Thanks @PROVERBS31JULIA for taking the time to share a supportive "discovery" of science indicating that some king of fasting (taking a break from food/digestion) DOES have health benefits!
This is as good a place to post for this team!

Intermittent fasting: Live 'fast,' live longer?

Article on todayís edition of Science Daily (one of my husbandís favorite websites.).

I donít know if this is the best thread, and I am going to paste it in on other teams with similar topics.

But sounds more encouraging!

I love Mark's Daily Apple and like that you've incorporated if into the discussion that doesn't leave anyone feel left out. emoticon

I am still learning what works best for me, but am not technically keto as I love beans. They don't negatively affect my blood glucose in a portion or one exchange and have tons of fiber.

I have eaten 50 grams of carbs per day and I do get into ketosis that way. Right now, if I eat 70 grams of carbs per day, along with daily IF, my numbers are good. I would prefer to eat 50 grams of carbs per day.

I do belong to a keto team to find out all the great ways to fix low carb foods. Perhaps one day I will go keto, but never strict keto. Strict keto (20 carbs per day) makes me hyper and bitchy which is not my normal personality.

Due to my own digestive needs, I found I am unable to eat most gluten free breads. I get terrible heartburn, which is likely due to cross contamination. I was able to eat gluten free pizza last night and was ok. Normally, I try to eat fresh, whole foods...more fresh veggies and an occasional piece of fruit like a pear.

I do the above for my gluten intolerance and my diabetes.

Love blackberries and blueberries! When I was a kid growing up in Connecticut, we would pick the ones we grew on our farm and they were great! I only eat a few now being on Keto but they are so good!

That's a very good article - thanks for sharing!!

One of the cancer survivor websites does not specifically "endorse" Keto although they do seem to be in favor of fasting and intermittent fasting. They do comment about the body going into ketosis during a fasting period of time....so I'm not entirely clear on why they don't specifically endorse keto for fighting cancer (and yet, there are other cancer survivor networks that do seem to endorse keto...). But one of the points they make about eating fruit - agreeing with what Mark says in the article below about eating the whole fruit and not fruit juices - is that "no one ever got cancer from eating TOO MUCH fruit..."

At the same time, though, I think this particular survivor never had to deal with diabetes or metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes, so I think that's something to consider too. It definitely is something a person has to see how they personally respond to whatever fruits they want to eat. And I find I do better with the carbs in fruit far more so than the carbs in white processed sugar.

But...I'm still learning about myself so everyone is different and we just have to take responsibility for our own bodies and our own nutrient needs and how to incorporate fruits into our own diets....not to mention own our own fruit preferences and be realistic about what is available locally to get. My mom - she doesn't like blackberries and blueberries (and I never remember it being an issue when I was growing up, likely because we never could afford to buy fruit back in the day), and so that sometimes frustrated me, and other times, I'm like, " oh, yippee, that's more berries for me!"

Some people follow this strictly & find it really improves their health. Others choose not to be as restrictive about what they add into their daily eating.

I'm not going to "land" on what you should do, because that is not what I want us to be about as a team. We each have our own journeys to health... And hopefully we can keep an open forum of discussion & sharing so that we can glean from each other.

Found this thoughtful article about fruit as it ties to KETO. Thought I would share it for the purpose of information.

** I will plan to post more links in the weeks ahead to allow both for discussion & learning. But anyone can add to this & it would be helpful to share how that does or does not work for you.
