Morning ladies,

While I am still sitting on a pillow, happy to report my gluts are better. LOL, I have a bruise that covers 1/2 of one side and it is now a deep purple. I know - to much information emoticon

Temperature will hit a high of 84 with humidity still high reaching 91% - ok, I am soooo over this and was happy to move out of the mid-west (Michigan) because they have high humidity in the summer.

This morning I have another appointment and will be on the freeway. Once home, nothing for the rest of the day. Well there is stuff to do but I don't need to "be anywhere"

Judy - You Tube has everything, glad you are enjoying your Instant Pot

Sandra - computers are such a blessing and such a curse when it doesn't work like we want it to. I am on Facebook and you can reach me: Carol Serafano Kuzon

Gloria - Happy, happy birthday, enjoy your day to the fullest. I fell in the shower, went flying off the built in seat because it was as slick as snot. emoticon

Bev Anne - sure hope Gordon's surgery is smooth and very easy

Waving to all, have a great Thursday emoticon

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

One day I won't be able to do this, but today is not that day

Gloria, enjoy your day in Port Dover. The weather is good. Apparently Port Dover got some hail on Sunday. I had thought it would be fun for me to be in Port Dover at the same time as you but it got to be too much for my brain to figure out. Happy birthday.

My husband is out for breakfast again. Just one of his buddies is meeting him this time. He took me out yesterday. We went to a new-to-him place in Kingsville. I had been there before for lunch with my girl friend (pre-pandemic). He says we will go back. Since my favourite place closed, we have been looking for another restaurant that isn't too expensive.

I have been watching instructions on YouTube for using an Instant Pot. I got one over a year ago and haven't been using it much because I wasn't sure how. The videos are very helpful. I did our corn on the cob last night and it was good. I am planning to try chicken and rice tonight. It will get easier, I am sure, if I use it more.

I like to vacuum when Ted is out so I'd better get busy.

Sandra, thank you. When you get back on face book, look me up? I'm Gloria Donovan-Bye on there. At least on face book we can pop in on one another's wall to say Hi. I don't put personal stuff, like photos of my grandsons or my great-grandchildren because they are all private people on face book and don't want to be put on there. I usually send messages to them on messengerr. Anyhow, it's fun to be there and to see friends. I'm sure the friend you're meeting today will help you to clear that up and get you back on again. Looking forward to seeing you there! Hugs!

Gloria: I and I'm sure lots of others will miss the morning greetings from you, Carol and recently Bev Anne. Have a great day with Mame!

Today I'm meeting a young man at the library (across the street, Carol :) ) and I hope that he can help me get straightened out with Facebook, ultimately, but also help me with other questions I have re this new laptop. I was going along merrily for years enjoying my computer and then made a stupid mistake (clicking on "clear all" at just the wrong spot). Then more mistakes to try to fix that mistake and then I just couldn't get Facebook back. After that I just wanted to give up but I'm being encouraged to get back into my activities on Facebook.

Have a good day, folks!

emoticon Good morning. I'm heading down to Port Dover this morning for my birthday lunch with my niece Mame. I haven't been down there since Les passed away and it's such a beautiful little lakeside town. Not a lot of beach since the lake rose a couple of years ago but a nice pier to sit on and watch the boats come up the harbour. Looking forward to all this, such a special treat for me.

Bev Anne, it really is great that you live near your daughter, she'll be a great help in these ways. Let us know how it goes with Gordon?

Hello to anyone reading and especially to those still posting. I sure will miss coming in here, you all start my day off right!

Enjoy a healthy Thursday.

Gloria, Gordon's surgery is just to remove a growth that shouldn't be where it is. The surgeon seemed quite confident that he could remove it all but of course, it will have to be tested once they get it out to see if it is cancerous. He is jokingly referring to it as his surgery of the year -- he seems to be a frequent flyer at the Rockyview Hospital and he also had his cataract surgeries at the High River Hospital last year.

One of the reasons that we moved back to this area is so that Gordi could help us in times like this but we didn't expect to make use of her services quite so often -- hopefully, this will be the last time but there are no guarantees.

Bev Anne, what is Gordon's day surgery for? If you've mentioned it I either didn't see it or don't recall. Refresh my memory for me on this, please?

Carol, as usual, you have things on the go for you. You keep busy all the time and sometimes I can't keep up to you, lol. No plans for today, just regular chores and leg exercising and also relaxing. We're going way up in the 80's for the next week or so and yep, humidity is going to make it feel much hotter! Not my kind of weather at all. Hope it's cooler by the lake tomorrow. What is causingg the gluteus pain? That sounds terrible!

Morning ladies,

Sorry to be so late, the maintenance guy was here at 8:00am to install a new stove top. He also fixed a cupboard that wouldn't close, it was tweaked in our move.

I am waiting for another maintenance guy to come out, so I am dashing through again. Today is the 1st day in almost a week that my gluteus isn't as painful and that pain isn't running down my leg. It was very painful yesterday and I tried to go to Urgent Care but the wait was 2 hrs and I couldn't sit there that long.

Our weather is 78 degrees but the humidity is up to 97%....crazy just crazy

Bev Anne - so glad that DD can take him to the surgery center.

Gloria - what do you have planned today?

Judy - love the picture of the cucumbers, you have a "green thumb"

Sandra - LOL, hope you get out of your chair without the fire alarm going off, or is your chair like your street? emoticon

Roz - yes, people are creating this vicious cycle

Beck: Wednesday Sabotage:

I can't believe I gave in to that craving. I can't do this. I should just give up.

Response: Learning to gain control over my eating is a process, and it takes time.

I'm not going to learn it overnight, and I'm not going to be good at it overnight.

Just because I gave in once, doesn't negate all the other times I didn't. I need to take an accurate picture of how things are really going and acknowledge that while I'm not perfect, I'm better than I was.

As long as I keep working at it, I'll keep moving forward.

I just spent the morning rearranging things on the calendar as Gordon has been called in for day surgery tomorrow. Gordianne will take him in and pick him up since he has to have a "responsible adult with him" and I don't drive anymore. We have also had to change lots of other appointments for the next couple of weeks as well. We have to call this afternoon to get the exact time of the surgery.

I guess I won't be going anywhere or doing anything for the next couple of weeks so it's good that I have plenty to do at home. I'm not sure when Gordi and I will get to the lake again but we definitely will soon.

emoticon Good morning to whoever is still here and reading the posts. We still have a couple of weeks to chat.

Bev Anne, this site (SP) is the best site on the net, in my opinion and the past few days when I was unable to get here showed me what it's going to be like after the 17th. You set up a nice group on face book and I'm staying on it but am leaving some of the other groups that were formed on there - they've gotten too big for me! Swimming is one exercise that gets all your body parts moving and so gently in the water. The body aches will subside and wow, you're going to really enjoy those times!

Hello to everyone reading. I'm so happy to be back here with you. It's a beautiful start to my day here but it's going to really heat up again!

Enjoy your Tuesday.

Welcome back, Gloria!

My swim yesterday was more exercise than I am used to and I am feeling it today. My back and ankles are kind of achy but it is a good feeling to know that those parts of my body still work. We will be going again later in the week and I will take my waterproof camera with me -- I have it charging as we speak.

My book club meets tonight -- I have read several books since our last meeting so I will have lots to talk about. I still have several books from the library to get me through August when they will shut down to move to the new building next door. I am excited to see the new facility from the inside.

I'm still here. Ted made it home safely Sunday afternoon. Just now, he left for another golf date - with a different friend than his usual Tuesday. That friend has gone camping with his grandchildren, something they do every August. From the pictures they post, it looks like a lot of fun.

Before the pandemic, my middle son and some of his in-laws were renting a large cottage on an island, for a week in August. They had gone to the same place for 3 or 4 years because it worked so well. Each family was in charge of the evening meal on different nights. They had quite a system going. It always sounded like so much fun. There were lots of toys there for their use and one year one of the older 'kids' rented a seadoo. I remember that our grandson was upset the first year because he couldn't connect to the internet. Then one day he was out in the middle of the lake on a boat and connected. No one had very young children so everyone could just relax and do their own thing. They would come home and rent the cottage again for the next summer.

My cucumbers are producing well. I check them every day but I am often surprised at how many big ones I find since the previous day. This is what I found this morning. Not bad for someone who never grew cucumbers. I have never made relish so I am looking for a good recipe.

Good day, all. I'm just showing up...nothing happening here unless somebody sets off the fire alarm and forces me out of this chair!!

Aw...it's a nice day and I still have time to rouse myself and get out.

Good morning Ladies,

I'm glad that I was able to do 30 minutes exercise this morning and 10 minutes yesterday.
Since Covid I have not been going walking or swimming in the sea because of lockdown

Carol---A lot of the young persons 'protest' against the lock down by holding parties we are not supposed to have more than 5 persons assembled with social distancing. So the police are always making arrests . It's a viscous circle for sure

Be Ann-------That early morning swim could be so invigorating

Have a great time of day everyone.
Much Love
Roz.

Morning Ladies,

Flying through as I have an early appointment at the Coumadin Clinic. Bill is coming with me so we can go to Lazy Boy after - looking for sofa bed for den.

This afternoon = fun.....having my hair colored and cut. My stylist has been out because she came down with Covid. She did her quarantine time and is now free to work

Weather will be 85 but humidy went down a few degrees - today will be 87%. Still sticky and hot

Bev Anne - your swim sounds great, glad you are going back

Wow, no one was here yesterday, sure hope everyone hasn't left.

Well finally, after living in this apartment for two years, this morning I actually got to swim in our community lake. My daughter and her wife picked me up and we were the first ones there when the lake opened at 9:00 am. Even though it's a holiday weekend the sun was not out, it was solidly overcast and not overly hot so there weren't many people there this morning. The water was cool but pleasant and we had a good swim. Gordi has the rest of the week off so we will go again later in the week and play with the toys (paddleboards, kayaks, rowboats, etc.).

Nothing much unusual is happening this week. I still have a pile of library books to get through -- several of the ones I had on order all came at once but since the library is closed for the month in order to move into their new building I have plenty of time before they are due.

I feel really good after my swim this morning -- I am going to have to do that more often.

Morning ladies,

Still sore and some parts are very painful but overall it IS better. Inch by inch as the swelling goes down, I feel better emoticon

Today is the start of another hot and muggy week. Right now at 9:00am it is great but soon we will read somewhere between 82 and 88 with humidity of 91%. Boy the temperature is different depending which site I go to and look. LOL, should pick the lowest number. Have the ceiling fans going to circulate the air, also slider, doors and windows are open.

Today: laundry and cleaning up the house

Sandra - affordable housing is almost a non-existent thing out here in So. Cal.

Roz - do people protest about the restrictions?

Judy - hubby make it home ok?

Bev Anne - what is happening in your hood?

Waving to all, have a good start to the week emoticon

Judy: Thanks for sharing that. Yes things have changed and now we're in the midst of what I think is too much tearing down whole blocks and putting in high-rises with no affordable housing for people who badly need it.

That YWCA has been gone for a long time now. 1964! My son Scott was born in 1963 so I would have been walking around that neighbourhood too.

I lived in a building which was one among many others whose original purpose was also for service people and families, also in Dartmouth. I know the Lakefront buildings in South Dartmouth.

I'm glad Himself was being sensible and not cycling through heavy rain. No rush, right?

Have a great day, all!

Good day Everyone,
Hope all's well as can be expected.

Having a quiet Sunday, overslept this morning so was late for church service on Zoom but what I was able to take in was very uplifting.

We're still grappling with the virus(as is everyone else worldwide) and as a result we are still on partial lockdown and curfew so we have no choice but to adapt to 'the new normal '

I was able to have my daughter and my two younger grand children spend part of Monday with me. It really gladdened my heart indeed!

Today we celebrate Emancipation Day so tomorrow will be a public holiday.

Have a great time of day everyone

Stay blessed, be safe,

Much Love.

Sandra - I spent a lot of time at Point Pleasant when I lived in Halifax. When I first got there, I lived at the YWCA on Barrington Street. We spent a lot of time walking and Point Pleasant was often our destination. After I met my husband, we used to go to A & W a lot too. Back then the teen burgers were so good. Halifax has changed a lot since those days (1964).

After we got married we lived at Lakefront Apartments in Dartmouth. Back then navy personnel lived there. I understand the apartments opened up to civilians after there were changes in the housing allowance. One time when Himself and I were on a 'memory trip', we got lost looking for our apartment. We did eventually find it and the area was very different. I wish we could have seen inside.

My daughter texted that Himself is on his way home. Later, he texted from a service center that he got caught in a rain storm and he was stopped for awhile. He does have rain gear if he needs it. It rained here before I got up but right now the sun is shining brightly so he should be okay if he sits tight for a bit. Yes, it was nice to have some time to myself.

Carol: I trust that you will get care when needed...you are used to having so many balls in the air and always get through. I just worry about falls both for myself and everybody else. They are just too common an occurrence.

I'll be out on "my street" by two o'clock. A friend is picking me up and we might drive to Point Pleasant Park in our South End for a walk. It faces Halifax Harbour in part and curves around to face the North West Arm where lovely homes are built on the water's edges. There are boat clubs and another park across the water with a high tower. Where these meet, we see the entrance of the harbour and the open Atlantic Ocean. And, of course, various boats "out and about". A standing joke is that Haligonians/Nova Scotians are accused of pronouncing "out and about" as Oot and aboot. We all have accents!

Then perhaps Buddy Burgers from A&W.

Enjoy your Sunday, all (Including Gloria!)

Morning ladies,

Hopefully this will be the last day that Gloria can't get on to Spark. The computer guy will look at her computer after the weekend.

Very sore and parts are painful. If it is this bad tomorrow, I will go to urgent care, the reason I am waiting, need to have the tissues etc. swelling reduced. Contacting a company on Monday who resurfaces to non-stick - need the seat, floor and grab bars

Today: taking it easy and other than walking Scarlett nothing is planned.....so far. emoticon

Boy our day will be very warm, it is supposed to be 87 coastal and that doesn't happen very often and the humidity is still high at 89 emoticon

Sandra - what is happening on "your street"? If I am still hurting badly tomorrow, I will go to Urgent Care - they can't do anything, it isn't like they can put my tush in a sling.

Bev Anne - what a trip your relatives are taking. Enjoyed seeing the pictures

Judy - what a trip DH is taking, and you have time alone

Waving to all, have a peaceful Sunday emoticon

Wow! Bev Anne, that's a wonderful experience for all of you. And what a great trip your cousin and husband are having. What a creative use of free time. Thanks for including those lovely pictures as well.

We just had a visit with a cousin (and her husband) that we haven't seen for over 40 years. They are on a road trip across Canada and visiting with friends and relatives all along the way. When they get to the west coast (Seattle) they are going on a cruise to Alaska and back and from there they will decide what route they will take back to their home in Ottawa. They said that they can't get lost because there is nowhere they are "supposed to be".

My cousin and her husband.

Ted hopped on his motorcycle this morning and headed to our daughter's. He has been wanting to see how he would do on a longer ride and has been thinking about this since the beginning of summer. Usually he would be planning to ride his bike to Port Dover on Friday the 13th but this year the town is discouraging the usual motorcycle Friday 13th gathering. Port Dover is about an hour beyond where our daughter lives. I expect he will go just to see the town. He plans to come home tomorrow.

Carol, I sent the remainder of the pie to Kathryn's. I sure didn't need a half a pie tempting me. If you are ever in town, I will make sure to make a peach pie. emoticon

We have about 8 tomato plants. They are so 'together' that I can't count them. If I plant some again next year, I will try to spread them out better.

Wow! That's a great list, Carol.

Will you be getting an X-ray to see what damage your fall may have caused?

Good luck!

REASON FOR LOSING WEIGHT:

I want to be able to fit in an airline seat to travel and see my family.
I want to be strong and healthy.
It will be better to spend more time being active and less time eating mindlessly.
Excess weight puts additional stress on my joints, leading to more aches and pains.
It shouldn't be so difficult to bend down and tie my own shoes.
My bloodwork will likely return to the normal ranges.
I want to be independent as I age and not have to rely on others to take care of me.
I want to be comfortable in my own skin.
I want to fit into a booth at a restaurant.
Losing the weight will reduce my risk of cancer, heart disease and other health issues.
Losing weight will improve my balance.
My shoes will fit better.
It's easier to fly on a plane when I don't feel like I'm squished into the person next to me.
I want to feel like I'm in control of my food instead of food controlling me.
I don't want to feel like everyone is looking at me when I go out in public.
Being a normal weight means protecting my joints, spine and hips.
I want my body to show all of the hard work I've put into it.
I should be able to touch my toes.

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

Morning ladies,

Gloria sent me a message that she CANNOT get on site. People have been offering her suggestions and nothing is working. Since Canada is having a holiday, she can't get her computer guy over. She is very upset and misses everyone.

Well I sure am in pain, only feel ok when I am standing. My down pillow that I am sitting on works a little but boy, my right check is swollen and my shoulder + hands where I tried to brace myself when I hit the floor.

The construction people responded and gave me a name of a company who puts permanent non-stick surfaces in places. Hopefully, even though it is Saturday, they are in the office. Can't afford to have a new shower built

Today: going to WW this morning, probably will stand for the meeting, sure can't sit on a hard chair emoticon

Lynda - I also noticed few people on Sparks, that is sad since we still have over 2 wks.

Judy - love peach pie, hope you saved me a slice. How many tomato plants do you have?

Bev Anne - how was Calgary? That is sad that you can't see the mts. when that happens all I can think of is "wonder what it is doing to my lungs"

Waving to all, have a cool and comfortable Saturday emoticon

Carol: I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry about your fall. For a while I was preaching about fall prevention and then I fell in the shower banging my head HARD against the side of the tub--there's no "give" on those tubs!!! And it was my fault. After that, the mat goes in the tub first and me second.

Carol, I hope you are feeling okay by now. My aunt (who had MS) had an incident - I don't remember the details - when they had to call the firement to help her. Thankfully Bill was able to help you up.

We had a more comfortable day weatherwise. Ted brought more peaches so I made him another pie. Our tomatoes are starting to ripen.

I hope Gloria can get on. I know she is wanting to be here til the end.

Good Morning,

Carole, I hope the pain is subsiding and that you didn't do any damage to your hip. Slippery surfaces can be treacherous.

It seems this site is winding down. I hope Gloria can find her way back for the last couple of weeks.

We are headed in to Calgary in a couple of hours.

The air is still hazy and we haven't seen the mountains for ages. I hope they are still there.

Morning ladies,

Well I did it again and really not my fault emoticon I fell in the shower!!!!! We had a large shower which has a seat across the back, grab bars (2 of them), it is a handicap shower. They have them here in Leisure World. Anyway....I sat on the back bench for the 1st time and slipped right off and boy hit the floor full force. The bench is as slick as snot, which I can't tell you how strange that is to me. Grab bars are older model which means slick, slippery.

I hit the floor full speed and then on my way down, slammed my shoulder. I am soooo grateful that I didn't hit the back of my head, we sure don't need another brain bleed in the family. I couldn't get up, yelled for Bill because all I thought was: lordy don't want the cute firemen seeing a 78 year old naked. Bill rushed in and grabbed both hands and I was up.

However, the pain is still quite high, either I cracked my hip bone or badly bruised it, wrenched the sore arm which is so colorful with bruises and wrenched my back.

I am a mess but up and moving slowly, need to sit on a down pillow because sitting is painful. So I am better when walking Scarlett.

Text the construction company to have them come out next week and hopefully they can lay a layer of cement on the seat and floor, change the grab bars etc.

I never fall, LOL, no I had to wait till I was old and have arthritis emoticon

Well TGIF, emoticon

Greetings all,

Carol, yes, I read Cottage by the Sea 2 or 3 years ago. I have read all of Debbie Macombers recent books (or I am on the waitlist at the library). I am on her Email list and order her books from the library even before they are published. It was a good read -- all of her books are. I have several favourite authors and am on their Email lists so I get their latest books.

This afternoon we are going to High River for haircuts and tomorrow we are going in to Calgary to finalize some of our "end of life" stuff. On Saturday we are meeting up with a cousin and her husband that I haven't seen since she was a teenager. I met with her brother a couple of years ago when he was visiting his daughter in this area. Since my Mom died (about 35 years ago it has been hard to keep up with that branch of the family but we have reconnected recently and it is nice to keep in touch.

Sometime this weekend Gordi and Heather want to go for a swim in our community lake -- I have to go with them because they don't live in this community. I finally have an excuse to try it out. I will let you know how it goes.

emoticon Good morning ladies. I slept in till 10:30 but was my own fault. I was just going to turn off the TV at 11 when a movie came on that looked good so I kept it on and watched. Seldom get good ones these days and it was funny.

I have to say Hi to family yet so I'm not staying on SP. Just wanted to say morning to you faithful ones in here. I did look at the posts in the group that Bev Anne made on face book and Dorothy's family is going through a rough time right now. I'm keeping her SIL in my prayers, that happened to him so quickly!

Be back later if I can! emoticon Enjoy a thankful Thursday.

Morning ladies,

Yea, I have a free day, don't need to get in my car and hit the freeway. Now....what should I do??? Probably get through the list of phone calls I need to make, walk Scarlett longer and clean off my dinning room table. I have so many things on it, you can't see the wood top any longer.

Weather - booo.....another day with high humidity- 88 and temperature is 84 degrees.

Lynda - sorry it is smoky up there, sure not good for the lungs

Bev Anne - I just got the book - "Cottage by the Sea", have you read it?

I thought I had posted in here today but it looks like I didn't. Had a fairly quiet day today. A group of four ladies were supposed to go out for lunch today but one had an emergency root canal so we postponed until next month. We were going to go to the golf club with the great view of the mountains but it's too hazy to see them anyway -- hopefully, it will be clearer next month so I can take some pictures.

I started a new book today so I am going to go out on the balcony to read for a bit and cool off in the night air. Have a good night.

Morning ladies,

Got everything done yesterday, gee I was tired last night. Today I am going to the Library's orientation here in Leisure World. As time passes little by little I am getting involved with the clubs. This afternoon, just stuff around here and going to the bank, get gas etc.

Our temperature is on the rise again. We have a flex alert from 4-10 tonight. Our high is 80 with the humidity of 91%. Inland it is in the 100's and that is why we have the alert.

Gloria - wow, what a fun schedule you are setting up. Love it and so will you

Judy - like the gifts you are making for Hospice. That sure is a great charity to get involved with for sure.

Bev Anne - you sure did have a busy day. Really hope the medication works and the stone dissolves.

Sandra - that is weird - a woman working in a barber shop. Usually men work on men there. If it is a salon, then why only men????

Waving to all, it is hump day emoticon

emoticon Good morning ladies. When I got up at 6 this morning it was white outside, we had such a heavy fog. It hasn't lifted yet at 9 but the sun is trying to peek through it. I had such a busy day out yesterday, we went to 4 different places to get everything done and it felt like we walked 100 miles in those stores!! We also sat in Walmart to have lunch, first time we've been able to eat inside places in months and that was really nice. I got all that was on my list when shopping so I should be fine till the next time we go out. We made plans to go to Port Dover next week, right on my birthday. Mame takes me out for a birthday meal every year and suggested that we go to the lake. First time I've been there in 3 years, I always went with my sister and BIL but since he passed away, I haven't wanted to go back. Perhaps this will be good for me. My son's wife wants to take me out for a BD supper so we'll set a date for another night. And another niece is picking me up on the 9th, to go to my sister's home so we three can have a BD lunch together! So many nice celebrations and get togethers coming up. I am enjoying all this.

Judy, that's wonderful what you do for the hospice, I'm sure the residents are happy receiving these homemade gifts. If your 93 year old uncle lives alone, I hope he's doing well. Things get harder as we get up really high in age.

Bev Anne, imagine getting to see your doctor in person when you just dropped in to ask something! That's almost unheard of these days. Glad all is going well with you.

Sandra, one good thing about our hairdressers cutting our hair too short -- it grows back! Disappointing when we don't get the cut we want though. Mine is coming this morning to give me another cut, I keep telling her 'shorter, shorter', lol. Taking the bus up the hill is a good idea!

Carol, that was a bad fall that you had and you took it right in stride, afraid I couldn't do that. I do hope you aren't hurting or too achy today, lucky it wasn't worse! Sad about Sky leaving but she'll be back again, that's something to look forward to.

Hello to everyone, wishing each of you a happy hump day!

This morning I got an e-mail letting me know that our sewing for Hospice will resume on September 8. Good news. We make Comfort Bears and small quilts for the residents of our local hospice.

Two bears ready to be left in rooms. We had a stockpile of completed bears and quilts before the pandemic. We had started sewing before the hospice was built. I expect everything was used while we were off.

This afternoon I had an unexpected phone call from my 93 year old uncle (my mother's baby brother). He lives in an apartment in Ottawa. His wife died just before the pandemic. It was really good to hear from him.

Greetings Ladies,

I was too tired to come in here yesterday after we got back from Calgary. Gordon had an appointment with a specialist whose office is just down the hall from my urologist who took out the kidney stones last summer. I have had one follow-up phone appointment with him but he is so busy that I haven't heard from him since. He looks at your labs when they come in and puts you on the list for phone appointments but if you aren't urgent you keep getting shuffled to the bottom of the list. Anyway, I dropped in to ask a question about when I might hear from the nutritionist that my urologist is setting me up with and he decided to see me right then, in person, what a shock to actually see a specialist without an appointment. Anyway, he was pleased to see my lab results because my kidneys are functioning well but the last imaging test (a couple of months ago) show that I do have another stone forming that could cause problems in the future. Anyway he gave me a prescription that should help dissolve the stone and I have another appointment with him in January (not a good month to have to go in to Calgary). Anyway that was an added bonus.

Then we to our vitamin store and then for lunch and finally to pick up some groceries at Superstore. By the time we got home I was too exhausted to think so I just vegged in front of the TV for the rest of the day.

Carol: You sure are a super trouper!! ABBA's song could be your theme song. Many of us would cancel things for a while after those injuries.

Today I'm going to the nearby Hair Design School for a cut. Yes, it's down the hill. The last time I was there I had a student who was finishing the following week so I actually closed my eyes and relaxed for a while. Mistake! It was too short. When I asked her if she had a job lined up, she named a place in our Halifax Shopping Centre. It wasn't familiar to me and as it turned out, it's for MEN. Hence my short haircut! Yikes!

From the weather channel: Remarks: Smoke from forest fires in western Canada is expected to spread over Nova Scotia this afternoon. While most of the smoke will remain aloft, some may descend to near ground level causing reduced air quality. Associated haze will likely give the sun a reddish appearance.

I'll be getting the bus back up the hill!

Morning ladies,

We had a great time w/Sky and Larry last night. Laughed, told stories and it was a bittersweet time because she is leaving Thursday on the red eye.

Busy day today: have an important for the lab this morning and then this afternoon I am driving down the freeway for Bill's important Dr.'s appointment regarding the brain bleed.

Weather continue to be about the same, we will have a high of 78 but that humidity is still high with 89%

Oh, I injured myself yesterday. Was in the front plant bed and wrestling pulling out the root of a parsley plant. I tugged, pulled, twisted it and boy it was in there. Then, it came loose with a huge jerk, I lost my balance and then was caressing the cement ridge and grass. Took a big chunk out of my shin bone and my shoulder is extremely bruised plus my knees are a mess. The highlight was: I was able to get myself up - yea for me. You can't believe how sore I was and still am. emoticon

Gloria - I know you will really enjoy your time out today

Sandra - what are you doing today?

Wow, we were sooooo quiet yesterday.

Waving to all, happy Tuesday emoticon

emoticon Good morning on another hot day. Starting out at 60, which is ideal for me, but going up in the 80's again. I am counting the days till Autumn, my favourite season, arrives. I know most love summer but I dislike the heat. I'm going out for the day with my niece -- banking, groceries, Walmart and hopefully lunch in a restaurant, even Tim Hortons would be nice. We haven't been able to sit in one in so long!

Sandra, I always enjoy reading your posts, you have such a fun way of putting things.

Carol, it's nice that you were able to see Sky again before she leaves.

Enjoy a wonderful, healthy and safe Tuesday, ladies.

Good morning ladies,

Just got back in from walking Scarlett and it is yucky outside. There was rain earlier when I 1st got up and now it is just hanging in the air. Very overcast and we will have a high of 78 which is slightly warmer and humidity is 93%.

Today, Sky is scheduled to come over for the last time till Christmas, she leaves Thursday for Ohio.

Other than that event, if I have time I will go to Costco to pick up fresh fruits. If not, then I will run over to the supermarket to pick them up.

Watched the Olympics all afternoon and evening. Just love watching them perform and really go for it.

Gloria - thx for the pep talk

Bev Anne - at least the air doesn't smell bad

Waving to all, have a solid Monday emoticon

We just got back from Calgary -- church and lunch at Wendy's and now I am going to spend the afternoon reading.

The temperatures are pleasant here but the air is smokey and you can't see the mountains or even the city skyline when you are heading to Calgary. It doesn't smell bad though and I have my balcony door wide open most of the time.

Carol, I didn't realize that you go to bed early and rise early, that's a great habit to have. Tomorrow 'may' be laundry day for me, not sure yet. My taste buds are real wonky now, I can't taste bread, butter, most sandwich fillings but oddly, I can get some taste from some things. For example, I can taste cinnamon so I look for things that have that spice in them. It's not 100% gone, I'd say perhaps 95%. A person learns to adjust to these things. It does take joy out of eating at times though.

Morning ladies,

Actually went to bed later (for me) it was 11:00 and woke up at 6:00 (again later for me). Walked Scarlett, watched ABC world news show, fixed our traditional Sunday breakfast egg omelet w/mushrooms and salsa, bacon (for Bill)

Today: laundry, laundry and more laundry. Stripped the bed and have piles in the main bathroom where the combo washer/dryer are located.

Glued to the Olympics, oh y skateboard was on last night and the guys kept falling and falling.

Weather today: high of 75 which is nice but humidity is 85% still to high

Sandra - I burst out laughing at renting a car so you can use your new cooler

Bev Anne - enjoy your day

Gloria - sorry to read you lost your taste buds - so nothing taste different?

Judy - I have always liked traveling by train. So much easier than driving and I love to drive.

Waving to all, have a fun Sunday emoticon

Sandra, I have lost my taste pretty well but I still have what I call "eye taste". I remember what all food tastes like so I do like to have a variety of veggies, fruits, meats, etc. I still enjoy my food and often say "oh, that tasted good!"
I think renting a car, picking up a friend or two, filling that cooler with food & drinks - then driving to a park to enjoy together, would be an ideal thing to do, since you have a big cooler.

Carol: That's funny that you felt 150 years old. I get it. Some of those plans are geared to people who need nourishment but have lost their taste buds. Poor souls. My cousin I hang out with (yes, down the street from me) is like that. Also my sister. And my DIL says everything tastes metallic but, then again, she is quite creative with what she comes up with.

The one I joined asked that we leave a cooler outside our homes or in our lobbies. I bought a fairly large one plus one of those blue ice thingies. Now what do I do with it? Maybe I'll be renting a car for a couple of days every now and then. Is that an extreme solution to make use of a cooler? Oh, my.

emoticon Good morning ladies. I slept in because it's Sunday, a day to relax and reflect. Just sparking a bit before I have breakfast.

Bev Anne, you and Gordon lead a nice senior's life. Funny how your crops do well with less water and ours here need plenty. They are doing well though and so are the lawns.

Sandra, I hope you get pretty good news at the arthritis doctor appt, anything that goes on with our feet and legs really affects our walking. I tried meals coming to my door but found I didn't like that - for one thing, I had to be here when they were delivered and they came anytime between 11 am and 2 pm, which prevented me from going out those days and another thing was that they were pretty much the same as though I was 150 years old and could not eat a variety of things! I much prefer to make my own plus buy some frozen at Zehrs or buy ready made and freeze.

Wishing each of you a very nice, relaxing Sunday.

Good morning, folks!

It's 17 degrees so far in Halifax. That's great with me. Whoops! It's now 20 and going up to 24. As long as it's not humid I'm okay.

My meal delivery experiment is over now except for the meals now sitting in the freezer part of my fridge. I guess it's back to cooking a bit now and then and getting my individual frozen meals at Sobeys and Shoppers, like the butter chicken, that I think is good, and adding frozen peas for a vegetable.

My appointment with the Arthritis doctor (down the street, Carol) is this coming week. I'll get the verdict on my Hallux Rigidus big toe and hopefully some advice on physiotherapy for the rest of me.

No plans for today so far but will get out. Maybe I'll rejoin Canada Games which is ACROSS the street!! I've only used it the last couple of years for walking with my poles on the track but that's better than either staying home or walking outside in the heat and humidity which turns me into a wet noodle.

Have a good weekend, folks!!

Another quiet day today. Tomorrow we will be going into Calgary for church and Monday we will be going downtown Calgary for a medical appointment for Gordon in the morning.

Our weather has been quite pleasant but very dry -- from what I hear the crops have not done well this year due to drought conditions.

I'm going to go and read for a bit before I go to bed. Have a good weekend!

Carol, happy birthday to Bill. July is a good birthday month, isn't it. My daughter and her son both had theirs this month too.

Judy, we were supposed to get heat today but then it rained hard, stayed cloudy the rest of the day and we had showers off & on. No a/c, I've been getting a lovely breeze coming in my window. Tomorrow, so they say, will be hot. Oh you, now I want some peach pie! emoticon

Carol, today (July 24) is also my nephew's 35th birthday. I told him that I am hoping we will see him before the end of the year. Right now, we are considering a trip to Nova Scotia in September. I am hoping things are more settled by then and the train will be running again. I don't really want to go by car but don't be surprised if my husband convinces me that is the way to go.

I am glad I am not allergic to the stings but they are really making me miserable. Gloria, you asked about the stingers. I didn't see them so I assume they are still in me. I slept better last night but I took something to help.

I made a peach pie for Ted. It turned out so good. I'm glad I made it yesterday before the heat came back. I hate turning the oven on when it is already hot.

We had a downpour this morning right after we got up. The rain stopped but the humidity didn't.

Morning ladies,

We watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I have watched these games since I was a teenager and really like them and am in awe of the hard work those players accomplished.

Today is Bill's "real" birthday, he is 80 years old. The grands have been facetiming him and DD's and his son called. We are going to Fortune Cookie (Chinese food) for lunch and we have always liked the restaurant.

Temperature today wil be a teeny bit cooler with the high of 75 and humidity is down a titch but I will take it.

Gloria - Scarlett isn't doing well in this weather. On our walks she looks for the shade and then will just stand there.

Lynda - hope you have some fun that you are able to do inside.

Bev Anne - enjoy the pause before the busy week starts.

emoticon Good morning ladies. It's 61 at the moment and I'm loving it! I had a surprise visit from my son's wife yesterday afternoon. She had to come back from the lake for a few days to help her elderly aunt so she made and brought me a meal and we had a nice long visit. It was so good to see her.

Bev Anne, I enjoy summer but the temps are getting more unbearably hot every summer and I don't enjoy that. We could use rain here but I don't think we're too badly off - the grass is all emerald green, beautiful. Good to have your blood work done and next week the doctor & hair appts.

Carol, congrats on that log in streak! How is Scarlett holding up in the humidity? That sounds terribly high.

Judy, are there stingers that you have to get out when bit by yellow jackets? The itching would drive a person up a wall! It's good Ted's bike got a flat while sitting in the garage, he wouldn't want that happening when riding on a busy road. YES, I'm looking forward to eating in a restaurant again, it's been a while. My sister always got liver & onions and while I love that, I've always been leery on a restaurant getting it cooked 'just right', picky eater, eh, lol.

Sandra, I so agree with you - I like routine, not constant changes. My niece and I sometimes get a breakfast sandwich when we go for lunch at a Tim Hortons, I like their biscuit they use for their sandwiches but isn't it good to just have it made for you. I look forward to one of them soon. Pushing my walker up a ramp to get into some stores feels like I'm climbing a mountain, so yes, I do feel as you do when walking a hill.

Enjoy Saturday and your weekend, dear friends. Any plans for yours?

Good Afternoon,

We went to Calgary yesterday -- just for fun. And today we had lab appointments for bloodwork. Next week will be a bit busier with doctor's appointments and haircuts in the mix.

The weather is nice for the people but not for the farmers -- not much rain in the forecast.

I hope you are all enjoying summer.

Morning ladies,

All is well in my household. Weather continues to be humid, which as I have mentioned previously is very strange. The high today will be 75 and the humidity is 93%

Today: think we will take a run to Sams warehouse, Bill needs some premier protein and I need Hazelnut creamer. Of course walking Scarlett is major 4 times/day.

Sparks notified me that my login streak is now 2500 days emoticon

Judy - wow, you are lucky about the yellow jackets and you are lucky you aren't allergic to the sting. Boy, smart to have bike insurance.

Sandra - LOL, your street again. How wonderful to have a supermarket across from your home. Yup, the humidity I mentioned above ruins summer for me.

Gloria - sounds like you had a good day yesterday for sure.

Roz - hope you night was uneventful and today is a good day for you.

Waving to all, have a great Friday emoticon

How can it be Friday already? The way the days are flying by it could be Christmas next week. emoticon

What a miserable night I had. Yesterday morning when I was working in my garden, I turned a log over and there was a nest of yellow jackets. I got stung 3 times. I am grateful it wasn't more because there was quite a swarm of them. One got my right index finger, one got my left thumb and one got my left calf. I put a baking soda paste on the bites but during the night the itching kept me awake. I got up early so that my tossing and turning wouldn't keep my husband awake.

Ted had his own problems. In the afternoon, he was going to go for a motorcycle ride to see a friend. When he was backing the bike out of the garage, something didn't feel right. It turned out that the rear tire was flat. He called CAA to get the bike taken to his mechanic. We added bike coverage a few years ago after we got stuck on the side of the road. That event was enough to make us add coverage for the bike.

On the good side of things, we ate inside a restaurant for supper. I had liver and onions that was really good. He enjoyed his mini lasagna and ate the whole thing. (I say that because his appetite has been on the low side lately.)

Gloria: Yes, this constant upgrading has gotten to me. I think it started with my first cell phone (I'm on my second one now and only because I kept running out of space for pictures).

Now this new laptop and having to sign in with passwords all over again for everything and popups asking me to register for this and that and I don't know which one is needed and which ones are extras/sales pitches.

I know that some people don't want change from their 30's onward and I was never like that. I am endlessly curious and interested in many things. However, at 79 I just want to settle on these daily things, technology things, and get off the learning curve..

Then, I have to tackle Facebook and start building my personal info/pictures all over again.

So today was a gift because I got up early and stayed up and the air was CLEAR!!! No humidity which had me and many others down. I even walked down to MacDonald's and had a nice coffee and Egg McMuffin (I ran out of eggs) then across the street to my supermarket.

When I walked down the hill during the humid days, I felt like I was 150 years old and felt ill!!

Does anybody else react to those days like that? That's why I always dread Summer but try not to rain on others' parades.

Have a good Friday all and lots of fresh air!!

Beck: Friday Weekend Warm-up:

Now that the country is opening back up, many people are having trouble staying on track in social situations.

Our biggest piece of advice: MAKE A PLAN!

For any (and all!) events you have this weekend, think them through, write down exactly what you plan to do, and read the plan right before you go.

Even better?

Bring it with you so you can read it and refocus if things start to go awry.

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life.

emoticon Good morning ladies. My apt is nice and clean and my cleaning lady sat for a long gab session yesterday, which I love! She's been a good friend all these years and might I say, she's like another daughter to me. Then I talked to my sister for 1 1/2 hrs in the afternoon as she was feeling down, so all the talking/listening made me super tired and I slept in, way late today!

Sandra, I hope you are feeling better today. Is the new laptop getting you down?

Carol, I'm glad the inspection went so well and hope you get those bookcases done soon.

Roz, it's always nice to see you, I hope all is going well with you.

Hi to everyone. I slept in and am just sparking a bit now. Enjoy your Friday, work at keeping it healthy - that never gets old to hear.

Morning ladies,

Just got back from walking Scarlett. Love the 1st walk, it is cooler and no humidity. Nothing planned for today, just continue to tackle the bookcases.

Speaking of weather - our high will be 79 with humidity at 91% emoticon

My inspection went well - only 1 smoke alarm out of 3 didn't work and I had to register Scarlett. So off I went to the Transfer office and then I had to run to the vets. Did have all her shots but needed proof she was spaded. Finally back to their office and all is well, have a Pet Alert that you put on a front window. If we have a fire or earth quake, the firemen and crew know that there is a pet to find.

Sandra - sure hope you feel better quickly. Laying on the couch and drinking coffee sounds like great medical advice. emoticon

Gloria - rushing but your home will be all clean and tidy

Lynda - hi back to you

Judy - ahhhh, siblings

Waving to all, have a great Thursday emoticon

Beck Thursday Think Tip:

It's easy to conflate boredom with hunger.

The next time you want to eat, take a moment to ask yourself if you have an empty rumbling in your stomach.

If not, chances are you're not hungry.

Instead of going to the kitchen, find a different fun activity to do

Good morning.
Feeling under the weather...not up to anything so will go to the couch and have my coffee and forget this new laptop for a while.
Have a good day, folks.

emoticon Good morning ladies. I'm rushing because my cleaning lady is coming earlier than usual this morning. Seems there's so much to do to prepare for her but I'm getting there. I'll try to come back in here this afternoon.

Enjoy a healthy Thursday!
