Hi everyone, Watcher143 thanks for the advice about icing as I wasn't sure whether to ice or use a heating pad. I did put an ace bandage on the other day and thought that helped. I did have one knee surgery years ago but the other knee bothers me more. So I will try the ice. As for exercise I don't have an elliptical or a bike but I do have a lot of exercise videos. I used to go to the gym and the instructor would have me do floor exercises that were very effective for my belly fat. I got out of habit of doing them when the gym closed. I need to set goals and put them on paper. Then maybe if I get started eventually I will keep going. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi... sorry about your knee issues. I am only 39 and I have had two knee surgeries myself. Take care of them! I would suggest icing a few times a week or nightly especially after a long day of work. You can also get a good wrap to put on them (like an ace bandage) and wrap them for a while. Sometimes that helps.
As for exercising it would be good for you to do biking, or elliptical instead of anything to put a lot of pressure on them.
Extra weight can sure put pressure on the knees, so good job getting back on Sparkpeople and making a conscience decision to take care of yourself. I am in the same boat. I joined 4 years ago and have been going back and forth with my weight. I have decided to set me some do-able goals and working on one think at a time. I am going to try to incorporate a new thing once a week ( or change a habit once a week). Today was my first day back exercising since my knee surgery last April. I want to ease back in it.. but I sure have felt better already today! It's amazing. I don't know why I let myself get out of hand. Good luck with your efforts.

Your story sounds like mine! I joined in 2010, lost about 10 pounds, then just quit. I got serious in October, and with all the support here, have lost almost 20 pounds now. Fortunately for me, my knees are fine, so I don't have any advice there. I'm sure others can help you with that. The important thing is, you are making the right choice to keep working at weight loss! emoticon

Hi everyone, I joined Spark People about 2 years ago and stayed with it for awhile then quit. I have gained back about 8 lbs. and now I need to get serious about losing the weight as my knees are starting to create real problems for me. I do house cleaning and that is hard work especially when I do a new construction house. Does any one have any good advice for dealing with sore knees? I am 60 years old so I really do need to get serious about losing the weight.
