OR we can decide to het over our temporary fear and have a great new experience and feel proud ever after!

How are you doing now, QUADCMOM?

How is everyone doing?

I've been on track with my food choices in the past 14 days... but I may still be eating too much. My focus now is on learning to eat no more than my planned evenings snack.

Still not eating any sugar... In the weekend I'm okay with eating at night but I hope to continue to make the evening meal my last eating moment of the day during the work days of the coming week.

OBIESMOM that sounds like a nice recipe - even to a near-vegan like me! :)

Nancy, the fridge sounds like a good idea; I often find the quality of veggie dishes diminishes after freezing them. I do freeze them but I'm somehow never thrilled to use them later on...

Christina I usually keep them in the fridge because between the three of us, they don't last long! Sometimes, though, a large pot of stew will get boring after awhile so I will freeze enough of that to pull out in the future.

I'm still staring at / intimidated by the Instapot - it was a busy weekend so I didn't have time to play with it yet.

I'm cooking spaghetti squash in my crock pot this morning.

I made a recipe a while back that was really good, but I don't recall where I found it. I'm going to try to recreate from memory.

It's a spaghetti squash primavera. I know that after the squash cooks & a get all the strands out, I put them back in the crock pot with frozen mixed veggies (corn, carrots, peas) and let that cook. Then add a block of cream cheese (Kroger has a store brand Greek yogurt cream cheese that's really good). After that has melted to make the sauce, I stir in some chopped bacon (cooked).

This is a multi-step crock pot recipe, so I have to be home to make it. I'm off today. By the time I get back from my morning exercise the spaghetti squash should be ready to shred.

I do most of my cooking on Sundays for the week ahead for several reasons: I hate coming home after a long day and having to start cooking, plus I hate to cook so I get it over with in one shot! I usually prepare 2 -3 meals so whenever someone comes home, they have a choice of what to heat up.

I'm hoping the Instapot will help me throw something together quickly for those nights when we run out of leftovers!

I am thinking of starting a routine (if I can?) of cooking extra meals in the weekend so we will feel less tempted to go out to eat or eat quick but not-so-healthy meals when we're tired.

I'm pretty good about getting to the gym for my Mon, Wed, Thu 6am classes that I like.

Now I've added a short run following my workout at the YMCA on days that I don't have to go to work (I'm easing into retirement; currently working 3 days/week).
So, when I don't have to go to work I do a quick run over to the parking deck on the square to get in my 10 flights of stairs. That gives me a 1 mile (total) run and 10 flights of stairs.

I've had trouble sleeping, so I was really glad to get 7 hours of sleep last nights. emoticon

I haven't been to the gym in awhile, all my exercise has been doing lots of walking during lunch at work. However, I dislike returning my desk all sweaty and hot. It wasn't too bad during the cooler days but we seem to be having a warm spell lately. Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Beginning to feel better but still have some symptoms. I have thankfully been able to do some much-needed cleaning now.

Nancy how are you doing with your goal of going to the gym?

The habits I wanted to work on were:
1* Doing strength training twice a week (at home, arms, abs, legs and back).
2 * Having 1 snack in the afternoon and evening.

I've taken up the challeng with the ST (strengh traning) again now, did 15 minutes yesterday and today. My aim is to now split up the sessions and just do 10-15 minutes per day, 6 per week working abs, arms and legs. Yesterday I did abs, today legs.

I am still working conistently on having just 1 snack (no grazing). I keep check of this and the other goal in my notebook. Last night I was able to delay having my evening snack hoping that would mean I'd have just 1 eating moment. It worked!

Happy October!
With the wedding over and a new month ahead, I am going to be focusing more on getting rid of the bad habits that have made up most of my days lately and replacing them with good ones. Yesterday I dove headfirst into some leftover cake and also ate way too many cookies because they are the good kind from the bakery, not prepackaged store bought junk. I think my focus this month will to eliminate the junk food and excess sugar. I have a few other things in mind as well.

I haven't been doing well with food - ate 'treats' (cake) for my husband's birthday THREE times last week so that was overdoing it. And yesterday visited my father, which was a tough day and I somehow lied to myself about it being okay to have more treats. Today is a new day and I intend to stick to my food plan and have 5 eating moments (3 meals, 2 snacks).
There's a very busy 10 days ahead of me, to also be dealing with withdrawal symptoms from the dairy, gluten en sugar will be tough but I have no choice, it's either continueing to overeat and binge eating foods that damage my health or get on a better road and build up my wellbeing.
I really want to be there for my husband, he needs me. And I want to continue my path towards less aches and (foot) pains.

Met my brother yesterday and he was complaining about the problems he has due to diabetes. Neuropathy is one of them. I really want to do more to avoid diabetes.

Though I was feeling down and 'blah' this morning I did clean the kitchen and that helped me feel a bit better.

Ha ha! Maybe you can make 'post on the team' one of your 'daily goals' for a while?
Glad to see you still want to be here.

I do want to stay active on the team - I just find myself forgetting to check in! My routine on Spark does not include checking on the teams I am on, I just spin the wheel, read articles, read friend's blogs and write a personal blog...I need to focus on creating a "good habit" to actively participate in the "Working on Good Habits" team!

I very often think that I would like to try to eat just 3 meals per day and no snacks. But to be honest I am afraid to try it.... worried that getting very hungry would make me overeat / binge later on...

I too find it hard to see food 'wasted' but we also need to watch our health...

Did my strength training today and feel good because I did it. It's just hard to do the exercises... I hope it will get easier with time... I skipped the ST for 1 or 2 weeks in the past month because I was overwhelmed by all the events but I did my routine twice in the past week and intend to continue like this...

I did better yesterday, only having one small sample. I even watched one woman throw away some leftovers that I had been eyeing and it felt strange to watch perfectly good food being thrown in the trash.I guess she felt if no one had eaten it by 2:00 no one was going to.

That is quite a challenge Seaglass, people placing those platters there. Maybe you can make a rule that you will never pick any food of that counter? Maybe once it's a rule you can stop thinking about it... ? It stops the incessant wondering 'shall I, but I should not, but shall I?'... Judith Beck teaches us to train ourselves in shrugging and saying 'oh, well'. In other words: yes I'd like to eat that but it interefers with my goal of being healthy, so I'm just going to move on' (something like that).
I hope you can figure out the routines soon. It will definitely help I think once you know what you're at so you can plan when to eat!

I'm still trying to figure out the "routine" at work (there doesn't seem to be one) in terms of breaks, when to take lunch, etc. So I 'm eating my snacks when I get too hungry to focus rather than having them at set times (not sure if this is a good idea or not). Plus people are forever bringing in goodies to share and no, they are not veggies plates or fruit bowls. They plant these platters of cookies and breads and cakes on the front counter which I need to pass repeatedly to get to the printer.

So what are snacks that you frequently have?

I often have a piece of fruit and a handfull of nuts in the afternoon. And a piece of fruit plus 2 ricecakes with nut butter in the evening. IF I behave, that is... emoticon

I do better with snacks that combine fiber & protein. They seem to satisfy me longer.

I want to try to focus on my snacks in the next weeks. See if I can stop the grazing and just prepare one snack at once and then eat it and not go back for more.

Thank you for sharing.

If I get very hungry I will overeat... at least that's how it's often been. It makes me hesitate to cut out the snacks...

I can usually tell I'm really hungry because my stomach is growling.

It's kind of a fine line though because if I get too hungry I'm not likely to make the best food choices.

True hunger is physically painful for me - seems like it builds up gradually and does not hit all at once out of nowhere. I get lightheaded, stomach hurts, then I get a headache. If I'm not able to eat anything, I feel worse for awhile and then it subsides but doesn't go away completely. And if I think about what I want when I'm physically hungry, I tend to desire a healthier choice like protein and fruit or veggies - a real meal. Whereas with a craving - well, I tend to want a particular food or type of food (sweet, salty, crunchy) but if I distract myself, the intensity goes away and eventually so does the craving.

You're doing great OBIESMOM2!

'True hunger' has always been a mystery for me... I guess I am so addicted to food that I will see any sign as one of hunger! How do you know if you are dealing with true hunger?

the important part of ending bad habits that many people don't think about is replacing the bad habit with a good one.

When I want to eat for any reason other than TRUE hunger, I need to drink a glass of water, or get up and move around.

This morning I've gotten in half of my daily steps, and climbed 20 flights of stairs. My plan is to go for a run this evening to finish off my steps and get my heart rate up.

Best of luck Seaglass! I too am starting over today doing a raw food day, I know I'll have cravings after a few days of eating unhealthy foods so I think I might as well be strict now and get through them.

I am "starting over" again today with working on building positive habits while eliminating negative ones. My challenge this weekend is to drop the junk sugar.

I read an article yesterday about the signs of gluten intolerance and realized that I show 10 of the 14 signs... Very interesting. I had not eaten wheat / gluten for 6 months until last week.

I am cutting it out again now - if I can, that is - and will see what happens.
