my 'apron' is still holding the pants up so I am thinking that by the end of January they might start getting loose enough to go one size smaller. Not going to buy many at the next size down but a couple of pants and a couple of shirts to help with the transition as I have the feeling that around March I will be needing to do it again. Am really looking forward to when I am closer to my goal weight where it stabilizes and I get to get literally a new wardrobe.

I have started a nice collection of recipes that I am going to be trying out in January. As I try them I will see about posting them on our recipe thread.

Well I am going to sign off now - want to work a little on a baby blanket before it is time for supper - we interchanges our lunch and dinner for today so for dinner we are having a lighter meal - much easier that way for the digestion and sleeping.

@RETIREESMITH - just thinking of you and wondering how you are doing - havent heard from you in so long - hope you are doing ok

Please remember that though this is a time of year where we are surround with so much food - lots of what my program refers to as NMF (not my food) - that we don't really need to partake in it - all we really need is just enough to give proper nutrition - and family and friends to share and visit with - so lets remember to take time to by pass the food we really don't need (all those snacks that we think we really love but once you get past the craving stage you realise that you don't really like them that much) and just enjoy the companionship of our family and friends.

Looking forward to reading all your messages -

Good morning! I went to the doctor's yesterday. That visit went well. She is happy with my blood pressure. She is happy with my weight. My UA was clear - no kidney damage. She put me back on Vitamin D. I'd forgotten I was taking it.

Well, not a lot of time this morning! I've got to get myself ready and my son ready.

Yesterday was my second son's birthday. He just turned 24. I ate a small slice of cheesecake and a bit of coconut milk ice cream. That's probably all the treats I'm going to have.

Have a great day!

Renee that is what i need to be regular too! Metamucil does not always work. Might see if I can buy some and put it in the coffee grinder.

Good morning,

I ma now the proud owner of 2 new snow tires for my ancient van. The tire that went flat on my daughter was toast as we suspected.

I'm happy with myself this week. Today is my weigh in day and while I didn't lose any weight I didn't gain any either. I really want to see the 170s before the new year. That's only 1 pound away...

Laura, I have a kitchen aid food processor that attaches to my mixer now. It's incredible, It came with a grinder that is awesome for making things into powder

Have a great Day

Marilyn, I hope you are all better soon! Congratulations on reaching the next pound-range down! I JUST squeaked in at 209.9 when I weighed in on the 10th. I rounded up to 210 of course for my ticker (I only register at the pound or half pound) but it still counts for being in the lowest 200s!

Also so happy you are getting compliments and that they make you happy! I am still getting used to having people pay attention to my weight loss. I have not self-sabotaged this time, I am learning to accept the recognition and take compliments without running scared and gaining weight back. It's a process and part of healing my remnants of my eating disorder.

Yesterday out of curiosity I googled "intuitive eating," since that is what I am doing now. I didn't realize it is a thing, but there are several books about it and an official website. There is also a Spark team so I joined it, and I applied for membership on the official forum.

I will order the book when I get my next "treat" money in January. Chris and I pre-budget an amount we can each spend on "treats" each month and I've already spent my December allotment. It's only $7.99 so I can easily afford it next month. It will come out in an updated edition next June but I don't want to wait that long and I can do without the new sections on weight stigma and weaning of babies.

Things are really coming together for me fixing my "head issues" around food, like you were talking about, Marilyn. First McDougall taught me how to eat, then Coach Dean gave me permission to raise my calories, and now intuitive eating. I feel really good about where I am in my relationship with food.

Morning everyone - hope you are all having a wonderful Tuesday.

As you might know I have had the flu - came on suddenly on Sunday and it was horrible. Intense bathroom time. Then last night (as I was recovering) hubby decided to come down with it and now this morning my sweet daughter has it. Only good thing is we are all getting over it at the same time. But don't like it at all - have all the diffusers going to get the house not smell like a sick house.

Hubby though not feeling all to peppy drove me to my TOPS meeting this morning so I could get officially weighed. Today after the weighin they were having their annual Christmas meal together - I was to bring vegetables - which I left along with a present for the exchange. Then just got weighed and came home - good thing as don't think hubby would have been up to taken care of daughter puking so much - not that I can but we manage.

So weigh in for me - lost 2.4 pounds this week - am down to 249.6 so am into a new '10' digit number and haven't been in this frame for 35 years or so, so you can imagine how happy I am about it. Hubby just made me laugh - tomorrow we celebrate 36 years of marriage and had plans for our yearly outing for supper - but he looked at me from the couch and said 'sweetheart, I love you but can I take you out to dinner after Christmas as we are all just to sick right now.' What a sweet man to think about me.

I have now made it to Week 6, day 43 of realizing weight - I have never had such success before and it feels so good to consistently lose - and with not much effort really. I now see that it is a mind thing - we lose when we are really ready and committed - until then we are just interested in losing but not ready to make any changes. When I started going no sugar, no flour the thought that came to mind was 'oh this is going to be hard but I will give it a try.' But guess what it is not hard. I get lots of food to eat, all food that is good for my body and I don't have to count calories just eat on plan. For instance my plan says to have 1 protein at lunch. So if I was to have 'meat' that would be 4 oz, it if was to be eggs it would be 2, if it was to be cheese, it would be 2 oz and so on. So all I have to know is what the different food servings equal. If you look at the thread showing the information on the plan I am using you will see what breakfast, lunch, supper looks like - and I can tell you it is a lot of food. I am now at the point of being ready to experiment with different vegetables and making a few different suppers. We are not ones that change things up a lot - we like our few favorite things but am ready to give some things a try - such as different squash, making a few different vegetable dishes. I have a vegetable 'stuffing' that I am going to make for Christmas dinner but will also make the bread stuffing for hubby. But the vegetable 'stuffing' looks so interesting I am sure we will have a more than once.

On Sunday at church I had a nice complaint from one of the men. Bill is married to the secretary and we know them pretty well - he came up to me on Sunday and said 'I hope this doesn't offend you but I can really see that you have lost weight and I am so proud of you.' Brought tears to my eyes as sometimes it seems we go so long before anyone notices. So it will be interesting to see in the months to come how many will comment or if many of them will just not say anything - not sure which way it will go - but it is nice to hear from people saying that they are noticing I have made a change.

I have read all the messages over the past few days - sorry but still not feeling 100% but know that I have read them and will come back later and comment - in the meantime, take care, even though it is the time of year when everyone tends to overeat think of your health and try to do your best to say on a good eating plan even at this time of the year.

My Scripture verse for today is
Psalm 63:1-5
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because of your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.

Wow, Laura, maybe I told you the wrong thing about the food processor. Amaranth seeds are smaller than chia, but pretty close. If Kira's machine will grind chia, maybe it could do amaranth.

I am now eating a bowl of amaranth every afternoon, and, not to be gross, have a bowel movement every day instead of every two or three like before. I absolutely love this stuff. I never got such good results from Metamucil and Citrucel! I do add a small amount of sugar to it, but less than I would put in my tea.

Kira, hope you enjoyed your day off!

I have been having some big breakthroughs in my journey to heal my dysfunctional relationship with food. I am now eating in my maintenance calorie range for my goal weight, and I naturally know how to eat there without having to use the nutrition tracker constantly. I love intuitive eating, it doesn't have a set of rules like tracking does. I tracked for a couple of days when raising my calorie levels, but I was right on target without trying, so now I am flying solo.

Tracking worked for me for the past nine months, but I was feeling really food-obsessed and ready to leave it behind. I am learning that I like to eat four meals a day instead of three - and that the first two are larger than the second two smaller ones. I am learning to read my body's cues as to what it wants, and eat that way. I am letting myself eat fruit again. And most importantly, I have learned that when I don't count things so much and I let myself eat without rules, I no longer feel like I might be deprived later so I better eat a lot NOW. It's really made a profound difference in my temptations to binge. When I give myself permission to eat what I need, I no longer feel a lack of anything or a punishment. I am at peace with food now.

Good morning teammates

I'm taking a day off work today... I'm so happy it's been at least 30 days since I last had a whole day off.

We have company coming in today to watch a hockey game with us. My hubby's friend is a a Toronto fan and they are playing the Oiler's tonight. Should be a good game with lots of laughs and teasing. I'm making my homemade pizza so for me it will be a high caloric day but as I've had a really good week and have managed to not snack during the day.

We had to go and rescue my daughter yesterday; she got a flat tire on the way home from school. Poor kid didn't know what happened, but she called us and got the vehicle off the road in a safe place. I had to drive home as we don't have a spare for it, so we put an all season on with the other winters. Hubby will get the tire fixed today but it may be toast and we may be buying 2 tires. Is it ever weird to drive on bad icy roads with 1 all season and 1 winter...

Laura as to whether your food processor would help with grains, it depends on the processor you have. My old Braun one that is 21 years old, gift from my aunts at the birth of my son so I could make his baby food, it will not. My new kitchen aid attachment, however, will make anything powder including chia seeds.

Have a great Day

Good morning! I got an updated schedule from the ARK for my Nate and he is off tomorrow. That makes me happy. I'll be picking him up from work before I take my daughter to work.

I did not lose any weight this past week. In fact, I gained point four pound. I know these last few days I've not exercised. Pulled my back and last night did something to my ankle. Couldn't put any pressure on it. I'm right as rain right now, but as soon as I finish this cup of coffee I've got to shovel the walk.

Outside of that, I don't have a lot going on. I just have to get laundry done.

Have a great day!

Laura, my honest answer to your question is that I have never owned a food processor, so I am not exactly sure what they are capable of doing. Sorry! I just don't know any better. I wouldn't think you could cut the grains though, they are super tiny. There's not really much that can be cut up. Like you can grind flax and sesame seeds, but I don't even think you could grind amaranth in a coffee grinder. But if you can't do chia, you can't do amaranth either, unfortunately. You were especially who I had in mind when I mentioned diverticulitis. With your IBS struggles, I wouldn't chance it.

I have raging PMS today and want to eat everything in sight. I did my own version of comfort food for dinner - whole wheat rotini with a cup of frozen cherries for dessert. I won't deviate from my program, and am not really craving anything I am not supposed to have, but I can't stop wanting to eat! AARGH! And I am bloated and retaining water. I went four years without a period after an endometrial ablation surgery and then I started getting them again earlier this year. I thought I was done! emoticon

Dreama, I'm sorry you have to get up so early!

Hi all;
I lost 4 pounds this week and am at 153 now. I was surprised but I guess because i had two low days and the rest higher helped. But I need to amp up my exercise and maybe stop snacking as much. Maybe think before I snack as to why I am reaching for food. A lot of times I think it is because I am bored and it has become a habit to grab something to eat.

Marilyn I never had that much trouble with cheese before. My thing is chocolate and candy. You are doing good with your diet.

Renee never tried amaranth and thanks for telling us about it. I have diverticulitis so I would not be able to eat it or chia seeds either. Sounds filling though. Can it be put in a food processor and ground at all?

Dreama glad to hear that you made it to a concert. I usually get up anywhere from 4-7 most days.

Jo still working on losing weight so one pair of corduroys fit me. The other two I can fit in but for some reason this pais shrunk or something. Also have size 12 pants that I want to fit in.

Kira congrats on your loss! I was told by a former GI doctor a bout Metamucil and tried it before and I still had trouble.

Good morning! I am off today, but it's going to be a busy day for sure. I've got to get my daughter to work and in the two hours she works I've got to get to the post office and grocery store. I've also got to start my own laundry. It's going to be more as my son is here and I'm going to be responsible for his laundry.

Tomorrow and Sunday are going to bite the dust. My son's job has him at work at 6:00 a.m. :( I DON'T like mornings to start with, but 4:00 a.m mornings is going to have me cranky. Please be praying for me.

Well, I need to make a phone call so have a great day.

Jo: I did make it to my concert!! Praising God for that!! It's always so fun to go! I'm always close to the youngest one there. Yes. It's one of those splurges that I allow myself. But it does honor God and for that, I think (of course, I don't know considering the fact that He's not told me outright) it pleases God that I do go.

The next few weeks are going to be rough. I have my second oldest son here - the one who is disabled. Poor hon. He's got to sleep in the living room because there is no room for him. I do hope he enjoys being here.

Well, I'm finally off. For some reason this week has seemed so long. I got off track with my diet plan today. I ate far too many carbs. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow.

Evening everyone, So nice to come and read everyone's posts! Dreama, did the migraine ease up and allow you to get to the concert?

Renee, thank you so much for the ticker change info. I had totally forgotten about that setting and where it was. Fun to make a change!

Today was the first I have ventured out since we went to church Saturday evening. I do not mind the cold but if there is any snow or ice on the sidewalks I stay in. Cannot risk falling! Did have a hair cut appointment late this morning and then got a 30% coupon for the store. Renee, I took that coupon and headed right to the underwear Time to get rid of baggies too!

Marilyn, you continue to do so well and keep learning things. I have had to make cheese changes. I was eating too much! I quit buying the slices and shredded because the package always says use in 3 days or so! I called a company one day and asked what happened if I kept an open package longer than 3 days! She said just watch for mold and taste! Now I just buy the prewrapped sticks. I have cut back. For me, it is the saturated fat in too much cheese.

Know that I have read all your posts and am thinking of each of you. Thank you for all being here. Rest well tonight everyone!

Jo

Kira, congratulations! Four pounds in a week is wonderful!

Jenny, I agree with Marilyn, you should post what your days look like now so we can support you!

Marilyn, no worries, we went out to dinner last night (my delayed birthday dinner that got cancelled a few days ago). I had curried chickpeas with basmati rice and loved it!

Not much new to talk about. I think I mentioned my baggy underwear on here the other day - I had a 25% coupon and there was free shipping at Hanes.com so I bought some size 10s. I thought that was what I was in, but they are 11s. When I did my big order with my birthday money, I bought 9s and 8s. So I messed up. But, they will come next week and I will have properly fitting drawers again for a while. emoticon

A regular customer at work gave Chris a $50 Whole Foods gift card for Christmas so we went before dinner and spent that last night. I love Whole Foods! I don't know if I've mentioned it here, but I recently discovered a grain called amaranth. It tastes good with a little bit of sugar in it, and it's very filling...and it keeps you REALLY regular. I got some out of the bulk bin last night to tide me over until my 15 pound bag gets here from Amazon. Hadn't had it for several days but cooked some up this morning. YUM! I wouldn't recommend it if you have diverticulitis though, because the grains are very small and would aggravate that condition.

I really relate to those of you with IBS. I had bulimia for ten years, including a LOT of laxative abuse, so I did permanent damage to my bowel. I had to take anti-spasmodics for a full year after I stopped, because my system was so twisted up and tight. They couldn't find Crohn's or UC on my two sigmoidoscopies, so they just called it IBS. Marilyn, I have a feeling I know what you are going through with so much cheese. It does it to me too. Every time I give a brief thought to maybe missing cheese since starting McDougall, I remember what it does to my digestive tract!

Will check in again before bed. Hope everyone is doing well! emoticon

Morning everyone - hope you are all doing well.

Renee = I still 'love' everyone hear - just been a strange week - but am now wondering where you are as you are one of the members that so faithfully participate here - hope you are ok.

Jenny - glad to hear that you are doing well and are making challenges. Would you be willing to share what a day of eating looks like now for you - you don't need to share what you are avoiding just what a day of food looks like now - it could be helpful to all of us when we share these type of things. Have you updated you weight tracker - I am so proud of you - you are on a journey that is not the easiest to do but your are such a strong lady that I just know that you will succeed and am looking forward to a year from now and seeing the change you have made.

I am still following my no sugar no flour and enjoying how I am feeling after only been doing this for 5 weeks. Still on a learning curve and am seeing I am going to have to make a change here. Have been having 2 oz of cheese (that is a serving) for lunch as my protein which is ok - but after doing this for just over 7 days I am seeing that the cheese is affecting me negatively - so I am putting the cheese away for a bit in order to let my body detox from it as I am feeling side effects from it that are not all that nice.

I am also learning re using the resistant band for arm exercise. This is new to me and I am one of those that making this type of change takes time - so am working on keeping positive thoughts in mind as I use it - thinking things like 'oh arms you are going to look so nice in a couple of months doing this' Need to keep the end result fresh in mind otherwise using the band just wont work for me.

Am needing to take 10 minutes to sit and close my eyes - it is a sign of detoxing from the cheese - so am going to sign off for now but will return to read all messages - and hopefully there will be many to read.

I'm home today with lots of paper work to complete. I did manage to lead my first team in store the last 2 days. Long days 10 to 12 hours in store. I'm praying that everything got done. Guess as I complete the paper work today I will find out.

I'm so happy that this past week I lost 4lbs, that's the biggest loss I've had in a long time. Tweaking my diet a little bit at a time seems to be working. This week I'm not changing anything. 2 weeks ago I made some small changes. My am coffee was the main one. I have been a 2 cream 2 sugar girl since I got pregnant with my now almost 21 year old son, before that I was black coffee only, however the kiddo changed my taste buds and double double became my normal. 2 weeks ago I changed it to 1 sugar and 2 cream. It took a while to get used too but now I can't drink it with 2 sugars. Next week I'm going to cut the cream in half for 4 weeks. The dietitian that I work with suggested that 4 weeks is a good time frame for changes. She also suggests not making too many at the same time, as we are creatures of habit and often go back to our old ways if things get hard. The other biggest change I have made is no snacking during the day. I still let myself snack a little in the evening while watching tv but I put all snacks now in containers and don't just bring the bag/or whole item out.

DLWHATLEY70 – prayers that you get rid of your migraine. I get the wind trigger for migraines as strong winds can trigger one for me.

POETLKNG2LOSE – bowels not working right can be a real pain. I have had issues in the past. My doctor and dietitian both recommended Metamucil daily with lots of water. I don’t take it daily anymore but still have some on hand if things start to slow down. I did take it for a few months and it does work, not overnight but after a while of taking it you notice that things are getting better.

Have a great Day

Good morning!! Please be praying that God will get rid of this migraine. Today is the day of the concert and I woke (at 4:30 no doubt) with a migraine. I want to be well enough to drive to Loveland - more than an hour south of me. They don't get to Colorado very often and never to Wyoming.

I suspect the migraine has something to with the high winds we are supposed to be having. Strange weather to have a migraine, but yes, high wind is a trigger for me. I took that last of my migraine pills in hopes that it helps.

Anyway, have a great day!

I have not been feeling well of late. I need to get more regulated with my bowels. Sometimes I do not go for 2 days and that does not help my stomach either. Had to take orange juice today to get it moving. Weigh in is tomorrow and hope I do not gain again.

Renee good for you losing and having baggy underwear!

Kira good luck finding a job! I am underqualified, too old, and cannot drive so I am out of luck.

Greetings to all - sorry I have not been around - just having strange days lately - can't even describe what they have been like - one minute a headache then it goes and a sore throat, then it goes and feel ok and then it starts all over. I think I might be fighting off a cold/flu but my body it not letting it get me right down just letting me know it is close. Today I suffered around lunchtime with some vertigo but quickly got that under control some ginger essential oil and it seems to have gone

Now, how am I doing? Well today is weigh in day for me - and I have lost another even 1 pound - so since November 5 I have lost 19.4 pounds and am feeling really good about that. When at TOPS this morning, waiting to get weighed, 2 of the ladies in line said 'boy you sure can tell you have lost' and my reply was 'thanks, I know the clothes are fitting differently but really don't see it' and they replied 'look in the mirror at your face as it is really showing there.' When I got home from the meeting I mentioned this to Norm (hubby) and he looked at me, laughed and said, 'yup I agree your face looks thinner but does your chest - you don't have that cleavage anymore' = just what I needed to hear right LOL. Isn't it that way, where you want it to show it doesn't but where you are not all that worried about it starts there first. But I will take it

Am still complaint with the program - Week 5 / Month 2 / day 35 = and all is well = can't believe I made it this far with staying on program. Think it is mainly due to the fact that every morning I am telling myself 'Just for today eat what I have planned today being Day 1' = and I look back and see that I have done Day 1 35 times in a row. So it does work.

Previously I mentioned that I was going to start 'exercising' this month. I had a good look at the treadmill and my mind kept saying 'not ready yet' and I looked at resistant bands and my mind said 'sounds ok'. So I am going to work with the bands for the month of December working on helping the arms not to get to saggy as the weight comes off. I am hoping that when January comes along - or 30 days from now - that this will be a habit and at that time I will relook at using the treadmill more. I know I need to be in the right state of mind to do it regularly so am not going to push it. In this program I am doing she explains that is you are already in the habit of exercising - say walking quite a few miles each day, then continue - but if not don't fret it. She shares that when people start on a program for weight loss and try to make changes re eating and changes re exercise at the same time that they usually crash within 7 days as they are working on too many changes at one time.

So I am going to slowly incorporate more movement. Starting with the bands for my arms - am thinking that it will be more like middle of January before I move onto the treadmill on a daily basis. By then I hope to be down 5 - 10 more pounds which will definitely help.

I was on the big site for this program and getting a lot of information from many that are doing it - and so many are struggling - think some of that is because the addiction is really strong but also that they are not completely ready to make the change. That really makes a difference. At any rate a few of them have shared that they are having trouble with family members not supporting them - sisters, brothers, parents - that these family members seem to share negative thoughts of them failing. That to me is so sad. But I do understand how that happens especially if over the year we have shared with family that we have 'found the program' only not to follow through with it. So for me this time around I have not shared with my 2 sisters as I think they might think that way. One sister lives here in town and the other has just left for the States for 6 months. I talk to the one that lives here weekly but due to our lives been so different and age some being an age different (she is 10 years old and really set in her ways - reminds me so much of my mom). But every May and September the 3 of us girls get together for a lunch - so this coming May without me actually telling them that I am losing weight they will see the result. The one sister in town will probably notice a difference before that as we will be getting together sometime in January - but am not going to go into what I am doing or really sharing how much I have lost - if she asks which I am sure she will - I will just say yes I have lost some - and leave it at that. Then in May I will reveal what I have been doing as I should have lost at least 50 pounds by then is not closer to 80 so it will be noticeable.

Well, all meals have been eaten, and in 45 minutes we need to leave to go to Church for our annual General Meeting - to approve the budget among other things. Should be only an hour but it is going out in the cold - but my sweet hubby says he will heat up the care before we leave which is nice.

When I get back will see about putting up another blog in case any of your are interested in reading it / or are following them.

By the way Jenny - how is it going - are you following the eating plan - hope you are making great strides in following it as it should help a lot when you do get the surgery. Come and let us know how you are doing

Where is Marilyn? I think she doesn't love us anymore! emoticon

I've had a topsy-turvy kind of eating day. Didn't overeat, didn't stray from McDougall, but I ate what I wanted instead of what I "should" eat. I had oats in soy yogurt twice, grains with sriracha, and three big bowls of frozen cherries. Oh, and a bowl of sweetened bulgur wheat around 3:30.

Only the grain meal counts as a regular meal, since it was full of veggies and greens too. The rest of it was catering to my whims. Lots of starch and fruit. I'm okay with that.

Laugh if you want, but my underwear felt baggy this morning, so I jumped on the scale. Was down another pound and a half. 209.9, so 210, but it's technically in the next range of ten pounds, so I am happy. I need to stop wearing this group of undies and just wear the new ones. The others are too big.

I have also lost another inch each in my waist, hips, and around my belly. Getting ever closer to that size 12!

One last thing - I have discovered a grain called amaranth, and I love it. I sweeten it with a bit of sugar since it's pretty bland on its own, but then it tastes good and has a good consistency and flavor. Dr. McDougall allows us to use sugar and salt after cooking if we want, so it's okay. And let's just say this stuff TOTALLY cleared out my digestive system. My belly was almost flat this morning! I ordered a 15 pound bag of it off Amazon yesterday, with the intention of having a bowl every day for breakfast or my afternoon snack. I love it!

Hi everyone, Stopping by to say hello before this day is over:

Dreama, you are a busy girl! Keeping your family in prayer for the needs posted.

Kira, so nice to see your posts!

We woke up to 14 degrees and some snow this morning after having such beautiful weather for several days. But that is the way the weather goes - up & down.. Went out and filled the bird feeder after the squirrel had his fill. He hangs upside down to get in the one feeder. The little birds were really hungry today too!

Have a restful night everyone!

Good morning! I hope you are all having a lovely day!

I've got two big houses to clean today. Then there is the bank. I did most of my 'bare necessities' yesterday so today I'm going to focus on getting another section cleaned. I didn't clean two sections last week due to time constraints and, in all honesty, it was Thursday evening and I wanted to be off.

I spent much of my Friday running errands/appointments, and working on a Christmas gift for my ex. He's leaving for the Philippines either this Wednesday or Thursday and won't be back until after the new year. I'm keeping our son during that time.

Saturday was spent cleaning my own house. Then it was back to work yesterday, so all-in-all, no real time off for me.

This week is the concert. I'm so excited. I may go to Casper in May to see the Zach Williams band. I've not completely decided.

Have a great day! I AM going to finish this coffee before I even start writing a list. Then it's going to be list writing, dishes, making the bed, and all the other 'what I have to get done in the morning' stuffs.

Please continue praying for my daughter as she is still under attack and not really heeding my advice to pray and read her Bible daily.

Please continue praying that my other children will come to know the Lord.

So the job interview went better then expected. Had to fill in some forms and will find out at the end of the week if I will be moved to the next round of interviews.

Other news we bought an older car (99 Saturn SL) for my daughter to use and me to have as backup if my 06 Dodge Caravan finally kicks the bucket, it has 350000 km on it, we expect it to give up any time. I drove it home from Enthristle and it was good on the highway.

I didn't get my walk in yesterday between work, job interview, driving to get car and laundry time wasn't there.

Renee: I'm still griping onto 48 for a couple of months. Yes the job market has changed, thankfully I have managed to almost keep up. I still prefer phone calls to texting. I have been hosting Skype meetings for a few years now, once you learn how they are easy to set up.

Kira, I'm not sure how old you are (and I'm not pressuring you to tell me! lol!) but I just turned 49 and I've been out of the job market for five years due to a long-term disability leave I had to take. I have been looking for a job since April.

Things have really changed with technological advances! I had one Skype interview, and I see ads that say "we're happy to announce our new video system for interviewing." They make you submit a recorded video as part of your application. I have taken more than one personality test as part of the application process, and I know someone else who was required to do a preliminary phone interview using an automated question list. She got so nervous, she bombed it and didn't get a callback.

I feel so old! That stuff is becoming more and more commonplace, and I don't like it! emoticon

On another topic, I finally posted two blogs yesterday and today, @MARILYNS481, you got your wish! emoticon

7 am right now, still dark sunrise not until 8:37 am and sunset at 4:15 pm. Temp is -13 C and getting colder by non it will be -19 C.

Today is going to be a very interesting day. Yesterday I got notice that some of my work expenses were denied, this on top of the way my position has changed in the last few months was the final push for me to update my resume and start looking for a new job. Hubby and I talked and really it is the perfect time for me to do it, he is home right now doing some online training and can take over most of the stuff for our youngest. Anyway, yesterday I applied for 6 positions. I actually got a response from one yesterday and have a phone interview today at noon. Not sure that it will be the right thing but it is nice to know that after 10 years with the same company my resume can still get me an interview. Now to figure out what the wear for a phone interview (joke)...

Hi Kira, it's nice to see you posting here! Looking forward to supporting you as you meet your goals!

Not much to talk about today. Just wanted to say hi.

I am simmering a pot of amaranth, which is a new-to-me whole grain I am trying out as part of the McDougall program. 2 cups grain to 3 cups water, 25 minutes. I hope it comes out better than the quinoa I tried two weeks ago. That was YUCK! Went in the trash. The bag of amaranth only cost me $4.38 on Amazon, so I had to at least try it. If it's good, it will be breakfast for the next two or three days. I am learning so much about healthy whole grains with McDougall.

Just finished a bowl of frozen cherries - my new obsession. I have been eating at least one cup a day for the last week! We're going grocery shopping for the week tomorrow. I need two more bags at least! I am not usually a big fruit eater, except for spurts where I like bananas, but I love frozen fruit. It tastes sweeter than fresh. I have found that it's been many years since I enjoyed most fresh fruits. They're all so big now, and they don't taste like anything anymore. There is no sweetness. I am hooked on these cherries though!

Marilyn, I didn't realize you're so tiny! I think the doctor is right - get to 150 first and then you can decide whether you want to lose more. I am still technically overweight above 150 (I'm 5'5") but I don't want to go below that. The BMI chart says my max weight should be 150. I'm not going to be that far over it, that will have to be good enough!

edited to add: The amaranth was VERY bland. And the package said it would make 3 cups but it's more like 6. So I stirred 4 tbsp of sugar into it, and now it's good! I guess I will eat this again. I only sampled it now, we'll see if I like for breakfast tomorrow. Hopefully!

Afternoon everyone - was so happy to come to the group today and saw some new messages to read - really encouraged me a lot.

@SHMOOKITTY = Renee you are so amazing - you just keep on trucking and getting such good results - and you are such an encourager. You asked re ultimate goal. I have a long way to go. I am only 5 feet (lost 2 inches over the last few years). Doctor said he would be happy for me to first get to 150 and then evaluate from there. I can remember being at that weight and not feeling healthy. So am thinking (and talked with doctor and he thinks it could be the one) that I should be more around 115 - 120 but getting to 150 will be a big success. I am on my way to that number but right now I am just setting a small goal of getting to 225 - am at 252 so just over 25 pounds - hmmmm wonder how long it will take me. Just looked at the calendar and assuming I lose 1.5 every week for 24 weeks I could be at this weight by March 24. But I am thinking that I might be there before then - just a feeling I am having. But will see - take it one day, one week at a time.

@MOSSROSE4 - Jo loved reading your message - you are going to do good on your plan - I can see that you are going to start losing consistently and before you know it there will be 3 of us just dropping off the weight - and everyone else on the group will get behind us and start doing the same.

@ONEAGLESWINGS19 - Jenny I am so proud of you - wish I was there to give you a big hug - you are going to do so well on this. Making changes are difficult but I believe in you, you are a strong woman and you have Christ cheering you on also. Starting with coffee and fruit is a big step. Take it one day at a time and if need be one meal or even one hour - but just get through one day and you will. We are cheering you on. You are fortunate as you have your mother with you who is also a great encourager so she I am sure will do all she can to help you stay true to this plan - remember that you are doing this for your health - stand tall, get one day behind you , let us know you have been successful for one, two or more days - we are cheering you on.

@MAJORK29 - so nice to read a message from you. Love your goals - am sure you will be successful at reaching them. Keep us informed as the days go by on how you are doing.

I am doing well - today I am 32 days into my program (Week 5 / 1 month completed) and am feeling really good. It just seems to be getting easier and easier - but one thing I am starting to thing / see is I am looking for more recipes re no sugar no flour. So if any of you come across one that fits that please post it on our recipe thread.

Well, I am having a late lunch - roasted chicken (4 oz) and tomatoes (6 oz) - next week am going to be making a very large batch of veggy soup as the days are cold now and having a bowl of veggy soup (plus a little chicken in it) would taste good.

So will sign off for now - look forward to reading more messages when I return

Guess I am just going to jump in here. I'm going to be working on tweaking my diet again. Small changes work best for me. When I try and go full out on any diet I fail very quickly. This month I am working on the 3 following things in my diet.

#1. Drinking at least 64 oz of water every day
#2. Dropping down from 2 tsp of sugar in my coffee to 1 tsp.
#3. Adding 1 more vegetable a day

I am also going to work on the following 3 fitness/health things.

#1. Increase my daily step count to over 8000 steps per day
#2. Complete the Shoulder and Arm workout at least 5 times per week
#3. Take the stairs as much as possible and increase my floors climbed to at least 10 per day

My 3 personal goals

#1. Keep my kitchen clean
#2. Plan the family meals in advance
#3. Journal Daily

Have a great Day

Jo, that must have been super frustrating fighting that hard for a measly half pound! I can't imagine! emoticon

Jenny, I am so happy the process is going so smoothly for you. It's lovely when you feel the Lord showing you the right path. emoticon

Hi everyone I am doing well I have chosen to start introduce some small changes from the diet into my life. I will be forgoing fruit and giving up coffee completely or I can drink it with lactaid milk which is another option. In terms of the program I got a shock yesterday; the psychologist's office called me and wanted to set up an appointment with me for the psych evaluation. So next month in the new year on the 6th I am going in for it. I am pretty much in a state of shock. It is like God has blown the door wide open for me and He is saying here is the way now walk in it.

Hello everyone, Back on the computer after being away a bit. Did some editing on my plan post etc. while riding in the car. Gave up trying to post as the cellular on my ipad would go in and out. Catching up on posts. Marilyn, I am truly sorry what grief you went through about having posts deleted. I just cannot imagine anyone feeling the need to report something like that. I will read that sparkpeople link you posted. Anyway, your posts are all so full of encouragement and help for me and other people. You are a blessing to many!

Renee, good job on the scale going down! The scale can be a strange thing at times! I have gotten on to weigh and look at the number when it went up for no reason! Then later it goes back down! I always think about the time I first joined WW so many years ago. I got within 1/2 pd. of my goal! It took me 6 weeks to get rid of that 1/2 pd. I never went off the plan - and the scale just went up - down - up. down for 6 weeks!

Jenny, so happy to read you have been accepted into the program. I enjoyed reading your post about your plan. It means changes but I know you can do it and be a success! Good days ahead for you!!

It is a beautiful sunny day and the snow left from the recent storm a couple days ago is melting!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Marilyn, look at you! Influencing all those ladies with your program! I am so excited for you!

Congrats on the weight loss too. It does slow down to 1-2 pounds after a while. One odd thing about McDougall is I either lose 3-4 pounds a week, or none at all, then it releases again after a few days. Recently I went from 214 to 212, then back to 214 for several days, and then this morning it was 211.4. How did I miraculously release 2 1/2 pounds overnight? It is a bit bizarre, but I'll take it! I will be glad when I get under 200 though!

Good that you won't have the temptation of pie this year for Christmas. I saw a ton of vegan pumpkin pie recipes for Thanksgiving, but I don't want a whole pie in the house, so I didn't make them! I would have no self control!

Have you decided on your ultimate weight goal yet? Mine has changed a few times, but I think I am going to stick with this one - a range of 152-158. So basically 155 with a plus or minus of 3%. I think I can handle that.

No Christmas traditions here. I am 2 1/2 hours from my mom and sister, and don't travel well due to the arthritis in my lower spine, so we don't go up there. Chris and I don't even exchange gifts - we just buy things all year round when we happen to see something the other would like, rather than try to purposely find something on a deadline, which rarely works for us. Once you're married and the money comes out of the same pot, it's not the same as actually treating the other person!
